HP movie actress Fiona Shaw (Petunia Dursley) did not win the Tony Award this evening; she was nominated for playing the title role in Medea, but Vanessa Redgrave was awarded for her turn in Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night. Having seen both performances, I think it’s worthwhile to note that both were Tony-worthy; Shaw’s Medea was so memorable it lives with me still. But Redgrave’s performance is an unearthly experience; it would win her a Tony every year for the rest of her life, if it could. So bravo to both ladies. (Ms. Shaw, let’s hope Petunia doesn’t go Medea on Dudley. That would be bad.)
