At the recent National Movie Awards, actress Emma Watson made very brief comments to reporters on the red carpet regarding the delay of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” In this video via YouTube, Emma can be heard saying what while she feels they have done the right thing for the movie, she also appeared sympathetic as she noted it was terrible that fans don’t get an installment in the series this year and that the suspense will make it even better once we get to see it. Emma has also updated her blog at her official website noting how much fun she had at the movie awards. You can see photos of Emma at the event here in our image galleries, new photos at her official site taken by her father, and additional videos of Emma at the awards ceremony via our Order parter Emma-Watson.net.

first to comment! her dress is kinda weird though…

Avatar Image says:

THAT looked uncomfortable. what does she mean, the right thing for the film?

Avatar Image says:

She looked beautiful. I’ m so glad she had such a great time and she was a doll for being so good to the fans. She’s always so positive about things including the movie date change. She said in another interview that good things come to those that wait. She seems to think HBP is that good so I’ll trust her on that one. She is the cutest. I loved her mannerisms at the award presentation. Adorable.

Avatar Image says:

Oh, that dress is not weird!! It’s stunning! And she wears it well. Perfect makeup and hair to match, too :)

Counting down the days until HBP, again!

Avatar Image says:

It has to be akward for the actors when the studio makes decisions like that and upset the fans because no matter what the actors have to act like they agree with the decision regardless of whether they really do or not, but at the same time they also have to appear to sympathize with the fans. I actually feel sort of bad for them because the actors have to go to events and stuff so they can’t really escape the questions/comments about the delay while the a-holes who actually made the decision get to sit up in their cushy offices, hide, and sometimes have their PR people make a statement for them.

Avatar Image says:

She’s just saying what they told her to say. They want to time it for the awards, like the oscars or something. Oh doesn’t she look tired, check out her eyes. I hope they aren’t forcing drugs on her or something to keep her perky at the endless appointments that come with celebrity.

Avatar Image says:

Yeah, I think her dress is beautiful. This is going to sound really strange, but her eyebrows look really dark. They don’t seem to match her hair color at all. Is that intentional…? I agree with bella vita. The actors and actresses are out there among the public and have the spotlight thrust upon them 24/7, while the people making the decisions are pretty much nameless and faceless. I feel bad for Dan, Emma, Rupert and company—especially Dan, since he’s in the states and I have a feeling we’re a bit more, er, rabid about the movie stuff than our overseas counterparts.

Avatar Image says:

Her eyebrows have always been dark and a little prominent.

Avatar Image says:

That’s weird that she would say they did the right thing for the film. I thought the film was already finished. She makes it sound like they are delaying the film to make it better. A slip maybe? Or perhaps just an odd choice of phrasing.

Avatar Image says:

I am totally in love with that white dress she is wearing!!!

Avatar Image says:

“Time it for the awards”? But then the November release would have been better! Closer to the actual air date of the award shows means a more recent viewing of the movie and a greater likelihood of being remembered for nominations! And the dress puts me in mind of Empress Josephine, who of course was an icon of fashion in her day.

Avatar Image says:

ya, i guess its not really, sorry. its just the first pic i saw was a weird angle and it looked sorta funny. i love the silver with the white though

Avatar Image says:

I think the dress is okay…But anyways, I still don’t agree with her saying it’s the right thing for the film. But that’s just me being a fan. And anyways, all the actors have to or will say that. So I was expecting her answer. Sighs that’s okay, I love Emma.

Avatar Image says:

Wow I really love that dress too, and the shoes!!! I usually disaprove what she wears!

Avatar Image says:

the dress also just kinda looked as though it were going to fall apart..

Avatar Image says:

She has to say she thinks the move to next year is a good idea, because WB are her bosses!

Avatar Image says:

Guys if you want to complain about the changes and about the movie you could call Nickie on 020 7984 5244 in Warner Bros.

Avatar Image says:

she probably can’t say anything bad about WB, after all, they are paying her. love the dress ;-)

Avatar Image says:

Of course she thinks “it’s the right thing for the movie”, because she stands to make more money if the film makes more money, just as WB does. She has just as much a vested interest as WB.

