Here is a rough translation of our conversation tonight. . . The Spanish is very rough since I never learned it (I will someday!!) but have had some exposure to it, so it’s 10% what I get and 90% putting together info from an online dictionary (MM hope you don’t mind!!) From page 9:

MM:

Hola amigas! Como estan?

Hello friends! How are you?

Hoy estoy muy cansada, trabaje mucho porque faltaron

Today I was very tired, tired because of absence of

dos de mis compañeras de trabajo.

two of my coworkers.

Me duele la cabeza.

My head hurts.

Me:

Bitte, nicht so lange Worter benutzen! [German]

Please, don’t use such long words!

lo siente por.

Sorry about it

Hier ist ein MMargarita, aber vielleicht es Deine Kopf mehr schmerz macht? [German]

Here is an MMargarita, but perhaps that will make your head hurt more?

Vielleicht ein Tasse Tee wird besser? [German]

Perhaps a cup of tea would be better?

es su trabajo muy ocupada?

Is it very busy at work?

MM:

Si estube muy ocupada en mi trabajo.

Yes it is very busy at my work.

Necesitaba mas manos y cabezas.

[I] need more hands and heads

Quizas como un octopus.

Perhaps like an octopus

Oops…disappeared for a while…I was trying to finish up work, but the system always seems to go down between 10 and 11 (maybe they’re trying to tell me not to leave the work so late!) lol

I’m going to try to catch up on a few more posts at CC before I call it a night.

I wasn’t talking about you guys just so you know, I was talking baout how everything is repeated in spanish on boxes and at theme parks and how grocery store isles are in spanish. I just think it’s stupid because our language is english. I mean I know there isn’t an official language. I don’t know, it just bugs me.

Bookworm Jen

Oops, apparently I can’t type my email today! :)

Around me there is a huge Portuguese population, so I see a lot more of that than Spanish (though I know they’re supposed to be similar)

Ella, you will NOT get an argument from me!... However, fact of the matter is, the world is becoming more and more homogenous, and language will be doing so as well… it’s just the way human nature goes…
