Congratulations are in order today for actress Emma Watson who won a Constellation Award as “Best Female Performance in a 2007 Science Fiction Film, TV Movie, or Mini-Series,” for her performance as Hermione Granger in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” The Constellation Awards, which are said to honor “the actors and producers behind Canada’s favourite Science Fiction TV series and movies,” were presented over the weekend in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with a “Best Performance Male” award also going to actor David Tennant (Barty Crouch Jr. in GoF) for his starring role in the hit TV series, Doctor Who. Well done Emma and David!

First: A Question:

Are the HP films considered “Science Fiction Film”, if so I’d like to know exactly what’s so Scientific about them!!!!!

Second: An Opinion:

Well, sorry to her lovers, but the only award I see her fitted for, is an award for the most active pair of eyebrows, or the most cringe-worthy overacting of the season!

Avatar Image says:

LOL! Right on mega! Exactly how I feel. Her eyebrows … wow. :P

Okay, Emma’s a great actress. She was really good in Ballet Shoes. I don’t know what’s up with Harry Potter though. She’s weird in them … just not all that great. Hopefully she picks it up in HBP. I’m really looking forward to seeing how she acts. I know she can, but I just haven’t seen it in the HP movies. IMO, she doesn’t deserve this award. But maybe there were no other actresses good enough who were in “Science Fiction Films”...

Avatar Image says:

Ha! I wondered how long it would be before the “she can’t act” Emma-haters weighed in. Right on schedule! Reminds me of that great abortion clinic scene in Juno where the receptionist says “Welcome to Women Now where women are trusted friends, please put your hands where I can see them and surrender any bombs.” LOL

Avatar Image says:

She is the one of all HP actors and actresses who less deserves an award…

And to think everyone who doesn’t think she deserves awards is a hater is silly. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. Many of us think she plays a character that is nothinng like Hermione, and you can not blame other people for that, because it’s the acting, it’s not the scripts or direction.

Anyway, who cares, I just want a trailer soon.

Avatar Image says:

The reason people don’t like Emma’s eyebrow thing is that we are so used to seeing actors who don’t use any facial expression whatsoever. Watch your friends when they’re talking to you. You’ll see plenty of eyebrow action. It’s reality. Get over it.

Well done to Emma and to David Tennant, the best Doctor since the Jon Pertree and Tom Baker days.

I’d love if there was like… a huge and reasonable award within the fandom to pick random favorite stuff. From actors and book to podcast, blog, wrock band, book/movie quote etc. I hope someone from Leaky reads this ahhaa.

And hee. People can be way to radical and serious when it comes to Emma :-S. I hope it’s just the teenagers tending to do the usual overreacting. Cause come on, guys. There’s enough room in a brain to think a girl can’t act but respect her as a human being! Having a negative opinion isn’t being hateful.

Most aren’t attacking Emma personally. People are gonna post different comments about the subject of every post. Some will say they find her performance believable (if they do, hell, good for them!) and others will say they get annoyed and distracted by it, which doesn’t make anyone a professional Emma zomg1!! or a bitter/jealous female.

Re: science fiction. It’s standard in movie awards to put “science fiction” movies and “fantasy” films together in the same category, and HP fits in the latter.

Shut up. You make yourself look like an a$$. Which you probably are. You probably think that everyone who thinks that Emma’s acting is “bad” is an Emma-hater. But newsflash! They’re not! I`m not! She’s a great actress, I like her, but I think she should act better as Hermione. (Have you seen Ballet Shoes? She was great in there. She should be that good in HP.)

It`s so annoying how people are annoyed with US discussing about Emma’s acting. Just don’t read our damn comments then! You guys think you know everything all the time just because you don’t have an opinion about someone’s acting. It’s so stupid. You guys are full of yourselves. You think that we`re SO annoying because we don’t necessarily like someone’s acting, but have you ever felt that way? Probably not, since you guys talk down to us and make fun of us everytime we post our opinion! Whatever. =P

um… cool?

