You are welcome, you are welcome, Pinefresh! Cool you joined the OMG/YEAH Fanclub!

Avatar Image says:

I’m sorry if I sound like a downer (I’m actually very excited), but I have to ask whether anyone else having trouble downloading the episode?

I open iTunes and it starts to automatically download the latest ep like usual (which takes about ten minutes with my dodgy connection) and when it’s finished it reports it as “Done,” as per usual. But then I go to the podcast list and the episode is listed there as one which hasn’t been downloaded. I’ve “downloaded” it twice now without success and it’s very strange (the file is nowhere to be found on my computer, either.) Is anyone else having difficulties?

Oh well, I hope that it works this time. While I’m waiting, I’ll just let out a few more happy squeals of excitement. :)

Avatar Image says:

Just listen to the podcast. It was awsome. Can’t wait for part 2.

Avatar Image says:

I was sitting on pins and needles waiting for someone to ask what the spell was that Dumbledore attempted casting on Voldemort during their duel in “Order”, but alas…

I love the interview so far! :) I’m looking forward to hearing the second portion!

Avatar Image says:

I’m in Australia (6pm) and I’m seriously considering skipping swimming training to go straight home and listen to this. What a treat. Thxs.

Avatar Image says:

oh my Lord I love the intro. brilliant. this is great so far :D

Avatar Image says:

Wow I thought I’d have to wait till morning … it’s 10 pm on the 18th here in NZ so YAYYYY. Almost finished downloading … thanks for putting it up so fast Melissa and everyone else!

Avatar Image says:

She mentions Hooch fanfic? !1!!!

Stream faster, damnit :D

This very rocks.

Avatar Image says:

OMG!!! I’m updating my iPod now so I can go crawl under the covers and listen! It’s freezing!

Avatar Image says:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHasldkhfalkfd

Avatar Image says:

Since Jo has so kindly and wonderfully answered questions about her characters in this interview, I think it only right and proper to return the favour lest she ever read these comments.

Madame Hooch is, of course, crazy about McGonagall and has been for many years.

She has, of course, kept this very much to herself obviously not even allowing her own author to know, but trust us, we’ve seen the evidence.

Hope that helps clear things up!

(And a thousand thanks to Jo for a wonderful interview.)

Avatar Image says:

Just finished! It was AMAZING. Now I have to wait a WHOLE WEEK for the next part! Geeeeez. Wow. So much awesomeness. Hearing her voice alongside my favorite trio for the first time is such a treat! This interview to me represents everything about Jo and Harry Potter that I love….a devotion and love for the fans. Even though I don’t work for Bloomsbury, Scholastic, WB, Leaky, Pottercast or any other organization or fansite affiliated with Harry Potter, I still feel like I’m a part of all this. It almost makes me want to cry to think how devoted Jo is to her fans. How many super celebrities do this kind of thing for their fans??!! Not many. Jo is clearly down to earth and well a “normal” person (dare I say it). Hearing her talk about Christmas shopping, etc. makes me feel like she is a next door neighbor that I can relate to in many different ways. This interview makes me feel almost like Jo did this just for me. I’ve been listening to Pottercast for a long time now and I feel like Melissa, John, and Sue are my friends. So, Jo just chatted with some of my good friends. That is awesome. When I look back on these years of the Harry Potter phenomenon and tell my future children about it I feel like I’m going to be able to say I was an active participant in the fandom. I am just so touched by this. I can hardly even contain my emotions. Thank you Jo, you are just such a wonderful person. You have made these past few years absolutely wonderful. Oh, and I must say, I live in Fayetteville, AR, USA but I read Harry Potter for the first time when I was in Europe. It was the first and only time I’ve been to Europe and looking back I am so glad I started reading them over there. It just makes it that much more sentimental to me. Well. this is really long so I suppose I will go to bed now as it’s 3:30am and I must get up in about 5 hours. Good night everyone! Thanks again Jo! Merry Christmas!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

:( No talk about romance? :(

Thanks tho guys.

Avatar Image says:

That was terrific guys, really enjoyable.

Can’t wait for the next installment.

Avatar Image says:

Wow, sorry about that comment. It’s REALLY long. I think I got a little emotional. I hope you all will forgive me!!!! G’night!

Avatar Image says:

Omg, it’s awesome, I love the way her voice sounds and she told so much what I was thinking of and I can’t wait for the Encyclopedia

Avatar Image says:

AAAH! It was AMAZING what a fantastic interview!! Can’t wait (literally) ‘till part 2!! Wow I couldn’t stop dancing while listening to it!! What a fab early christmas present Leaky and Jo!! Thank you!!

Avatar Image says:

Oh yay, there’s a part 2! And here I was thinking that it was (ahem) only 48 minutes long! The longer the better :) Thanks again Leaky! It was wonderful, just amazing to hear her voice. SamKamHPFan, that ’s how a lot of us feel, so emo all you want!

Avatar Image says:

there is new canon? I CAN’T DOWNLOAD!! my sound doesn’t work!! can anybody write the new canon?

Avatar Image says:

That was fantastic! I can’t wait for Part 2 – by the way, is it going to be released a little earlier than Tuesday? Not that listening to you guys and Jo is a bad way to spend Christmas, but seeing it was released at around 7pm Australian time today (and I’ll be out til late that night), I’d have to cross my fingers that I had time to download and listen Boxing Day in between work, seeing The Golden Compass and getting ready to go on holidays!

Avatar Image says:

Ahh that was beautiful. Thanks Leaky, for being so wonderful and hardworking that Jo couldn’t help but notice!

Avatar Image says:

That was truly incredible; so funny and honest and interesting. Thanks to Jo for participating in this and of course to Leaky for getting this set up. I’m gobsmacked; truly a great Christmas gift.

Avatar Image says:

Perfect. Waiting for the Scottish Book now.

Avatar Image says:

JKR, awesome as always! Amazing interview. I hope she does do the character info and writing info like she said for the “Scottish Book”

Do we really have to wait a week for the next bit? Ah well it’ll be worth the wait! :)

Avatar Image says:

What is a “Scottish book”, a book written in Gàidhlig?

Avatar Image says:

Eeeeee incoherent Thank you SO SO much for this interview you guys! And thank you to Jo, of course, for doing it, you AMAZING woman!! ♥

The fact that she reads these comments really scares me =P And excites me. Hello if you’re reading =D

Fiddy sounds older than I thought she was!

Avatar Image says:

The Scottish book is most likely a reference to “the Scottish Play”, which is the Shakespeare play that it is supposed to be unlucky to mention the name of (hint: the one with witches in it).

Avatar Image says:

@Becca,

it´s good she reads the comments. Most of them contain foolish remarks like “OMG”, or AMAZING”; or “I am going to die”, or “Die all you don´t like Harry Potter”.

It must be great to have fans who write on such a “high level”.

Avatar Image says:

... not that I’m awake still watching the reaction to the show or anything but…

Don’t be raggin on Fiddy! She’s cool as hell! :D Thanks to her I have my new favorite swear word… ‘Pants!’

Oh pants, i really need to get to bed!

Enjoy guys!

Avatar Image says:

@roonwit,

why “hint”?

You mean “Macbeth”, don´t you?

Avatar Image says:

I’m a bit dissapointed for the questions. All the new is that Herpo created the first horcrux and Hermione came back to Hogwarts? :-(

Avatar Image says:

Marianne: NOOOOOOOOO! you named it!

Avatar Image says:

Wonderful pottercast. I was surprised at how comfortable everyone was during this interview. I mean this was JK Rowling for God’s sake. Jo was really sweet throughout the whole interview. You guys deserve this exclusive treat for staying loyal to her and having worked so hard in the runup to the book and later as well. Can’t wait to hear the rest next week.

Avatar Image says:

@roonwit,

yes, indeed I did. No problem I suppose.

CU

Avatar Image says:

John- I’m not ragging on her! XD She’s cool! Very cool! I seem to have got her allll wrong though. I already probably offended her by calling her a man in my letter to her, whoops >_<

Avatar Image says:

Pleaeaease post that transcript! I can’t download Itunes, and reading all those excited comments makes me turn green of jealousy.

Avatar Image says:

Victoria- why don’t you just listen to it online? If you click the little play button on the right there you can listen! I’ve never downloaded a PotterCast, doesn’t mean I don’t listen! =)

Avatar Image says:

mmm. the Sorting Hat trying to Sort Harry into Slytherin because it noticed a piece of Voldies soul? Disappoints me a bit about the character of the Hat, it is just a dumb device that runs it’s magical computerprogram and has not the capacity of making real decisions. Could of course be the original intent, but the movie picture of an independent thinking being had stuck on me a bit.

Good intervieuw, first time I did not had the feeling that tying up loose ends was resulting in new loose ends.

Avatar Image says:

Is QQQ-AQ gonna to publish a list with the new of this interview?

Avatar Image says:

AQ will certainly do summaries of this interview, and probably (working with Leaky) a transcript as well.

Avatar Image says:

it will be soon, roonwit? can’t wait!

Avatar Image says:

to becca: thanks for the tip! I’ll try now.

Avatar Image says:

I am listening to it now to work out the important bits of what was said.

Avatar Image says:

LOVED Jo. LOVED the Pottercast. I’m so excited I don’t know what to write. I about fell off my chair when I heard Jo’s voice on the Pottercast. (BEST intro by the way)

Sorry, but who is Fiddy?

Avatar Image says:

I just listened to it, and I literally smiled the whole time. Oh man. Thanks Jo, and thanks PotterCast. I supremely look forward to more.

Avatar Image says:

Fiddy is Jo’s PA.

Avatar Image says:

I will wait for the AQ update, roonwit. Thanks!!!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

Wow. Thanks for that roonwit. I didn’t know that. Fiddy is one cool lady.

Avatar Image says:

Shain, you’ll be in John’s good books with that comment ;)

Avatar Image says:

LOL. But, honestly, she is. She gamely partook in that awesome intro and brought Jo to us :).

Btw, did Jo really give them the diamond version of Beedle the Bard?

Avatar Image says:

I did like the answer about the perspective of homosexuality in the Wizard World, on one hand it is much the same as in the Muggle world. On the other hand it is an issue that looses attention in the scope of Bloodline. Among the oldfashion and conservatives it’s not that big an issue if you are PureBlood and gay, of course as long as you procreate your pure bloodline. But false moral due to religion does not seem to play its role as in Muggle society. Looks a bit like the situation in old European nobility and royalty where marriage were a matter of the brain and status and not of the heart. As long as the offspring was garanteed coming from the marriage arrangement taking or leaving of lovers was nobodies business. (with the exception of lovers getting power that intervered with the social accepted picking order) In my idea the most conservative wizards are the ones having the least trouble with homosexuality, while the moderate and modern ones are the ones who would trow up dust. It was always a telltale for me that Rita Skeeter did not out Dumbledore as such; befriending a Dark Art Wizard had more scandal potention then loving a guy.

Avatar Image says:

Don’t believe anything John says. I think Jo was joking along with him (and we know the Beedle the Bard covers have SEMI-precious stones in them, ie. not diamonds)).

Avatar Image says:

Just listened to it. Very cute.

On one hand, it’s always so very wonderful to get interview info from Jo, and the banter here was sweet and fun. On the other hand, it would be even more wonderful if somewhere down the line we could get interviews which actually ask the hard questions about the themes in the books.

I enjoyed this podcast; Jo was as entertaining and eloquent as ever, but it’s hardly likely to generate any powerful new discussion, is it? Fluff and banter, nothing more.

Avatar Image says:

I have died and gone to wizard haven!!!!

Avatar Image says:

Haha…that’s what I was wondering as well. I forgot that the books had semi-precious stones. Thanks again for clearing that up :)

Avatar Image says:

Thanks guys! I really loved this! I got up early to listen :) I’m going to go to all my teachers and have them download it when I get to school, lol. I can’t wait for part 2! I’m off to squee now! Yay Jo!

Avatar Image says:

my god. That was beautiful.

Avatar Image says:

Thank you Jo, thank you Leaky, for this. It’s a great pleasure to hear the real questions asked by people who know what they’re talking about. Jo is charming (as always) and it sounds like you all had great fun.

Avatar Image says:

to becca: again, thank you very much for the tip! Just listened and i’m so happy, and since i’m belgian, three big kisses (virtual ones that is!) to you!

Avatar Image says:

What a Christmas prestent! Thanks a million Jo. Thanks also to the great Leaky staff.

Avatar Image says:

YAY SQUEEEEEE!! I can’t wait to hear it, I wish they could have put it in just one epp but oh well I suppose I’ll let them off for trying to strech it out…..meanies…

Avatar Image says:

No problem Victoria! =)

Now, I should really stop listening to this interview and go & do my uni work! =(

Avatar Image says:

Auror Ron= confirmed!

So happy!

Avatar Image says:

50 minutes of JKR!!!! this is a dream…..

Avatar Image says:

Omg! Congrats, Leaky! Thanks also for totally making my day! I came on yesterday and saw that post and then I was sooo excited that I couldn’t get to sleep! (Which is unfair because I’m the sort of person who believes going to sleep makes tomorrow come faster XD) and then I came on today and SQUEEE!!!!’D muchly as it was downloading! :D Jo is so wonderful! I can’t wait to hear mooore!

