Well, WB might have delayed the release of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” until July of next year, but the promised test screenings of the movie are taking place this month as announced previously by director David Yates. Tonight, one such test screening was held in Chicago and there is a thread ongoing in our forum that contains a report of the film, including a description on the Harry Ginny kiss, Slughorn and more. CAUTION MAJOR SPOILER ALERT at this link. We hope to have more on this shortly and will update here as soon as we can.

Thanks so much to Rach!

Oooh… if true, this won’t be the last report we’ll hear. I’m sure we’ll see plenty of them at good old Aint it cool…

Avatar Image says:

HOLY CRAP THE LUCKY CHICAGO PEOPLE GET TO SEE HBP!!!! At least from what I read Harry and Ginny barely kiss. THANK THE HEAVENS. Bonnie Wright does not deserve Dan Radcliffe, I DO. And too bad about Sluggy….

Avatar Image says:

I still can’t believe I got to go!!!

Avatar Image says:

I was there! [bounces up and down excitedly]

Avatar Image says:

NOOO! I`m so disappointed with everything now… :(

Avatar Image says:

did they shut the thread down? i only see 10 posts. too bad.

Avatar Image says:

DeathlyH—i think you’ve got it in reverse. Dan Radcliffe does not deserve Bonnie!

Avatar Image says:

I have some questions for those who saw it!

1. Is Alan Rickman good in HBP? 2. How were the Ron/LavLav scenes handled? 3. Is the Felix Felicis part handled well? 4. How did they fit the Levicorpus stuff in? (since the spell was used in the 5th movie for some reason)

Avatar Image says:

So wait, how did you get to go? Like, who asked you, or what ?!

Avatar Image says:

Did they show the hole movie or just parts of it. I don’t think they would have levicorpous there they would probably change it with a different spell since they used it in number 5. Wonder how they are going to work that or unless they did the ron eating the chocolate scene without the spell.

I was finally getting used to the idea of a summer release for HBP, but after reading the thread I’m all angsty again. Sigh…

Avatar Image says:

Wow. OMG, is this real? The kiss scene sounds like a real dud. i don’t know what i expected but definitely NOT that. ): What is WB playing at? The kiss was a cool moment in the book and it sounds like it’s a non-event in the movie and easily forgettable. I’m so disappointed.

I hope it doesn’t look as bad as it sounds. Do Harry and Ginny even date in this movie? Is there any acknowledgment of their feelings beyond this kiss? It’s so weird.

Avatar Image says:

well after reading dan say he thought bonnie was really nervous and he liked the darker stuff more I expected a dud. Plus he told Emma is was boring kissing. Not a good sign. Maybe bonnie just choked under the pressure.

Avatar Image says:

Bonnie did not choke under pressure, that’s the way the script called it. It’s different from the book, and it’s disappointing they changed it, but don’t blame the actors. Blame Steve Kloves.

I am curious though about them almost kissing before the DE attack though. I thought that whole shoelace thing took place before she was in a bathrobe? Does that mean there’s two different moments here?

Avatar Image says:

Oh well h/G sucked in the book so whatever. What about Ron/hermione/lavendar? How did that play out? was it as funny as they make it out to be?

Avatar Image says:

I was there… way disappointed in the Ginny/Harry kiss. Ugh. But some moments were really touching and funny and great too! :)

Avatar Image says:

I KNEW it was going to be for HBP! I was invited to it yesterday, but when I called to RSVP, it was already full. I’m incredibly jealous of everyone who got to go.

Avatar Image says:

Go to the forum, Susan!

Avatar Image says:

I’m all bummed out now…i had totally gotten used to the summer release but now…sobs

Avatar Image says:

I’m having mixed feelings from what I have read so far. I think by next year i may not have an interest in seeing the movie at all.

Avatar Image says:

Wow, this actually makes me very angry. As others have said I was just getting used to the whole July 2009 deal and now I hear that some HP have already seen the film! 10 MONTHS before I get to…. wow very depressing :(

Avatar Image says:

I don’t want the movie spoiled by reading the other comments or the forum, but it does make me sad that more and more people are getting to see the movie when we have to wait till July. 313 days left! : (

Avatar Image says:

This makes me so sad…from what I’ve read it doesn’t sound anything like the Half Blood Prince we know and love.

Avatar Image says:

Okay, after having a bit of time to sink in this depressing news about the H/G kiss, I am now officially mad. Don’t they EVER get ANYTHING right? Seriously. I mean, WTF?! So now we have two kisses in the RoR. (Cho, Ginny) That’s ridiculous & stupid. I usually don’t complain about this stuff, but since I`m not going to see this until next year, I`m going to complain as much as I want. So I`m guessing Ron & Lavender are going to kiss in the Gryffindor Common Room then? Well, I saw that coming anyway. But the fact that GINNY kisses Harry makes me angry! And no tiara? What is happening to this movie? It’s seriously stupid from my point of view right now. And the portrayal of Slughorn makes me angry too. Steve Kloves sucks. I never liked him anyway. He gives Hermione too many lines and I guess now Harry and Ginny’s kiss is ruined.

Avatar Image says:

please tell me they did the ron, hermy, lav triangle right. Did ron and hermione at least have a good makeup scene like the book.

Avatar Image says:

sobs I can’t believe what they did to the H/G kiss. that was one of my favorite parts of the book! the way the poster describes it sounds really awful, in my opinion. :( i guess i’ll get over it eventually. but seriously, Harry flirting with a waitress?? that is so out of character it’s ridiculous. I’m sorry, but i can’t imagine him flirting with some random girl. it’s too wierd!! i hope the rest of the movie is better. but now what I really want to know is where the movie ends if the funeral isn’t in it..

