Helen McCrory to begin Filming Role as Narcissa Malfoy in "Half-Blood Prince"
McCrory InterviewsThe Independent has a new feature online today with actress Helen McCrory who mentions very briefly about beginning her work as Narcissa Malfoy in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The paper notes her filming for this is about to start shortly, with the actress saying:
“I’m looking forward to it. It’s unusual to have such a successful film only starring British actors. I have really started to enjoy the craft of film acting. I do a lot more film and television now than theatre. The difference between screen and stage is that in theatre it’s tangible whether someone can act or not. I’ve worked with people, who will remain nameless, where a film scene has had to be cobbled together from a whole day’s worth of takes because the actor is []. They can’t remember the lines; if they do remember the lines, they can’t remember the moves. In the final project, they will look great, because the director will cut the film for them. In theatre, you can’t employ someone who can’t remember their bloody lines. That’s the difference,” she says.
Originally cast in the part of Bellatrix Lestrange, readers will recall that Helen McCrory had to drop out of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix due to her pregnancy, and has now taken the part of Narcissa, the sister of Bellatrix. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is due in theaters November 21, 2008.

P.S the actor who played Dumbledore in the first two movie was Richard Harris , he passed away from hodgkins disease, the current Dumbledore is played by Michael Gambon, lets face it , replacing someone is a hard thing to do because people already have expectations.

Huh. I don’t really like her attitude. Seems a little uppity about being an actress, eh? Well, I guess when you’re offered a big once-in-a-lifetime job you could get pigheaded. Haha that means she’ll be perfect for Narcissa!
Annnd I dunno, I believe acting on the stage is much more rewarding- it’s all part of the experience of learning what to do and not to do when preparing for a show (and when actually performing)! :) I guess I can understand because in films if you make a mistake you can do it over again. But eh, mistakes are what make theatre fun!

I think she could look a lot like Narcissa Malfoy. I think she would be pretty but still have a hard edge to her looks. Someone, I forgot to notice who it is, sorry, has posted a photo manipulation, in the Leaky Fan Art Gallery, of Helen McCrory as a blue eyed blond She fits the way I have always pictured her. Here is where you can find the picture http://fanart.the-leaky-cauldron.org/picture/view/4429

Am just re-reading the books, and I was laughing when I read the part about DD asking Harry if he put his name in the cup, because in the book, the exact wording is:
“Did you put your name in the cup?” Dumbledore asked calmly.
Anyway, not sure if that is the exact exact wording, but it definitely he says he asked “calmly”. So funny how they translated that to the film, where DD practlcally molests Harry while asking him the question.
But really, re-reading the books is just making me appreciate the impossibility of the movies ever being close to as good as the books. The books just have so many sub-plots that are SO satisfying to read, and as I’m watching the movies and seeing these sub-plots completely missing, I’m thinking “NOOOOO!!!”. But the movies will always be sort of pale cliffs-notes imitations of the books. Oh well, I still enjoy them for what they are. The special effects and production design are inspired though, I will definitely give them that.
As for the actress playing Narcissa, I don’t really have an opinion on that. I’m sure she is a super talented actress, as are the entire cast of the films.

I don’t know. I was a little disappointed when I saw that they casted her as Narcissa. I’ve never seen her work in films or plays or whatever type of thing she does, but from what people say, she’s good, I guess? As long as she’s REALLY, I mean REALLY, good, I’ll be satisfied. But not all that satisfied, seeing that her hair is not blonde. I don`t know, it just annoys me that she was once casted for Bellatrix. She has that sort of dark tinge to her facial expressions, & I think Narcissa would have a softer and timid one. Blah! But whatever, we’ll just have to see. & I agree, she did seem a little uppity in that interview. Sigh

Boo. The woman got knocked up and they held any old female role for her. Not what I call a wise casting choice.