Avatar Image says:

Wriggly_Wrackspurt, I did a direct download and tried to import it into my iTunes and got no where.

I subscribe to Pottercast iTunes and when I opened it up this morning, the last file on the list is the DVD commentary for OotP. I even went to the site to get #130 and it’s not there.

I’ll try again after work but for now…nada on the JKR PC.

Avatar Image says:

OMG! I’m not one, to listen to interviews, but that was outstanding. I can’t wait, until next week, to hear more! Jo is the most amazing person, and I really do admire her! Until next week, then, YAHOOOOOOO!

Avatar Image says:

Wow, Happy Xmas.

Avatar Image says:

That was great. Really enjoyed it. Jo is so lovely, even though we already knew that..

Can’t wait for the next one.

Avatar Image says:

Transcript please!

Avatar Image says:

The Elf squabble intro was hilariously executed – Jon “Dawlish” and Sue have become fine comic presenters ;) The wonderful return of Melissa (or “Melvin”) was like your mother coming home from a long trip and seeing how the kids have fared in her absence. Then something strange happened, some stranger almost took over the rest of the show as if she knew everything – it was all downhill from there. I mean who does she think she is? The author or something? I can understand having a fan on the show for a few minutes but not for the WHOLE PODCAST! All those theories she had about the Hocuxes and Neville as if she KNEW. Sheesh. Lets have some poper guests, Leaky :)

Avatar Image says:

I want that number of Hogwarts Muggle Liason!! fun fun: giant squid – incident

Loved to listen! Really Good interview!

Avatar Image says:

Good morning all, I really want to download this interview on to my ipod and it isn’t showing up in itunes, help!

Avatar Image says:

In other good news. JKR was just announced as Time’s Person of the Year.

Avatar Image says:

PC Trio! Great job! Jo is adorable and funny and lovely, and the discussion is simply fabulous.

Well done, all!

Avatar Image says:

ImHermione1027 – Hi there. Go to your Podcat bit on itunes, rightclick on pottercast, update podcast should appear.. then just click that. Hope that helps.

Avatar Image says:

That was wonderful! Thanks to all involved

Avatar Image says:

@ Dawn: right click on Pottercast? Do you mean the icon? I am right clicking everywhere and all I get is copy iTunes url.. :(

Avatar Image says:

20 min are over and Jo sounds gr8. I cld not recognize her in the starting.

She is so friendly with these guys.

I just cant believe it that Leaky is the first site interview Jo.

Mugglenet lost to you guys in this.

I really like this site and I think its better than Mugglenet.

I hope they a have a podcast outside the UK and US and somewhere in India. There are no less Harry Potter and Dan fans here. All girls here are mad about Dan.

Avatar Image says:

So unfair. I don’t have itunes and the other link stopped at two minutes and it won’t play again.

Avatar Image says:

Oh wow, I had a theory of how Voldemort got that tiny body that at the time people were telling me was ‘pretty gross’—What if my theory was correct? Ooh and was the directory girl Jessica? Just seems like it might be.

Avatar Image says:

What a fantastic way to start the day. I loved hearing her just discussing all this. It sounded like she was just sitting down over coffee. I loved her answers, and the way she’s really thought about the small details. I really loved her answer on the missing 24 hours.

I felt so teased each time you all started to talk about the romance and the hubub after the HBP interview. I really hope you get back to that in part two because I’m so curious about what she has to say. I love that she admits she gets frustrated sometimes about people continuing to questions things when the answers are right there in the book. It was fantastic. Thanks, Leaky!

Avatar Image says:

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! What a GREAT Christmas gift! I listened with tears streaming down my face – it made me so happy!! Thanks guys!!

Avatar Image says:

HUGE THANKS from France! :-)

Avatar Image says:

This is wonderful. Many thanks to Melissa, Sue, John, and everyone else who made this possible. And the greatest thanks, of course, to Ms. Rowling, who so generously made room for her fans in her hectic schedule.

Was that really the real Fiddy?? Many thanks to her as well.

I thought the questions discussed were great. Thanks for bringing up several topics we’ve been wondering about. I loved hearing more about Neville and his family.

I just have to add this, because I know many, many people are reading these comments. There are a great many of us for whom Lupin is a favorite character, and we’d love to know more about him. Absolutely anything; there are loads of questions, but I won’t list them for fear folks will start throwing things. However, if anyone has an opportunity in future to ask Ms. Rowling any more questions, please take pity and let her know that many of us would like to know more about Lupin.

Avatar Image says:

@ Dawn- nevermind, got it, thank you!! You’re fabulous :)

Avatar Image says:

Best holiday gift, EVER.

THANK YOU, POTTERCAST!!! : ) <3

Avatar Image says:

Thank you for uploading it so early in the day, it sure made my morning run quite memorable.

Avatar Image says:

Feorge- that’s great news =D How did you find out? Can’t find anything on their website or Google news…

And haha I believe that it is the real Fiddy Henderson!!

Avatar Image says:

YEAH!!!!! Oh, Merlin – this was as great as I hoped it would be! Can’t wait for next week!!! These are episodes I will never get rid of on my iTunes – and get my vote as favorite episodes!

In my Womens Chorus, we have a phrase of “snapping the pants” at someone when they do something spectacular (hey, we’re older women – elastic waistbands are a must), So, I virtually stand up and ‘snap my pants’ at you guys for the coupe of the year, making podcast history, and giving Potterdom the greatest Christmas present ever!

Zarathustra

Avatar Image says:

Am I too much of a girl in saying that I wish you guys had talked a little more about the romances, mainly between the trio and ginny? i just love hearing jo reaffirm my beliefs about how great these couples are, esp. ron and hermione. other than that, amazing interview, you guys did great!

Avatar Image says:

Oh my god, guys…that was so awesome!!! Definately the best Podcast ever! I was listing to it in the bus to Uni today and I definately never laughed more in public. When I read the show notes “How the Scottish Book would be laid out, and more info about what will be in it ” I first thought I’d missed something essential in the last weeks. I love the part “Will it be ok if that’s (finishing the Scottish book) 10 years” looong silence. lool there are so many great little things and inside jokes I never believed you’d get the chance to joke with Jo about …or at least not in a form that you could share with us in such an awesome way! The opening was probably the best “I hope this is not about house elves” and … so many things!! oh guys…that was just the best pre christmas present ever!!! I also love that it comes in two parts! I hope, you’ll put the 2nd part online on christmas eve. I wont have internet for Christmas and boxing day :(

Thank you so much! You wrock!!!

Cheers, Fran

Avatar Image says:

wonderful interview! I am so glad you guys got to interview her!

Avatar Image says:

This is such a great christmas present! Thank you so much Jo and Pottercast, I love it and I was squeeing the whole time…..

Avatar Image says:

Maybe it’s a good thing that I am home sick today….I am on my third listen now:) I just love Jo so much! I can’t believe that I didn’t send in quiestions when you asked for them. I was so going to but completly forgot. I pretty much thought, “oh well, there will always be another voice mail show”. But not like this one!!!

Great job guys, it is great to hear Jo being so casual as well.

Avatar Image says:

I want to listen to part two now so bad! I don’t feel like I can wait till next week.

Avatar Image says:

Ah, yay! I just read that Rosi was your Brit voice and I was wondering, where I know the voice from…

Avatar Image says:

YESSSSS!!!!!!!!! I CANT WAIT 2 LISTEN 2 IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT SCHOOL 2 END NOW, I THINK IM GONNA FEIGHN SICK SO I CAN LEAVE AND DOWNLOAD IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [cough cough}

Avatar Image says:

Danni … if you download to your PC you should be able to play using Windows Media just as well as in iTunes … this is what I did and it worked just fine :-) I’m looking forward to listening to Part II

Avatar Image says:

That has got to be one of the best pottercasts ever! SQUEE!!!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

Brilliant! In informative, it’s entertaining, it’s funny! Rowling sounds just great!

Avatar Image says:

I…Well…I just….

Okay, let me preface by saying I’ve listened to PotterCast forever-since the very early episodes-and this was easily, easily the best so far! Jo was amazing! And the questions were priceless! You all seemed so relaxed, and Jo sounded so comfortable with everything! It was a delight to listen to, THANK YOU Jo, Melissa, John, Sue, and all the editors!

I really enjoyed the when Jo said she found John’s interest in Dawlish “so endearing”! It was just…cute.

Again, thanks to everyone involved!

Avatar Image says:

“This better not be about House Elves.”

I screamed! I screamed. lol.

THANK YOU SO MUCH POTTERCAST!!!!

Avatar Image says:

w00t! What an awesome thing to wake up to. A fresh new download to “PC: The One with J.K. Rowling”

Avatar Image says:

That was awesome!

Jo is…. amazing. I’m so impressed with her attitude and her candor. She is such a sport! (But I REALLY want to know more about the scary horcrux stuff she mentioned)

I am sorry that you never actually got to talk about the romance stuff in this episode. I hope it made it into the next show!

I can’t wait for the next one!

Avatar Image says:

Awesome podcast! I love the new intro. I’m still in shock that you guys finally were able to get Jo to do a podcast. Congrats!! You guys will be beating Mugglecast for sure this week!

Avatar Image says:

Just listening again, Jo sounds like she has a cold! Get well soon Jo if you do XD

Avatar Image says:

AWESOMEAWESOMEAWESOME! I was so exited :D Wow, Jo sounded so cool and relaxed, and she was really funny… Haha The Scottish Book :P AMAZING! Loved everything

Avatar Image says:

Why oh why melissa did you keep distracting jo when “romance” came up? i love hearing her talk about ron and hermione!!! squeeeeeeeeeeee

Avatar Image says:

I WANT PART TWO NOW!!!

Avatar Image says:

Roon, or ImH, a favor if you would please? While I’m awaiting the transcript, would one of you send me a pm through Leaky, with just the revelations that are directly tied to the story line of the novels? Sounds like most of the information so far is backstory/background, but if there’s something specific to understanding the novels, I’d appreciate.

There’s a logistics question that I’m curious about….this was a telephone interview I assume? It happened right after the sale at Sotheby’s, and I thought Melissa was back in stateside during that time…..

Avatar Image says:

Well done, all! I listened to it with a huge smile plastered on my face! I especially enjoyed the banter between Jo and John…those two make a hilarious pair (the diamond encrusted Beedle bit had me rolling). I think this is such a testament not only to how respected Leaky is, but also to how absolutely amazing and giving Jo is. What a way to finish a truly incredible year! Also, the new Jo intro is awesome!

Avatar Image says:

budb: Have you seen the summaries posted on AQ yet? It sounds as if the show was recorded Thursday afternoon, I would guess, despite the introduction, via something like skype.

Avatar Image says:

I liked the dimond BTB as well. One of the best lines in my opinion was Jo asking, “Don’t you think it id a bit too bling?”

Avatar Image says:

oh my god oh my god oh my god – that was totally freakin’ awesome- thank you so much! and now we have to wait for part 2??? can you release it before next week? i can’t stand the anticipation!!!!

Avatar Image says:

On the intro, was that Jessica Rowling? The voice doing the recording for Hogwarts? It sounded like a younger person.

Avatar Image says:

It was wonderful!

Jo is so lovely, it was wonderful to just hear her talk, its great that it was more of conversation than an interview! I screamed when I heard her say “This better not be about house elves!”

So much new info! I’m so happy for you guys! for Pottercast!! And yes! John is now officially officially cannon.

Avatar Image says:

What an amazing honor! I am SO HAPPY for you guys!!!

Avatar Image says:

ImHermione1027 – No problem. Sorry I didn’t answer you, I wasn’t near my computer for the longest time. Hope you enjoyed it.

Avatar Image says:

Melindaleo: “I felt so teased each time you all started to talk about the romance and the hubub after the HBP interview. I really hope you get back to that in part two because I’m so curious about what she has to say.” LoL me too. It was so frustrating they got sidetracked each time they were about to talk about romance. I hope that will feature in part 2

Nonetheless, great interview. It was such a pleasure to listen. Thanks Leaky, very well done. And of course: Thanks Jo!!

Avatar Image says:

BEST. INTERVIEW. EVER. Thank you so much Jo!

Avatar Image says:

To the ‘Jessica Rowling’ comments; up there it says With special thanks to Rosi for being our Brit voice which I’m guessing is the girl on the telephone =)

I’d like to hear more about the Horcrux thing that she doesn’t want to mention!

Avatar Image says:

How can Voldy want Lily in his Death Eater ranks when she’s Muggle-born?? He only wants pure-bloods like James and Neville, even if they aren’t really receptive to the idea.

Avatar Image says:

That was excellent, my only complaint is that it was not long enough. The trio did a great job! Thanks and keep up the great work!

Avatar Image says:

Thanks so much Leaky! I love you!!

Avatar Image says:

(listening right now) So great, thank you for this :)

Avatar Image says:

Thanks you, thanks you , thank you, thank you, thank you , thank you , thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

That was BEAUTIFUL! So hilarious and wonderful. Jo is by far the only ‘idol’ I have ever had, she is my inspiration to keep writing and maybe one day I’ll actually send my stuff to a publisher or an agent.

Thank you Jo for everything you have given us, Harry Potter, the charity, the website, the fan interviews and this podcast. You are amazing and it gives me such a warm feeling inside that you actually care enough about your fans to do this for us. Thank you!