Avatar Image says:

The dress is pretty, but it’s seems like it’s a bit too big for her, or maybe just the dress style needs someone with a bit more, ummm.. full, voluptuous figure?

Avatar Image says:

She looked very pretty….just needs to work on her posture and that dress would look better if she had the cleavage to fill it out…then she would have been stunning.

Avatar Image says:

I’m really pissed off because the film was delayed

Avatar Image says:

I have never blamed any of the actors or actresses for the delay as they have no more control over such things than we do, i have never heard of even the biggest box offices stars being given such control over any film they worked on. while WB signs her pay check i doubt that they would fire her if she critized the delay, as i think the up roar over such a move by wb would likely be worse than the delay, and the same would go for daniel and rupert as well, 5 movies in to there series has made them irreplaceable unless they could not phsyically do it ( death or major permanant injuries, i wish neither on any of them ) example the role of Dumbledore, if not for his death Richard harris would still be playing him. at any rate its good to hear any of the actors commenting on it, i just wish JKR would say something, even though there is nothing she can do about it

Avatar Image says:

That pink dress is very English. The English styles are stuffy, fluffy and too antiquated. That’s what they call beautiful? She looked as if she were wearing a curtain. The stuffy royals wear that kind of matronly outfit. Young girls should not. I also hated her hair in that scene, which was stiff and flat. Ugh.

Avatar Image says:

That dress is beautiful on her. :)

Avatar Image says:

oh my gosh rock out harry loony

hahahaha

Avatar Image says:

It makes me laugh reading people making comments like ‘she needs to work on her posture’ things like that, cut her some slack FFS! I love that she is very much just a normal (albeit beautiful) girl and not going out of her way to be like all the other young actresses and celebrities who do act like robots half the time with fake everything.

She’s cute, I would definitely…kiss her…if she wanted me to…which she wouldn’t…but I can dream.

Avatar Image says:

Emma is a beautiful young lady and a wonderful actress. I look forward to seeing her in other roles once the Potter films are complete.

I was really upset when they moved the release date back, but after reading some reviews online from people who were lucky enough to see the recent “mystery” screening in Chicago, I’m glad that they delayed it. I hope they take this extra time to improve the film, because if it really is like the reviewers say, I think a lot of fans are going to be VERY disappointed.

Avatar Image says:

I was never much of a Emma Watson fan… but I liked her interview, especially when talking about the HBP delay.

Avatar Image says:

I heard Emma had a “wardrobe malfuction”. Was it after or during the award show? Or was the malfunction just a case of odd fitting dress? lol. And here I thought Emma’s fashion sense has improved.

Avatar Image says:

It must be difficult and awkward for the stars when such decisions are taken by the studio. Even though I’m mad at WB for the date change, I won’t really scrutinise Emma’s statements. I’m just glad she put in a word for the fans. This change really has nothing to do with her, or any of he cast as such.

On a side note, she looks beautiful as usual in the pictures!

Avatar Image says:

Regarding the dark eyebrows comment, I have the same thing going on as her. My hairs roughly the same color as hers and my eyebrows are a very dark brown/black.

Her dress isn’t something I’d necessarily pick out, but hey, everybody has their own taste. She still is pretty though.

Her comments are just merely comments. I’m sure she’s not allowed to say she doesn’t agree with WB, but I’m happy she said something about the fans.

Avatar Image says:

Yep, the dress is very Empress Josephine-like and yes, better posture would have helped it look more regal. In the photo from the front with her hair up, it looked like she lopped off the long hair and had a kinda cute new short & sassy ‘do. But then the other pix showed that it was pinned up. I think she’d look cute with shorter hair once her HP commitments are over. I think many blondes have a similar issue with their hair and eyebrows. Probably best to leave those colors be as I’ve seen ghastly results from people trying to dye their eyebrows.

