According to a posting on actress Emma Watson’s website, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has been nominated at a new National Movie Award in the UK in the category of “Best Family Movie.” Emma has also been nominated for her role as Hermione Granger in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” The website says these new awards will be shown on UK channel ITV September 29, and the winners are chosen via a nationwide poll with voting forms to be “available in every cinema outlet throughout the UK, and published in national newspapers, magazines, and online.” We are trying to obtain more information about these new awards and will update when we can. Congratulations to the whole Order of the Phoenix team!
Other congratulations are also in store for Emma Watson, who also received marks that Hermione would no doubt be very happy to obtain with all A grades in her A/S levels. Congratulations Emma!
Oh, it’ll be like the People’s Choice Awards in the US. That’s become pretty tacky recently, with new categories like best smile or stupid things like that. It was more of a fun affair, with the people’s vote versus the Oscars where a lot of people would have voted differently. Hopefully this brit thing won’t be so tacky, and more like how teh People’s choice awards used to be.
Still I agree it’s hard to see how Emma could have been nominated for such a small role.
Sorry, but Emma’s a sub par actress at best…Rupert and Evanna should be getting some accolades because they’re the ones I find to steal the show.
But hey, Emma just got a ton of great scores on her exams. Here’s hoping she quits acting and goes into something she can really excel at because she seems like a very intelligent girl.
Its always nice to see one of the cast getting nominated for something! Hopefully one day, the idiots who decide who gets nominated for an Oscar actually look at the cast.
“The NMA’s are expected to rival the baftas”
- Solo, where on earth are you getting your ‘facts’ from? Show me your sources. I have found literally NO information about this new award on any UK news website, newspaper or anywhere.
The only film awards in the UK of prestige are BAFTAs (British Academy Fim and TV Awards), Evening Standard British Film Awards, BIFA (British Independent Film Awards) and maybe others like Critics Circle, or National Society of Film Critics.
Note that we call them ‘Films’ in the UK, NOT ‘Movies’. That for starters makes me raise my eyebrows about this new award.
Until I see any proper news about this they sound like a gimmick run by cinemas.
This looks like it is just an attempt by ITV to try and steal some of the attention away from the BAFTA’s (broadcast by ITV’s main rival, BBC). I wouldn’t get worked up about it, personaly.
anyway congratulations to Emma for her excellent AS Level results.
(for those confused they’re the halfway stage towards her A Levels, which she’ll take next year, but they also count as qualifications in their own right for people who don’t go further).
Whatta—? How the heck did that girl get an nomination? Of ALL the great actress in this movie EMMA WATSON gets the nomination? This is a bad joke. As is her ‘acting’, I mean she’s just BAD. She’s overly dramatic and her eyebrows are just riddiculous… I simply cannot see why everyone likes her ‘acting’. Yes, she’s beautiful and nice, but it doesn’t equal a good actress(or does it, these days?) She’s just cringe-worthy!
FINALLY I’ve found some information in Sunday Mirror newspaper!
“MOVIE fans will get the chance to vote in a massive new “People’s Oscars” starting on British television later this year. The National Movie Awards will be the populist rival to the more formal Academy Awards and BAFTAs, and will take place at a glitzy ceremony at London’s Royal Festival Hall in September.”
But I can’t still find the actual website to vote :(
I don’t see any bashers. If this is really because Leaky is so good at catching bashers early then congrats to them. But really, it’s incredibly annoying to be reading perfectly legitimate discussion and then see people complaining about “haters” that don’t exist. I’d say those posts are more annoying than any bashing posts, because bashers are easy enough to dismiss and ignore.
One person said, “I don’t know why these people get their kicks out of insulting people they will never get close to in terms of talent or success.”
Having a discussion about the acting talents of an actor is not insulting anyone. It’s what film critics do every day, and how many of them are successful or talented actors?
Just because people have different opinions does not mean they are “ignorant haters.” Please, I know some people are sensitive but there are limits.
Just because I happen to think that Emma needs some improvement on her acting does not mean that I am a “fangirl”. I’m definitely not a fangirl. I’m not in love with Dan Radcliffe or Rupert Grint. Actually I think they both have things that they need to work on as well: Dan still has difficulty with some emotions and he’s not the most natural, and Rupert needs to articulate his words better (he mumbles a lot in OOTP) and we still don’t know if he can act serious difficult emotions since he hasn’t had any opportunity to do so in HP.
That being said, I like Emma as a person; she seems like a nice, intelligent, pretty, and interesting girl, but she does need to work on her acting. I’m not an actor but I can still tell when someone is pushing their performance. You can still see her acting Hermione instead of being Hermione, but I think she has the potential. She’s untrained, and I think with some lessons she could really shine. She needs to work on a couple of things that take away from her performance: she talks too fast (some people I saw OOTP with missed half her lines), she’s too “breathy”, and she does have an eyebrow problem (though she stopped this in OOTP for the most part). She has good screen presence and good access to emotions which will definitely work in her favor. Ballet Shoes should tell us whether or not she’ll be able to make it in the industry, if that is what she wants to do with her life.
Sorry for the long post, but I felt the need to explain how I feel before I am written off as a “fangirl” for simply critiquing her acting and having a different opinion.
I do admire her for how hard she works and all the different things she is able to juggle at once. Congratulations on your A-Levels, that’s very impressive, and very Hermione-like I should say.
Whoa!! This is good! I don’t exactly care who got nominated actually. As long as its something to do with the Harry Potter movie. Its something to be happy with!!
read my posts before you respond please. I gave the link to the place where I got my info from. Just because you are obviously not able to do research on a subject doesn’t mean none of us can. And the people nominated Emma, nuff said.
