We have news today regarding a new actress cast in the role of Pansy Parkinson for the upcoming “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” According to A &J Management actress Scarlett Byrne will take on the part of the Slytherin girlfriend of Draco Malfoy for the sixth Harry Potter film. You can see her photo here. This is the same agency that also handles actress Jessie Cave, who is portraying Lavender Brown in Half-Blood Prince.

On a related note, thanks to TLC Reader Katy, we can report Gloucester Cathedral in England will be closed on February 6, 7 and 8, with the latter two days likely to see the bulk of location filming for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. As we have reported previously, a fair number of the cast, including the Trio, are due to take part in filming. Anyone who attends, please send in your photos and reports!

Thanks to Lisette, Katy and all who emailed!

She almost looks too nice a person to be pansy, though I’m sure she’ll do great.

I love the moment in Deathly Hallows where she loses it in the great hall after Voldemort’s threat and shouts “HE’S OVER THERE! SOMEBODY GRAB HIM!” I hope that stays in, though I doubt it will!

@ Cian.

I’ve seen other photos of her and she can look like 100% pure evil.. haha But since it’s not a nice thing to post her Myspace address online you’ll have to look her up yourself :P

Cheers!

Avatar Image says:

Lol, I just saw it. She’ll be good I think.

Avatar Image says:

I wonder if she’ll have a noticeable part or just a silent role…...?

Avatar Image says:

If the script stays faithful to the book, does Pansy actually say/do anything beyond the Hogwarts Express scene? I’m certain lines/scenes can be worked in throughout the filming tho…

Avatar Image says:

I wonder what happened to the girl they had for POA, Genevieve Gaunt? She looked more like how I pictured Pansey.

Avatar Image says:

Huh. Well, she’s got a kind of sneering face so, I’m game! :)

Avatar Image says:

Hmm, at first she didn’t really look like the Pansy I imagined, but I think she’ll do a good job.

Avatar Image says:

I don’t mean to be mean, but did you notice her pointy eye teeth. Really Slytherin! I also like her name, “Scarlett Byrne.” Very Slytherin! Ha!

Avatar Image says:

She looks fine for what will most likely be an incidental role; Pansy’s been all but written out of the preceding five films, so it wouldn’t make a great deal of sense to push her into full prominence at this late stage. It’s nice to have her in the background, though; at least it show’s she there.

Avatar Image says:

hahahaha….she looks like she’s in Slytherin…she’s good for the role of parkison…I think she’ll have few lines to say in the train(at the beginning). And Jessie who plays Lavender already annoys me…and when I see her kissing Rupert….grrrrrr

: ) : ) : )

Avatar Image says:

She must have a silent role because Pansy was pretty much absent in HBP except for when she is on the Hogwarts Express and when she verbally attacks Harry for attacking Draco. And I know the scene on the Hogwarts Express was already shot because of the behind-the-scenes footage I saw when Draco freezes Harry and we also see Harry underneath the invisibility cloak (before special effects.) How come we are just hearing about her?

Avatar Image says:

wow she looks really good for a role as a Slytherin i can totally see her no playing with dracos hair lol ohh im so excited totally random but did they ever say who got cast as romalida?

Avatar Image says:

Nothing against this girl, but what happened to the old Pansy? I thought she was great.

Avatar Image says:

I think shes perfect for the part of Pansy, but do you know what this means maybe they are still keeping some cast from us they said in that statement they were done but what if they still announce that Bill Nighy is going to be Scrimgeour or there is a rumer that greyback is still in on IMDb?

Avatar Image says:

@ Lizzie go to wikipedia – harry potter and the half blood prince film and they have that info on that page for you – I believe her name is Georgina something but it tells you who plays her and the other smaller roles

Avatar Image says:

Guys, there are TWO factors you need to consider: 1) This is a photo agency picture. A headshot, I don’t think people will book someone if they look mean or unpleasant 2) She’s NOT in costume. They do use make-up in HP to make people look like the characters.

I’ll wait to see a picture of her in costume and video of her acting (presuming she’ll have lines).

I like to think that’s why Draco married somebody else instead.

Avatar Image says:

OMG! I think she looks perfect for the role. ;)

Avatar Image says:

@bellasnape, Georgina Leonidas is cast as Katie Bell. Good luck to the new girl but I want to wait until WB confirm shes in. Remember Lily Potter from Snapes worst memory?