Avatar Image says:

Emma’s real hair color is brown – her eyebrows stand out more because she has her hair dyed blonde… I guess that’s one of the latest styles these days, which I think is a little bit tiresome. Also, each of the trio have movie/play commitments to fill out their time between HBP and DH pt. 1… hmm. Does it seem coincindental that their other commitment schedules just happen to begin right after the filming completion of HBP? I mean, it was known well ahead of time that Dan was scheduled to do Equus in the fall of ‘08, but when rumors started to hit the media that Emma was going to star in the “Napoleon and Betsy” film, her official website said it wasn’t confirmed yet. Then a few months later after the filming of HBP was completed, it was announced in the media that she’d begin filming around the fall of ‘08. I think ONE of the reasons for WB’s decision to delay the film release had something to do with the “main” actors other commitments this year. Promotion of the film would’ve conflicted with their production schedules for their perspective film projects. This delay also presented an opportunity for Rupert to do another film this year as well. If there is any truth to this, the main actors have a lot to do with the delay of the film release. Ultimately, it’s a win-win situation for all of them. This is just my take on all this.

Avatar Image says:

Did Emma say something about the movie being moved for the awards’ season? So, does that mean that we might have an HP movie that’s Oscar worthy? Hope so. It makes sense for WB to concentrate only on promoting Dark Knight for the Oscars. Blah, all these speculations make the waiting more tiresome…

Avatar Image says:

Ed Black – you really shouldn’t be so selective about HBP reviews. There are far more positive ones on IMDB, MuggleNet etc. Keep an open mind and decide for yourself. ( Yes, I know we’ve a long wait. )

Avatar Image says:

Sky News has a longer quote about her comments on the HBP Delay: “Good things come to those who wait. I’m not involved in that decision, but it was the best thing for the film. The hype is huge.” (Sky News, 3:26am UK, Tuesday September 09, 2008)

Avatar Image says:

The actors and actresses are just their puppets lol. And plus, why do they care when it’s released? They get to have the fame, money, and know of the scenes ahead of time anyway since they acted them out and read the scipt… so of course they wouldn’t really care.

Avatar Image says:

Scully – I have seen the reviews on the sites that you mention, however when the reviews say that key elements of the story (i.e. no death eater battle, no funeral for Dumbledore) are not in the film, I become concerned. I realize that they can’t put everything in the movie, and that the film will probably receive further editing before the release date, but if they leave out key scenes & major events, then the story will be lacking.

Avatar Image says:

@bambie:

Bambie, I don’t think that makes any sense or holds much truth. Movies that are up for Oscars are usually released during December. That’s when you see a flood of dramas hitting theaters. Sometimes you’ll get one that was released in the fall/autumn, but that’s as far back as I’ve seen them go (though I’m sure there are outliers). I really doubt David Yates & co. are trying to get any Oscars for the acting in the film. Maybe for DH, but not for HBP.

Avatar Image says:

She’s hardly going to complain about it now is she. WB pays her salary and she’s going to stay loyal. I did chuckle at her saying it’s “the best thing for the film”, yeah right, in terms of intending to make more money from the Summer market. Poor child has no idea. Not a fan of the dress, didn’t really flatter her but she’s young and we all make mistakes fashion-wise.

Avatar Image says:

Oh and Benet, not all English folk like her dresses (just as I doubt that just because someone was American it wouldn’t mean they loved Paris Hilton). Please don’t generalise, it makes you sound silly. I certainly think her taste is quite questionable and I am English.

Avatar Image says:

@ Ed Black – I understand your concerns and yes, those expecting a scene by scene translation of the book will no doubt be disappointed. However, I’ve seen a ‘purist’ reviewer who admits to plot concerns but still believes HBP to be the best movie so far. Another on MuggleNet who hated OotP says the same. This doesn’t make them right and negative reviews wrong – I’d just ask for an open mind.

Avatar Image says:

Firstly, the dress was gorgeous, but SOMEONE should tell the girl how to stand in a dress like that! The still shots all show her slouching and dropping one shoulder, which completely ruins the effect of the gown. You can slouch in jeans and a tee shirt, but in a dress like this you need to stand tall and put your shoulders back to carry it with elegance.

Secondly, the words coming out of her mouth are purely studio brainwashing. They’ve told her to say “it’s the best thing for the film” – what, did they sit down with “the film” and discuss it over a cup of tea? And “the film” said, “Yes, really, it’s the best thing for me, dear.” What a load of hooey.

