Frank, coming from someone who obviously is offended by what I said because hes a bigot himself I dont think any explaination I give will make any of you come to reason. The bottom line to all this nonsence is that there should be no reason to bash JK, hurt the feelings of people on this site that are not like yourself, feel that you have to defend yourself for no reason, ect. This whole series was based on these types of bigotry and if you say you love the books then you should be against them! Not pretend like you are and then act a different way!!!!

To me its being fake and if your this way the your the same as the Malfoys in my book!

“Her method was genius…”

Her method was deceptive and self-serving.

My goodness—I’m reading these and finding intolerance on both sides of the question.

There is no need to insult homosexuals, and no need to smack down anyone who has a different opinion of what is appropriate in children’s literature.

I personally do not see the neccesity of this revelation as it does not add to the story -the Grindelwald issue works well whether they were in love or merely best friends-and it does make it difficult to promote the book as children’s literature. (I would also add the goats and the story of Arianna to this—mature themes for an older audience).

Also, the way it has been reported made it sound like Jo was dissing religious people—not at all apparent in the transcript. The Rita Skeeters in the press are adding fuel to the fire and hurting people in the process.

I believe it is also reasonable for some to consider and understand that there will be some concerns about this. Sex is a very personal and holy thing to many and many parents choose to discuss it with their children first—not expecting to find it in books that in no way implied that these themes would be explored.

Lastly, it is not very tolerant or open-minded to say hurtful things about those who have some valid questions about the need and appropriateness of this aspect of Dumbledore’s personality.

Rosa P, listen to yourself, you are the bigot. Open your mind. Left wing nuts are just as bad as right wing nuts.

1) People love the Harry Potter books 2) It was announced that Dumbledore was gay 3) Select few now hate the books… they might even burn them, as some suggested.

Why? Is this prejudice, or because it shows the reality of our world in which we live in?

I wonder if being gay ACTUALLY harms people… Not to mention Oscar Wilde, Alan Turing, Tchaikovsky, and Leonardo da Vindi, who made GREAT contributions to our society.

It’s terrible that she said that such a wonderful character as Dumbledore is homosexual. Even if she said it, I won’t consider it canon; Dumbledore is too good a character to fall to such ridiculous levels. It adds nothing to the plot, and is just another bit of homosexual propaganda aimed at children. The explanation that he and Grindlewald were very good friends was sufficient; there is no need for anything other than friendship-love.

Frank, are you only reading what you want to read??? How am I a bigot?? I dont have a problem with what JK said! I think its great that we have such diversity in this world we’ve all fallen in love with! What I am against is the fact of people on this board bashing JK (not having an oppinion just bashing), name calling, people hurting others because of their differences, and people making assumptions that make no sense!(example: Thats the reason why Dumbledore had private sessions with Harry. Thats like saying all black people are criminals, all white people are snobs, all married men will cheat, if you get married you’ll never have sex again, all Arabs hate Americans even if they live here! Its rediculous!!)

Phil, I’m not trying to pick a fight with you, but please help me understand why the opinion of Potter fans versus the “select few” is seen as enlightened not bigoted.

Dumbledore is gay. It’s all fits somehow. Poor dumbledore, I bet he never came out of the closet. That’s probably why he never found anyone. I don’t think homosexuality would have been accepted when he was young. I don’t think he and Grindewald ever had a relationship though. I think Dumbledore was secretly in love and Grindewald just thought that he had found a compagnion to make plans with. I don’t think Grindewald was gay at all.

Professor L, I agree with you about a lot, but don’t see that Jo mentioned anything about sex. Anywhere. About any of the characters. And you suggesting that one character clarified as gay is less appropriate than another clarified as straight (like Harry, Ginny, Hermione, Ron, etc., etc., etc.), I don’t believe, is very tolerant to people who fall in love with others that are the same gender.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness, I hope you’ll consider my thoughts.

Why do say its aimed at children?? JK is straight! Is she trying to turn all children gay now?!

Because the root of the problem is deeper than just the Harry Potter books. It goes into the root of society: the bigotry stemming from homophobia. The ignorance of homosexuals, transexuals, bisexuals, etc is clear when you read these messages.

Very disappointed about this news, its completely ruined my enjoyment of her otherwise excellent books. They are primarily for children about Wizards & Witches, why jump on the PC bandwagon & include reference to the characters sexual preference? It is perverse & pointless.Children are having their innocence taken far too soon.Having children herself she should be thoroughly ashamed.
