Tonight, the “J.K. Rowling…A Year in the Life” documentary by James Runcie was broadcast in the UK on ITV, and is now being playedon iTV’s web site.

We have early reports on some of the new things contained in the program. TLC reader Andy writes that after Jo completed writing “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” Jo “puts on the page numbers and plays Lily Allen’s “Smile.” Andy writes that new artwork “for Ollivanders at Universal can briefly be seen,” and Jo would “like to be remembered as someone who did “the best she could, with the talent she had.”

Readers will remember that we saw three preview clips from the documentary (clip one, preview clip two, and this trailer) with the media currently making much ado of a question posed in the recent Time magazine interview, and posed in this video regarding a possible eight book, but as we saw, Jo says No. Specifically, she said “I think no, it’s time to stop, it’s time to stop now. It gives me a certain satisfaction to say what I thought happened and to tell other people that, because I would like my version to be the official version still, even though I’ve not written it in a book, because it’s my world.” As we first reported several days ago, there is new information in the documentary about the second generation of students at Hogwarts, found in the form of a handwritten family tree that you can see here in our galleries, or via the office on JKRowling.com. Thanks Andy!

It took ages to load it on the ITV page and then it stopped after precisely 30 minutes and I had no possibility to see the rest of it. Did this happen to anyone else? Any solution? Any possibility to see the full 60 minutes as it isn’t on youtube any longer, too?

*I have a question if someone could help me with. In the JK a year in the life when she is talking about the family tree JO says the middle son Albus is the one she is concerned about or that she wants to know more about. Does anyone have an idea what that means*???

I’ll give it 10-15 years and Jo will be writing a follow up but the main character will be Albus Severus Potter. In the documentary she said this was the one she was most interested in – and as a certain witch called Amoscotia pointed out :P – take the initials and you get ASP. That kid is definately going into Slytherin!!!

I can wait Jo, you enjoy your time off and writing other books, but the pull of Potter is too great, hehe.

Albus Potter and the Cauldron of Shampoo, it’s got the makings of a classic!!!

She says “Albus Severus, which is the one she is most interested in”. I assume that is because he has the biggest part in the epilogue, which is really the story of Albus’ first trip to Hogwarts, contrasting with Harry’s first trip back in the first book.

No Albus won’t be going into Slytherin, because Slytherin essentially only takes the type of people who would want to be in Slytherin, and Albus doesn’t.

Roonwit (or anyone else),

Do you know whether the original BBC video “Harry Potter and Me” is available on the web? As you know, the U.S. version posted on YouTube deleted a number of interesting scenes. There is a complete BBC version available on a French web site, but the French narration makes it very difficult to hear the original words.

There’s still a way to get to it on the tvcatchup site, and you don’t even need to join. Go to the site and click on FORUM at the top. There’s an article that says Harry Potter fans please read this. And it gives a direct address to where they are still playing it, you can cut and paste it into your browser address. I just watched it there. It was incredible.

This is the most amazing thing. EVER. We could not have asked for a more lovely person to be the author of the books we love so much. And I want her recipe for chocolate cake.

I thought it would just be easier if I put the website address. If you go directly to: www.tvcatchup.com/watch/15050/ it will start playing the documentary. Hope this helps.

I’ve just watched ’’A year in the life…’’, and it’s great. Someone else said it before (sorry, I don’t remember who), much must have been edited out, but I wouldn’t have minded if it had been twice as long. On the other hand, I feel a bit guilty for wanting to pry like this. Jo was so honest and open, but I’m glad that she showed that she didn’t tell what she didn’t want to (like with how much money she owns. Good for you, Jo !) Jo doesn’t show it, but I think it must have been hard for her, to be the centre of this documentary, while she doesn’t really like so much publicity, but she’s done a great job. And if you’re reading this, Jo: Thank you very much for allowing these nosey fans a look into your life. We only have one excuse: we love you and your books. Just remember that.

That was a very good documentary – it gives a great insight into her life without being salacious or gossipy (for which I’m thankful). There have been so many people who have attained financial wealth but forgotten their humble beginnings. It’s incredibly gratifying to see that JK Rowling isn’t one of them. In a political atmosphere where being poor is something to be despised, it’s great to see that Jo doing her part to bring awareness to this issue.

DRAT…. I just went back to YouTube to send my mom the link to the last part of the documentary, and IT’S GONE! Everybody’s gotta get their hands on the money, or we can’t see it. Ron Weasley put it best – “Bloody hell!”

The jerks who took the video clips of the documentary off of YouTube are called the IWC Media Group.

Their contact info can be found HERE: http://www.iwcmedia.co.uk/contact.html

I’ve sent emails to both the Scotland and the London locations, asking why they won’t let us view a television show that was viewed free of charge by the UK. Maybe if a few million of us send them emails, they’ll reconsider – or at least provide us with a URL where we can see the WHOLE THING. (The iTV website link given only shows the first 3/4 of the show – cuts off the last part completely.)

Rally round the Hallows, boys – let’s get our YouTube vids back!!!