Avatar Image says:

Okay, Emma was great in ballet shoes, but in Harry Potter….no…. She’s like Michael Gambon to me, their good actors, but they’re not how I see their roles. Emma overreacts too much, and she has some very annoying habbits. their are only a few actors in Hp that I can actually take seriously. Rupert Grint for example, i think is perfect as Ron, he is ron in my mind. Alan Rickman, he’s pretty much how I pictured him, and he’s acts just how I pictured snape. Umbridge, Im forgot who plays her, but dang she was good. Draco, if they gave him more lines. Bonnie Wright if they gave her more lines (i’m sorry but 4 small sentences throughout a 2 hour movie won’t cut it). Their a few more, but I can’t think of them right now. But still congrats to Emma, and expecially David (i love Doctor Who).

Avatar Image says:

Much love to Emma of course, but…yeah, her performance in OotP was merely “okay.” Other women have done better things last year. What about Freema Agyaman, Imelda Stauton, or Mary McDonnell?

I wonder if it was a politial kind of thing, like “Well Harry Potter needs some kind of award, and Emma hasn’t gotten much yet….”

Avatar Image says:

ok i think emma will end up being like dan i diddnt think he was a fantastic actor but has improved greatly and i diddnt notice the kinda bad acting until the last movie but i saw her in ballet shoes so i no she can act its just she might take a while till she gets the hang of it for harry potter….(kinda like dan)

Avatar Image says:

erika – True, she just needs to ‘get the hang of Harry Potter. But I’m worried that the last movie(s) will just be horrible with her. :( I’m hoping that she won’t overeact too much, and I just HOPEEEE that she will be as good as she was in Ballet Shoes.

Brianna – I agree completely with you!

Avatar Image says:

Congradulations to Emma she deserves it in i mite add that she looked extremely gorgeous doing it.

Avatar Image says:

Congratulations Emma and David! Well done indeed!

Avatar Image says:

To give the award more credibility, they should have at least called the category Science Fiction and Fantasy. I think Emma does a wonderful job as Hermione but IMHO, the standout actress by far was Imelda Staunton. She was absolutely spot on and unforgettable. In fact I think Imelda’s Umbridge was Oscar nomination worthy.

Avatar Image says:

You know… I really want to have one of those cool looking pic’s on the side of my comments! How do I do that?

Oh… and congrats to Emma… again!

I feel like I give a lot of congratulations to these guys…. maybe I’m spoiling them! =p

Avatar Image says:

Congrats Emma and Dave! Emma is a great, young actress who will no doubt continue to get even better. I’ve never really seen David in anything but GOF, but he seems like a great actor too.

Avatar Image says:

Emma’s ok-she’s not how I pictured Hermione. I actually liked her acting more in the first and second movies (maybe it was the bushy hair which is real Hermione) but she’s not bad in HP, in my opinion.

Avatar Image says:

Well said, Brianna. You controlled yourself better than I can. Emma is such a horried actress. How does she win all these awards and Rupert is completely ignored?? His is some of the best acting in the films, but they pass him over every single time. Emma is so forced and predictable. AGH! These stories just infuriate me.

Avatar Image says:

Obviously some people like her acting. I don’t think rupert will ever win an award for HP unless it’s for the male supporting actor since he is not the lead actor and he doesn’t do much. Even then i don’t think it’s likely since he would be up against the guys who play Snape, Draco , Dumbledore, and Voldemort i suppose, whose roles should be greater from now on. There’s too much competition with the guys.

Avatar Image says:

emma’s acting in Ootp was so poor that if she’d done that in an audition she would never have gotten the part. Her skills seem to be rapidly deteriorating. I’d also say the same about Rupert Grint, he never does much in the films of worth either. I’d also disagree with people saying that Emma does well outside of HP. Did you watch Ballet Shoes? If you want to see fantastic acting from a young actress take a look at the performance of either one of Emma’s castmates in Ballet Shoes, Yasmin who played Petrova did so wonderfully and more convincingly than any seen of Emma’s.

Emma is a lovely girl but she needs a massive amount of training if she wants to continue to act, and at the moment she’s getting awards based on her looks more than anything else.

