Rumors have been floating around the internet today concerning a ‘hacker’ obtaining a digital copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows from a Bloomsbury computer and posting the alleged ending on the web. Reuters is reporting this evening that a Bloomsbury spokesperson ‘declined comment on the hacker’s claims,’ while Kyle Good, a spokesperson for US publishers Scholastic, is warning readers ‘to be skeptical about anything on the Web that claims to have inside information on the book’s plot’ saying:
“There is a whole lot of junk flying around,” she said. “Consider this one more theory.”
It is highly unlikely that any documents containing information as well protected as the seventh Harry Potter book would be on a Bloomsbury computer and as Trend Micro, a computer security company, spokesman David Perry was noted as saying:
“We’ve had hypes like this on the last couple of Harry Potter books… There is a very high level of spurious information in the hacker world.”
Ah man! I am Jonesing for a HP fix so bad I’m starting to get jumpy like Quirrell. I’m not sure I can hold out another month. Come on JKR, can’t ya give me just a little taste? You know, to take the edge off!
I’m absolutely sure what it’s the bulls*. (Sorry, but I can’t put another name to this stupid rumour.)
I think this news is from the same source what the rumour about Harry’s heroic death in Book 7 from.
It’s just desinformation.
I just read what the ‘spoilers’ are. They certainly could be true, but from my eyes they aren’t, they look REALLY fake. Don’t believe what the net tells you, wait for the book, like me!
When I was at Phoenix Rising some random guy working at a gas station told me the first 80 pages were online. I told him there’s no way in hell that’s true and quickly left, hoping to God I was right.
I hate when these “hackers” call themselves “hackers.” The original definition of a hacker is someone who modifies and “hacks” technology for themselves to the greatest LEGAL and MORAL extent possible, with a NON-MALICIOUS intent. Someone who illegally breaks into other computers is called a cracker.
Guys, the info he posted is ABSOLUTE CRAP. Trust me, it’s just some poor idiot looking for attention. It was actually funny reading the “spoilers.” If you’re a true Harry Potter reader you will see the stupidity.
I recieved “my copy” of DH months ago from a friend.I’ve only read the first 3 chapters and it was pretty interesting. The dementors in Godrig’s Hollow….but I’ve quit cause I think it’s a hoax. It’s so not J.K.Rowling at all….hope it’s not the real copy of DH cause then the hole HP series are lame.
I will not be checking out any rumors on the internet. I may not go on the internet at all 1 week prior to the book, and I don’t plan to even turn on the TV or radio until after I’m done. Of course I’m planning on finishing by 7/22.
It might be planned. Some days before the release of HBP, the major spoiler “Snape kills Dumbledore” came out: at that time, on her site, JKR wrote to be unhappy about the attempt to ruin the reading: still, at the same time, she didn’t denied completely. As well as Scholastic/Bloomsbury did with this present spoiler. Now, very unlikely the great machine behind theese books can fail to keep such secrets: it sounds like something make it indirectly revealed. Which is good to me, really appreciated. Editors know that us millions of fans cannot wait to read this book. Nobody and nothing can keep us far from this book. Now, considering the origin of HP as a book for kids, it will be really disappointing to leave young HP fans deeply sad and sobbing. They might want all readers prepared to deeply touching losses. This is my feeling. On the other side, I keep the strong hope inside me that spoiler will be revealed to be rubbish only.

OK, well, you all pretty ridiculous. I mean, come on! J.K> Rowling practicially ENDORSED Leaky on not Spoiling. Going on a one-month HIatus of Leaky just because you “may” get spoiled (even though you know its not true becuase Leaky PROMISED they WOULDNT post anything…) is ridicuolus. Just don’t go on comments…there is where you might get spoiled (even though its unlikely).
By saying that you are not trusting Leaky, you’re being ridiculously over-cautious. Just go on Leaky… SOOO unnecessary.
SOME OF YOU ARE ACTUALLY LEAVING THE INTERNET!! Yoiu’re much more suspectiblke watching the news! Just go on the internet, where would you get spoiled there…pop-ups? People aren’t gonna waste money on that.
For Harry Potter News, go to Leaky. Muglenet Too…They won’t do anything. They’re fans just like us and the know how we feel about it. Go on other websites, too. Don’t be so paranoid, nothing’s gonna happen. \
Believe it or not, the world ISNT out to get you. I swear.
If I worked at Bloomsbury or Scholastic and had the access to do it I would definately incorporate a fake version of the book into the database and leave it open for hacking/cracking. I bet any number of fanfic writers would volunteer their work for such a purpose.
Personally, I think Bloomsbury isn’t denying it because then all rumours will get the same treatment. Then if something that is actually real leaks out, Bloomsbury will just do the same thing and we will still be guessing, and we can treat it as a rumour and not ‘OMG could this be it?’
"Was it -- was [Trelawney] making a real prediction?"[br]Dumbledore looked mildly impressed.[br]"Do you know, Harry, I think she might have been," he said thoughtfully. "Who'd have thought it? That brings her total of real predictions up to two. I should
