J.K. Rowling...A Year in the Life Documentary Airs on ITV
J.K. RowlingTonight, the “J.K. Rowling…A Year in the Life” documentary by James Runcie was broadcast in the UK on ITV, and is now being playedon iTV’s web site.
We have early reports on some of the new things contained in the program. TLC reader Andy writes that after Jo completed writing “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” Jo “puts on the page numbers and plays Lily Allen’s “Smile.” Andy writes that new artwork “for Ollivanders at Universal can briefly be seen,” and Jo would “like to be remembered as someone who did “the best she could, with the talent she had.”
Readers will remember that we saw three preview clips from the documentary (clip one, preview clip two, and this trailer) with the media currently making much ado of a question posed in the recent Time magazine interview, and posed in this video regarding a possible eight book, but as we saw, Jo says No. Specifically, she said “I think no, it’s time to stop, it’s time to stop now. It gives me a certain satisfaction to say what I thought happened and to tell other people that, because I would like my version to be the official version still, even though I’ve not written it in a book, because it’s my world.” As we first reported several days ago, there is new information in the documentary about the second generation of students at Hogwarts, found in the form of a handwritten family tree that you can see here in our galleries, or via the office on JKRowling.com. Thanks Andy!

Try this link. It works for me… http://www.tvcatchup.com/watch/15050/

Marcheline – we can’t see it for free in the UK, we have to buy annual TV licenses here in order to watch our own televisions. Which is rubbish, obviously, but I should imagine that’s why some channels are funny about their stuff being splashed all over the net.

I did Lori! I’ve tried the tvcatchup links since forever, refressed the page since the dawn of time too… tried the text version, nothing ever loads.
It’s bleeding frustrating!

hey guys!!! cheer up _ you can download the whole doc in excellent quality her : http://www.emma-watson-fans.net/index.php/2008/01/01/jk-rowling-a-year-in-the-life/
you have to install the toolbar, but I can assure you that it’s good quality. Thanks to the website. cheers ;-)

Just watched it at the tvcatchup link above – had to sign up (free). Was a wonderful documentary – very personal, and very moving. It’s amazing how much she opens up for her fans. Am in US if it makes a difference.

I’m a US citizen & the iTV site won’t let you view the show unless you’re a UK citizen! Nooooo!!!!!!!

Don’t know that anyone will see this post all the way down here … I couldn’t get the iTV link to work in Safari on my Mac, but then I realized one brave sole uploaded the documentary to Google Video, available for viewing and downloading here:

How strange! I noticed that the Belgian broadcast of ‘A Year in the Life of J.K. Rowling’ will be only 35 minutes (in the programme ’’Koppen’‘), but the Dutch broadcast on Tuesday was about 50 minutes (I think, because it started later than planned. And originally it was scheduled for 65 minutes). So, for you Belgians out there who can receive the Dutch ’’Nederland 2’’, I recommend to watch or record the Dutch re-run tomorrow, too (if you haven’t seen it on Tuesday). It’s at 16:05 hrs in the programme ’’Het uur van de wolf’’. (I’m not in tonight, but I think I’ll record the Belgian programme to see what they have done.)

God, the ending was so sad. I got a bit teary. Over all I like how this dude called James did it. Sometimes he did say things we heard tons of times, but I didn’t mind so much. Although I wish we’d know more about the characters then just the family tree. Over all i think this documentary was nothing but a great in depth look at memories for us fans. Like when they showed about the DH release, I just remembered how good it felt to hold Deathly Hallows on midnight. And it makes me so sad (i suffer from post-potter-depression) to see it all over. And mugglecast is gonna end in a couple months too! And the whole fandom just lost its excitement. I know everyone says, “Oh two more movies and a theme park.” They are right but if you think about it, when you walk out of that theatre after watching, imagine how depressing that will be. And the theme park, well that’s cool but not everyone can go to it. And sure there are HP conventions but only some HP fans will experience it. It’s so sad. :( Does anyone feel the same way? Or am I being stupid again? I miss my potter fun.

Frini from Brazil here and I got to watch it over the internet, the link Leaky put up. Oh, and the launch in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil that appears (really fast!) in the documentary was organized by little old me and a couple of friends :) YAY! So proud and happy!
Really good film. Really enjoyed it!

Thanks for the link! I was away when it was on and had tried and failed to find it on ITV’s website.
After seeing the information about the next generation on her website I was disappointed that she didn’t say anything about Draco’s wife, or much about canon at all, really. And I’ve have liked to see some mention of ‘Beedle the Bard’.
But I felt it was an interesting insight into her life. She seems to have come to terms with a few things compared to her pre-OotP interview four years ago. I was particularly impressed by her comments on social justice.
It was pretty funny the way the voiceover talked about Leith as they were driving to her old flat, though – almost as if it were a place anyone would want to leave. But I guess that’s the perspective of an English filmmaker who isn’t used to middle class people living in flats…

Nooo! The iTV and the Google link someone posted are both not working for me. HELP! I want to see it!