Avatar Image says:

she looks sooooo nice to be the cow Pansy…...!!!

Avatar Image says:

she looks pretty much how I imagine her! I liked the other Pansy too, she had that perfect posh accent: ‘does it hurt terribly, Draco?’.

Nimbus xl, I’m hoping we will still get to see the same Lily in DH. She looked great on the one photo I saw (I really didn’t like James Potter though).

Avatar Image says:

ANOTHER pansy parkinson??? This is the third one!

Avatar Image says:

She looks perfect. It you look closely at the picture you see her lips are smiling, but her eyes are not. That fits, to me anyway, how Pansy would look. You can never quite trust her expression… or take it at “face value”.

Avatar Image says:

Hmmm…I really thought Genevieve Gaunt looked perfect for the part, but perhaps she’s just not available or they thought Scarlett Byrne would be better. And if “Scarlett Byrne” is a great name for a Slytherin, “Genevieve Gaunt” is even better, don’t you think? =)

Avatar Image says:

thank you whoever corrected me, I noticed after I went back and checked. You people do take to much for granted by first apperance, I know by now I have mentioned this a thousand times but look how you reacted to Helen McCrory cast as Narcissa- the way some of you sounded was terrrible and completely juvenile, and like you’ve never heard of makeup before. We do need to calm down when we hear of a new cast member cause we tend to explode on them before we even know they are good or not. AND for gods sake dont judge by looks they do wonders with makeup. Besides this chick does look like Pansy, shes got a pug face. ACTING is what counts!

Avatar Image says:

Absolutely perfect! She (although very pretty) definitely has the “pug-like” look so often mentioned in the books.

Avatar Image says:

so the cast is not complete..I still hope to see bill and fleur

Avatar Image says:

Ooh! She looks excellent for the role!! I loved Genevieve Gaunt too, but she looks even more like how I imagined Pansy! What’re you all going on about that she doesn’t look evil enough? o.O Just ‘cause she’s smiling?

Avatar Image says:

She looks a lot like Pansy in this pic, however I’ve seen pictures from her myspace… and let’s just say this girl is VERY, VERY pretty. So we’ll have to see what happens.

Avatar Image says:

she looks just fine for Pansy. You guys lack imagination if you think she isnt able to look evil or snotty enough. She’ll be great. I actually am dissapointed in Lav Lav’s headshot. Ialways pictured her as cutsie, not pretty. There is a difference.

Avatar Image says:

I think the reason they might have decided against Gaunt is due to the fact that well…she looks almost exactly like Emma Watson, except with black hair. If you look at the promo they had for POA that showed her, Draco and some other slytherin (I forget who), you would see what I mean.

Avatar Image says:

That and she’s grown up to be a stunning beauty, though one that looks much older than her age would suggest.

Avatar Image says:

Wow, she looks great for the part! Not that she looks like a pug like Pansy is supposed to – she just has a Pansy-ish look about her …

Avatar Image says:

Ooh, I think she has a great face for Pansy! Good luck to her! :)

Avatar Image says:

Absolutely perfect! She (although very pretty) definitely has the “pug-like” look so often mentioned in the books. Posted by Mountain Violet on February 02, 2008 @ 12:21 PM

exactly my thoughts, although the “pug-like” in the books was ment as saying how ugly the girl was in Harry’s eyes. Well what does an eleven year old know about girls. This picture looks very flattery and yet it’s also very Pansy. But’s a lot of atttention to a character we probably only get to see in a flash. If their hasn’t been a promotional posing picture of Draco, Pansy and the Slythrein gang around, we would probably not even remember what Genevieve Gaunt looked like. It’s not a role for giving you a headstart in an acting career.

Avatar Image says:

Wow. A quick Google search confirms that Genevieve Gaunt did, in fact, grow up to be gorgeous: http://genevieve.here-4-u.net/

It would be nice to see Pansy (whoever is playing her this time round) to show up on screen a few times and have more than one line. Perhaps.