Avatar Image says:

Wow, I almost wish I hadn’t seen this story.

Avatar Image says:

Harry flirts with a WAITRESS????

Avatar Image says:

Well, I`m not all disappointed with the flirting-with-waitress thing. I knew that already. SS reported that. But I thought that would be in the Three Broomsticks – not *SPOILER! some random stupid Little Whinging coffee shop. That’s stupid..

Avatar Image says:

hey i’ve got an idea, why don’t the wb use the delay time to RESHOOT the H/G kiss…everyone says is HORRIBLE. that’s something worth campaigning for.

Avatar Image says:

I like that idea abandonedboyjon! Maybe Melissa can convice WB to do this since she has contact with them? Please?

Avatar Image says:

SPOILER!!! SPOILER !!!!, don’t read if you haven’t read the report on movie.

How in the world could they cut the funeral of Dumbledore, i’m quite surprised by this news. You all should be more concern over this than the kiss between harry and ginny. I’m in a state of shock that they cut the funeral scene. This must be some kind of joke. I’m not a huge fan of the series but at least i thought such a scene was quite important in the book.

Avatar Image says:

Guys, I don’t think Melissa has that kind of power and I doubt she would even try to do it. Also, I still believe that we shouldn’t judge a movie without seeing it. Sure some people have seen it and given reports, but if I want make my own mind up about a movie, I’d go see it. In fact, we should be happy that Michael Gambon will be promising since the majority of HP fans don’t like him.

Remember, the movies are one’s interpretation of the books.

Avatar Image says:

man, i really REALLY hope some of the stuff shes talking about is NOT in the final cut of the movie. the harry/ginny kiss sounds AWEFUL!!! how could they do that?? there was a REASON the H/G kiss happened how and when it did. grrrrrrrrrr.

Avatar Image says:

Say what, we’ve known about the funeral cut for a while now. It’s disappointing, but maybe they’ll do it in DH.

Avatar Image says:

So let me get this straight. They cut the funeral but added a burrow scene. How stupid is that? Hope they didn’t butcher the love triangle much. And I didn’t expect much with H/G since Ginny is virtually nonexistant in DH. Why spend the time on that when other things are more important. I wanna know about the dark scenes like the cave stuff. That’s more important than anything.

Avatar Image says:

Ever since OOTP came out I have lost hope that any of the movies will be as good as the books. I was generally pleased with GOF mostly because I thought the graveyard scene was awesome. But Phoenix just disappointed me on so many levels.

I bought my wife a T-Shirt that says “NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S MOVIE” and so many people come up to her and tell her how much they like it that I get the idea that few people think that movies are better than books.

So dispite the risk of disappointment, I will still go the the movies, but really people, the most satisfying HP experience is reading the books. Don’t get so tangled up in hoping to see the books rendered faithfully on the screen. They will have a chance to do it right in the two DH movies, but since so many of the plot points were left out of the previous films it’s just going to be muddled.

Avatar Image says:

Seriously, the H/G kiss is getting to me. They better be making out 24/7 after that scene! I’m not going to be happy with just a stupid peck that means nothing.

Avatar Image says:

Over at IMDB there’s a few reports up about the ending.. it sounds really good, even without the funeral. The memory scenes sound great too, so I guess I’ll just have to wait to see the movie myself to judge the romance and all that.

Avatar Image says:

For anyone who got to see the movie-did they make you fill out a questionnaire? I read that way back when in 1939 when the studio tested Gone with the Wind the test audiences input about the original ending got it changed to the great ending we have now. I only ask because maybe if people put how much they hated the kiss it could get it reshot but I don’t think the studios listen to the fans much anymore anyway.

Avatar Image says:

You know, I’m disappointed in the fandom right now. We all should have realized that there is no way that the movies will be as good as the books since the first movies. Just learn to separate the two entities.

Avatar Image says:

Sounds like a lot of changes from the book, but if it works well on screen, I have no problem with that.

Avatar Image says:

Ah! I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on this!!!! And I had completely forgotten that there would be test screenings! Weird, though, to see the movie exclusively once, then not again for eleven months.

Oh, man, I don’t want everything to be spoiled. This is always so tricky.

Avatar Image says:

wow i just read that whole thing!!sooo good! canwait 4 ron and hermiony scenes!make me giggle!!

Avatar Image says:

I’m ticked off about the apparent lack of Remus and Tonks in the film. Lupin is my favorite character in the book, but after giving him one movie (which also happens to be my least favorite film, with all the changes that were made), they’ve completely abandoned his storyline. Now, I understand that his storyline isn’t as important as the stories of the main trio, Ginny, Dumbledore, etc., but they don’t have to cut him so completely like this!

What about book seven? If they never discuss Lupin/Tonks now, how are we supposed to care about… what happens in book seven? That scene in Deathly Hallows may have torn my heart out in the book, but if they cut the scene out of the DH films completely… that would just be beyond catastrophic to me. :(

Emma talked to dan and BONNIE about the kissing sence and they BOTH said that it gets BORING AFTER SO MANY SHOOTS. Dan didnt say it was boring kissing bonnie. .. yes im a h/g fangirl and I like the way they did the new kissing sence because if you really payed atttention little kids come and see this movie and i dont think the common room kiss would be really goof for little kids to see. but i am dissopointed with the sence of the RoR.

Avatar Image says:

Nice. Oh well, this means no Potter site reading/podcast listening for me… FOR A YEAR. Thanks WB.

Which theater was this shown in? I live in Chicago and just wondering where it was held at.
