Better than the German and Dutch art, at least…..It’s not spectacular but at least it’s simple and to the point, instead of the crazy Photoshop-esque business of some of the other international covers.
US cover remains to be my favorite DH cover.

Unbelievably boring. I am not looking for something overwhelming with stuff (like the UK kids version, which I did actually like). But this is just weak and uninspired. I would agree with a previous comment—it is typical French.
As poor as it is, I would also agree that the German artist could use a few lessons from the French artist.

Veritaserum has the Ukrainian covers and boy, do they look lovely! They look just like the trio, and if you look at the other covers from that country, they also look like Dan but more age appropriate, like they used a younger Dan from the movie images for the fourth book when he was still 14. Kind of hard to explain, as i looked at those earlier today. Anyways, i don’t like the french drawings either. I like that style of painting but not for HP.

i like the french covers, the ootp cover is my desktop…but this one not so much.
personally i like the italian and japanese art best. if there are posters around of it i so want. also the swedish cover of GOF creeps me the hell out, it’s awesome.

This cover is nice, but does not evoke a powerful urge to read the book. It does not make it look very exciting.
But WOW, I just read Felicia’s comment and went to look at the Swedish covers. I am blown away by them! They are incredible! How have I not seen them before! I seriously think they are almost as good as Mary Grandpre and better than the British editions.

Every time I see a cover from another country, I am happier that the US covers were done by Mary Grandpre. Her covers are sublime. This French cover isn’t the worst of the lot, but it lacks the emotion it’s trying to convey. It looks like the illustrations for “Time Warp Trio”

Hmph. Well, it’s pretty boring isn’t it? I know it’s an emotional part of the book, but there are a million other moments in the story that are just as emotional and a lot more interesting.

Well, it’s not really my favorite, but its certainly not as bad as some people are saying, I think. I like it, its just not really that exciting.
I did look at the Swedish ones. They’re pretty cool, but they’re not really my favorites, either. I actually like Mary Granpre’s covers, but that style is one that I like anyway in other art, too.
Some covers that I DON’T like are the Adult versions, BLACH! Definitely not my preference.

okay, if you can’t illustrate for the cover of such an exciting book…you need to find another career. It’s nice knowing that even the artists who suck can still get a job, they just have to draw for the French. But it seems the French actually like it, and that’s who it’s for. Me, I never thought I’d say I prefer having Grandpre, but today is that day. Compared to this “artist” Grandpre is sublime.

It’s quite ok,very symbolic, represents kind of a turning point for Harry in the book. But I’m a little sad when I see all these pubilishing dates for translations,I’m from Serbia and we still don’t know when our translation is going to come out,we have some problems with the pubilshers, but the fans are determined and lead a great battle for the translation. The HP uprising in Serbia!

I like the simplicity of it, though I do prefer the US and Uk covers. Speaking of covers, though, Veritaserum posted the Ukranian cover for Deathly Hallows- it is absolutely stunning! (even though they changed the hair colors a bit, lol) Go check it out!!

SPOILER KIND OF! The only way you would know what the cover is of is if you have already read the 7th book. I think it’s of Harry after he buried our little “FREEE!” dude.

As an Art Major, I find the emotional message being conveyed is quite powerful.
Though, I do find the overall presentation of such to be lacking.
In my opinion, it looks as though it was drawn by an elementary student…
