We have some more great movie news this morning, as it has now been confirmed that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be shown in IMAX, released the same day as the film opens on November 21, 2008. Also of note to fans is word that sections of the film such as the dramatic events at Hogwarts and the finale of the movie will be shown in 3D, just as parts of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” were shown in IMAX 3D.

Thanks to Coming Soon.net for the heads up!

OH MY GOSH! I hope that I get to watch it in IMAX. I doubt it though. :( Still, I`ll keep my fingers crossed. =)

Actually I saw OotP in several formats, including 3D and non-3D Imax, and the 20 minute 3D scene was great and made perfect sense in all of them. I just hated the silly 3D icon they flashed, especially at the end of the sequnce since it happened while Harry was trying to process the events at the MoM in his dorm.

It was a distraction at an inappropriate time, imo. I feel it might be the same for HBP. sigh Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing the new film in Imax 3D again.

Awesome! I’m way excited. This is just going to be too cool. I dragged my mom to a theater that wasn’t exactly “close” to see it again in IMAX format for the 3D scenes and I thought it was really neat. I can’t wait for it all again.

If you are looking for an IMAX near you, just google IMAX Theaters and it should give you the officially IMAX website. That will hook you up with all of the theaters that it has. I was looking for one myself at the time (I was in New Hampshire, US and there is only one or two in the state which constituted a drive) and I’ll be going back to the site again when HBP comes out (I’ve now moved to Los Angeles).

the hogwarts fight scenes arent that long. Most of the fighting is being done while the DD-draco scene is happening. The only time we see any real fighting is when Harry and Snape are racing down the castle.

I loved the OOTP 3D. When they flew on the threstrals (sp?) it was amazing. I don’t think they had much of that “let’s point this at the screen so it will come out at you” tricks at all. Also, whoever said to get seats dead center and as high as you can is correct. If you get seats down low it is a totally different experience. Also, whoever said to make sure you IMAX shows 3D is correct also. I have 3 IMAX theaters within 20 minutes from me but 1 was not capable of showing the 3D version.

Actually there’s an IMAX in Barcelona but they only showed PoA and missed out OotP!! I don’t understand! It would have been very succesful! I hope they’re showing one 3D copy for Barcelona’s IMAX!

I saw OotP in 3D in Birmingham, England. The sound quality was definitely superior to our usual cinema, so that was a bonus.

I just LOVED the OotP Imax. I felt just like I entered the movie, I was in the front row and it was like standing in the ministry facing an extreemly imposing Lucious Malfoy. Whew! Problem was, that was the first time I saw it (had to drive 2 hours) every other viewing (at my local cinema and on DVD just couldn’t compare. Overall though, I will do it again for sure:)

Well, it’s always good to get news about the HBP movie, but I have to admit, I’m getting antsy for something a little bigger and meatier. You know, like hi-res images, or maybe even a teaser trailer. They’ve been filming since last September (or was it October?), so surely the WB must have enough on film by now to give us something. Right?

I know, I know, I’m being impatient and ungrateful. But still… as nice as it is to know that HBP will be shown in Imax and 3-D, it would be a lot more exciting if we could get some pictures of what we’ll actually be SEEING in Imax and 3-D!

::goes back to trying to be patient::