And Leaky staff and everyone else involved with the podcast: THANK YOU! You did great and I can’t wait for part two!

Avatar Image says:

Wow, I think this was one of the best pottercast of all time.can’t wait until next week…..........LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER

Avatar Image says:

Awesome, guys :DD When it ended I absolutely understood where Lockhart was coming from, lol xD

I looved that you talked about Neville and I’m SO GLAD she said that she believed Neville could have done it. I love Dumbledore, but I always thought it was a bit harsh that people thought Dumbledore thought Neville couldn’t have done it.

He could have. Neville = Hero

LOL @ Matthew Lewis being hot stuff. I felt the same way, Jo. I saw him at an awards show and my mouth fell to the floor. Is that…is THAT NEVILLE? lol I hope they don’t make him wear the fat suit for the end book. It would make sense if they let Neville become this buff disheveled, sexy, sword swinging Beowulf type who still had that sweet Neville heart, haha.

I also want to talk about Ron/Hermione, just because I love them to bits. Jo, JO, tell me Rose/Scorpius is canon. Just…just tell me. xD

I also wanted to know why you made it so that the Slytherin’s all left and none stayed to do battle. Out of all the children in the house-I mean-not ALL of them could be pureblood or Voldemort supporters. I mean, even if it was just two kids…I felt it was a bit odd for them to all have left. Is it possible that a few snuck into battle like Colin Creevy?

Oh Colin D: He was the only death I cried over.

The reason I feel this way is because your entire series is about not judging right out. On judging people by the decisions they make, and the Slytherin’s had a choice. There had to have been at least one who was brave enough and individual enough to say, no, I will not follow the rest of you. I know that their traits include being self-preserving, but so was Worm-tail, you know?

It just seem odd to me to set the entire series has showing the evils of putting people into categories, and then going along and saying every slytherin is evil and will always choose saving their own skins or following the crowd over protecting the rights of an entire community.

And no, I feel absolutely no pity for them as a whole, but I don’t exactly want to hate all of them automatically either.

I love the idea of Harry, Ron and Hermione graduating by using the boats. Too bad Harry and Ron never do, but I would have loved to see Ron and Harry watching Hermione’s shining face as she steps off the boat. Oh. OH. I feel fanfiction coming on! lol

In the 24 hours thing, personally I feel like one of the order who heard from Hagrid might have owled everyone they knew about Voldemort’s downfall, and with those owls went more owls and etc etc.

The fountain of fair fortune was also my favorite :D and that was just from the review :C I really do wish there had been tons of stories, lol, but handwriting it was a great touch. If only you had a quick quill or something. D:

Questions and topics: - Discuss Rose/Scorpius - Discuss Ron/Hermione; where the live, pets, anything you feel would fit, just for the hell of it. Like, how did Ron pop the question? All that! - Discuss the loyalty of the Slytherins and how the house changed in Albus Potter’s time.

Avatar Image says:

Oh crap is that long.

Sorry, lol. <3

Avatar Image says:

Oh you teasers I have to wait a week for part two D: Oh it was awesome to listen to, so funny and some very interesting information. I hope she really does follow through for her ideal for the “Scottish book” it would be amazing and I really wouldn’t mind so much waiting them 10 years if we were to get that. I just wouldn’t want a book like that to be rushed.

Avatar Image says:

Please, please, PLEASE post in big letters when the transcript is available. I’m technically and equipmentally challenged, so podcasting, in all its forms, is lost on me. :-)

Avatar Image says:

Bloody brilliant! Besides being a fantastic writer, I admire Jo for being such a decent human being. To those with many gifts, much is expected, but she’s gone above and beyond what anyone would expect of her. And, we are all the more blessed because of it…

Avatar Image says:

Took me nearly all morning, but I was finally able to download the entire podcast using my dial-up. It was my first pottercast, and was extremely enjoyable. Thank you so much for the interview, yet one more reason to absolutely adore Jo – she’s so “real”.

Can’t wait for next week!

Avatar Image says:

Oh my god. That was just SO fantastic, I don’t know what to say. Jo sounded so warm and sincere, like she really, really cares about the books and the fandom and what people think. It was so great to hear her when she’s not on a news show or anything like that. And I love the sound of her voice. It’s very soothing. I can’t wait for the next show! This is truly one of the best Christmas presents ever! Jo is my #1 idol/person I look up to. Jo, you ROCK!!!!!!! btw-If you guys release the next part next tuesday, it will actually be Christmas. I loved the phone tree! It was hilarious!

Avatar Image says:

I listened to the interview on my run this morning. I started crying when Jo did the introduction (seriously, how special is THAT??), then I ran 5 miles with a huge grin on my face. Please allow me to relate how unusual and rare it is to associate smiling with running. It is much more common to see me crying, thank-you.

I second the earlier poster who said listening to Melissa, John and Sue is like listening to my friends. The fact that my friends just had a thoughtful, fun conversation with JKR is mind-blowing. It very well could have been my neighbor, Mrs. Shank; it seems so other-worldly.

The best part about this will be watching my 8 year old daughter’s reactions while she listens to it.

Avatar Image says:

Please allow me to relate how unusual and rare it is to associate smiling with running. It is much more common to see me crying, thank-you.

OK, Mrs. deMP – you killed me. That’s hilarious.

These reactions have been so touching, guys. I’m so, so moved that you guys feel this was like listening to friends – that’s what we hoped. And that you’re seeing it as what JKR and we intended it would be – a special christmas treat for fans – is just perfect. We were so nervous that you’d like it, and I had a big relief this morning when I woke up to my mother’s IM: “EVERYONE LOVES IT AHHHHHHH!” LOL. I love my mom.

So, thank you, and we’re so glad you’re enjoying it and hope you enjoy next week’s too!

Avatar Image says:

I agree totally with everyone. Was a great interview, can’t wait for next week. But my question, a rather BIG one for most fans who have agreed, is why didn’t Neville and Luna get together in the end? I thought they were perfect together. Had wierd fungi they liked in common, very similar in personality. Guys, why didn’t you ask that? I know he is with Hanna, but just didn’t make sense. I saw the build up between Luna and Neville’s personalities, and just wanted to know if she at least was thinking of that. I hope that is answered sometime in the future. PLEASE JO!!! We love you! :)

Avatar Image says:

I think my favorite thing about all of this is the fact that when John started cracking jokes that Jo just gave it right back to him! HAHA she’s great.

Avatar Image says:

I have stupid dial-up and losing connection every two minutes, so i can’t hear it. Please, please, Leaky, post a transcript on her knees, begging

Avatar Image says:

Melissa, you shouldn’t have felt nervous about whether we’d like it or not, of course we do!! Anything Jo+Leaky= one happy, HAPPY fandom!! And we should be the ones thanking you, not the other way around ;)

Avatar Image says:

Am downloading now so I can listen to bits while at work ;)

Thank you so much for this. TLC is my favorite site because they always have every story and their enthusiasm is always contagious. But this goes beyond the normal bounds of awesomeness into hitherto uncharted realms of… they’ll have to invent a new word for how cool this is. Splendificent? Awesomecellent?

Avatar Image says:

OMG!!! YAY!!! feels like i’ve been waiting for this 4 years!!!!!! GONNA LISTERN RIGHT NOW!!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! :)

Avatar Image says:

Melissa? I love that your mom knows how to IM! She’s rockin’ with the technology!

And John? I’m using “pants” on a daily basis now: much more child friendly.

Avatar Image says:

guh! i loved every minute of it but still, less fluff more details!

i especially hope she addresses how a large portion of her fan base which identifies themselves with Slytherin felt slapped in the face after the last book. or why we should respect James, cause she certainly didn’t help his fan base in DH or clarify what characteristics makes a spell “dark magic”, wether it’s intent or the type of spell itself.

Avatar Image says:

Thank you soooooo much TLC and Ms. Rowling for this wonderful interview! I absolutely loved it!

And I must add a little something here, which is quite freaky!!!!! My husband and I have been trying for a baby for over 2 years. We’ve sorta given up in a way. He knows I am a crazy Potter fan and PC listener so I joked around with him 3 months ago that I would get pregnant the day JKR would be on a show (meaning we should probably give up and go for adoption!)

GUESS WHAT! I found out this week-end that we’re finally preggo!!!!! This is the craziest thing that’s ever happened to me!

SO THANK YOU TLC FOR HAVING JKR ON A SHOW!

Avatar Image says:

WOW!!!! Your interview with Jo was awesome. Thank you, thank you, thank you…....

Avatar Image says:

Oh my god! Congratulations ‘Happy Happy Happy’!

Avatar Image says:

I don’t think I have posted my note of thanks as of yet (it’s been a busy day at work). I won’t get to listen until my train ride home from work, but I wanted to say a great big THANK YOU, to Leaky aka Sue, John and Melissa and to JKR for bringing this wonderful piece of now history to us. This interview will be remembered forever by all of us and beyond. Hearing someone’s voice is so special, similar to seeing someone on video or in a photo, it’s a moment captured in time. This moment with JKR will never be erased because you have captured it. Those words will remain because you captured them. It means to much to me personally, and to the fandom here as well. It has been a tulmultuous year for me, and then I found Harry Potter, and with that came Leaky, and the friendly fandom on here I have become so fond of. So from one beautiful moment to the next, thank you guys.

ps- the photo/graphic you have on the main page and here of Jo are gorgeous! Honestly, doesn’t she look like an angel? Well when I picture an angel, that’s what I picture :)

Avatar Image says:

Hi Guys, can anyone help me? I downloaded the pottercast from the direct link but it stops playing after 515 … just when Jo stars talking. I have downloaded Pottercasts before with no probs … is this a prob with the link or do I have a prob at my end?

Avatar Image says:

Happy, happy, happy! – that is spectacular news! Jo’s going to love reading that one!

Loved the interview especially the way Jo talks about the book world as if it is real. I do the same thing but people think I’m nuts! It’s incredible how many tiny details she knows about every character and everything else in the books! Ten years? I’ll be old enough for Social Security :(

Hope there’s some discussion of the Marauders next week but, if not, it will be a spectacular show anyway. The camaraderie among the PC Trio is always fantastic and Jo fit in as if she had been talking to them forever. Thank you, Leaky, Jo, PC Trio, editors and anyone else involved in helping this happen.

Avatar Image says:

While I certainly do enjoy Leaky doing an interview with JKR, I feel like all the things I couldn’t care less about were answered. I sat there for fifty minutes, completely bored with every topics. Hannah Abbot??? SEriusly, who cares?? House Elves? Give me a break.

And Jo not wanting to tell us about how Horcri are created – I find that extremely disappointing. She seems to withold on all the interesting details while boring us with other stuff.

Avatar Image says:

Alyssa: To me, any canon is good canon. I don’t understand how any HP fan could be bored by things like that, but I guess you think so.

It was so lovely to hear you guys talking! Melissa, John, Sue- I could just tell by your voices that while you were calm enough not to freak out and be incoherent, you were completely giddy inside at talking to Jo. It was very nice just to hear you guys talk! Jo has a lovely voice, doesn’t she? I am soo glad she cleared up the whole Harry-being-a-horcrux-but-actually-not thing. Also, I was facinated by her discription of Harry’s scar and why it hurt so much. Ah, this was wonderful! I can’t wait for the rest of it next week, you guys! Awesome job :)

Avatar Image says:

Aw come now Alyssa, surely you heard more in there then Hanna and House elves..

Don’t worry, I’m sure this week’s mugglecast will be out soon enough ;)

Avatar Image says:

Oh my God!!!!the excitement…I am sooo happy for the Pottercast trio, and I kinda felt I was talking to her too…And Jo said everything I hoped to hear and more…the perfect podcast!!Congratulations and thank you!! I can’t help but feeling proud after all.I knew the name I chose was worthy.Herpo, the only Greek wizard in the Harry Potter canon(i am from Greece)!!I knew he was a capable wizard all along!(that is a lie)What can I say?...looking forward to part 2.Again THANK YOU for this wonderful oppurtunity to (indirectly) talk to Jo!!I am proud to be a part of the LeakyCauldron community!!

Avatar Image says:

AH! it’s soo funny from the beginning!!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! Interview good so far!

Avatar Image says:

Alyssa, for me, the little “silly” stuff like house elves and Hannah Abbot and such are what make the story so in-depth! If it weren’t for the little things, the bigs things wouldn’t be interesting. And certainly there wouldn’t be as much to be a huge fanatic over! Really, do you think it’s pointless to know about house elves? Maybe you’re not a devoted PotterCast fan, but for me (I am a HUGE PC fan) it was priceless and funny and, I thought, informative. Guess you don’t share that view, but I adored this PC!

Thank you so much for putting it out there, guys!

Avatar Image says:

Brilliant! Loved every second of it, particularly because Jo Rowling sounded so relaxed. She seemed to just go along with it and have fun… she just sounds so completely different from every other interview that I’ve heard or seen her do that it’s incredible.

And wonderful sense of humour, too. I was laughing the whole way through!

I also thought the intro, with the whole phonecall thing was wonderful, and was giggling with antecipation the whole way through. John, Sue and Melissa seemed to be having such fun with it, it was wonderful to listen.

I think this may well be the very best interview so far. I can’t wait for the next bit!

