UPDATE: Further our report below, This is Gloucestershire is reporting that actors Alan Rickman (Professor Snape), Tom Felton (Draco) and Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall) are now on set at the Cathedral for filming as well as Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley). The article, which is continuously being updated, now states both Rupert and Alan have been “caught on camera in full make-up”. The paper reports “Two sets of crutches were also spotted arriving at the set – leading to speculation the scenes after Ron falls from his broom in a game of quidditch could be being filmed. It is believed filing will go on until 7pm tonight, and will be finished at the Cathedral by the end of tomorrow. ” You can see a photo of Alan Rickman as Snape here, as well as Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, here.

UPDATE 3: The BBC has a batch of new photos from the filming today, including new photos of “Half-Blood Prince” director David Yates, James Phelps (Fred Weasley) who is working as a runner on the film as well, new Rupert Grint here and here, local students as extras seen wearing their Hogwarts robes, doubles for Draco Malfoy, Snape and more.

UPDATE 2: Thanks to Oclumencia, we can now see photos of Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) arriving on the set as well as larger photos the Alan Rickman photos from earlier today. At this link, you can also see a slide show of some newer photos, including the doubles of some of the actors arriving today as well. You can also see more set preparation photos here via the BBC, which also has this preview article regarding the filming for “Half-Blood Prince.” More when we get it! As always, anyone attending the filming, please send in your report and photos which we will post.

As we reported last week, location filming for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is set to begin today, with the Cloisters of Gloucester Cathedral closed now through February 8. Many cast members including Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione), Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall) are due for this location filming. As such, This is Gloucestershire has launched a new contest for photos of the visiting stars, as the paper notes “Anyone who manages to capture a photo of one of the major cast members should submit a copy of the picture to us – and win themselves £20.” You can find more information about this contest here. In addition, the paper has also added a few new set preparation photos here. Be sure to see the HBP location photos readers have sent us previously here in our galleries, and as always, anyone who attends the filming over the next few days, please send in your reports and photos which we will post.

@Iolanthe: I don’t think it’s going to be that hard for them to get pictures because someone got alot of pictures when they were filming the Slughorn scenes. And Michael Gambon and Daniel Radcliffe were signing autographs, so I doubt it will be that hard.

But most of the filming is probably going to be inside the cathedral and i doubt people are just going to be able to walk in and out as they please because they might mess up the sets or something.

Luna, Hermione will probably jump on a branch of the whomping willow and swing over to the astromony tower, grab Dumbledore’s robes and hurl him into the tunnel under the tree, before Snape can cast Avada Kedavra. She’s super strong like that.

I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think Dumbledore is going to die just like he did in the book only a little more dramatic because it is a movie. I think the DA and the order will be fighting the death eaters and i think Harry will run after Snape like he did in the book. Just more dramatic because it is a movie.

And i thought that whomping willow part was cool and entertaining. Alot more entertaining than watching a cat walk up to a tree and put it’s paw on it.

but anyways this topic has nothing to do with the plot of the movies or even you guys favorite topic, Hermione. it has to do with filming beginning at the cathedral.

I personally don’t care about where they’re filming. I just want to see the freakin’ movie. i know it’s going to be awesome, but it doesn’t come out until november so there’s not much to discuss.

“Gosh, I hope there is a lot of kissy, mooshy, gooshy Harry/Hermione stuff because ALL the movies are that way. I mean, they’re SOOOO cuttte and stuff. Squueeeee!”

Rolls eyes….

What movies are you people watching? Hermione the hero…you have read the books, haven’t you? When they film the last one, will you be whinging because it’s, wait for it, Harry and Hermione left to carry on for quite a while because Ron the Whiner took off on his friends? Read the books, watch the films more closely, and for God’s sake, get over your Danemma complex!

@ celia,

Even as I type this, I am getting ready to mail you a sense of humor. When it arrives in your mailbox in a few days’ time, do make use of it, my dear, and then try re-reading Luna’s posts. I think, with your brand spanking new Sense O’ Humor, you’ll finally get the joke, and then maybe you’ll lighten up a bit.

Yours sincerely, Alison

@ bebe

see u just made their point… atleast that part was written in the books… u wont see any complaints there… but what kloves has done in the movies is really unnecessary making hermione this super strong person when in the books, she’s just as vulnerable as ron…

I wonder what scene they’re filming. I bet it’s just going to be a bunch of walking in the hall way scenes. and maybe all the hospital scenes because there’s a bunch of those in book 6, because Ron gets poisoned, Harry gets knocked out, and then that scene after dumbledore dies where harry tells them all. I really hope that scene where Harry gets knocked out by MacLaggen is in there cause that’s by far the funniest part in book 6. I love it!

When I went there, there were a lot of men on the roofs so I was wondering whether it was some of the fighting scenes at the end of HBP, there’s a lot of pulleys and strange metal contraptions on the raised wooden platforms that were set up in the courtyard. That’s what I assume.

I’ve been already this morning. There were paparazzi peering over the walls at Kings looking at the caravans and cars and stuff! I don’t think they could see much though.

And there’s just so many vehicles and cables and wires and men looking important in their fluorescant yellow jackets.

At least the cathedral area isn’t closed so you can still walk through but obvs the cloisters are shut.

In the courtyard all the frames and stuff look as if they’re for the cameras and lights. I don’t think they’re doing any action scenes. I still don’t inderstand why they need so many extras though. There’s not enough space for them all!

@becca: That’s why I think it’s probably going to be scenes that involve background people. Like maybe it’s going to be the scene in which Harry and Hermione are talking to Hagrid about what he overheard Snape and Dumbledore arguing about and maybe McGonagall comes up instead of Filch. But they could also be filming the scene after Dumbledore dies. Whatever it is they’re going to film, I doubt it’s one scene and I doubt it’s only from one specific part of the movie. They’re going to film all the scenes that they need the cathedral for. So they could be filming something from the beginning, middle, and end of the movie. I JUST WANT TO SEE PICTURES!! Whew, okay I got that out. I’m fine now.

from those pictures Alan sure was there and I heard Maggy and Dan were also there, so far the pictures show a Ron and Draco doubles, those two kids are not Rupert or Tom.

Nice pics! I was so excited when I saw Alan Rickman dressed as Snape, meaning they’re filming him! Yay!

Too bad I’m stuck in boring Cleveland, Ohio, and not in Gloucestershire right now.

I’m sorry-perhaps I’m confused-but when did Ron hurt himself playing Quidditch and need crutches in HBP? Yes, I know he was poisoned and in the hospital wing for a while, but why would he need crutches. Perhaps the crutches are for Draco as an excuse not to play Quidditch and to have more time to work on the Vanishing cabinet?? Hmmm…I don’t know…very curious, though…