Avatar Image says:

She’s perfect! Judging by the photo, it’s quite easy to make an evil expression with a face like hers, and she can really be described as “pug-faced”. Oh… this sounds as if I’m insulting her… And I don’t mean this, of course. She’s very pretty, actually :)))

Avatar Image says:

Here’s another BETTER picture of Scarlett Byrne with two friends i found on Photobucket!: http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc188/Starry-Night-Skies/l_aba15c4f7c47949456eafc51a3dc4101.jpg

I think she’ll be fantastic..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

I think her looks fit the role nicely. Draco, being the guy he is, would never be caught dead with a girl that wasn’t pretty. Harry’s opinion was colored, no doubt, by his distaste for Slytherins in general.

Avatar Image says:

OMG what happened to the other Pansy.. the one in the third movie. i liked her better.. maybe people wont notice that theres a new person playing as her.

Avatar Image says:

to you people who are thinking optimistically about this casting decision , where the hell were you when they announced Helen was cast as Narcissa, I’m sorry but like I said I was in complete shock about how rude people were to her, – ” Shes too ugly” or shes too old! Well, well mark my words you all will love Helen as Narcissa once you see her and if you dont I have One thing to say- shut up or put up!

( in bittersweet voice) : now remember children if you call someone ugly you just have serious insecurities about yourself! MUHAAAA!

Avatar Image says:

She looks accurate enough. Meh. :/

Avatar Image says:

She’s probably only going to be in that train compartment scene, but I’m just kind of amused by that the fact that she actually kind of resembles a pug, because that’s how pansy is described. i think that’s just cool.

Avatar Image says:

I like her better than the first Pansy- the first Pansy’s features were too delicate for a girl described as pug-faced.

Avatar Image says:

CarolynJ, you’ve got it spot on!

Avatar Image says:

Can they please keep the Uma-Thurman-Pulp-Fiction/Vidal Sassoon haircut Pansy had in the previous movies? Please?

Avatar Image says:

she seems way to pretty to be pansy…i always thought her to be pug faced and kind of snobby looking. plus i hope the movie doesnt make her out to be more important than she is. they are always doing that and it drives me crazy!!!

Avatar Image says:

she kinda looks pretty pansy is supposed to look ugly…......

Avatar Image says:

She doesn’t really look like the Pansy i imagine… but im sure it will be awesome. :-) I really can’t wait.

M-B-W

Avatar Image says:

but.. what happed to genevieve gaunt? she looked sooo much more like how i imagined pansy looks. i don’t think this new girl scarlett byrne is good for the role of pansy… :( i hope she will not cast as pansy!!

Avatar Image says:

I totally agree with you Accio Pint! , Genevieve Gaunt is a better name for a slytherin.. btw, this girl can be good for the role… but, she’s… ugly…. eh, I’m sorry.. I’ve thought that pancy should be ugly, but when I saw her in PoA I changed my picture of Pansy and I was so comfortable by that.. so, I don’t want to think that she’s ugly again..

Avatar Image says:

@ Amy are you a ditz? or are you that low of a person it makes you feel comfortable to call someone ugly- and I bet your one of the snot faced people that called Helen McCrory ugly arn’t you? think about it you dont know these two actresses and they are not by far ugly, neither Helen or Scarlett. before you respond and go ahead I could careless, think about a complete stranger walking up to you and saying you know your just ugly- how would you feel? just think. PPL DONT JUDGE SO MUCH BY LOOKS- you sound stupid!

Avatar Image says:

Again, Gaunt is now too pretty (and too much of an Emma look alike with black hair) to play Pansy. Everyone would think Emma was playing two roles (I heard a few people say that about POA too actually…)

Avatar Image says:

@ BellaSnape: I agree that it’s very unkind for people to call Scarlet Byrne ugly, but the way you’re going about chastising everyone is no better. Calling someone a “ditz”, or saying that people are “snot faced” takes away all your credibility, and quite frankly makes you seem like a raging hypocrite. Your words would carry much more weight if you expressed them in a calm and mature way, without making personal attacks on the people you’re addressing.

Now, back to the topic at hand: I quite like her, based on the limited impression I get from looking at the photo. Pansy, in my imagination, has always looked rather like Cristina Ricci, and I think Ms. Byrne bears a strong resemblance to Ricci. And on a purely shallow note, it appears that she has green eyes, which I love!

