Rumors have been floating around the internet today concerning a ‘hacker’ obtaining a digital copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows from a Bloomsbury computer and posting the alleged ending on the web. Reuters is reporting this evening that a Bloomsbury spokesperson ‘declined comment on the hacker’s claims,’ while Kyle Good, a spokesperson for US publishers Scholastic, is warning readers ‘to be skeptical about anything on the Web that claims to have inside information on the book’s plot’ saying:
“There is a whole lot of junk flying around,” she said. “Consider this one more theory.”
It is highly unlikely that any documents containing information as well protected as the seventh Harry Potter book would be on a Bloomsbury computer and as Trend Micro, a computer security company, spokesman David Perry was noted as saying:
“We’ve had hypes like this on the last couple of Harry Potter books… There is a very high level of spurious information in the hacker world.”
In all honesty, this might be the biggest book of the decade. Do you think a publishing company would leave something like that on a computer? Not only would it be on a computer not hooked up to the internet, but the file would be encrypted and they would name it something stupid like “Barney Goes To Camp” and it would be password protected with a PIN and everything. The whole nine yards to keep this book under maximum security lock and key.
Also, this Gabriel guy is beginning to sound a lot like Laura Mallory. Gabriel has probably a)Never read the books b)Thinks that the fandom is stupid for reading the books and c)Thinks he can pull a fast one on us because he thinks we are stupid.
I read those spoilers and I can safely say that they are a good read if you want a laugh. And the last bit really pulled it together to make it the lamest excuse for DH that I have ever heard of in my life. His writing resembled that of a first grader and his knowledge of the books was even lower on the scale. Leaky and Mugglenet are so great for not posting spoilers in this time, and we all appreciate it. Take far more than a grain of salt with this spoiler.
I am so not going to read it. I love surprises. Why ruin it for everyone else even if you dont believe it reading it only tells this hacker it was okay

Someone posted a comment on ONTD with the deaths of characters. I’m pretty certain they were just making stuff up, but now there’s this fear inside me that it’s true. Someone calm me down and tell me it’s not true. Though, I’m now not going on LJ anymore until July 22.
well, the point why this stupid hacker wanna do is to draw attention and try to let us down, wanna make us feel boring and or, whatever he said, when we read the book. I just want to say, no one can affect me or do anything to made me feel bored when i read HP, only HP can affect me, affect my emotion.
To stop this kind of stupid behaviour, the only way is to stop reading, as what he said, the so called “ending” of our favourite book. Even when the newspaper posted the news, i didn’t read that in detailed (but another put who will “die” as the caption, couldn’t help reading it) THIS is the most riddiculous thing i have ever read. Don’t read that, and this kind of rubbish will never be found in our trash again.
HOAX! i didnt read it but scrolled to the bottom of the post to read the part about the pope. if any of you went to the link that he posted there, it was a (completely untrue) anti-muslim article. if this guy had any brains, he would know that it was anti-islam (muslim is the follower, islam is the religon.) he is just an ultra-christian who thinks harry potter is going against his beliefs and wants to stop people from reading it. oh and to the author “gabriel” was real cute. the messenger of god coming to tell us that harry potter is evil.
I read the whole thing and majority of it is just talking about why they felt the need to post something that that to spoil our anticipation. However, what they say to be the ending however probable is highly unlikly and I figure any book this anticipated and long awaited and worth this much to the publishing company, cause I mean how many book series make it to seven and still have the readers dying to keep reading, will not be put on the computer accessible to the outside world. If the people at Bloomsbury make a living out of publishing and let something like that happen they would quickly be scolded by the HP fan base. It just doesn’t seem like it could be stolen or hacked into, let alone the ending the person says is just to passe for all of this.
All you people who think information like this wouldn’t be stored on a computer are living in a fantasy land. FAR MORE sensitive information with real world implications (medical records, financial data, credit card numbers and other personal data) is stored on computers by governmental and corporate servers. These entities are constantly having to fight efforts of hackers to access this information but even with their resources, access is sometimes obtained.
What I find particularly annoying about this hoax is that it was reported and passed around by Reuters News Service to lots of other papers throughout the world - without checking on its veracity. The result? This jerk got exactly what he was looking for - lots of publicity for his “ant-Neo-Paganist” campaign. Thanks, Reuters, for being the consummate journalistic professionals you are and for giving this idiot his 3 minutes of fame.
