Avatar Image says:

Avatar Image says:

Avatar Image says:

guess i wasn’t the first one

Avatar Image says:

FUN! I didn’t know Ollivander’s sold robes, he must be branching out. :)

Creature Caption: Rodents Rally Round Their Fallen Comrade to Proclaim: Scabbers was framed!

Avatar Image says:

Wow I just read it and it’s hilarious! Particularly the MORON badge lol. Congratulations to all the leaky staff who contributed =)

Avatar Image says:

A copy of HarryLatino’s Quisquilloso (‘The Quibbler’), but definetly worse.

Congratshahaha!

Avatar Image says:

This is wonderful! But I want a material copy, one I can get in the mail and keep on my shelf as a keepsake. Is there anyway to make this into a real magazine? I would subscribe! Where do I sign up?

Avatar Image says:

It was hilarious!!!! ” How to show proper respect to your wand” hahahaha lol = ] It’s my mom’s birthday today and it’s Friday the 13th!!! grins wickedly

Avatar Image says:

Severitis,

We’ve added a zip file on the info page of The Quibbler for anyone who might prefer a hard copy. You can find that here. http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/fun/quibbler

Thanks for the idea!

Doris

I’m glad you guys are enjoying it – it was a lot of fun to do.

I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised someone else had the idea first of doing one of these – but in my defence I didn’t know that it was done before.

This is my gift to HP fandom: something to laugh about and enjoy again after the stress of recent events.

Which brings me on to the idea of a printed edition: I’d rather not. We can offer the Quibbler for free in this format and if it gets printed people have to pay. That’s somewhere we just dont want to go.

Avatar Image says:

It’s great fun and I love you all, but how do you expect me to navigate this flash technology at work without being observed by those who think I’m actually working?

Avatar Image says:

i really had fun reading it!!!! i hope there’s more to come!!!! btw isnt borgin and burkes at knockturn alley….?

Avatar Image says:

Aberforth’s Page 3 Girl rocks my world.

Avatar Image says:

Indeed Borgin and Burkes IS in Knockturn alley. We shall be withholding payment from the advertising agency as a result. XD

Well spotted :)

It may not be staetd enough in the Quibbler, but public submissions are welcome: just send an owl to the email address supplied.

Avatar Image says:

I love the LOTR reference:

“second cousin, twice removed, on his mother’s side”

Avatar Image says:

Hahahahahahaaa this is soooooo cool!!! “Lily Potter spotted on The Knight Bus”? rofl? Hope I get time to read it soon. :D Really really great stuff!!!!

Avatar Image says:

I downloaded the PDF zip file, but the first page is messed up. Anybody else have this problem or just me?

I think this is a great idea and thank you very much for the fun read Leaky!

Avatar Image says:

MAN that’s frustrating, it’s either too small, or too big and I can’t figure out how to see it in a right size.

Avatar Image says:

wow, thats great! Going to have fun reading this over the weekend….great idea, guys and enormous thanks from us.

Avatar Image says:

My god, there is a page 3 girl in it too! Shudder!

Avatar Image says:

Oh this is so cool. You guys ROCK! xxx

Avatar Image says:

But I don’t mind paying for it! It would be cool to get it in the mail, printed on parchment paper or as a newspaper. That would be soooo cool. Either way, I greatly enjoyed it. Good work guys!

Hey, I wouldn’t mind posting an ad in the next edition for Wizard Wood Wands (paid of course), with a corky slogan like, “Has your wand gone wobbly? A Wizard Wood Wand is the wand you want!”

Okay so that stinks but I’m sure you guys could come up with something better.

Who do I contact? I’ll ask Bethany about it.

Avatar Image says:

love the quibler, you have yo laugh out loud! love luna’s love advice! and that article about John…”Noe” was very interesting :L

Avatar Image says:

This is so great!!! It’s hilrious!!

Great Job Leaky!

Avatar Image says:

Very good! I’ve only gone through a few pages, due to my own time constraints, but hopefully I’ll read more soon? Was this announced before?

RIP Tim Russert

Avatar Image says:

Lol, I loved the Jo reference: “My name is Lily Potter…”

Avatar Image says:

Woo-hoo! Great idea. Goes off to read.

Avatar Image says:

ROFL!!! I can’t believe you guys managed to get Elvendork in there so fast! And I love the sweet Aberforth’s girl!!! :D

Avatar Image says:

Oh, WendyE – click on the thingy that makes it bigger, then drag your curser around on the page to get to the point in the page you want to read.

Avatar Image says:

the page is wayy to small, how do I zoom?!?

Avatar Image says:

Page 1 of the PDF is messed up. Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

Avatar Image says:

What a great idea! Thanks for all the hard work on this; I know I will enjoy it. Going to read right now!

Avatar Image says:

Real fun! Thanks for a great laugh, and I can’t wait for another edition!

Avatar Image says:

Love it great work staff. and big thanks to Rudius. You guys rock. Looking forward to future issues :D

Avatar Image says:

Bloody brilliant. I loved it!

Avatar Image says:

I made the front page!? Youre going to get my in trouble!!

lolol.. seriously though, funny stuff :D nice work guys!

Avatar Image says:

OK I’m terribly sorry about the First page of the PDF being messed up – I fixed that so you can download it again. Also while I was at it I included a font I discovered was not embedded in the document which you will need to install on your PC if you want to see the document exactly like it is on the web. (unfortunately I only have the windows version of the font)

I also increased the compression rate on the .zip file so as to make the download a little smaller so don’t get a fright if you notice the difference in file size

For people struggling with too small fonts or too big fonts, I suggest taking a look at the explanation on how to look at the document, or you could download the new and improved PDF. :)

Avatar Image says:

Amazing stuff ! One of the best Harry Potter fan websites I’ve visited. The Quibbler is just simply ‘da best’.