I agree with Amy S “I can’t help but being totally disappointed in this casting choice. I just don’t think any amount of movie magic will make her anything like the Narcissa I imagined, who was quite hot …” She is a fine actress I’m sure but nothing how I imagined Narcissa. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it all turns out.

i have seen movies from this actres and i like her…. she will do it great …........’cause the cast of HP is used to select good actors for these movies…....... i’ll give her a chance and wait to watch this her…..

for those of you complaining about her not having that look about her and that no magic will make her look like Narcissa, then you are not a true movie or Harry potter fan and your also a hypocrite, because you sound uppitty about yourselves as well ” like I got to have it my way or the Highway,” trust me since we are on the subject of Narcissa there is quite alot of narcissism on this chat board.

remember tonks and the purple hair (i was devistated for the reason they gave out, as if the fans are idiots and we are going to link tonks with umbridge) i don’t know maybe they will make her red haired because maybe fans will be confused with her husband. i hate it when they change how the charcters look.

Wow you are all a hard bunch, now think about it. Everyone is saying she was being uppity and whatnot in that interview, ever wonder why they call it acting? Do you think that everyone in the movies acts like that in real life? From what I’ve heard she is a fine actor and how someone is in real life shouldn’t (maybe I’m wrong) reflect how they act in a movie as a totally different character, although many thinks she acts how Narcissa would. And as for the appearance I’m sure there’s no such thing as make-up, wigs(yes I know other people have mentioned them), or even computer graphics. Do you think Ralph Fiennes really doesn’t have a nose? And as for the people whining how she doesn’t look like how YOU pictured her, holy crap what were the chances? I know me posting won’t actually stop people from saying stuff like this but please atleast consider someone’s talent OVER their physical appearance, especially when it can be altered, more so in a movie.

Andrew, you crack me up!!! Apparently you did not hear that Ralph Fiennes, in order to portray Voldemort realistically, actually consented to plastic surgery. I think it was a bad move, personally, but he was engaged in an infantile contest with the guy who plays Kreacher. [wink, wink, nudge, nudge] I quite agree with you. Most people here really need to chill out a little. I do like how foose3 put it: “my cissy” and “my bella”. Shows ownership of one’s concepts without demanding everyone else adhere to them.
The Phelps twins do not have ginger hair. Robbie Coltrane is not really seven feet tall. Jason Isaacs is not a platinum blonde. I think we’ll be fine with how Cissy turns out.
I also enjoyed Mrs Figg immensely, although I would have heartily approved of seeing her drop a couple of cans of cat food in the tunnel.

Well, I’d rather her acting was good and the costume sucked than the other way around. A good actor can make you believe anything. Look at all the women who play Hamlet!

I applaud you Andrew and ginerva you guys got heart and took the words right out of my mouth, that is what I have been trying to get across this whole time people just need to give her a chance and ” see past the end of their nose” , thanks a million , have patience and she will turn out as Narcissa in no time.

P.S. Helena had her baby (a daughter) in December…so it’s plausible that they will begin filming the Spinner’s End scene…

She is an excellent actress, I’m looking forward to her performance. Its interesting but one feature that distinguish many english actors from american is that they have done more stage work. It makes them better at their craft in my opinion.

If everyone will stop carping about Helen’s looks and watch her performance in “The Queen” as Prime Minister Tony Blair’s wife, they will see a wonderful actress with a mischievous sense of humor who will bring a great deal to this role. And as a new mother, she will endow that moment of the Unbreakable Vow with a heartfelt intensity that would even give our fave mom, Molly Weasley, a run for the money!

i always pictured her with lond straight blonde hair some one said Nichole kidman i think she wouldve been PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =(

OMG why in the WORLD would they pick Gwyneth paltrow or cate blanchett for Cissy? both of these girls are too kind looking to even remotely resemble the cissy that would have been hot had it not been for her continued expression of ‘smelling smth nasty right under her nose’. nah,....they’re way too innocent looking to play cissy. i think Helen McCrory is fine, so long as they get the hair right please…..it would be odd if she had dark hair. then they can rightfully do a scene where harry questions Cissy’s loyalty towards her husband. llol…

i dont think that helen should’ve been casted for narcissa, its unfortunate that she had a baby at the time, it should’ve waited a while, lol so she could be bellatrix. she looks much more like my bella then my cissy