Avatar Image says:

YAY!! Im so glad that we got more answers!!! And the truth about Hufflepuff and the House Elves was just great! Congrats to Sue for being right! I love how she sounds so down to earth and its amazing how she talks to you guys like it was just another typical every day phone conversation about HP. It didnt feel like a traditional interview. Very friendly and relaxed. I cant wait to hear part 2!! Great work guys! You 3 are the best!!!!!

YAY!!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

She’s so funny! I’m going to listen to it again later as I’ve forgotten most of what was said! Too excited!

Avatar Image says:

Oh, and I guess that the next one will feature questions from listeners?

Avatar Image says:

mollywobbles23-

I would assume that it was already recorded. So, probably not.

Avatar Image says:

Yaaaaaay!!! You made my day!

Avatar Image says:

Wonderful, wonderful Pottercast. Thank you guys for this unique Christmas present! Love to hear the second part! I hope Jo will write the Scottish book in 2 or 3 years’ time and not in 10! I would love to hear about the Potters jobs and so much more! There seems to never be enough information from the Potter world :-)!

Avatar Image says:

Kira-Kira, people called in with questions weeks ago, except they thought it was for an “end of the year special.” No one knew JKR would be on the show.

I really loved this show. The first 15 minutes just cracked me up, because it felt like it was a tribute to the pottercast fans who have been listening since the beginning. I love that she tackled so many of PC’s inside jokes. It made the show so special for this long time listener.

I think it’s funny that she isn’t exactly sure what happened in the missing 24 hours too. Remember how many theories were based off of those missing hours? It was the biggest mystery in the series, and our own Jo doesn’t even know what happened. LoL.

Thank you so much for this Melissa, John and Sue.

Avatar Image says:

can anyone post a transcript of this? my speakers dont work. :( :( :(

Avatar Image says:

This is awesome!! The audio quality is fantastic!!!!

Avatar Image says:

it was fantastic! Cheers pottercast!

Avatar Image says:

I have to echo all the positive sentiments. This was so great , can’t wait for part 2. I had a huge smile on my face the whole time while listening. Loved your reaction when she revealed the info about Hermione.

Avatar Image says:

Thank you… :)

Avatar Image says:

Congratulations guys. This is the ultimate high. PotterCast has gone so far! Jo is just the most amazing person ever.

Avatar Image says:

NIce summary Roonwit, thanks!

Avatar Image says:

Jenna and others, a transcript is on the way, we just need to be patient.

In the meantime, there is the summary posted on Accio Quote by Roonwit

Avatar Image says:

How about having Jo on every week? =)

Avatar Image says:

Now folks if this podcast wasn’t a great way to show you that you shouldn’t waste the first comment on posting somthing like “yay first comment” I don’t know what is. I can’t believe Jo picked up on little old me’s comment and remember that she liked it. This means a lot to me I can tell you.

Avatar Image says:

Thank you pottercast! I can’t think of anyone who I would’ve rather heard interview her. Like JKR, you guys pulled this off with smart questions, sensitivity, and just the right amount of humor.

Yes! Jo WINS!

That’s great. She sounds just as I expected sweet, smart, and just a little awkward… socially; and to me that makes her even more endearing. She would’ve made a great comedian too.

She reeks of wit.

Avatar Image says:

I have only now finished listening to this awesome – terrific – amazing – unbelievable great treat, you Melissa, Sue, John and of course our “one and only most beloved Jo” have given us. ( so sorry..I am so excited, I forget all the English words, may I write this in SwissGerman ?;) The whole day I was insufferable ( thanksfor the word Professor Snape :) because I had so much work (Christmas shopping, baking ect) to do and could not listen to PotterCast! Now I have, I just loved it…and I too was thinking that Jo talked with you like old friends – it sounded just like me and my family.when we talk about Harry ….only now…it was our IDOL our favorite writer, going into details about the books – Jo, you are such a marvelous person. My thanks also goes again to Melissa – if it were not of you – this would not have happened. Wish you all “Happy Holidays” – until next week – for part second of this Christmas-treat…!

Avatar Image says:

Nimbus xl-

Boy, is that right! It just amazes me how odd some of these comments are…though I’m sure they will continue to be so, even though someone as influential as me says otherwise ;)

Avatar Image says:
OMG THIS WAS SO GOOD LOVED IT

THIS IS EDITED HUH?

IT WOULD BE NICE TO HEAR THE UNEDITED BECAUSE THEN WE MIGHT GET MORE INFO AND STUFF

Avatar Image says:

Okay, only one disappointment.

I understand it’s not realistic (and it’s amazing how realistic the whole crazy story is) but I would’ve liked to have thought that Harry would’ve been able to enjoy one nice quiet year at Hogwarts. At least Hermione got to.

Avatar Image says:

Yeah, you have to imagine that one of Hermione’s letters would have been, “Hey, it’s May and there’s no one to fight…this is weird….”

Avatar Image says:

(puts on “Are We Nearly There Yet” voice) Caaan we haave a traaansscriipptt??

I hate listening to podcasts, I can never completely work out what everyone is saying :(

Avatar Image says:

LOL, Melissa, yes!

What I wonder about is what was the status of Hermione and Ron’s relationship over that year or so? Did they go straight to engaged, or did they take a few years? I wonder.

Avatar Image says:

:) Jo did an intro!! Haha! I was dancing with excitement across my living room when I heard her voice :)

And how heartwarming is it that she for-real named Dawlish after John? After being with PotterCast since Episode #1, I feel that she just paid homage to the entire PC fandom with that gesture.

Avatar Image says:

Melissa-That’s hilarious. I wonder if she (and the rest of them) was a little shell shocked for that last year. That would’ve been especially funny to see Hermione all madeyed out (and as head girl no less as I’m sure she was) accidentally jinxing innocent 1sties, carrying around a flask, and ambushing house elves in dark corridors with hats and socks; especially as May came around. Maybe the rest of them should’ve taken that last year at Hogwarts too before going off to the ministry.

Grace-Knowing Ron & Hermione there was probably a disastrous on-again-off-again long distance thing that people tend to do sometimes. At least we know they all ended up all right.

Avatar Image says:

omg!!!!!!!!!!that’s so cool!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

Thank you – Thank you – Thank you – Thank you – Thank yooooou!

Avatar Image says:

Oh my gosh, that was so awesome! I loved that opening bit they did! Very, very clever! I was laughing so hard. And oh man, wasn’t it great to hear Jo laugh like that when John mentioned Madam Hooch? Yay!

Avatar Image says:

sorry, to cool you a bit guys, but haven´t you realized how melissa tried to out Jo for stealing ideas from fans and always pointed out the huge mistakes. Her last comment about John always being right didn´t it feel like she was about to say Jo you have no idea about the backstory you just use John´s ideas?

The Question about Hannah was a wonderful trap. Loved how she outed jo as absolute clueless about her own books. There was not a bit of humour in her voice. Guess Melissa has seen Jo mess up to often. The remark about decisions in Jo´s random world was no joke, guys. Melissa is frustrated and right she is.

Avatar Image says:

Whoooooa, there, Secunda.

I am not nor have I been frustrated, nor was I about to say anything close to Jo using John’s ideas. The idea of Jo contradicting herself in canon and interviews is interesting, and relevant, and not seen as high treason by we or her. She likes being trapped like that, being put to the test by people who know her books well – she loves when people are aborbed in it, love it, the way we do.

NO ONE knows more about Jo’s books than Jo. But she is a writer, and what she ends up putting to the page in the actual printed books can change at any time – whether from an old notebook or from the page previous. She has a right to do that. But we wouldn’t be the kinds of fans we are, if we didn’t notice those little inconsistencies and ask her about them. That’s just FUN. And she knows that, and revels in it, too.

Jo’s ideas are her own; and John would be the first to say there’s no way she’s using his ideas. It’s that there are places they both agree that would be nice things to do, that’s all – like the boats. She probably hasn’t worked out the actual rituals, and thought, oh, wow, what a nice idea. And it’s still her right to use it if she wanted to.

So please, please, don’t put words or ideas or thoughts into my mouth or head – I was not in the LEAST bit frustrated, only loving the chance to get some details put right because we love doing that, as fans.

Avatar Image says:

posting once again-i really loved listening to this interview, particuraly because, unlike with “official” news\talk show type interviews it sounded like we were just listening in on a converation of some friends over a cup of coffee. that’s what really (besides the fact that i just LOVE pottercast) makes it stand out for me. also, i absolutely loved the way john and jo kept up the steady stream of jokes! and i’m also going to state-i truly almost cryed when jo first came on and did the intro. LOVED it!!!

Avatar Image says:

Oddly enough, Secunda, I didn’t see a scrap of evidence towards that theory. Melissa just defended everyone involved, and said it perfectly, so I won’t make myself sound stupid by commenting on your comment too much after she did it so well. Just saying…You’re wrong. Sorry, but ya are.

Avatar Image says:

Ok, sorry for abusing you. But I wonder how often JKR thinks oh wow! I might use John´s ideas.

But sorry, really! I shouldn´t have written in your name, sorry. Maybe I am frustrated with Mrs Rowling.

But the part about the master-soul was quite interesting. (Sounds like I am totally spineless)

Avatar Image says:

and yes, secunda-please don’t vent your frustration at people.

Avatar Image says:

Agh! I think I may cry!

Avatar Image says:

I count myself dissappointed so many comments are just happy about the whole thing, and don’t have any real answers of what was actually said. Puttin’ the move on that transcript would be much appreciated, as having dial-up = no downloading such a lengthy clip. Thanks.

Avatar Image says:

This is so awesome! I was literally squealing in the first half of it. I’m on the edge of my seat hoping she’ll maybe answer the question about who Draco married. It’s KILLING ME!! I want to listen t the other part now! Haha.

Avatar Image says:

With regard to Hannah being half-blood, there is a slight issue that Voldemort thought it worth murdering her mother early on in HBP, which implies she was a witch, but her surname suggests that her wizarding heritage is on her father’s side. Of course there are ways to resolve that, but I do think it fits best into the books if she is pure-blood.

Avatar Image says:

Secunda, I doubt Jo had much time to listen to Pottercast last year and say “Oh there is a good idea.” I know last year I posted on the Leaky Lounge that the only way Harry could be a horcrux is if a piece of soul accidentally split off and hit Harry. I said he wouldn’t be a real horcrux, but something similar, and that regardless if he was or not, we’d still have to search for 6 objects other than Harry. Just because I was right, doesn’t mean Jo was trolling the boards and stole my idea. The woman has been planning this series for over a decade.

Avatar Image says:

Secunda-

I’m not going to get all MAFIA on you (yes, the Melissa fan club, not the actual thing), but I would like to say something. Why oh why would you be frustrated with either Melissa or Jo? Both seem like truly wonderful people, though, admittedly, I don’t know either of them. Authors – including our lovely J.K. Rowling – are imperfect, just like everyone else. As Melissa said, they can get trapped by the little stuff as easily as anyone in a regular conversation could. Really, Harry Potter is one of the most consistent books series in the world. I’m not sure if that was what was bothering you about her, but I needed to get that out of the way.

Also (and sorry for the rant!) about Jo “using John’s ideas”...Jo, as far as I am aware, doesn’t even listen to PotterCast, except mabye recently. So, there is no reason to believe she has even ever heard most of John’s theories, brilliant as they are. I think it is absolute credit to Jo that she could take questions about Dawlish and House Elves so seriously, without batting an eyelash. She clearly has thought everything out quite thoroughly, and I believe she is one of the most amazing, talented, and worthy authors out there. Definetly, in my mind, the most talented alive today.

Again, sorry for the rant…I am a very protective MAFIA fan as well as an HP fan :)

Avatar Image says:

I’m just elated! How awesome was it just to interview the very special Jo? I would love to know other things, not book specific, like does she listen to any wizard wrock? Does she love that the fandom continues to raise awareness of the voldermort’s in this world and tries to spread the essence of Lily’s love? Is she excited that the fandom tries to raise funds for various charities? I would just give anything to talk with her for even a brief moment. Leaky Team, you know I adore all of you! You are awesome! Jo is awesome and I just can’t wait to listen! Merry Christmas to us, huh? Hugs to all!

Ah, really? Any other author who had made so many mistakes like rowling had been sliced to pieces by their fans. and of course i vent my frustration at somebody else. I´d be foolish to hurt myself. and about the auction: There is one name that describes it best: CALIGULA

Now you had to pick up your Sueton instead of harry potter to know what this is about. And MAFIA is a good name….very telling…

Avatar Image says:

OH MY Gosh! Best Post-Deathly Hallows Interview yet! I’m listening to it right now, and it’s Brilliant!!! PotterCast Rocks!

Avatar Image says:

Isn’t it funny how quickly we beat down those who say bad things about our dear PotterCasters and favorite author? Rather cynically, though, that’s one of my favorite parts of our fandom :D

But, yeah, I agree with Grace Weasley on this one. When I first read secunda’s post, I got quite indignant. “What? How dare she/he?!” But now I just kind of find it funny….How people can post on an HP site, which completely worships J.K.R., and not expect to be shot down….

Avatar Image says:

Oh my God, I can’t believe how stupid this Secunda person is! What does this person really think? That’s there’s the slightest chance we WON’T defend those we love?

And Secunda, where you hell do you get the mistaken impression that JK Rowling has ever messed up? God.

