There is a short new interview with Dave Legeno, who will be portraying the villainous werewolf Fenrir Greyback in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. UK tabloid The Daily Star has an article where the cage fighter turned actor mentions his role as the loathsome werewolf in the sixth Harry Potter film, and talks briefly about working with actor Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter). In what is described as a “gruesome fight scene,” he says: “Daniel will be taking his own 17 stone monster in this film – me.” The fighter, known as The Legend Killer for his giant-slaying ways, added: “He is a lovely guy but let’s just say he will have his hands full when I get hold of him.” You can see the scan of this article, here courtesy of Snitchseeker.com

Thanks guys!

Avatar Image says:

Avatar Image says:

Avatar Image says:

OMG! i can’t wait! Everything people are spilling about the movie sounds amazing! i think the movie is gonna be dynamite. i am glad this is gonna be in the movie that way the movie won’t be the romantic-comedy people think it will be. Fenrir’s character is creepy and will make the movie more interesting!

Avatar Image says:

Since when is there this epic battle between Harry and Fenrir? I hope they don’t overdo it…

Avatar Image says:

Hehe, sounds good! Hey muggle_born_witch_in_training, I agree completely. This movie sounds really really exciting considering what all’s been coming out, I just can’t wait!! It was one of the best books in the series too, so I’m sure the movie’s going to be amazing!

Avatar Image says:

AAAAAAAAH!

these people are driving me insane!! The more we here the more we ant to know and it keeps on going. Its so addictive!

I cant wait to see this! It sounds so great! Hopefully this guy will live up to Greyback. from what it sounds like, i have no doubt that he will!

Avatar Image says:

There’s a guy in IMDb boards who says his friend has been an extra in HBP and apparently Greyback is terrigying. I don’t know if he’s telling the truth but yeah, I can imagine he really will be quite scary.

Avatar Image says:

please don’t say 249 day’s like that’s very soon. I had no idea I would stil have to wait that long. sigh

Avatar Image says:

Was i the only one who got a weird kind of pedophile vibe from Fenrir when I first read HBP? Because I thought they’d play him that kind of creepy!

Avatar Image says:

Kiwi Mc I: I totally got the pedophile vibe too! I think there’s a part where he describes how much he prefers kids or something and I shuddered.

And OMG, David Legeno is so scary looking! I can’t wait to see how he’ll look in full Fenrir garb.

Avatar Image says:

god everyone is soo right this is soo exciting!! all this is making me even more eager for HBP! :) does anyone know when the teaser trailer is meant to be out? how near the release of the OOTP did they release that teaser trailer?

Avatar Image says:

O H M Y G O S H T H I S I S S O C O O L ! Period. =)

Avatar Image says:

Yeah, I totaly got the creepy pedophile vibe from Greyback as well. Especially after The Malfoy Manor chapter in Deathly Hallows, how he was talking about Hermione… shudders

Avatar Image says:

“please don’t say 249 day’s like that’s very soon. I had no idea I would stil have to wait that long. sigh”—Redbeard

Aww, poor Redbeard. Try this: it’s nine months. Think of it as having a baby…only, y’know, without the morning sickness, stretch marks, back pain, hormonal freakiness, labor and sleep deprivation. :D

Avatar Image says:

Mountain Violet your back and funnier than ever! Yes I agree the suspense of all this news is killing me I want a trailer and some pictures pretty soon please please please. They are torturing us its not fair, I dont ever remember it being this bad with OOTP.

Avatar Image says:

249 days….249 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN’T TAKE IT ANY MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why ….oh why can’t it be sooner?like tomorrow for example

Avatar Image says:

great site and good information!!!!

Avatar Image says:

lol, anyone else just get an image of Grayback in a Mexican wrestling mask?

And i will break his back over my knee- Like so!

Avatar Image says:

Hopefully we’ll start seeing clips pics from HBP soon :D

Avatar Image says:

They have the opportunity to go nastier in the movies than Jo ever described in the books. Greyback should be visually quite frightening. Not sure whether they’re doing Diagon Alley in the movie (they SHOULD. If they recreate it now they can use it again in DH) but they should make Draco seem really scared of him.

Speaking of DH, they need to keep in Hermione being tortured. Perhaps they could end pt. 1 of the movie with her screaming! Either that or Dobbie’s death.

Avatar Image says:

So I’m thinking that the scene with Greyback and Harry will probably be that added scene on Ottery St. Catchpole. We don’t know excatly WHEN it happens. It could be during the full moon.

Avatar Image says:

I just hope this fight with Harry remains in the film. Remember how we all heard and even saw clips of them filming the fight from OotP which was supposed to include a duel with Bella and Sirius. I wonder how David Yates will screw up the action scenes this time. Oh, and don’t forget Quidditch. If the actors are as badly green screened as they were in the OotP flying over London it could turn out terrible. I’m not saying the film will be terrible, I just don’t have faith in Yates tackling the action scenes. Everything else was done pretty well in OotP.

