"Twilight" Author Stephenie Meyer Talks J. K. Rowling

In a new interview on MTV.com Stephenie Meyer, the author of the popular “Twilight” novels, discusses Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling along with the similarities she finds between the “Twilight” and “Harry Potter” series. While Mrs. Meyer notes she has not yet had the opportunity to meet her fellow author, she does say she “would love to sit down and talk with her.” She continues, noting the fact that while both series are hugely popular among younger readers, comparing one series to the other is something she finds difficult to do. She states:

“The interesting thing about the comparison is that I think you can compare my fans to her fans more easily [than me to her]. I do think that we both have people who are just really really enthusiastic, and will come miles to see you and be involved, and everybody really cares about our characters. But the [’Harry Potter’ and ‘Twilight’] stories are just so different.”

“J.K. Rowling’s audience is everybody, so that means we all have a piece of her audience,” Meyer laughed. “It’s terribly flattering to be compared to her, but there’s never going to be another J.K. Rowling; that’s a phenomenon that’s not gonna happen again.”

Finally, Mrs. Meyer goes on to talk more on topics she would like to speak with J. K. Rowling about if given the opportunity, including Jo’s thoughts of the Harry Potter films, her fans, and her experience of being a popular writer. As readers will remember, actor Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory) has been cast as leading man Edward Cullen in the upcoming “Twilight” film. All three previously released novels in the “Twilight” series are available for purchase in our Cauldron Shop.

Im sorry i commented so harshly towards you Anon, so sorry. I have never continued reading a book that i didnt like, because if i dont like it , it’s painful to read, so painful, so i just put it down and walk away. I know that Bella was stupid (really stupid) for nearly accidently killing herself just so she could hear his voice again, but i really felt her pain during the book and her wanting to see him again (even if she got hurt) and im not saying that that’s a good thing but I’m not sure if he sets a bad example for people…well some people, because i’m not sure if some people experience romance like that, where the cant touch or else someone might get hurt.

Meh, I don’t like my last comment:

I have a lot of respect for Stephanie Meyer- her series is successful for a reason, and it appeals to a large number of people, including myself, but she’s right- HP and Twilight can’t be compared. They should live happily in harmony. :)

I dont care what anyone says, Twilight is a good ass book. Stephenie Meyer is an awesome writer, comparing her to JK Rowling is a little ridiculous though because both books have two different tones and they are just completley differenet stories in general. JK is so amazing with her works that Stephenie Meyer might never get her amount of recognition but i still think that they are both great books done by great people who do their best to capture their audiences imagination.

Bella is one of the worst female characters I’ve ever come across.

Long live Stephanie Meyer. Not only is she an incredible author and one of an incredible series, but her comments about Jo are completely humble and honest. Everything she mentioned in those quotes is legitimate and I’m glad she approached those questions in that way.

At first, I thought Twilight seemed very ridiculous. Vampires seemed ludicrous next to wizards, but I strongly recommend it to anyone who has not read it and enjoys romance. Definitely one of the best books I’ve read since Harry Potter, and that is saying something.

My daughter is crazy about Stephanie Meyer’s books. She is not allowed to discuss them around me, because I won’t read them until all of them are out. The good news is that we actually have the chance to see her because she has ties to a large city near us. I hope to get tickets for my daughter’s birthday. They are the new hot books at a youth half-way house I help at too. They have been big there for a couple of years now. For me, Harry Potter will always be my favorite. They kept me going when my son was spelunking in Afghanistan.

No way Twilight is similar to Harry Potter and no way it’s gonna be like Harry Potter. Seriously, Twilight is overrated.

I’ll have to admit. Though I love the Twilight series….the writing is not nearly as comparable to J.K Rowlings. I think the plot and the characters in Twilight is the only thing that makes me keep reading the series.

cool! Ms Meyer sounds like a nice lady. Saying their’s no-one as phenonen as J.K Rowling. She sounds amazing. ( both J.k Rowling and Stephenie Meyer) i wish i’d be able to write a great novel as them. I myself really enjoyed the Harry Potter series. They’re my favourite in the whole entire UNIVERSE! How i wish i can go to HOGWARTS!!! ( sometimes i wonder if there is a wizarding world. )

not just J.K rowling is great! though it must seem so too. But i reckon that Twilight trilogy is really popular too. I’ve reserved a copy of it at the start of Term 1 of school and so-far, the last person borrowing it just doesn’t want to hand it over! It’s term 2 already! LOL. _ I heard it’s really good.

i’m also planning to buy the HP series. what do u think? ( i noe no-one’s going to reply)

How dare they even compare them? SM is nothing compared to Jo, SM is a great author, but no one can be compared to Jo. i’m glad SM recognises that she won’t be the next jo rowling.

twlight is a novel for shallow teenage girls who want to be popular with the boys. I read it and it was an huge disappointment, it’s just so cheesy and shallow, and there are way to long description fo how the boys that want bella are super-hot, amazingly-handsome, dazzling and shiny…. I am a teenage girl, but Istill thought it was worse than a Mary-sue fanfiction.