Avatar Image says:

Avatar Image says:

Not to expect….believe me I´m here long enough to know how fans react. I was once like you. The most cynical thing is that I´m still here, but I´m a believer…

Avatar Image says:

Secunda, why did you reply to me like that? Yes, I did rant, I admitted to it. But at least i kept it polite. No reason to be so scathing.

Avatar Image says:

Re: Horcruxes vs. Horcri:

I’m currently in my second year of Latin, and I was a little caught off guard by Jo’s statement that “Horcri” would be more accurate as a plural form, because as a matter of fact, it wouldn’t. The correct plural form of “crux” in Latin is actually “cruces”, not “cri”, since it’s a third declension consonant-stem noun. Accordingly, if you were to Latinize the plural form of “Horcrux”, it would be “Horcruces”, which is a lot closer to “Horcruxes” than it is to “Horcri”.

Avatar Image says:

I have listened to the podcast 4 times now. Yes I know…not enough but I am kind of busy today you know ;) Frankly, listening to this podcast is like listening to a godess conversing with 3 angels. What am I talking about, Jo is a Goddess !! And wait a minute, Melissa, Sue and Jon ARE angels!!

Avatar Image says:

C., SEND IT IN!!!

Avatar Image says:

Secunda-I will admit that Jo has made mistakes. Every human being has. But now your just blaming people. “Any other author who had made so many mistakes like rowling had been sliced to pieces by their fans.” On the contrary, I think it remarkable that Jo has only made this many mistakes seeing as she has been planning and writing this for 17 years. Also, I’m sure the people over at Melissa’s fan club are very nice people and nothing like the Mafia. So, maybe you just aren’t having a very good day, but seriously don’t take it all out on Melissa and Jo and everyone else.

Avatar Image says:

I’m laughing a bit humorlessly right now. Did Secunda even read Grace Weasley’s post? She or he seems to have disreguarded ever good point she made, and instead grasped pointlessly at the auction and the name Mafia, which, by the by, stands for Melissa Anelli Fans In Action. It’s, uh, hello, a joke!

Avatar Image says:

Melissa, John, & Sue, you guys did great. It sounded like you were having a blast, and because of it I had fun too. Jo is so funny and caring! I’ve always loved pottercast, like having friends in your pocket once a week, and this was a great Christmas present!

What a great week for fandoms! Jo interview for the best hp site on the net, and also the hobbit is going to be made by peter jackson. Off topic, but still. What an awesome week.

I can’t wait for the rest! Is there a lot more, or did we hear the majority of it today?

Avatar Image says:

Go go, secunda! As one of the brave folks who found the many, many faults and flaws in the last book and posted them up online for the world to read, I applaud your honesty. It’s truly tiring hearing constant posts about how she’s ‘god’ and people worshipping the ground she walks on. Comments like this: “And Secunda, where you hell do you get the mistaken impression that JK Rowling has ever messed up? God.” (kalia)

Leave me half disgusted and half cynically amused. I wish there were more like you; too bad they don’t often speak their minds because they are always attacked by the more rabid fans, who think every shred of criticism is a personal attack.

Thanks again for a breath of fresh air, A Former Potter Fan

Avatar Image says:

I don’t understand your reference to Caligula and why that would be relevant to the auction. If you trying to say it was extravagant, many of the Roman emperors were extravagant and for a much longer time than Caligula (i.e. another Caesar, Nero) and they didn’t do it for charity like Jk and Amazon. Maybe you are trying to say it was crazy, but Caligula crazy is very definitely bad crazy. And, though very much into classics (i.e. I am a Ancient Greek and Latin and Classical History double major), I also don’t understand why people should be reading Suetonius and De Vita Caesarum. I am not attacking you (though I believe you are wrong), I just would like some clarification. And if you like Classics so much, you should love Harry Potter. There are classical allusions everywhere and JK did Classics in college!

Avatar Image says:

Eh, ignore secunda, whoever they are. They’re probably just trolling. Otherwise, they totally woke up on the wrong side of the bed today and you should still ignore them.

Avatar Image says:

Thanks guys for a wonderful interview. I loved the elf fight intro and Jo’s intro as well – very cute!

As for people mentioning ‘boring discussion’ I could listen to Jo talk about the books and characters all day long.

I am particularily interested in what drew Lily to James Potter and if Jo would like to discuss my favourite character Snape further and Dumbledore as a manipulator (or her defense of his actions) I would love that too! Anyway I hope some of the above is covered in part 2, but I’m sure I will enjoy it no matter what!

Thanks Leaky and Jo for doing this, it is very, very special.

Avatar Image says:

Wait, no! I don’t mean that I want Secunda to leave, or that I can’t understand that this is his or her viewpoint! I certainly don’t treat J.K. Rowling like God; I just am saying, she’s not some villian and Secunda totally threw it straight to the extremes. There is no reason that I can see to be hateful on either sides of the field. Secunda as well as Anon are being unreasonable, but it is also unreasonable to say Jo is perfect. Just that she is not evil, for goodness sakes! If you want to hate on Jo herself, that is taking it way to far on an HP fan site. If you only see some flaws and you point that out without being mean about it, you probably won’t be killed for it!

Avatar Image says:

Guys, this thread has been so positive and wonderful. Let’s not start bashing on each other now, k? Thanks :)

Avatar Image says:

Secunda, if you’re going to make allusions to Roman literature or suggest we should read it, you could at least get Suetonius’s name right.

Avatar Image says:

sheez, I take a day offline and come back to….?

mollywobble, isn’t it a great feeling when “we guessed right”! That a bit of Voldy had attached to Harry was obvious from the end of CoS, and from HBP we could work out that Harry wasn’t “a real Horcrux” since it was unintentional and he wasn’t protected by enchantments by V…..

as for the last two days of ‘stuff’, i am a bit bewildered. Even now, in my dotage, I do believe that people act for semi-logical reasons, that they have motives. But, between yesterday’s insistence that there were rifts between the HP fan sites, and todays about ‘frustration’ between Melissa and JKR, I must admit that my optimism is being stretched.

Secunda, the only point I will raise is your assertion that “any other author” would have been sliced and diced by readers. Frankly, I don’t see any other contemporary author being scrutinized so closely (and often, very inappropriately) for every word she said or wrote. Are there contradictions and gaps? Sure, we all know that, what’s the big deal? Are we promised more from the author, some of which may close those gaps or paper over the contradictions? Yep, we are…if we are patient enough to wait. And last, what other author does anyone know who does spend so much time trying to respond to fan concerns? Let’s be specific now, please…

Chocolates are in the bowl on the counter….can we start shifting toward a less cantankerous and more productive line of discussion?

Avatar Image says:

Aeterna: I think that you may have misinterpreted what she said. If I’m guessing right you are referring to the part where she says something along the lines of as a linguist . . . She was interrupted however and did not finish the phrase, she did not specify which form she thought more accurate linguistically.

Avatar Image says:

Anon (Secunda also)-how can you stand up for this person? I have no problem with people who find inconsistincies with the books, I don’t think Jo does either. In fact, from listening to the interview and reading one of Melissa’s comments it sounds as if she revels in how much the fans know and getting caught in tight places. But Secunda has just been plain mean-spirited to Jo and the Pottercast people. I mean, I really doubt that Jo one day while working on the plot hor book 7 and deceided to listen to Pottercast, heard one of John’s ideas and was like “I think I’ll steal John’s idea!” And plus she had probably already worked out all those details before we even started theorizing about DH.

Avatar Image says:

budb! I knew you’d have your chocolates handy. LoL. Have you been able to listen to the show yet? I know you said you have dial-up, but wasn’t sure you had a chance to listen on a different computer.

So what else did Jo talk about that was so interesting… I’m glad she mentioned the wombats and why she made them in the first place. She is hilarious.

Avatar Image says:

Nicole: Yes, she did get cut off after she said, “as a linguist”, but before that, she said that “Horcri” would have been the more correct plural, when it wouldn’t have. However, we all know that our dear Jo is fallible sometimes, so I won’t hold it against her, especially since she chose “Horcruxes” anyway, which is a perfectly viable English plural, and which has a better sound to it than “Horcruces” or “Horcri” anyway. I’m just pointing out that if we were to go the Latin route, “Hocruces” would be correct.

Avatar Image says:

Ok, more positive discussion!

I knew that Hermione would go back to school. There is no way she wouldn’t have taken the NEWTS. Harry and Ron were never bad students and they received OWLS and have their specific talents, but Hermione’s talent is scholarly work and I think for someone who become a lawyer, she would have had to have taken the NEWTS and to have studied. For the Auror Department, experience in the field is more relevant (as compared to law, which needs litigation and lots and lots of reading books) and the NEWTS didn’t have to be the only consideration. And I would imagine that Harry, Ron, and Neville (surprising, right? And I wonder when Neville left and became a teacher? Probably when Professor Sprout left or became headmaster or something or when he married Hannah, she wouldn’t have to worry about him. And also maybe Neville had to take the Herbology NEWT at that point, which he would have aced) would have to have gone the training that McGonagall and Tonks described, many not right away, but later just to hone their already amazing skills.

Avatar Image says:

SQUEE! I just finished listening and I can’t wait for next week!

Avatar Image says:

Woo hoo it’s downloading! cantwaitcantwaitcantwait cantwaitcantwaitcantwaitcantwaitcantwaitcantwaitcantwaitcantwait

thanks guys, you give the bet christmas pressies…Jo too of course! xxx

Avatar Image says:

Please do, Anon. I have no problem when people find inconsistency in the books, nor when they don’t think Jo is perfect, as I have already said. Since you resent being called unreasonable, I apologize. I do stand by what I said, though – Secunda was definetly saying it in a mean-spirited way, so I didn’t think it was morally reasonable to congratulate him or her for it.

Sorry if you resent a thirteen year old telling you this, but it’s what I think and I’m not afraid to say so.

Avatar Image says:

Mollywobble, no, i really have given up trying to download anything large, I’ll just be satisfied with Roonwit’s summary until the transcript is available.

Its interesting, isn’t it Melissa, the wide variety of “after book seven” scenarios we all came up with! ...I had one from a couple of years ago: Voldy defeated, of course, but Ron died in the process….harry as headmaster and Hermoine taking McGonagall’s place at Hogwarts…Half the fun of readying has been conjecturing what might possibly happen ;-)

Disappointed tho that Hermoine found her ‘calling’ in law, especially after that wonderful sarcastic remark to Scrimgeour! but, that’s my anti-attorney bias showing

Avatar Image says:

ah, Grace, ya can’t hide behind being 13 (almost 14 if I recall!). Just keep being polite, write clearly and continue your practice of building logical arguments, and you’ll keep on being a good contributer! ;-)

Mollyw, I should point out that in real life I actually DO have a rather large stash of chocolates hidden up in the closet for the family….

Avatar Image says:

Gah, this Anon person is really annoying me…It’s the taking the one sentence they get offended by out of the entirely reasonable polite paragraph that makes me upset. Like, do you read the posts?

Avatar Image says:

Sorry, budb, if I sounded like I was trying to hide behind my age. I prefer to be treated like an adult…I believe I’m capable of having conversations like an adult, so why not be treated fully like one within those conversations? So, certainly not hiding behind my age.

Avatar Image says:

I was extremely excited to read that Jo would be on Pottercast. I downloaded it first thing this morning and I became so emotional when I heard her voice, that I actually teared up. It’s a rare and wonderful thing to be so happy that you cry. Thank you Melissa, John, Sue and Jo for this amazing, wonderful gift. I am absolutely thrilled and am eagerly awaiting part two of the interview. There are many more things I’d like to know and I’m sure that I will have some answers next week, but I hope we don’t have to wait ten years for that Scottish Book. I don’t think my nerves could take that long of a wait. I might end up in St. Mungos on the same ward as Gilderoy Lockhart. :D Merry Christmas to all the staff and posters here at Leaky.

Avatar Image says:

P.S. Maybe the reason I mention my age is because I’m very cynical…I like to see the way people almost instantly change the way they talk to me. It’s actually more respectful, most of the time! LOL.

Avatar Image says:

One of the topics from today (I’m using Roon’s summery here) that surprised me was “Bellatrix went after the Longbottoms because they were efficient and successful at their jobs as aurors.” I had thought that the Prophecy might have served as a motivating reason for the attack, the Longbottoms (like the Potters) being identifiable as the parents who three times escaped Voldy

Has anyone wondered if the Potters were living in the Dumbledore house in Godric’s Hollow? Or, a house inherited from James’ parents?

Avatar Image says:

just yanking your wand, Grace! Just keep doing what you are doing!

Avatar Image says:

Well Grace Weasley, I think you have made some very impressive points…and you were probably the most diplomatic here, and I’m not sure how you kept from doing the immature thing and writing swears at Anon and Secunda in all caps…Something I would have done and later regreted, because that poorly represents the HP fandom. A thirteen – almost fourteen – year old who can debate like you is impressive :D

Avatar Image says:

By “next week” do you really mean next Tuesday? Because that’s the 25th, and while I will CERTAINLY tear myself away from my family to listen to the goddess Jo, I’d rather not.

BTW Jo if you’re reading this: Consider starting a religion. I’d convert.