Avatar Image says:

@ Saria.. the first name that came to my mind was christina ricci when i saw her picture.. she does resemble her i actually think she suits the pansy character than genevieve gaunt.. genevieve looks too kind to be pansy..

Avatar Image says:

Sorry, maby I shouldn’t have said my opinion about Scarlett Byrne, but that was just what I thought… And @ BellaSnape, I didn’t say Helen McCrory is ugly.. and it doesn.t make me feel comfortable to call someone ugly! I’m not happy that Pansy have to be ugly in HBP. I was so dissapointed when I found out that this girl is going to cast as Pansy.. And you don’t have to insult me just because I don’t like the way Scarlett Byrne looks. I didn’t call you ugly.

Avatar Image says:

I do think she looks remarkably like what Pansy should; basing purely on looks the casting directors have made a great choice. I was okay with having Genevieve Gaunt as Pansy but she is as you guys say maybe too traditionally beautiful for the role, so it seems Scarlett here is a pretty suitable replacement!

Avatar Image says:

Nerhh. She’s too pretty.

What was wrong with the one we had before? She looked like your average school girl to me, which is exactly what Pansy is.

I realise that some fans are really, really horrible, and that if they don’t someone gorgeous then they’ll just all get really critical and say that they’re ugly – but half the point of the books is that it can feel real, and that they’re all a bunch of misfits when it comes down to it.

lol. Sorry, rant over.

Avatar Image says:

Too pretty.

Avatar Image says:

@ Everyone I hurt. I am sorry , your right when saying if I want to get a point across that I shouldnt be cruel in the process of doing so, but some people make me mad when the just out of the blue call someone a name, and yes I know ugly is a description but its as hurtful as namecalling, which I know I just did and Im sorry. I just think like many have said that we should see the movie with Helen McCrory( Narcissa ) and Scarlett ( Pansy) before we judge That was my main issue here is when people are judging them just from apperance rather than giving them a chance, everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves.

Avatar Image says:

BellaSnape, if it makes you feel any better, I think Helen McCrory is lovely, and I defended her over on the IMDb boards until it got too silly. ;)

Now I’m laughing at the fact that a lot of people here are saying Scarlett is “too pretty”. POOR THING! Hee.

When it comes right down to it, I think that most people ARE beautiful in some way, irrespective of height, weight, age, or arrangement of facial features. The casting people know what they’re doing, everyone: it’s their job. With hair, makeup, costuming (and the sad fact that we’ll see her for possibly ten seconds), Miss Byrne will be a good addition to the cast. Welcome, Scarlett!

291 days! \o/

Avatar Image says:

she actually looks pretty good and i’m sure she’ll be great. can’t wait for other casting announcements, although, i wonder, who’s left?

Avatar Image says:

Thank you soo much Mountain Violet! That did make me feel absolutely 100% better and you are absolutely right as well. Yes indeed welcome Scarlett ( and Helen!) with much ambition!

Avatar Image says:

She looks like a cat

Avatar Image says:

As CarolynJ said, Pansy in the books is not necessarily meant to be ugly. It’s just that the books are seen from Harry’s point of view and that’s his opinion because she’s a Slytherin and Malfoy’s girlfriend. But I could never imagine Malfoy with anything other than a glamourous girl. I always imagined her being good looking just like this actress is, pug-faced, in a pretty way. It’s personality, not looks, that make people ugly and I’m sure this actress will make a good job of portraying the right character.

Avatar Image says:

PERFECT!

Avatar Image says:

Why do they keep changing the actresses who play Pansy, I wonder. The last girl was really pretty, I wish they just kept her.

Avatar Image says:

@BellaSnape: No worries, we’ve all been guilty of losing our temper and saying things we wish we hadn’t. It was gracious and gutsy of you to apologize and clarify. :) And I really do agree with the overall point you were making: that it’s unkind to call Scarlet ugly, and that we should give her (and Ms. McCrory, too) a chance to prove herself before we make judgments.

I personally think she’s a very pretty girl, and that she really looks the part. And I’m still loving her eyes.

Avatar Image says:

thanks Saria- that still wasnt nice of me, and I know it, I just want people to consider before the judge. You have a very pretty name. And thanks again to you Mountain Violet- you both are very kind.

