J.K. Rowling at Number 42
Feb 13, 2004
J.K. Rowling is the 42nd most borrowed author in the UK, according to this article in the Mirror, which references the Public Lending Right list. Children’s book author Jacqueline Wilson, who writes ‘mainly tales for girls of 10 and older’, is number one, with more than two million loans last year.
With no slight intended toward Ms. Wilson or any of the other wonderful authors who are borrowed from the world’s libraries, TLC would assume that not many people borrow Harry Potter because not many people need to – the vast majority seem to own the series already (sometimes in more than one language).
