While in London recently promoting their new film “Sweeney Todd,” IESB.net reports that actors Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter also mentioned their roles in the Harry Potter films. Actress Helena Bonham Carter states yet again that she will be back as Bellatrix Lestrange filming “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” in February of 2008. Alan Rickman was described as “reticent” to discuss his role as Professor Severus Snape, however the actor “laughed about the recent rumor of a JK Rowling inspired musical; “who is shoving that around?” He also joked about an adult film version of the series making the rounds as well. On a related note, IESB.net now has nine clips online from the upcoming film, which is based on the award winning musical by Stephen Sondheim. Via this link, you can see new footage of Helena Bonham Carter in a lovely piece set to the classic song “Not While I’m Around,” as well as a new clip of actor Timothy Spall (Peter Petigrew) and one featuring Alan Rickman at his chilling best as the evil Judge Turpin. Caution for Parents: The film, which has been rated “R” contains mature subject matter with violence, and is not suitable for young children.

Thanks to IESB!

Never got to see “Sweeney Todd” on B’way, but Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter make the film a MUST SEE!

Is it just me or does anyone else get the feeling that Rickman doesn’t care for HP too much? This isn’t the first time: he doesn’t talk about it at all. I’ve also heard from Phoenix123 (IMDB users know who I’m talking about) that he appears cold on set.

Timothy Spall (Peter Petigrew) is also in Enchanted as the evil Queens hench man. The funny part is after the movie my mother said to me who is that man I see him playing a rat.

Well I don’t really like Rickman. I’ve heard bad things about him on set of HP from Phoenix too. H esaid he’s snobbish and stuff…Well,he doesn’t talk about HP and I don’t know why…It’s strange. Imagine that his role in HBP is very big and signficant. At least, in the final two films he must be satisfied with the amount of screentime he will have.

About Helena, I completely adore her. She’s the best Bellatrix EVER. So, she’s actually filming in February huh? Cool. I really really reallyyyyy do think that her part will not only be in the beginning of the film but she will also be featured in the battle.I can’t wait

@Lilja & john: Rickman has given interviews in the past, and has said he really enjoys working on HP. I don’t see him being snobbish, don’t say it unless you can back it up with people actually saying it.

A quote from an interview regarding his colleagues:

“What do you think of your young colleagues in the Harry Potter movies?

They are all fantastic. True professionals. I can attest to the degree to which they take their work seriously, all the while remaining children. Their performances have equally progressed enormously in the course of the films. It’s a true joy to perform with these actors who believe so much in what they’re doing. They’ve all grown up so much since the first Harry Potter, just like their characters. I think it’s great that they can all develop together.”

I believe the reason he is not saying anything is, because he can't, I doubt WB wants him to say to much, since he comes into focus in this film.

WICKED!

I think that the lovely Alan Rickman does not talk too much about HP is two fold. First, he had been trying to keep Snape a mystery and also he respects the “gag” order that WB has on discussing the characters and the future. Also, if he answered questions he would never get to talk about his other projects.

Rickman is a very private man, but he has a delightfully dry sense of humor, and we who post know, sometimes that deosn’t come across well in print.

I’ve never seen the play, but I can’t wait to see this movie. It looks too good to mis, plus its Johny Depp! :D

Avatar Image says:

I love Rickman’s work and I’m not at all surprised that he did not want to talk about HP in this interview. He wasn’t there to promote HP, he was there to promote “Sweeney Todd”.

HP is only a very small portion of his body of work, and really not his most important. (I’d say not his best, but he’s always good – just underserved.)

Rickman and Depp in the same film… proof that God exists.

Alan Rickman is hilarious. I certainly hope that a HP musical is about as likely as “Harry Pooter”. (shudder)

Cannot friggin WAIT for this movie!!! Thanks for the updates TLC!

I KNOW this to basically accurate. Alan Rickman loves the role of Snape and whilst I do not know for sure that he was tipped off by the great lady some years ago about Snape’s destiny, I believe “he did receive some good encouragement” He is looking forward immensely to the next two films.

Oh, I couldn’t agree more with you! My two favorite actors!

Does Johnny Depp really like Tim Burton and vise-versa? They’ve done a lot of movies together… Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow… Am I forgetting anything?

Ohh Sondheim. :)

Ed Wood.

i’ve been iching for this movie for a long time. i was lucky enough to see the revival on broadway and it was fantastic. i love the dark humour and Sondheim of course is pure genious with lyrics. plan to see the movie a few times if you don’t know it, just to catch all the great lines.

JUST read my screen name people and it will say it all!!!! I love ALAN RICKMAN! and Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter definetely make it worth seeing as well! just think Bella and Snape are practicing doing scenes together for the big Spinners END. By the way Alan is just one of those actors who prefers to keep quiet and not make a big deal about things and I respect him for that. By the way I love Helen McCrory as Narcissa she will be great with these two!

Thank you, Sue! The article was enjoyable, but so was the to movie clips, featurettes and behind-the-scenes clips which was available on the left-hand side of the same page. I’ve been sharing the link with everyone I know.

I have to agree with most people that the reasons why Mr. Rickman was reticent to talk about HP were very likely that he was in a position where he risked revealing too much about his character, and that he probably felt it was inappropriate to talk about HP when he was there to promote Sweeney Todd.

Avatar Image says:

Yes, I mean he never said things like I want to quit like some “hot Scot”.

I won´t see the movie, for the same reason i didn´t watch december boy-i couldn´t get the hp-characters out of my head. That´s i guess the biggest problem for hp-actors, especially when young kids see them act for the first time.

Avatar Image says:

He talks more about HP in the Sweeney Todd press junket – here’s the transcript:

http://community.livejournal.com/alanrickman/852775.html

As for the HP Porn sites, I can only imagine if he’s heard about Snape/Hermione, LOL.

Avatar Image says:

I have to say the clips were wonderful! I can’t wait to go see the movie – I’ll watch all those actors in just about anything they do!

Rickman has always been reticent, however I think he prefers to let the younger stars shine and he was keeping his mouth closed as he had been given direction concerning Snape’s character prior to the readership. He needed it in order to interpret the character correctly. I think he may finally open up fully about it after the last movie is out – but not until then.

Meanwhile – I just enjoy his acting wherever I can find it, and ST is going to be a xmas present to myself this season. What a delight!

Avatar Image says:

another “Bellatrix” pregnant? seems to be a rather conceptve role for a character that has no kids in canon.

secunda said: >I won´t see the movie, for the same reason i didn´t watch december boy-i couldn´t get the hp-characters out of my head.

Oh, secunda, you are going to be missing out. The movie looks brilliant. Thanks, Sue, for providing the link.

Avatar Image says:

I’m really looking forward to seeing Sweeney Todd. Saw a video of Angela Lanbury and George Hearn and thought it was brilliant. This film has everything I could want: music by Sondheim, Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall, Helena Bonham Carter… I’ve been humming “Epiphany”, “A Little Priest” and “Johanna” all day! I wish I could see it live, though.

If I were one of the actors in HP, though, I’d be so fed up! It must be really irritating to, on the release of a new film, having to keep answering questions about HP. It’s almost disrepectful. They’re professionals and their careers aren’t composed of only HP. I wish people would get over it.

Avatar Image says: once I saw the judge in the movie sweeny todd I knew that he played snape in harry potter.Avatar ImagecrazyforSeverus says: Sweeny Todd was the best. I'm disappointed, because this article was posted so long ago they no longer have the full Alan Rickman article up. I would have loved to read that.