Avatar Image says:

Aww, glad I could help. ;)

Pansy IS ugly, of course, in her actions. (Jo said she “loathes” the character.) So if they give her anything to do besides being background fill we will probably see Scarlett’s pretty face twisting into something quite hateful and ugly.

But I agree, it’s unkind, not to mention ridiculous, to look at one picture and DISMISS THE ACTRESS as “Ugly!”

Avatar Image says:

Although her looks is not entirely canon, I prefer the old Pansy Parkinson – Genevieve Gaunt? Want to know whatever happened to her? Check out her fansite… http://www.freewebs.com/gigigaunt/home.html

Avatar Image says:

Wow, that girl who is going to play Lavendar Brown is really, really pretty! Good luck to her! :)

Avatar Image says:

I think she looks really good as the part, but, I must admit, the old Pansy was more as I imangned her . (total HP bookworm here, watch out!) (ditto dumbledores)

Avatar Image says:

She is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too prety to be pansey!!!!

but good luck to her hope she’s good!!

Avatar Image says:

Pansy is described as pug-faced. I think that Scarlett has big eyes, pouty lips, and kind of a flatter noise and round face like a pug. She sort of looks like a pug, but is still really beautiful. So I think she fits really well. She is prettier than I’d imagine Pansy.

Avatar Image says:

@ Mountain Violet

Are u on the HBP board? In that case what’s ur username over there?

Avatar Image says:

She looks like Katie Leung.

Avatar Image says:

I’ve only seen the one pic but I think she looks kind of like Christina Ricci.

What was wrong with the original Pansy? Did she go preggers or something?

I know they’re only switching relatively insignificant characters who have hardly spoken in the previous movies but it’s still kind of weird to have a new Lavender and Pansy after getting used to associating the other actors with them.

Avatar Image says:

neeey! lets vote 4 genevieve or scarlett. who do you think is prettier?

Avatar Image says:

heeey! lets vote 4 genevieve or scarlett. who do you think is prettier?

Avatar Image says:

@ Im not going there again nick – but that is a tad juvenile. Unless your the wicked Queen from Snow White and someone has to be the fairest of them all – then all men and women are beautiful, pretty, cute and handsome in their own way.

Avatar Image says:

When looking at Pansy, in the film, people should think that Draco is with her only because she’s a pureblood. So she´s not supposed to be pretty. There aren´t many pureblood girls in Hogwarts so it’s only logical that there´s not much to choose from. I think JKR used the “pug face” feature not only to describe Harry’s point of view, but also to highlight the blood status issue. Scarlett could be fixed up with make-up to fit the part.

Avatar Image says:

I think she could easily pass for pansy. She has a glint in her eye that spells *itch. I think if this story is true she could potentially be quite good (providing her acting matches her looks suitability).

Avatar Image says:

Does anyone miss alot of the people in their character costumes like we had for OOTP? maybe they are still coming but news and pics of the actual filming have been very slim.

Avatar Image says:

fan of pansy parkinson and draco and the slytherins, pansy talks in this book i like the new pansy she looks pretty i also like the one in the 3rd one to.

can’t wait to see this one

Avatar Image says:

To Cian: She doesn’t look too nice to be almost evil.

But she has that almost innocent look that makes you think she can before you realize she tears your heart out, like Puss-n-boots in “Shrek” and his big eyes type deal!

Avatar Image says:

i think she looks evil. she is prettyer than a cow

Avatar Image says:

I know this sounds werd but, we have the same eye color & hair color! But I thought Pansy had short, black hair? I liked her better in POA, she deffinatly looks like the Pansy I imagined. Does anybody know if Tom Felton will play the older Draco with his wife & Scorpius? I hope they get someone else because I can’t picture Tom with a receding hairline XO.

Avatar Image says:

oh really??we had no idea.

come on Lesley, didn’t you notise that this is JUST a photo of the actress, and probably when she goes on shooting the film her hair will be shorter? I mean…how many times do you people need to be told??? o n t h e s h o o t i n g they use MAKE UP and DRESS the actors properly and they make them look like the characters they are playing.

U N D E R S T A N D?????

Avatar Image says:

at least we know tom felton wont run off with her

Avatar Image says:

She is way too pretty to be pansy! Also she needs blonde or black hair. Not brown. Also she needs big black eyes like a pug. The old pansy in the third movie was great. Get her not this girl!