Avatar Image says:

Hah, thanks, Jessa. Being the only girl – who just happens to be the middle child- in a family made up of boys comes in handy now and then when it comes to debating ;)

Avatar Image says:

We’ll put it out before Christmas don’t worry :)

Avatar Image says:

I half thought that when Jo picked up Sue and John were going to die, because you hadn’t told them, Melissa. That reaction would have been so unbelievably fantastic!

Avatar Image says:

So I dowloaded this at two in the morning last night and listened to it right then. But I have to admit that I needed to stop it at one point because I was crying. When I heard Jo’s voice, and she was in on the Hufflepuff/house elves joke, I lost it. She actually cares enough about her fans to get involved in things we’re involved in, like podcasts. I have always had the greatest amount of respect and admiration for this woman, but after hearing her joking, and talking to the trio, it hit me just how wonderful she is. I love her! And I’m really excited to say that I met a woman (Melissa) who is on a first name basis with JKfreakingRowling!

Avatar Image says:

bubd, I don’t know about the Potters living in the Dumbledore home. It would have been painful for Dumbledore to go back there again, even just the town, let alone the house. And even though Aberforth was part of the OOTP, would he have wanted a happy family to go to a home where everything was ruined for him and his sister had died? I am not completely sure about it and it is absolutely possible that it was the Dumbledore home, but I think even if Dumbledore learned from his pain and if Aberforth would do the right thing to help Order members, it would have been a very touchy thing for Dumbledore to even suggest when he was only a very tepid terms with his brother. BUT, Dumbledore probably chose GH in general because he knew it was a good wizarding town.

Also, I am unsure, but I had the impression that Bathilda lived right next to the Dumbledore home and but she made made Harry and Hermione in Bathilda’s Secret walk down a couple of houses from the old Potter home. So, maybe that settles it?

Avatar Image says:

Hey Melissa,

What are the odds you can get Jo to be a regular member of the show?

Patrick

Avatar Image says:

I really try not to fangirl-out most of the time. However, I must must express that next week cannot possibly come soon enough! ... OMG!

Avatar Image says:

Yeah, she’d fit right in! You can pull a few strings, right?

Avatar Image says:

I heard it as soon as I got up, it was awesome, everything I expected and more!!! This is the best birthday gift ever, my birthday being tomorrow, thanks Pottercast crew John, Sue, Melissa!!!and of coarse J.K. Rowing for doing this and being so totally awesome!!!

Avatar Image says:

Yeah, she’s so down-to-earth and knowledgeable. Wouldn’t SHE be fun in Canon Conundrums?

John: Okay, today’s topic! We’re discu- Jo: It was the socks. Next one. Sue: Right, um… Professor Sin- Jo: Not in the least. Sue: But- Jo: Female. Next one. Melissa: ....

Avatar Image says:

My ipod is charging, I can´t wait to hear it, it´s almost 23:00 here in Brazil!! I´ve read that Jo reads comments, Jo, we share a birthday!! Thanks for doing this!!

Avatar Image says:

Oh, and I am so totally jealous of John! She actually admitted that Dawlish was named after you and she’s going to put it in the Scottish Book! Thats so amazing! JKR loves you!

Avatar Image says:

“BTW Jo if you’re reading this: Consider starting a religion. I’d convert.” AHAHAH. i think i agree. :O

Avatar Image says:

LOL Patrick: Something she said that might endup as an outtake speaks to that idea, actually. She’s very naturally funny.

Avatar Image says:

I’m not sure we ever really settle anything, Melissa M…we sometimes manage to narrow down the range of possibilities tho ;-)

Good points you raise re why it wouldn’t be the Dumbledore home, even if i’m not 100% persauded. As for Bathilda living next door, I forget if the wording was precise (right next door) or just next door. Depending on where one lives that phrase has some elasticity to it: where I live now, “next door” can refer to someone three houses down, across the road…and a mile down the road.

And I don’t recall any background on where James was raised…we’ll need to wait on the Encyclopedia (“The Book That Can’t Ne Named”) for that

Doesn’t matter really, just conversation

Avatar Image says:

Can you imagine trying to voice a theory or discuss something with Jo right there. I’d be so intimidated! I thought it was so funny when she made the comment about fans asking stupid questions and John said he was scared to talk now. I don’t know how the three of you kept your composure so well. I would have been freaking out talking to my hero. Or should i say my god? I’m converting!

Avatar Image says:

Melissa- something speaking to which idea? a) Rowlingism b) The Pottercast Quartet of Melissa, John, Sue, and Jo or c) Jo on Canon Conundrums?

I’m losing track of what I post… =)

Avatar Image says:

oh, Melissa (our webmistress, aka She Who Must be Obeyed ;-):

If there is an opportunity to gather possible questions for JKR for some future interview, I have a batch that were compiled collectively over the past 6 months or so from some regular posters here at Leaky

One of the more interesting came from the young daughter of poster Lady Hawke, who wondered if Harry could get paintings of his parents so that he could talk with them. Pretty good for such a young fan, yes?

Avatar Image says:

Patrick: b (and I guess that would mean c too)

Avatar Image says:

Melissa, John, Sue and Jo: thank you so much for the best Christmas present ever! You’ve really made my week. Just one thing, did you go back and talk about romance or did you definitely got sidetracked?

Avatar Image says:

Oh goodness! If Jo joined the show, would she come to Terminus with you guys? :) You have outtakes from the show?! No! Don’t take out anything! Its all briliant!

Avatar Image says:

OMG, that’s much more exciting than a religion, especially with the whole Potter Christian values thing.

budb&Melissa – If you do do that, please ask SOMETHING about Minerva McGonagall. I am on the verge of dying here. At least McGonagall would be truly interested in a Scottish Book!

Avatar Image says:

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait!!!!!

Of course, I wish it were a little longer, but I’m so excited, and happy that you got to talk to her and OMIGOODNESS!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

Patrick, thanks for the compliment, but you confuse me with someone else. I’m not a Leaky staffer. I have, however, been told regularly that I am an insufferable know-it-all ;-)

Avatar Image says:

Great interview guys! I hope you talk more about romance in next week’s segment. Is that answering service at the beginning really her phone system? I would love it if there really was a public Muggle/Hogwarts Liaison phone system that people could call.

Avatar Image says:

budb- Oh no, I know that you’re not a staffer. I was just adding on to your post so I wrote your name :)

Avatar Image says:

Pleassssse pass on to Jo that, if she has to choose which type of “Scottish book” to do first, many of us would love to see the “how she wrote it” stuff. It’s always inspiration for those of us who write (or have pretensions about writing) to see the stops, starts, and decisions. What a wonder, to see how she crafted Potterverse.

Avatar Image says:

Wonderful! So much information literally bubbling out of her. To the fans who have been whinging about too much information being given out after the books, I just have one thing to say…pfffttt!

When next week will the next portion be put up? Next Tuesday is Christmas, so I’m guessing it won’t be then.

Avatar Image says:

I’m just chatty today, don’t mind me. To add onto the post above mine, I think that Jo should go with the factual canon first and publish an appendix of just pure notes.

Avatar Image says:

chuckling, Patrick…seems a lot of us are chatty! besides, isn’t it time for our last minute additions to the wish list for Santa?

heading off, on my current umpteenth re-read of PoA

Avatar Image says:

budb, I agree. Do you think Santa would bring me Jo for Christmas? (of course, if we all convert to Rowling religion… Santa WOULD BE Jo! Or perhaps Slughorn. Don’t forget to leave out the mil… mead and the cook… pineapple!

Avatar Image says:

I really enjoyed it’ I love it when Jo does interviews with fans.

Avatar Image says:

cw, Melissa said earlier in the comments that it will be out before Christmas :]

Avatar Image says:

This is just awesome!! Best interview ever! Really funny, especially since Mugglenet posted a link to here…

Avatar Image says:

Excellent job Pottercast!!! I still want to know more about Prof McGonagall though, and the background of Prof Lupin.

Avatar Image says:

Gotta love Jo. Thanks to her for doing this and thanks to Sue, Melissa and John for doing such a great job hosting the event. I look forward to part two.

I also echo the sentiments that I think that a book (Scottish or otherwise) giving some insight into the craft of fiction writing and the specific approaches that Jo has taken – what works, what doesn’t – would be a very interesting read indeed. And even if it took ten years, I would still be interested and want to read it.

Avatar Image says:

Stephen King wrote a book on writing, and it’s fantastic. I’d love to see Jo do the same.

Who am I kidding, though, I would fawn over a superhero comic about wooden mules if Jo was involved.

(Especially if she drew it. She is FANTASTIC at drawing.)

Avatar Image says:

Guys don’t listen to Secunda. She’s a member of a bizarre cult called the ‘snapefen’ who pretend they have MARRIED severus snape on ‘the astral plane’. Don’t pay any attention to the creepy loser and her stupid jo-bashing

Avatar Image says:

I was so shocked that Voldemort wanted James and Lily to join him!

Great interview. Very entertaining and I can’t wait for part 2!

Avatar Image says:

Melissa, John, Sue and Leaky – thank you so much for doing this!!!

I love the new theme song!

Avatar Image says:

“Pleassssse pass on to Jo that, if she has to choose which type of “Scottish book” to do first, many of us would love to see the “how she wrote it” stuff. It’s always inspiration for those of us who write (or have pretensions about writing) to see the stops, starts, and decisions. What a wonder, to see how she crafted Potterverse.”

I would LOVE to see that! I read that book Stephen King wrote about writing and I loved it. If Jo would ever do that; that particular JK Rowling book would be my ‘bible’. It would never leave my nightstand and I would probably take it with me everywhere.

Oh please Jo will you consider writing a book about your Harry Potter writing? Pretty please?

Avatar Image says:

OMG !!!! This is so cool! haha (no I’m not going crazy) he he ha ha eye twitches

Avatar Image says:

I have to ask because I’m still confused?!? If someone has the answer please please please tell me.

The basilisk poison did not get rid of Voldemort soul because Harry got the antidote, so the vessel holding the Voldemort soul (Harry) was not destroyed.

When Voldemort tried to kill Harry with the Elder wand, that did get rid of the Voldemort soul even though, again, Harry was not destroyed (clearly!) because Harry was able to return to his body (and the Elder wand AK couldn’t have been completely effective because Harry was already the wand’s master at that point).

So what’s the diff between the two? If Harry wasn’t destroyed by the Elder wand AK, then how oh how did that get rid of the horcrux???

Okay, so yes, Harry’s not a real horcrux, so maybe he didn’t have to be destroyed in the same way, but if that is the case, why was the basilisk poison not enough?

I just can’t see the Elder wand AK as sufficient when the basilisk poison wasn’t; in both cases, Harry was able to return a fully functioning body. Right??

What am I missing?? Some brilliant person out there . . . please help me out with this

Avatar Image says:

omg! so good. i was soooooo excited that even though it was 11-30 pm last night i had to listen to it. i was lying in bed laughing and crying and i just thought WOW. THANK YOU LEAKY!!!

Avatar Image says:

Thank you so much for this interview. I can’t wait to hear the second part!

Avatar Image says:

Thank you Pottercast and thank you Jo! I began listening to the latest episode from itunes while watching my dog romp about the dog park. I originally thought that you all were joking about having JKR on the show, but when I heard her voice and hilarious agreement to do the show for lack of anything else to do, i screamed so loud that it created a silence across the entire park. Well worth the momentary embarrasment though.

This has made my Christmas! I love listening to Jo speak about Harry Potter or anything for that matter- she is so incredibly articulate and warm and approachable. This was a fantastic show, and my dog would also like to say ‘thank you’ because he ended up getting to stay at the dog park for 2 hours because I wanted to listen to the episode twice=)

Avatar Image says:

gentle friends and fellow potter fans,

we agree to disagree, and we do that often, and passionately. Can we please avoid any personal attacks on individuals that we disagree with?

Avatar Image says:

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH, JO!

Avatar Image says:

molasses, when Voldemort hit him with an AK in the forest, Harry died, but was in limbo between life and death. Certainly Harry’s body wasn’t destroyed (he didn’t blow up into a million pieces) but he was killed.

When he was posioned, he didn’t die. He was dying, but he was healed. As long as that piece of soul in Harry had something to hold on to (harry’s body/soul) it wasn’t going anywhere.

Jo is arguing that when you die, everything that makes you who you are is gone. Yes your body is still on earth, but you’re not. When we see Harry in limbo (I call it that because its the only thing I can think of), we see the fragile piece of voldemort that was attached to Harry. Harry chose to go back, but In doing so, that piece was left behind. There was no way for it to reattach itself to Harry. Remember, when the trio destroyed the horcruxes, they weren’t destroying the object the soul was in, they were destroying the pieces of soul themselves.

Simpliest way to look at it: How do you get rid of a horcrux? You destroy it. How do you destroy a human being? You kill it.

Avatar Image says:

Oh another example! What if nagini had been stabbed with a basilisk fang but was quickly healed by phoenix tears (assuming phoenix tears heal animals too)? The piece of voldemort’s soul would still be alive. So when Neville chopped her head off, her death destroyed the horcrux.

Avatar Image says:

Hm, It’s going to take me a couple of days to slog through the comments, but I wanted to say THANKS to Leaky and Jo for sharing once again. Can’t wait for part 2 :)

Oh, by the bye… It’s perfectly acceptable among gamers to say “powned”, especially younger ones… but us old fogeys will maintain that “pwned” is properly pronounced “owned” ;-)

Avatar Image says:

Loved it. I want that phone number!! I want to call Snaaape! Too bad you didn’t talk about Snape in the interview though. I hope you do in Part II. Can’t wait for that Scottish book.

