UPDATE: There are two new photos now online, of actor Dan Radcliffe and Rupert Grint departing after completing filming. In addition, the BBC has new video of the filming at the Cathedral, including footage of David Yates (who says filming is going really well) and Alan Rickman departing the set. To watch, click here, then where it says "Watch: Harry Potter Filming."

Location filming continues today for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at Gloucester Cathedral in England. This is Gloucestershire has a new report this morning with some details about yesterday's filming, noting that actors Alan Rickman (Professor Snape), Tom Felton (Draco), Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall), Rupert Grint (Ron) and Dan Radcliffe (Harry) were on set, however actress Emma Watson (Hermione) did not attend the filming. The paper notes that filming was "taking place in two corridors of the Cathedral's cloisters which double up as corridors from Hogwarts School. A blue screen has been erected in the Cathedral's cloisters to help with computer-generated effects which are added later." The report continues:

A quick look behind the scenes by our reporter revealed crew members apparently busy making magical potions ready for filming. The dark and deadly potions were actually made from "Covent Garden" brand soup into bowls, with different food colourings ready to be added. Yesterday the main stars filmed the first scene and in the afternoon 174 local children, (appearing as extras), were brought onto the site.

We have a large collection of photos from the filming at the Cathedral, here in our galleries. If anyone is attending the filming, please send in your reports and photos which we will post. Editors note: We are having some technical issues with our mail server which we hope to have corrected soon, but in the meantime, you can always reach us via the messenger system in the Leaky Lounge or leave a comment . isn’t snape’s hair a bit longer than the one in the other movies? maybe they’re preparing a headbanging session for deathly hallows…

This is just their speculation but in the actual article it mentions some elderly looking witches supposedly and thinks that a part of Dumbledores funeral will be filmed- I hope we get to see that part its kind of relavant isnt it, why would they just have him die and then do nothing.

If they are filming scenes that take place in Hogwarts, and Dan, Tom and Mr. Rickman are there, while Sir Michael Gambon is not… is it possible that they are filming Draco and Snape’s conversation after Slughorn’s party or gasp the Sectumsempra scene?! I wish they did =))))))

y do the extras look so young arent they supposedly 17 or sumtin?

OMG! they’re filming the fight after Dumbledore falls off the tower!

I was thinking the sectumsempra scene too!

It mentions two corridors so maybe after committing the act, draco is taken into the corridor by snape. When he comes back for harry, harry goes to ron to get the book, he comes back to snape in the corridor, snape insults harry or yells and mcgonagal comes or something?

I seriously have no idea

i think it’s apparition lessons! i know they were in the great hall in the book, but they could be in a courtyard for the film. also, you’d need snape, mcgonagal, and draco all there…

We have yet to see a picture of Jim Broadbent in costume.

Snape’s hair is longer in this one, but it was also longer in OotP than in the four previous movies. It’s the length it’s supposed to be now.

Just because particular actors are not there, it does not mean that a particular scene is not being shot. Most scenes are shot with only a couple of the characters there, with the parts for other characters filmed at different times. For example, if Harry & Hermione are having a conversation, most of it will be filmed with Radcliffe doing his lines with someone reading Hermione’s, and Watson reading her lines with someone reading Harry’s.

Also, movies often work on multiple scenes at once. So, this could be any number of different scenes.

Well, it the cloisters are used as the Hogwarts’ corridors, maybe they’re just filming all the corridor scenes.

For example, shots of 174 extras swarming down the corridor between classes, Malfoy prowling the corridor and Snape cornering him to ask him about his plan, Harry dragging Ron down a corridor toward Slughorn’s office after Ron took the love potion, Harry walking down a corridor to one of his meetings with Dumbledore, Harry racing down the corridor in a panic after the Sectumsempra scene, McGonagall taking Harry down a corridor to her office after Dumbledore’s death. Etc.

Also, Lizzie: y do the extras look so young arent they supposedly 17 or sumtin?

Hogwarts is a boarding school comprising students aged 11 to 18. Some of the extras shown were quite young (First and Second Years) and some of them were older (Sixth and Seventh Years). Like that.

Am I the only one that noticed both Rupert and Dan wearing the same coat? Ruperts wearing it in one of the last photos of him in a car with some old guy next to him and Dan’s wearing it walking thru the door that Snapes in and out of. It’s a muggle coat, brown with a plaid hood. Just thought it weird that they both own the exact same coat.

I doubt that there will be many more quality pictures because the security was very tight. Dan, Rupert and Maggie left with umbrellas covering their faces. You couldn’t see anything.

And all because of the darn paparazzi.

The security guy told me that they would have spent loads of time with the fans if the paps hadn’t been there.

They handed out signed pictures at the end!!! Which sort of made up for it.