Avatar Image says:

That was hilarious…. from John Noe/John Dawlish to Dung’s quick quill quotes (?).. everything is just… cool!!..

Keep up the good work!!

Avatar Image says:

i can’t wait! this is gonna be so much fun

Avatar Image says:

Hear! Hear!

I was quickly inspired to reply to the article on the missing Professor Lockhart with a recent sighting in a muggle ‘Movie’. (So clever these muggles! Moving pictures without magic! How do they do it?)

Best luck in finding the dotty old rogue.

OMT

Avatar Image says:

Brilliant idea Leaky Staff!! Reading now!!

Avatar Image says:

LOL!! The article about Lockhart! And you people actually managed Elvendork too! And that Page 3 girl, she’s way better than most I’ve seen on our papers! ;-) And I can’t wait for Dung’s “Kulture and Klass” articles!! Oh, you guys are just too much! Great idea leaky, I loved it!!!

Avatar Image says:

Love Mrs Murray’s letter

Avatar Image says:

There should definitely be printed copies – that would be hilarious! I always imagined the Quibbler would have a cover page though, like Time Magazine etc.

Avatar Image says:

Oh, just read the entire magazine! I saw Dung’s Kulture and Klass is right here! Oh,and loved that letter from Edinburgh! ;-)

Avatar Image says:

i was wondering why leaky hasn’t posted anything about the new HBP pics of harry and ginny on here yet it was posted on mugglenet the other day.?

Avatar Image says:

It is sooo funny great job guys!!

Avatar Image says:

Avatar Image says:

You need to send a copy to Jo, with Luna’s advice column highlighted.

Avatar Image says:

Avatar Image says:

this was so cute! and interesting to read. i loved it! thanks guys

Avatar Image says:

I just wanted to say I loved this edition of the Quibbler, and hope to see another soon… it was very informative, and well designed.

Avatar Image says:

Very entertaining! While I understand and appreciate all the work you put into it, could I make some suggestions?

Maybe consider a more unorthodox page layout similar to the prop Quibbler (and Daily Prophet) in OoTP? I know it would be harder to do and WAY harder to read, but it would be more fun, IMO.

Why don’t the pictures and ads move?

Shouldn’t the flash controls offer a “Flip upside down” option?

I think all of these things could be done. but would probably require the use of very skilled elves and/or tons of galleons. And for a labor of love it’s probably asking too much… But cheers anyway! :)

Avatar Image says:

I am glad for your suggestions, and we’ll bear them in mind.

We shied away from a less conventional layout because of readability, and the flip upside down option did come up in planning, but the off the shelf flash tool we use didn’t come with that option, and as it doesn’t come with source code, we couldn’t modify it either. (I for one would rather have the full view be obtained using the 1:1 button and the magnifying glass take you to the zoomed view, not the way it is now)

We do want to vary column layout and things like that in the next issue (yes there will be more) but for the first issue I thought it prudent to keep things relatively simple so that we don’t alienate prospective readers with an overly complicated format.

I changed the file format of the pages right at the last minute (they were originally going to be .jpeg – but reading them was nigh on impossible and fortunately I discovered I was able to export the whole thing to a flash document format which had the added benefit of being a smaller file to download. This meant that things like moving images became theoretically possible, but so late in the game that we didn’t have time to do anything that would be of suitable quality.

So long story short – some of the things you suggest are in the works for next time. :)

Avatar Image says:

OK another note:

My own Quibbler staff is looking at me accusingly about the fact that John Dawlish was in Ollivander’s for new robes.

No it wasn’t a mistake on our part – The subtle joke was that the poor guy is so punch-drunk from Deathly Hallows that he cant even tell a wand shop from a robe shop. Also that’s why he didn’t recognise Xeno.

Avatar Image says:

AWESOME! I had no idea bou this…. How often will it be published?

Avatar Image says:

Thanks, Hagrid! Looking forward to it!

Avatar Image says:

Took me a few moments to get used to the flash technology – but when I did it was a lot of fun. Love the page 3 girl – such lovely curls!! And the cute owlets – how darling was that! The rats were great – I’m sure you’ll get some great captions for them – you ought to post the non-winning entries just so we can laugh even more!

Thanks guys, it was a great wake-up this morning.

Avatar Image says:

Elvendork. Can’t get enough of it! Very well done. Can’t wait till the next issue!

Avatar Image says:

Hi I was wondering how someone might get involved with writing in the Quibbler.Does any one know this is a cool idea and I was interested in participating…

Avatar Image says:

This is great! I love this.

A suggestion: There are only two sizes that I can read it at (from what I can see… if you can zoom in and out to different sizes, tell me), too small, and too big. If there were any way to fix that, it would make it much more easier to read. Great idea/site!:)

Avatar Image says:

You can indeed submit articles, letters to the Editor or Luna, LolKneazles and even cartoons for possible inclusion in the next issue of the Quibbler!

email your submissions to:

[email protected]

We will be putting up an article in the Fun / Quibbler section detailing submission guidelines later today

Avatar Image says:

I found it to be fairly entertaining. I have a couple of suggestions, as follows:

-Designate someone as an editor. I noticed a lot of typos and odd sentences (there may have been fewer than I remember, I’ve had to read it piece-meal throughout the day)

- Try to avoid obvious tie-ins (like name dropping where it doesn’t necessarily make sense). I realize the target audience probably needs some of them, but it gets old fast. My favorite part was the “robes in a wand shop” as the humor was more subtle (If you don’t know what I mean about the obvious tie-ins, try reading any Sherlock Holmes book written by someone other than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle).

I would actually be interested in submitting articles for the publication, as I enjoy fake news reporting quite a bit.