Pottercast has officially reached superstardom…..Now you are all celebrities of the realest sort. I am so thrilled and proud of you all.

Avatar Image says:

I loved it! I love hearing three of my favorite people to listen to conversing with one of my favorite authors! It’s funny-I just started listening to PotterCast about seven or eight months ago, and my first reaction was that it talked too much about theories that might spoil the seventh book for me, and that John Noe was really weird and not that funny. I listened to another one though out of desparation at work, then another… Pretty soon I was quoting Noe-isms and other PotterCast details to my husband all the time! You three-Melissa, Sue, and John, are so great to so much of your time into Leaky. I think that Jo must appreciate the efforts of fans like you on behalf of all the rest of the fans like us!

For the record, I have no idea why things got crossed out in my post—ignore it!

I wrote Sueton because that´s what he is referred to here in Germany, like Hesiod instead of Hesiodos…. Caligula managed to sell worthless items for a high price at auctions

Anon thanks for siding with me.

Just to clarify why I am so pissed off by Jo: She mutilates foreign names (Haha I hear you say what about Sueton…) All non-Brits are stereotypes: The vain French, The pretty asian, the fierce eastern-european, the powergreedy german The main characters first go out with somebody of another ethnic group and then of course their true love is a Brit Already a problem, though a slight one, had the books only been sold in GB. But they are exported to China, India…. I cannot help to think about them as a new way of colonialism

Avatar Image says:

oh my. this thread has 15 more pages than it did when I last commented. eek! anyway, I forgot to comment again after I FINISHED the show last night, and I just have to say…...amazing. I cannot wait to hear part two. jkr is so smart and funny. I love it! and I love her idea for the book that shall not be named. here’s hoping it doesn’t take ten years!

Avatar Image says:

This is such an absolute treat. I mean I love pottercast already, but it is so cool to hear Jo talk about what John, Melissa, and Sue are asking, especially because they asked everyone what they’d like to hear about prior to the show. Also, every answer she gives makes so much sense, and fits so perfectly! (Much better than all of my speculation.) The only thing better would be me getting to interview her . . .What a dream-come-true for the pottercasters!

Avatar Image says:

“The main characters first go out with somebody of another ethnic group and then of course their true love is a Brit”

Excuse me, but Dean and Cho are British. Do you not know the meaning of multiculturalism? I’m pretty sure the kids in india and China do.

Avatar Image says:

Secunda- seems to me that you’re just looking for problems. If you’re “so pissed off with Jo”, why are you here? The things that you’re pissed off about have been there for years, why get up in arms about them now?

And HP as colonialism? LOL. I guess that’s a compliment to Jo about how much she affects the world!

Anyway. Melissa, I’m glad to hear that the next half of the interview will be out before Christmas, I don’t think I’ll be able to get to a computer on Christmas Day so that’s very good news _ As is the prospect of hearing the outtakes =P

Avatar Image says:

Okay I’m going to have to post after listening to this because it was just so exciting to hear Jo & the Pottercast trio ‘jammin’ so to speak!

thoughts: - Jo is a consumate storyteller. She wove stories around us all even on the pottercast. Was lovely to hear John going ‘Oooohh’ and ‘right, that makes sense’. Him and the rest of us could have been spellbound 7 year olds sitting at JKR’s feet when she spun us another story. - It was so great to hear Sue & John get to speak to JKR direct. I was surprised at how ‘natural’ they sounded. I would have been a tongue tied wreck but Jo does make you feel she is very down to earth and she is very welcoming. - I got emotional when Sue mentioned re: Mrs Longbottom and to hear Jo talk about how touching she was. Its amazing how alive these characters are for all of us hard core fans. I’m not a weepy person at all but to hear ‘the creator’ talk in such an intimate way about one of her briliant book chapters was inspirational. - I loved her discussion of horcruxes and how they work. - I also love that she put out tales of beadle the bard. FRom the amazon reviews they see brilliant little parables with the meaning a little more close to the surface than the HP books due to the brevity of the tales.

I’ll stop posting now as this is getting to long and I want to read what the rest of you have written! Thank you so much Melissa, Sue & John. What a great christmas present from leaky.

Avatar Image says:

The by now famous first phrase “This better not be about House Elves” brought sudden tears in my eyes and a huge grin on my face. Both times I listened this amazing Pottercast. And The Intro. :D This was one of the most emotional thing that I ever listened. And Jo and John are the perfect double act. Amazing. The best Harry Potter year with the best end of year too! Thank you all, Jo, Fiddy, The Trio and the great staff from Leaky, thank you from my heart. The quality, the fun, the answers everything was Perfect.

I like a lot Jo’s idea of The Scottish Book, with fictional and real informations, and I can wait for ever to have it right.

Also, I’d like to hear the “making off” of this podcast from the trio. How did you guys do it?! Great stuff.

Have a nice Christmas all.

JKR as the new Kipling? nnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, don’t see that, unless you object to the effort to show in print that Krum had a slight accent when speaking superb English? The diversity of the student body at Hogwarts appears to match the diversity of the UK today. And in Quidditch we get an image of the European wizards/witches exploring the rest of the world in a rather non-intrusive, almost anthropological manner, reflecting today’s values and not those of previous centuries.

Would be interesting tho to see if we get more info about the International Confederation of Wizards and how it operates, don’t you think? Sort of a wizarding world European Union?

Avatar Image says:

Umm Cho Chang is British, she just happens to come from Asian descent. I suppose you are referrring to her race, not her ethnicity. Yes both Harry and Ginny dated interracially before dating each other. Why is that a problem? If she was against intteracial dating, why would she have her characters date each other in the first place?

As for your bit about colonialism, give me a break. Colonialism is forced upon a country. Harry Potter was not forced into other countries like India. It was bought by Indian companies and published there. If it was so disrespectful of their culture, as you are suggesting, it would have failed miserably in many other countries.

Secunda, you have every right to hate JKR or the HP books. That is your prerogative, but you’re not changing anyones mines by making really poor arguments. To say JKR’s work that went of for auction was worthless is just plain ridiculous. The book made millions for charity. Are you that callous?

Feel free to continue your arguments, just don’t be silly enough to think we’re too dumb to argue back.

Avatar Image says:

When are we going to have a Ginny-character related question? I hope they ask something about Ginny’s role in Deathly Hallows (and the overall series) in the next segment…

Avatar Image says:

Trying to find a positive direction to the colonialism stuff…

ok, remember when there were those HP rip-off books that appeared in the People’s Republic of China …I forget the titles, but stuff like “HP and the seven dragons of death”? Those obviously had the roots in Chinese cultural norms regarding story telling (which lies outside of western norms of copyright and intellectual property, rather recent concepts after all); also obvious, those stories quickly ran afoul of international laws about copyright and intellectual property….

But, why not write some fan fic on wizarding traditions outside of Britain and Europe? At the risk of conjuring images of a real bad 70s US TV show, “a long time ago, in a Shaolin monestery in Hunan province, four monks founded a school to teach the young magic…” “During the thriteenth dynasty, as Ahmose consolidated Upper and Lower Egypt, a dozen priests and priestesses convened at a temple of Isis in Thebes..” Or even, “In Kabal, as competing miliatry expeditions from Russia and British India raced to establish control over Afghanistan, ....” There is room for some inventive and creative ideas, well constructed stories and strong writing will always be welcome

Frankly, if you perceive an issue, Secunda, I’d much prefer to see you address it in a creative, positive manner. And I will applaud you for the effort. My hunch is, so would JKR

Avatar Image says:

Everybody who lives in Britain is British? AHA! Means what? No I really mean ethnic group not race, because I don´t think that cultural inheritance gets lost (or should get lost) or subjugated under one name that in itself is a cultural tradition. And fanfiction… I am talking about what is there, what Jo actually wrote and millions of kids and teenagers read and not what I could write to smooth out mistakes made by the owner of HP-characters.

And to all who say I should leave: With whom but you shall I discuss this? Nobody else is interested in HP.

And I don´t think that Koreans living in Britain name their child with two family names instead a given name and a family name. But correct me if I am wrong there.

Avatar Image says:

ah forgot, mollywobbles. I don´t expect anything of anyone here, just hope a little bit… Colonialism: You don´t need military force to “subdue” another country. Today it is money. “Bought by Indish companies” of course to make money and now before you shout “if nobody buys it they couldn´t make money!” There is this little example of the automobile industry: A manager was once asked if a certain new invention was needed by drivers and his answer was: we make them need it… don´t tell me now (As you won´t because you promised not to argue back) that it is different with books. They are products and usually not needed. A really good book would sell without much PR. But Harry Potter was geared upon people!!

Avatar Image says:

Hey, if Hermione got back to Hogwarts and Ron went to the Auror Department, when the heck did they have time to be together?? After everything they´ve been through!!?? Melissa, you guys asked this on the second part of the show, right??

Avatar Image says:

Anna: There are of course the summer holidays, and possibly Hermione didn’t restart school until the new school year which gives her more time with Ron. But they probably did have a bit of a long distance relationship for that year – quite possibly Harry and Ginny did as well.

Avatar Image says:

I never said I wouldn’t argue back.

“A really good book would sell without much PR. But Harry Potter was geared upon people!!”

The Harry Potter books became popular in the UK early on due to word of mouth. They were brought to the US, and became popular for the same reason. Now, the movies and the media reports clearly helped propel this into an international phenomenon, there is no doubt about that. Sometimes the attention went overboard, I agree with you. I’m not a fan of the theme park that is being built in the US, but that has more to do with capitalism and commercialism than it does colonialism.

Honestly I still don’t buy your colonialism argument. You would have to show that the Harry Potter books are suggesting that British culture is “superior” than other cultures, or that HP is trying to change those cultures. Yes JKR is arguing against prejudice, but that is typically a universal belief. You’d also have to prove that HP has dramatically changed the culture of other countries like television, movies, and music has. Maybe millions of kids run around and pretend they are in hogwarts every year, but I don’t think kids are trying to act “British.”

Again, your comment about the automobile industry is an interesting one. For instance, I don’t need a tiny video screen on my ipod. It’s a total gimmick. Yet you get people used to the idea and they become dependent, just like how American cultural has changed because of cell phones. But when it comes to Harry Potter, how has this massed marketed book negatively impacted cultures around the world?

Avatar Image says:

POTTERCAST 130 IS NOW MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME!

It was a BLAST to listen to. Melissa, Sue, John, and the lady herself all seemed to be having a great time. It was a LOT OF FUN. JKR is a very cool person!!!

I love to hear JKR talk about Neville (my favorite character). I adore Harry, Ron, and Hermione, but I am mad about Neville and always felt a real closeness to him. Neville’s visit to his parents at St. Mungo’s made me sob. It was so touching. I was absolutely thrilled to see the courageous young man he became in DH.

JKR’s explanation of what is required to make a horcrux and consequently why Harry wasn’t one answered a lot of questions for me. She revealed SO MUCH in this interview! When Harry’s scar hurt, it was actually that piece of Voldemort’s soul trying to get out. WOW! And did JKR imply that Mr. Noe will be named in “The Scottish Book”???

BTW, of course Hermione returned to Hogwarts to graduate! My favorite witch’s DNA wouldn’t allow her to do anything else. LOVE IT!

I always enjoy listening to PotterCast, but this one was really special!!!!!

THANKS Leaky!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

WOW!!!!!!!! Yea! I am sooo exited!! Yes!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

Ok, I see I got you wrong about argueing back or not. HP is part of the phenomenon “cultural export” and of course stood it alone I wouldn´t call it colonialism, but- Every thing that gets international sucess-music or literature- is mainly in English language and as we have seen in India they rebuilt Hogwarts to get attention. English culture and american culture infiltrate other countries more than other cultures influence England. I don´t think it´s balanced. Maybe you can proof other wise.

And capitalism: I think it is funny that Jo´s heroine (Jessica Mitford) was a communist and she herself is quite the contrary.

Avatar Image says:

ops I was in a hurry: I believe this 500 copies sold the first week without PR is a myth. There are interviews right from the start, even before this famous first week was over. Why would anybody interview an unknown author of a childrens´book?

Avatar Image says:

THIS IS AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The scottish book….. lol!

Avatar Image says:

At the risk of being a bit off-topic, I must respond to budb’s comment about Jo Rowling not being “the new Kipling”. Please don’t assume that Kipling himself was a caricature racist. Yes, he supported the British Empire, and he shared some of the attitudes of his time, but consider also that two of his most loved characters, Mowgli and Kim, are respectively a young Indian boy and the mixed-race son of a poor Irish soldier and an Indian woman. Also that Kipling’s first language, in which he was fluent as a toddler before he learnt English, was Hindi! So he was a much more complex man than people present him as. And he was a very good writer, which is certainly something he has in common with Jo!

Avatar Image says:

I hope someone among those swooning interviewers had the guts to ask Jo what the DH plotline was all about. What role did the Deathly Hallows play at all? Dumbledore gave the trio three items in his will two of which pointed to the Hallows. However, he had not intention that Harry should use the Hallows against Voldemort. Why give them in the first place? Just to put them off the hunt for the Horcruxes? Just to make up half of the stupid book? Give me a break!

