Tonight, the “J.K. Rowling…A Year in the Life” documentary by James Runcie was broadcast in the UK on ITV, and is now being playedon iTV’s web site.
We have early reports on some of the new things contained in the program. TLC reader Andy writes that after Jo completed writing “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” Jo “puts on the page numbers and plays Lily Allen’s “Smile.” Andy writes that new artwork “for Ollivanders at Universal can briefly be seen,” and Jo would “like to be remembered as someone who did “the best she could, with the talent she had.”
Readers will remember that we saw three preview clips from the documentary (clip one, preview clip two, and this trailer) with the media currently making much ado of a question posed in the recent Time magazine interview, and posed in this video regarding a possible eight book, but as we saw, Jo says No. Specifically, she said “I think no, it’s time to stop, it’s time to stop now. It gives me a certain satisfaction to say what I thought happened and to tell other people that, because I would like my version to be the official version still, even though I’ve not written it in a book, because it’s my world.” As we first reported several days ago, there is new information in the documentary about the second generation of students at Hogwarts, found in the form of a handwritten family tree that you can see here in our galleries, or via the office on JKRowling.com. Thanks Andy!
Well those of us in the US will have to wait to see it. They say good things come to those who wait so maybe we will get the extended version.(Fingers crossed). Oh and kumquat HATE is a strong word, so don’t be hatten everyone in the USA for some ignorant people.PEACE?LOVE*
I thought it might air on CBC Newsworld (other Jo documentaries have), but it wont… at least not this week. Ah well. Good things to those who wait indeed :)
I hope someone posts it up in downloadable format. youtube is nice, but it is such a backwards hassle to download youtube videos. it can be done, but boy is it annoying.
I can´t describe how much I would like to se that documentary. What if it never airs in Denmark?
I couldn´t stop laughing when I read that she listened to Lily Allen´s “Smile” -it´s just so normal. But that should not really be a suprise. And it is a good song, not to forget.
It was lovely – she just comes across as a fabulous person- especailly when she talks about how she deals with the fame and her charity work/money and her role as a mother. She is so humble and the clip with her and Neil was lovely to watch! He said when she’s stressed she takes everything on herself! She said her happiest memories are those of her children being born and going to Venice last year with Neil.
There was a lot of stuff we already knew early on.
It was interesting to know why she wanted to keep Harry alive- to come back and rebuild the world into a better place, because that’s much harder to do than destroying. Though she admits it might have been easier to kill him off!!
It was great for her to go back to her old flat. i love that she said I wanted to write, I had nothing to lose, so I wrote. Thank God she did!
i thought it was a very good programme. But i do take issue with ‘her first visit back to her flat.’ My memory isn’t too hot and i don’t have the video, but. Just before the release of the film PS. Jo went back to her old flat then. and she was delighted to see how wonderful the current occupiers had made it. and what a release it was. i’m pretty sure that was a bbc documentary and that was 7 years ago!
Finally home and able to tell you, that this documentary about J.K. Rowling…a day in the life..was fantastic! Some scenes have already been shown Online – for example where Jo visits her old flat. It was very moving to see her reaction – here this everyday flat, (who’s owner seems to be also a Harry Potter fan) – there, Jo who lives now in a beautiful mansion – telling James Runcie, that she sometimes thinks, she will wake up – and everything was only a beautiful dream! Talking about her childhood, how she and her sister did, (lovely woman with long black hair) went to clean the Church – to get some pocket money! Or about her depression when she returned from Portugal. She is such a warm and honest person in my opinion.
Loved of course that bit about the Weasley family tree…I was so impressed how quickly she answered Mr.Runcie’s question about all the characters. She explained why George probably married Angelina, his brother Fred’s ex-girlfriend. I had to smile when she mentioned Percy, saying: an Audrey fits to Percy;) When she got to Harry and Ginny’s kids – I got prick-eared when she said something like: and Albus Severus, about whom I could tell a lot. (is there someone out there who understood precisely what Jo said?) And I guessed correctly, Charlie did not marry – because he loved dragons more ;) Listening to Jo, makes you think that the world of Harry Potter really exist…what an extraordinary woman! Hope that everyone can soon watch this transmisson.
I LOVED this documentary!!! plus i found out the the Jo WRITES in the cafe below my flat – favorit, so awesome…cannot believe i have never seen her there!! I walk past it everyday!!! lolxxxx
Actually, if I was Jo, I would have chosen to be filmed in a cafe she doesn’t use very often, so that she isn’t met with hordes of fans next time she feels like writing.
...once more something she said, while drawing the family tree. Bill and Fleur named their daughter “Victoire”, following the battle at Hogwarts – where they gained “VICTORY over Voldemort! She even talked about the date – and if my memory is correct, she said it was on May 2th….
I really wish that i could have seen it. WHY CANT THEY PLAY THESE THINGS IN THE US?! Oh well, i am sure that i will hear all the good stuff anyway. I loved the Weasley family tree. To me, it sounds like there is going to be an Ollivanders at the theme park!! Thats sweet, but i already have 5 different wands for my collection, and really have no reason to spend more. It will still be amazing to drink butterbeer, and WALK THROUGH HOGWARTS!!!! THAT WILL BE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Give it here!" Harry yelled, but Malfoy had leapt onto his broomstick and taken off. He hadn't been lying, he could fly well. Hovering level with the topmost branches of an oak he called, "Come and get it, Potter!"
It’s actually true that her mother’s death coloured the HP series. She said that in the Meredith Vieira interview, remember?