Avatar Image says:

Who says I don’t have morning sickness waiting for the sixth film to come out. No I’m just kidding, I’m not that obsest.

By the way, Amy, since in DH, Hermione is seventeen, so an adult in the wizarding community, Fenrir could legally do anything he want’s with her. (as long as she agrees ofcoarse.)

Avatar Image says:

I think Yates is still learning Will, he didn’t have any experience with films like these. I’m actually not sure it’s his fault anyway. I mean, He didn’t make the special effects, they’ve got a whole department for that. And I kinda liked the fightscenes.

Avatar Image says:

While ‘Harry v/s Fenrir’ wasn’t specified in the book, a confrontation between them at the Astronomy Tower would be legit.

Avatar Image says:

Yeah, lay off Yates. He wasn’t chosen for being a popcorn director a la Spielberg, he was chosen because he knew drama like nobody’s bussiness.

As for splitting it at the Hermione Torture Scene, its too far into the story. Part One would have to cut out too much and Part Two would have to expand more than we would like. It makes moot the whole point of splitting it.

Frankly, the destruction of the locket, which is textually the center of the story and also a nice dramatic scene to end it off on, would be perfect.

Avatar Image says:

Whoah, I’m exicited, he’s actually scarin’ me a little. XD

Avatar Image says:

hes so strong

Avatar Image says:

omg i cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

249 days? Really? sigh I wonder if there’s some way to go to sleep for a few months and wake up in November.

As for Greyback, I agree with those who’ve said they got a nasty paedophile vibe from him. He’s a disturbing character to read about so I’m hoping he’ll be just as disturbing to watch.

Avatar Image says:

ooooooooooo. he’s PERFECT! he’s like, EXACTLY what imagined! omgomg, im so excited!!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

hmm, interesting. Fenrir is one of the coolest characters, but I didn’t really imagine him quite like that. I imagine Fenrir to be a bit older, slightly grey, and slightly fat. hehe. oh well.

Avatar Image says:

ROFLMAO! Look at it this way:

249 IS BETTER THAN 365! Not much, I’ll admit, but it sounds better! Are y’all sure you can trust this ‘Daily Star’ thing? I was under the impression it’s a lot like our ‘Enquirer’, here, in the states…..no matter how you look at it, though, Fenrir is one creepy guy [I use the term “loosely”] LOL

Avatar Image says:

:p sorry about the “double post”!

Avatar Image says:

I agree Greyback is the most terrifying character. Even more so than voldermort who evil indeed but there is at least an element of pity towards voldermont. However, Greyback is pure evil monster and to compare him to peodophiles is actually justified because they are monsters too. I wonder if Jo had Greyback in mind as an analogy to them – may be a question worth asking her! What I cant remember is, did he get his come-uppance? I always wished Lupin wold be the one to destroy him in a duel, wouldnt that have been so fitting. Would it be too ok if the film makers changed the story slightly if Lupin did conquor Greyback? I wish they could! as I dont think it wouldt harm the overall story. Harry facing off Greyback doesnt quite seem rtight but I am sure it will add to the entertainment factor for the big screen which the film makers have done a wonderful job so far.

Avatar Image says:

I don’t think they were making it up to be any epic battle between Harry and Greyback, but there is a part in HPB when Greyback does get a hold of him. Right after Dumbledore dies and Harry runs down into the fight, Greyback tackles him and I think Hermione petrifies him or something. So I doubt it would be in the extra scene, but maybe I’m wrong…

Avatar Image says:

ohhh. cannot wait! I just really hope they have redesigned the werewolves to make them actually look like werewolves since Prisoner of Azkaban. Hated that thing!

Avatar Image says:

Whoa, mama. Fenrir Greyback is foxy.

Avatar Image says:

Ehm, professor Potter, being a pedophile doesn’t make you a monster. Acting as one and actually molesting children, not onlike Fenrir, that’s what makes you a monster.

Hating someone for their sexual oriëntation is like hating someone for being a werewolf. They can’t help it. What makes the difference, is how you act. Just look at Lupin. (hm, werewolfs are a good metafor for pedophiles.)

Avatar Image says:

hey any1 else out there?

Avatar Image says:

Holy six-pack, Batman!

I guess he’s talking about the new Burrow scene.

Avatar Image says:

Doesn’t he sound like he’s doing a commercial for some Cage Fighting match, or is it just me? I know it is all fake bluff and bluster, BUT it is rather unsettling.

Will somebody please remind him that it is just ACTING, he really is not a werewolf and he should not try to hurt poor Daniel!

Avatar Image says:

I hope he knows he’s not a werewolf…

Avatar Image says:

@TJ – I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks Fenrir is one good looking man.