So much hate and silly ignorance coming from Secunda and a very small number of people on here. I can only imagine the type of sad ignorance secunda (she or he) is growing up around, or grew up around. Or maybe it all comes down to some people just being full of Jealousy. Who knows but I wish people like Secunda would reread the books and try to learn some of the deep lessons that are within JKRs truly great books.

Avatar Image says:

Secunda, I will definitely agree that American and British cultures influence other cultures more than other cultures influence US and British cultures. That is true.

As for the sale of the books, I will kindly disagree with you there.

Maya, I agree that Ginny was the biggest disapointment is Deathly Hallows.

Avatar Image says:

Gareth, no problem, we are seriously off topic as it is…

Oh, I do appreciate Kipling more than we will discuss here, tho I prefer AE Houseman’s poetry or even Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days as indicators of later 19th century European opinion

gentle friends, we can disagree, gently, yes?

Bellatricksy: John and Sue fighting is just part of the introduction, believe me, it is not a bad joke.

Please, let’s not resort to ad hominem. If we’re going to debate with Secunda then we should do it in a polite fashion.

This is such a good show (listening to it for the fourth time). Thank you so much to everyone involved for doing this. It is so great. After hearing how good the scottish book is going to be, now I absolutely cannot wait for it to come out. (That was my favorite part of the show, when John asked Jo specifically about the scottish book and she gave this great wonderful fantastic answer that has me now eagerly awaiting it (albeit perhaps for 10 years).

Avatar Image says:

Guys, I am sorry for my earlier idiotic remarks attacking the brilliant author Jo Rowling. I was lashing out because I hadn’t taken my mental illness medication. Please forgive me guys I’ll never do it again. JKR is a genius.

Avatar Image says:

Hollow Hallows: It is explained in the book why Dumbledore didn’t give the hallows directly to Harry, or make it easy for Harry to find out about them, because he knew that Harry would be tempted to use them in the wrong way, and had to have time to think them through. The important thing is really how the hallows are obtained and used by the characters, not that they are some all powerful magical objects.

Avatar Image says:

That was absolutely brilliant! Jo is so funny; she has an incredible sense of humor. Every second of that interview was exciting. I don’t think even one of them had time to take a breath the entire time while recording. They all fit in so well together. I loved how they would take turns messing with one another. And Jo jumped right in with no problem. I just loved it.:) I’m glad they split it up into two parts because now I have something to look forward to for next week…you know since nothing is really going on next week:P Oh, It’s lovely, I keep re-listening to my favorite parts!:)

Avatar Image says:

@ Mollywobbles: Thanks for answering my question! That makes sense. I can calm down now . . .

Avatar Image says:

roonwit.I’m not sure Harry would be temped. Dumbledore would be temped, but like he says, Harry is a beter man, Harry doesn’t want power, so he is not interested in using them. I think Dumbledore just wanted Harry to be able to “solve” it, not just Dumbledroe giving everything done to him.

“And capitalism: I think it is funny that Jo´s heroine (Jessica Mitford) was a communist and she herself is quite the contrary.”

since when do you have to be exactly like your heroes to admire them?

Avatar Image says:

maya, I agree with you that Ginny was a completed wasted character. She was nothing but the love interest, after so much promise in the earlier books.

Avatar Image says:

Id guess the quad just had to deal with not be together much for a year. The guys probably came to see the girls when there was a Hogsmeade weekend. Ginny and Hermione came home for Christmas and Easter breaks. I’m sure they wrote a lot of letters back and forth. Not like they did have things to keep them occupied the girls in the last year of education preparing for Newets. The guys starting their careers , Harry spending time with Teddy. etc

Avatar Image says:

Luna/Maya – I have to agree. In the words of Ollivander (per the film – I cant recall the book) in terms of Ginny I was expecting her to do ‘great things, terrible but great things’ in DH and it just didnt eventuate. She was sidelined as in all the majority of holly wood scripts as the love interest not an intelligent ball breaking woman with a power and mythology all of her own. Perhaps JKR wanted to finish Harry’s story alone and as he has been the central focus of the books she found she just didnt have time to spend more time on Ginny? Bit disappointing. Kind of echoed the epilogue which was a bit sappy and all we know of Ginny is that she was a baby making machine like her mum.

Avatar Image says:

Josh: Harry is tempted. He spends ages thinking about the elder wand, and shows that he can lose his head and use unforgivable curses. He would also be tempted to use the resurrection stone to bring back those he has lost (it is the hallow he chose when the trio was discussing it).

Incidentally, Ginny et al. stealing the sword wasn’t stupid. If it had worked she could have obtained for Harry something Dumbledore wanted him to have. But even attempting to steal it has a positive effect, because it improves the morale of those within the school wanting to oppose Snape’s rule. As Neville explains, if you stand up to the likes of Snape and the Carrows it gives others hope. Keeping the DA going is no small achievement either, given that things were probably much worse than it was under Umbridge.

Avatar Image says:

the REALLY sad thing is that if you remove ginny from the DH plot (and the entire HP series plot itself) it doesn’t affect the story much…yes rowling might need some other vulnerable, innocent girl to get captured and taken into the chamber (during the plot of COS) and yes for the epilogue she could have used just about any ‘girl’ as the ‘future wife’ to bear harry’s offsprings. but apart from that GINNY DOES NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE PLOT AT ALL.!!!

the second odd thing is that both luna and hermione are not only the two most strongest female characters of his age, but they are also the two female characters who knew harry personally (apart from ginny).....and yet both of them got sooooooooo much more than ginny to contribute to the plot…..

why don’t all you potter fans try this experiment: try to remove hermione from the entire HP plot, and see what happens…hermione is as essential to the plot as harry itself is.

the same thing applies to luna as well: try to read the DH plot without her in it….it’s not possible because she has done soooooo much more then ginny itself (who has been there since book one), and this is inspite of the fact that luna is a completely new character who got introduced half-way through “harry potter and the order of the phoenix”.

in the very same interview that i had linked, rowling says that ginny and harry are each others “equals”.....but i cannot think of any relationship that was more unequal than this….as a matter of fact hermione and luna seem to be harry’s equals than ginny itself and that’s saying something!

and yet neither of the girls are harry’s love interests….the MAIN love-interest of the MAIN AND ONE AND ONLY hero of the series (as J.K.Rowling was once quoted as saying that ginny is the “ideal girl” for harry) is the least powerful, least interesting and most useless (not just as a girl) character itself!

how sad is that….i had huge expectations for ginny ever since COS all the way till HBP (and my expectations were only confirmed after the whole “mugglenet/tlc interview” thing that was taken in 2005)....but when DH landed in my lap all the potential that ginny had was just butchered and ripped apart….

i wonder if rowling has any kind of reasonable explanation as to why she suddenly back-tracked on her promise (i.e., the whole ginny weasley being the 7th child and only girl to be born for generations into the weasley family) and i hope to god that rowling answers this in the upcoming interviews….

Avatar Image says:

and by the way “roonwit”, like I said in my previous post: even if Ginevra had succeeded in stealing the sword, it is useless because the GG sword was FAKE!

Avatar Image says:

Actually, maya it might not have been. It is entirely possible that the fake sword was only created to be sent to Gringotts, and Ginny was stealing the real sword. I think people just expected too much from Ginny, as it was pretty clear from the last scenes in HBP that it would just be the trio on the horcrux hunt, but I do think Ginny played an important role in DH, it was just mostly offscreen, doing things like keeping the DA going (which turned out to be key to defending Hogwarts long enough for the trio to get rid of a couple of horcruxes.

Avatar Image says:

If we word this discussion as “We’re disappointed that Ginny did not emerge as important to the plot as Hermoine”, ok, I’ll agree.

But Ginny repeatedly is central to scenes and events. To my mind, the most striking was in DH, at the end of chapter 34: Harry is standing there, waiting for Voldy to kill him, and who is he thinking of? What emotional link to life (not his Mum’s protection now, I’m talking about what happiness makes him want to live)? Those thoughts of Ginny are filled with meaning and depth…at least to a romantic ole mush bucket like me.

As for the rest, I think Roon has it right. Its implied that the sword was dupllicated after the attempt to steal it; keeping the DA going, winning the Quidditch cup in HBP, etc are all mentioned, if “off screen”

Avatar Image says:

Luna contributed nothing to Deathly Hallows, or any of the books for that matter. The only thing she did was escort Harry to the Ravenclaw common room at Ginny’s request. That could have been done by Cho, Michael Corner or any of the sane Ravenclaws.

Hermione did a lot all through seven books, the weirdo and the freak did nothing but provide comic relief and be a Harry fan-boy.

She has Harry’s picture painted on her ceiling? If Ginny had done that we would have had to endure 10 paragraph posts on the fact that all she did was worship Harry.

Ginny was Harry’s family. If you think careers are more important than family, then I understand how you can dismiss Ginny. For those of us who think family and love is the most important thing of all, then Ginny’s importance in the novels is on par with James and Lily and also 2nd generation James, Lily and Albus.

Avatar Image says:

yeah, it says in the show notes: “With special thanks to Rosi for being our Brit voice…”

Avatar Image says:

Too bad I’m on a slow connection, I cannot download. Will there be a transcript to read later on?

Avatar Image says:

I finally have the 5th HP movie. I do have one possibly duh worthy question tho. Who the bloody heck is “Nymphadora”? You know, the chic that came with Moody to rescue Harry. I think she’s kinda cool & would like to know more about her. Thanks 4 the help!

Avatar Image says:

The obvious way to find out about Nymphadora Tonks is to read the books, where she is one of the more major secondary characters. Briefly, she is a recently qualified Auror, metamorphmagus, and daughter of Sirius’s favourite cousin Andromeda.

Avatar Image says:

That was so emotional and amazing. The best thing I have listened to in a long time. I can’t put into words what that was for me, but I bet you all understand

Avatar Image says:

I’m not sure if I commented yet, but this interview was amazing! Thank you so much for this Christmas present! I seriously cried when I first read that Jo was going to be on Pottercast, haha. I never cry, so that shows how much this meant to me.

I’ve now listened to this 4 times today and I LOVE this pottercast!!!! Jo is so lovely to listen to, and I have really enjoyed her interaction with the Pottercast trio. Her back and forth with John is also extremely funny and is something I truly thought that I would NEVER hear. Kudos to you guys!!

Avatar Image says:

I have now received my Christmas present – twice. The first present came last week, when I was reading SS/PS to my 7 year old daughter. We were reading the scene in the great hall just following the sorting, when Dumbledore uttered those infamous words…Nitwit, Blubber, Oddment, and Tweak. My daughter let out the kind of full belly laugh that warms you on a cold day. My second present – to hear Jo speak so eloquently (and yet informally) about her work. What a wonderful treat! Merry Christmas to Melissa, John, Sue…and most importantly – Jo!

Avatar Image says:

sorry, can anyonw enlighten me on who Fiddy is at the beginning of the show?

Avatar Image says:

@anon:

Jo’s assistant.

Avatar Image says:

I really wish someone would ask Jo why Ginny ended up being so unimportant in DH after all the HBP hype. Luna and Dean were far more important in DH than Ginny! maybe they should be considered Harry’s equal & soulmate instead of Ginny. ;)

Avatar Image says:

This was the best interview with JK Rowling ever!

Avatar Image says:

I sincerely hope Jo changes her mind and writes the Scottish Encylopidia in less than 10 years. I would LOVE to read it and I could be dead by then. A decade is a long time.

Love this interview with Jo though.

Thank you Jo,so very much.

Have you looked at the summary provided by Roonwit on Accio Quote? http://www.accio-quote.org/

I started our TG dinner here in the U.S. by saying “I’d lke to say a few words.” “Nitwit. Blubber. Oddment. Tweak. Tuck in.”

Re: Ginny.

She is brilliant and powerful. She teaches herself quizzes. She was possessed by LV but survives. She pulls herself out of “hopeless crush on Harry” to become an EXTREMELY popular girl. She’s hilarious—crashing into the commentator at the Quidditch match was great. She is on a professional quidditch team! She’s smart AND beautiful.

Oh, AWESOME.

My life is made.

This is the first pottercast I’ve ever listened to, and what a way to start.

You all rock!

Melissa: Tell me you asked whether Rose/Scorpius is canon and I’ll die happy. Pleeeeeease tell me you asked. I can’t endure a decade until The Scottish Book is released to possibly find out. PLEASE, God, have asked!

By the way, Leaky and Jo rock for doing this. I laughed… I cried… I did both at the same time. Really, I had tears rolling down my cheeks as I giggled uncontrollably.

For those of you on low bandwidth, if at all possible I reccomend you take a trip to the library and use the library’s high-speed internet access to download the show. You can then save the show on a flash drive and listen to it at home. I know this may not be possible for everyone with low-bandwidth, but it really is better if you listen to it rather than read it. Just a reccomendation, it’s what I did when I had low-bandwidth.

This was AWESOME! I was soooo happy to listen to this – as I am all of the Pottercasts [natch!] – it was wonderful to hear Jo’s insight. Can’t wait for Pt. 2!

Thank you, budb, for the link to the Roonwit summary! That does make it a bit easier to be patient. Glad Yule, all.

May I add to the pleas that a TRANSCRIPT be made available ASAP ? I prefer to read things rather than hear them.
