J.K. Rowling...A Year in the Life Documentary Airs on ITV
J.K. RowlingTonight, the “J.K. Rowling…A Year in the Life” documentary by James Runcie was broadcast in the UK on ITV, and is now being playedon iTV’s web site.
We have early reports on some of the new things contained in the program. TLC reader Andy writes that after Jo completed writing “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” Jo “puts on the page numbers and plays Lily Allen’s “Smile.” Andy writes that new artwork “for Ollivanders at Universal can briefly be seen,” and Jo would “like to be remembered as someone who did “the best she could, with the talent she had.”
Readers will remember that we saw three preview clips from the documentary (clip one, preview clip two, and this trailer) with the media currently making much ado of a question posed in the recent Time magazine interview, and posed in this video regarding a possible eight book, but as we saw, Jo says No. Specifically, she said “I think no, it’s time to stop, it’s time to stop now. It gives me a certain satisfaction to say what I thought happened and to tell other people that, because I would like my version to be the official version still, even though I’ve not written it in a book, because it’s my world.” As we first reported several days ago, there is new information in the documentary about the second generation of students at Hogwarts, found in the form of a handwritten family tree that you can see here in our galleries, or via the office on JKRowling.com. Thanks Andy!

Actually, if I was Jo, I would have chosen to be filmed in a cafe she doesn’t use very often, so that she isn’t met with hordes of fans next time she feels like writing.

...once more something she said, while drawing the family tree. Bill and Fleur named their daughter “Victoire”, following the battle at Hogwarts – where they gained “VICTORY over Voldemort! She even talked about the date – and if my memory is correct, she said it was on May 2th….

I wish I would have been able to watch it. I envy everyone who lives in the UK and was able to do so.

I really wish that i could have seen it. WHY CANT THEY PLAY THESE THINGS IN THE US?! Oh well, i am sure that i will hear all the good stuff anyway. I loved the Weasley family tree. To me, it sounds like there is going to be an Ollivanders at the theme park!! Thats sweet, but i already have 5 different wands for my collection, and really have no reason to spend more. It will still be amazing to drink butterbeer, and WALK THROUGH HOGWARTS!!!! THAT WILL BE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jain,
I believe (though I am not sure) that the flat she visited for the 2001 BBC documentary “Harry Potter and Me” was the one (at Gardner’s Crescent) in which she first lived upon her return from Portugal in 1993-1994. The one shown in this new documentary is at South Lorne Place in Leith, where she moved later in 1994. It was in this flat that she finished the manuscript for her first book.

Thanks Fragesteller for this information on the flat Jo visited. I think you are right. The flat seen on the 2001 BBC documentary “Harry Potter and me” seemed smaller in my memory. I think I still have that video tape – I shall go and check it – and let you all know if there are two different flats.

Fragesteller + Mistral – I recall that documentary too. In fact I have that on my hard disk somewhere but I think someone had put that up on youtube anyway. (I’m currently splitting this new one to put on youtube so others can see). I recall we were seeing the flat from outside. It was an American documentary. I’ll try get the link to that. Doesnt anyone find the part where JK reveals she is writing a “POLITICAL FAIRYTAIL” a reveleation ?? Well I do. We even see her writing it!

Aaron, i saw online in harrylatino vut the link was removed after the show ended. it was the show in life.

OK found a link to the OLD documentary which is in 5 parts
first part here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIJaIynFAHI then follow links to other parts. Im busy uploading the new documentary but I’d be interested if the flat is the same ;)

we have known about the political fairy tale for nearly two years.
professor potter, can you torrent the entire download and post a torrent link by chance? that way we dont have to go to youtube every time we want to watch it.

NotTheHBP. I’ll try do that too but a little later. Torrents are not easily accessible by most people here. Regards to the Fairytale, I really didnt know of that but I did know she was writing 2 other stories which she played with when taking a break from Potter. But I remember she said neither may not be her next book. This seems to be an exclusive definite that she is writing a political fairytale as her next book. What I am wondering is if she referring to Beedle The Bard? Becasue nothing was mentioned about that at all in this new doc.

To Fragesteller + Professor Potter – even though it is 1: 30 in the morning for me ;-) I looked through my old video tapes – and got lucky, I still have the documentary “Harry Potter and me”. It says it is a BBC Arts/ CBBC and A&E Co.Production. Its that documentary, where Jo shows us at the end of the film – that now famous yellow envelope, with the last chapter in it :-) ! Returning to the flat – I cannot say 100% that it is another one. From the outside it is a very dark apartment house – and the furniture inside seem much simpler. Jo mentions that she wrote a couple of chapters of “The Philosopher Stone” and some of the precious little notes! The narrator says Jo stayed only half a year in that place. But all things considered – I believe there were two different flats.

thanks professor for taking the time to post the video. its much appriciated by those who live in the us and are getting shafted.

Professor Potter, thanks so much for uploading the doc! Can’t wait to see it! And I too would really appreciate a torrent if you have the time :]

Guys, just uploaded first part. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kljQQ-_CYcY
Rest of the parts should be up within 1 and a half hour I think.

She said “No more Hogwarts novels.” That doesn’t preclude novels set elsewhere in her magical world…

The show is already in the torrents, so download it… I am doing that just right now…

In the 2001 documentary, Jo says “Haven’t been back here since 1994 when I moved out. ” (See http://www.accio-quote.org/articles/2001/1201-bbc-hpandme.htm) She lived in that first flat for about 6 months from late 1993 until 1994. Then she moved to the flat in Leith and lived there until 1997 or 1998. That’s where she finished the first book, made contact with Christopher Little, sold the book to Bloomsbury, and saw the book finally published.