Then again I think Jason Isaacs and Ralph Fiennes are two of the most attractive men (outside of their HP make-up..though Voldemort in his suit in OOTP…)...I think I just have a thing for bad boys,

But GO WB…another gorgeous man in the film…I’m not going to be a downer about it. It’s just giving this chick something else to look forward to :P

Avatar Image says:

lol Hmm.. nice bod. But does anyone else think he has almost no belly button? It’s a really weird belly button…

And Fenrir doesn’t really get Harry at all in the books but he is gross; I wonder if they’re amping up the role to make him even more disgusting. Or have him go after Ginny or something. In fact, maybe they’ll have Ginny get her face munched off considering they’ve developed her character SO well that the audience would be horrified(sarcasm) Or maybe they’ll actually have Bill. I’m wondering if Bill will ever be mentioned – especially considering they’re of course considering the fans by making the seventh book into two movies (rolls eyes)!

But besides my terrible sarcasm, he definitely looks menacing. :)

Avatar Image says:

Oh my goodness that guy IS Greyback! Just like I picture him! Wow… I can’t wait for this movie, Ootp was my favorite but this one’s sounding really special!

And yeah, I’ll think of it as waiting for a baby, in fact, my brother’s wife is pregnant and she’s giving birth around the same time of HBP’s release, so I’ll get a movie and a baby! (a nephew/niece, I mean)

Avatar Image says:

All I have to say that BODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avatar Image says:

Eva, there is a short battle at the end of the staircase when fenrir is on top of harry and harry smells the blood/sweat from his face/mouth. Then harry uses a spell and he pushes him off him. It’s not a huge fight, but it’s a little part that I really hoped they would keep in.

Regarding them only mentioning amycus carrow, do you think that his sister won’t be in it in the astronomy tower?

Avatar Image says:

@Doobah: I have a feeling you might be on the right track. After the locket has been destoyed, back in the tent, Ron will be able to fill H&H in on what has been going on in the wizarding world. The movie would end with Hermione’s “I still haven’t ruled it [hexing Ron with tweedie-birds]] out” followed by the words “To be concluded”... and the audience shall go wild :)

Avatar Image says:

RE Grayback…I don’t think it’s a pedophile thing, as in a “sexual” attraction, so much as a preference for lamb over mutton… no less disturbing, though.

Avatar Image says:

rstadolnik has it right. Remember what Greyback said to Hermione in DH… it was something like, “You look soft.” So it’s not a pedophilia thing. It’s more that kids generally have softer, more tender flesh, due to their youth. And so Greyback prefers kids to adults, because he considers them tender meat.

Ugh, I just grossed myself out.

Avatar Image says:

cant wait for the movie!!! arghhh! it hurts!

Avatar Image says:

Hermione turned eighteen in DH, actually.

Avatar Image says:

OR he could be talking about the scene which they added, you know, the pacing scene, if that leaked script online is legit, because I read it and Greyback’s in it.

Avatar Image says:

Andrew your cynical comment is well noted I am referring to the acting technique known as “Method Acting” when is the goal of the actor to “become” and “loose oneself in” the character. My caution was hoping the that he would not get “so into the role” that he inadvertanly caused harm. Legeno’s bombastic wording just raised a cautionary flag, for me, and I was just voicing my concern. I personnally know of and have seen quite a few accidents on set, that can attributed to an actor’s inexperience and getting too far “into it”. (Even some VERY experienced and respected actors are guilty of this) I am not saying that Legeno is an imprudent person in this respect but since he does not have an extensive resume…which equates to limited experience … I think that my concern is valid. IMO

Avatar Image says:

Please, leaky, can we have a counter???

Avatar Image says:

Andrew your flippant comment is well noted.

However, I refer to the acting technique known as “Method Acting” utilized by almost all actors. The goal of which is to “get totally into a role” by utilizing ones personal experiences. Since Legeno lists on his resume “Cage fighter, bouncer, debt collector and wrestler” ... my concern was that in getting into the character of Greyback he might inadvertantly cause harm by unharnessing some actions from his previous experiences. Many actors use this technique quite successfully, they can tap into their experiences without relinquishing control. But, even the most experienced and respected actors have been known to “lose touch with reality” when getting into character occasionally. I have personnally seen and have heard of many “accidents” (major and minor) on set that are the result of lack of control on a method actor’s part.

So, given Legeno’s bombastic words and his inexperience as an actor, I believe my concern is valid. IMHO. I KNOW that all the production people are and will be very careful in protecting everyone from harm … But accidents do happen.

Dave Legeno does look perfect for the role. We will see if he has the acting chops for the role. (Seriously, no slight or pun intended) I hope that his menacing stare translates on screen.

Avatar Image says:

Sorry, I don’t know how or why the quoted comment from Andrew was deleted.