You can tell she thinks it’s a load of hooey, too, by the way she makes her exit – she looks like she wants to get the heck out of there before she’s mobbed by a bunch of angry HP fans.

I´m sorry I´m just in the mood for some WB hating. They are STUPID. They´re ruining the series. If they had cared more about doing things right, something like lord of the rings, they would make an incredible amount of money, they would please not only fans of the book, everyone else would like to see it. It makes so much money ONLY BECAUSE OF FANS LIKE US. And they screw it! They are, in short, LAZY.

Avatar Image says:

shame that we know she’s only saying what she knows she has to, she has to defend WBs decision doesn’t she. nice to see she knows how to say things unlike alan horn. maybe she should have made the public apology instead then i bet they would have recieved half the amount of complaints alan horn got. stupid idiot.

Avatar Image says:

I don’t understand why you people have been blabbing about what you think about her outfit rather than commenting on the article…no offense, though!! As much as I love Emma Watson, it does sound a bit like something the Warner Brothers would say. But I guess you have to appreciate the fact that she is sympathetic for us fans…anyways….bye!!

Avatar Image says:

Wow…now that I’m reading the comments above me I have to say 1 last thing: I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, ANNA, WHOEVER YOU ARE!!

Avatar Image says:

@ Scully,

Don’t mistake my concern about the film as meaning I’m not open minded. I approach every Potter film with an open mind, because I know that some changes have to be made in order to turn a lengthy novel into a 2 hour film. I am not a “purist” who is going to nit-pick every little detail of the film, but I am concerned that they are changing things that will make it a less than enjoyable experience.

Avatar Image says:

ok, am I the only one who can’t find the video? I think it moved since yesterday. does anyone have an updated link?

Avatar Image says:

I am not upset that WB’s decided to postpone the Half Bored Ponce movie until next year since I will not be seeing it and the Deathly Halitocis Twin bill. I do not wish to see the deconstruction of the Light side forces especially the Harry & Hermione charaters in favor of forgiving the dark side’s transgressions. Watching Hermione lose 100 IQ points and Harry’s fall from a wizard who can cast aside over 100 dementors to near squib like performance in the last cannon book is just not our cup of tea.

Don’t get me wrong – My wife and I Love what JKR created. We have both the Scholastic and Bloombury editions ot all 7 books including the first 2 charity booklets and the Jim Dale’s Audiobooks. It was such a joy to see when Book 1 came out and ALL of the school kids in our Co-op were READING the book while we were all heading to work/school in the morning in the elevator. Prior to this they were mostly playing with their handheld games. The charaterization portraied in the first 5 books, especially Emma’s as a strong, intelligent young girl to young lady was such a great role model in our opinion for all of the young girls out there.

But the plotholes throughout the series kind of killed our adore by the end of book 5. We pushed foward on 6 & 7 hoping that the good ship Potterverse would right itself but alas it was not to be…Our exposure to Harry Potter FanFiction Online world have given us stories that have shown us how great the series could have become to the level of The Lord of the Rings and Narnia stories, to name just a few…these unpaid Fic writers have our admirations and thanks…

Ed Black- can you put a spoiler warning in your post if you’re going to talk about the HBP review please!! I purposely didn’t read it so I could wait until the film to see what’s been added in/left out..

It’s not like Emma would be able to say anything else.. Though I doubt WB would sack her if she did say something against them!

Avatar Image says:

Back in the days of the big movie studios, it was in the actor’s contract that they had to promote the film they were in. They weren’t paid for it, either.

That’s why you never hear any actor express doubts about the success/greatness of a film they were in. And they are probably warned off commenting on business decisions the studio makes. They’re actors, not corporate moguls.

But you do sometimes hear it later! :)

Who do you think will be first to write a book about it in a few years? My money’s on Dan.

Avatar Image says:

make ups…......

Avatar Image says:

I wrote a message to WB via their site and they rejected it as spam! I didn’t write anything bad in it =(, just because I wrote “Half Blood Prince” as part of the message. How annoying can they get? Oh God.

@ TurtleBlue – pretentious claptrap.