Avatar Image says:

I remember when I saw PS/SS and I thought what a wonderful actress Emma was. Since then, she seems to get a bit worse with every movie. Though I have only seen her on the HP movies, I have to agree with miriam and other posters who don’t thinks she deserves an award. If any actress deserves an award for OP is Imelda Staunton. She did a perfect Umbridge.

That said, Congrats to David, he’s, like soooo yummy.

Avatar Image says:

Snape’s mistress – hands off, David is my future husband and I’ll fight you for him! Glad to see someone on here doesn’t fall in to the “Emma’s such a brilliant actress” category. She needs to work more.

Avatar Image says:

I thought Emma was pretty good. I don’t know if i was just into the movie but i didn’t see anything wrong.Though I do agree that Imelda Staunton deserves the award for phoenix just a bit more. She was amazing as umbridge and was totally into her character. Unfortunately she doesn’t look like a toad but ah well. I think i shall always think of Imelda as umbridge. Congrats to emma and david.

Parabéns emma!! Eu sou brasileira [BRASIL] E Várias pessoas brasileiras adoram seu trabalho! vc é uma ótima atriz! não só vc como o Dan o Rupert e etc… Beijos

That is so awesome Emma you are an awesome actress and will go far in the acting industry.

Avatar Image says:

well done emma thats great :):):):):):):):)):)

Congratulations to Emma – and don’t forget that she won a National Movie Award for Order of the Phoenix too, so someone out there must think she’s good. I’ve never weighed in on the Emma acting debate before – so now I just have to say – I really don’t notice the eyebrow thing everyone talks about. I think she’s fine. And everyone pictures the characters differently. Emma is pretty much how I have pictured Hermione, I guess in the first one she looked spot-on to me, so that’s how I pictured her. Same with Dan Radcliffe (except for the messy hair in OOTP). I even think he looks pretty similar to the cover illustrations of the U.S. books, so maybe that colored my perception – and – after the first film, he just seemed so perfect. Rupert is also how I see Ron. Alan Rickman is perfect to me as Snape; Maggie Smith is Minerva McGonagle; Julie Walters is great as Mrs. Weasley; and Imelda Staunton is incredible as Umbridge. Moody is accurate to me. The twins are not how I imagined Fred and George looking – but I LOVE their performance, so I don’t care. I did not imagine Mr. Weasley looking as he does in the movies, and – Sirius – did not imagine him looking like that at all, but who cares – Gary Oldham was fantastic. Same with Lupin and Tonks – but again – I like the actors. Finally – Draco – my perception of how he looked changed after the movie to Tom Felton, liked this version better than my own. So – you see – each to his own.

Hey! Emma Watson rocks and I love Dr.Who!(i watch it every week) David Tennant is cool!

Avatar Image says:

Congrats to Emma. She is a great actress and deserved it.

People really need to stop being disrespectful and rude. We all know it is because she will kiss Rupert in the final film, and we know that is why you are so bitter. You don’t see me saying “Rupert Grint is a terrible actor, he should go in training because he did not deserve his role, and it’s no wonder he never gets nominated” because he is going to kiss Emma, do you? Because he isn’t a bad actor at all. I have no idea why he doesn’t get nominated, but it certainly isn’t Emma’s fault, because as far as I know Rupert is an actor, not an actress, and would not be up for the same awards as Emma.

If it is your opinion legitmately, you do not have to be rude and disrespectul to Emma and her fans. Many express their opinions without doing that. The fact you guys act so nasty doesn’t make anyone sympathize with you at all. So please calm down and learn to express your opinion while respecting others.

Avatar Image says: Well, that's nice for Emma, but I'm one of those who think she just cannot act. She's beautiful and seems like a lovely person, but sadly her acting is way too pretentious and shallow. Somebody has said that since the second film Emma's been acting herself, not Hemione, and I completely agree. So for me, she doesen't deserve the award at all. I hope that she'll develop, especially since, apparently, she keeps getting roles on her looks and popularity (you know, Emma's got so many fans that if she's starring in a movie, it's expected that the movie will get a lot of viewers and thus a lot of money.) it would be nice that she'd act well on those films too. I wish her good luck.