Andrew said: I hope he knows he’s not a werewolf…

As for the post being in italics … I have no idea how that happened.

Avatar Image says:

as people have mentioned in previous posts – there is an encounter between Harry and Fenrir when Harry is chasing after Snape after the Lightning Tower scene (in Flight of the Prince). Fenrir jumps on Harry and Harry manages to do the petrificus totalus (or whatever) curse on him. I wouldn’t be surprised if they extended it. That whole chapter is scene after scene of Harry throwing curses and death eaters and Malfoy throwing them at him, with Snape blocking them and throwing them off – except to knock Harry back a few times. It’s an exciting chapter – I hope they do it right.

Avatar Image says:

What a large and really frightening looking guy. Just add some mangy hair and pointy teeth and he will be perfect for Greyback. Just don’t let our Dan get hurt accidentally.

And as for the pediphile thing, OH Defintely! Even DD on the Astronomy Tower wants him out of the castle. And to think he hurt Lupin. At the Malfoy Manshion, his drooling over Hermione is just sickening.

Avatar Image says:

Hey guys. I just wanted to point out that I do not see any correlation between Greyback and paedophilia. Yes. Greyback does seem to have a preference for children (cf scenes in Hogwarts). However, this seems to be an act of pure evil rather than a sexual preference. As far as I interpret it, he preferably tries to pass his actual state of being a Werewolf on to children in order to establish some kind of “Werewolf-Society”(IIRC). And PLEASE do not jump to conclusions about Paedophilia and paedophiles without being informed. I do not want to defend peadophiles, I think it is a terrible crime and adults taking advantage of their superior position compared to children should be punished. HOWEVER, those people suffer from a serious illness (on whether that is a fact or dependant on the point of view I do not want to elaborate) and noone should judge hastily. Furthermore, Greyback would not be likely to be a paedophile even if he felt sexually attracted by Hermione (for instance). For the sake of lazyness ( :-) ) I joust quote wikipedia: “paedophilia (Commonwealth usage) is the primary or exclusive sexual attraction of adults to prepubescent children. A person with this attraction is called a pedophile or paedophile.[1]” ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paedophilia ) Given the fact that Hermione is about 17-18 years old, I doubt wheter one would call her prepubescent.

Again: I do NOT want to defend anyone or any sexual preference. I do not want to take a particular position. I just think that pronouncing that character a paedophile is not justified.

No offence intended. AD

Avatar Image says:

I’d like to say something about the pedophile thing. Sexual assault (i.e. molestation and rape) have nothing to do with sexual orientation. It is about power and pedophiles (in the way the word is commonly thought of, as in, those who do touch children) ARE monsters, and a pedophile may be of any sexual orientation.

Now, as to Greyback himself, I think that he may be an analogy for child molesters. It is said that he especially tries to bite children (i.e. he ATTACKS them) and DD even says he can’t believe Draco brought him to the school where his friends were and there’s his treatment of Hermione at Malfoy Manor.

Avatar Image says:

To clarify, I don’t actually think Greyback was a pedophile and I don’t think he was attracted to anyone that we know of. I just think this is a metaphor as Voldemort is a metaphor for Hitler (well, not really a metaphor, more like a representative figure, he was really a metaphor for intolerance.)

Avatar Image says:

Just to make quell some worries – these fight scenes are ridiculously choreographed. I’ve worked on film fights and they are choreographed down to the second. Yes, accidents happen, but the production crews take extreme caution to make it so that the probability of an accident happening is very minimum. A fight choreographer is there on set while it is being filmed and they rehearse the fights for a very long time (the more intense the fight, the longer the rehearsal period) – for example in Star Wars Episode 3 when Hayden Christiansen and Ewan McGregor had their final battle with each other they rehearsed for weeks first with padding all around them and other people doing it extremely slowly before they moved on to doing it in front of the blue screen where they would perform in the same manner as on camera. Each fight sequence is done with extreme practice and skill to make sure no harm is done to anyone involved.

Orson Wells once stated that nothing shall die for the art of film (and he meant nothing, down to a fly) and that goes for injury. Things happen (bumps and scratches) but just because this guy was a professional fighter doesn’t mean he is going to go out of control and accidentally hurt someone. It just means he’ll get the choreography quicker.

Avatar Image says:

He looks terrifying! He’s perfect! Fenrir always gave me the creeps!

Avatar Image says:

That sounds terrifying!! I’m sure he was just joking. I hope… ;p

Avatar Image says:

Hi guys, first timer here. With no Bill Weasley in this film, do you think another character will be bitten by Greyback? I think it would be Neville, seeing has he has taken on many of Dobby’s roles in the films?

Avatar Image says:

matner77 i think that you’re right about Neville filling in for Bill or they might not do it at all. I hope they redo how the werewolves look like they did with the dementors.
