Rumors have been floating around the internet today concerning a ‘hacker’ obtaining a digital copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows from a Bloomsbury computer and posting the alleged ending on the web. Reuters is reporting this evening that a Bloomsbury spokesperson ‘declined comment on the hacker’s claims,’ while Kyle Good, a spokesperson for US publishers Scholastic, is warning readers ‘to be skeptical about anything on the Web that claims to have inside information on the book’s plot’ saying:
“There is a whole lot of junk flying around,” she said. “Consider this one more theory.”
It is highly unlikely that any documents containing information as well protected as the seventh Harry Potter book would be on a Bloomsbury computer and as Trend Micro, a computer security company, spokesman David Perry was noted as saying:
“We’ve had hypes like this on the last couple of Harry Potter books… There is a very high level of spurious information in the hacker world.”
Oh geez…
I read some of it a while back by accident, and I’ve been extremely worried that it might be true.. I knew about the horcrux part from a comment on LJ. But if the actual entry on the site states that a character makes them for ‘profit’, that completely doesn’t fit in with the physics of creating one in the HP world. I guess I’m feeling a bit relieved now that something about that article can be disproven. I’ll sleep a bit better tonight. Thanks. _
I am so mad at Mugglenet right now…Leaky is the ONLY site I will be visiting in the next few days. Basically, they posted a newspost with an interview of Dan, Rupert, and Emma, without warning that there was a spoiler—a certain person in the interview talked about the hacking in a lot of detail and revealed something huge. So don’t read the Telegraph interview with the trio, people! There’s a major spoiler in there, and although I doubt it is real…don’t risk it.

I really hope it is a hoax and not the real ending because I read an article on the hacker and his claims that actually listed what spoilers he let out and I was furious! I won’t express my opinion about what he revealed, but I’m really hoping that isn’t the real ending. I want it to be a surprise and shame on these bloggers who are promoting the spoilers he faked/found and spreading them further!
We always need to ignore religious extremism like this, even if it is pseudo-Catholic! Gabriel wants to spoil HP7 for fans because he thinks his religious leader (the Pope) considers Harry Potter is leading our youth astray. A valid opinion, just don’t shove it down my throat. Live and let live. Isn’t that where we’re having most of the world’s problems right now? Back off buddy, and let us enjoy this FICTIONAL denouement, is it really hurting anyone?????
