Beware that our comments may contain spoilers for the seventh and final Harry Potter book!

Good Monday morning to you all. Watched GOF on Sat. Hoped we might get a pre-view. No joy. I guess I can wait for TLC to have something. Will catch up and post more later.

Good morning, all! I hope everyone’s Monday is off to at least a decent start. I stayed up way too late again reading Twilight and yes, there are a few scenes in there giving me the heebie jeebies, but so far I can handle it. I mean I read Salem’s Lot when I was in high school and anyone who can get through that should be able to read any other vampire story in the history of vampire stories without any trouble, really. But still…
PB I totally sympathize with you on the A/C. My parents were similar to your Grandpa’s wife. We lived in the high desert (up to 120 at midday during extreme years in the summer, 112 was pretty normal) and they would run it some during the day, but at night they would shut it off to “conserve energy” and open all the windows to the roasting hot wind all night long. The only way I could sleep was to wear the good ol’ birthday suit and put wet washcloths all over my body. Seriously. It helped a little Not a lot, but a little. If you have a fan and try to sleep that way it helps even more. Or if you can’t quite bring yourself to try that, you can at least put some ice wrapped in a wet washcloth on your wrists, inner elbows, sides of the neck, etc., your major pulse points. It is not quite as effective but it does help to cool you down. Good luck.
LadyHawke I have never heard that rule about the ten degree difference from inside to outside either, I wonder if that is a UK thing? Like you, I grew up with the 68 and 72 degree rules, although my parents took things to extremes a bit (as you can see from what I said to PB.) In the winter they are known to put the thermostat at 58 or 60 when they go to bed. That part doesn’t bother me so much as I prefer a cool room, even in winter, with lots of blankets to snuggle up under. In summer they put it at 78 so it never does cool down thorooughly, even during the day when they run the dang thing, as much as I would like. But since I don’t have A/C at all now, I have learned not to complain about it too much when we visit them.
BWJen have a great time at dinner! I hope you start to feel more consistently rested soon.
I hope you are having a great day, Ginny! It is always so nice to check in and see your cheerful “good mornings” to everyone. :)
Graymayne I knew what My Boy Jack was about, and had actually already seen the very end (as LadyHawke mentioned) and had been upset by it the first time. It just was so much worse after having watched the whole thing and getting to know the characters (I was not familiar with Rudyard Kipling’s personal story before hearing about it from Wolfie, you and others here), feeling their pain. I am always emotional at sad movies, I even cried my eyes out during Disney’s Lilo & Stitch when Stitch is looking for his family (much to my kids embarrassment!) I can’t help it.
There are some movies that I just love, despite their being tear jerkers, and will watch more than once, especially if I am in the mood for a good cry, like Steel Magnolias or Step Mom or things like that. In general, though, I do tend to avoid very sad films just because I know what an emotional wreck they make me and who needs that on a regular basis? I probably would not have watched My Boy Jack for that reason, except for Daniel being in it. LemonPrincess is just like me, if not worse since she is younger and hasn’t developed my “mature” tiny bit of control, LOL. At least she understands, the rest of the family just roll their eyes. sigh
LadyHawke I do not think you sounded awful, I think it is wonderful that you finally had one weekend with no errands for your parents, and am glad you had something fun and interesting to go do and enjoy with your family. You have gone above and beyond over the last many months and deserve a break more than anyone I know. Don’t be so hard on yourself! I hope the next few days go smoothly with the appointments and everything. I am keeping the prayers and healing energy going your way. {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}
Sirius B good to see you on a Monday morning! I TOLD you OoTP would be better a second time through! LOL Although as often as I have watched OoTP there are times when I still flip back and forth from being as outraged as I was the first time I saw it and the more accepting, even enthusiastic viewings that came later. I don’t really know where to lay the majority of the blame for the choppiness or what was left out. Was it Kloves not being there (because while I think he has done an OK job, I would argue he has made his own fair share of mistakes with the scripts) or was it Yates or a combo of Yates and the new screenwriter or what? OoTP is my favorite of the books (now tied with DH) so I had probably unreasonably high expectations/hopes for the movie. They would have had to split it in two like DH to get everything in there. I do think Yates got the best performances out of the trio so far, so that is one big thing in his favor going forward.
The thing that does make me hopeful for HBP is that personally I think it is probably the easiest of all the books to condense for film. There are a few key scenes that if they get wrong, or even worse leave out entirely, will absolutely ruin it, but other than that they can get the feel of the book and the majority of the themes in there without having to sacrifice too much. I believe that is why they have been able to resurrect Quidditch and things like that, because they are finding TIME to do it right. I HOPE. I also hope that the lack of set pics and trailers thus far is indicative of a great movie as it seems like the better the film, the less we see of it ahead of time. (That is part of a rule my DS has always lived by, being from the film industry: the longer the trailer, the worse the movie.) Let’s hope that is what it is, anyway! That doesn’t stop me from chomping at the bit for movie news, though. If we go through all of May without the teaser trailer I may tear my hair out!
I have the most hope of all for DH. Since they are going to make it two movies, I am pinning those hopes on them taking more care than they ever have with any of the films to make sure they get it absolutely, positively 1000000% right on and do not leave anything out. It is going to be a long, painful wait for that one.
On that note, I need to scurry for now. Since the DS is in his office today he wants to meet for lunch, which means I better get cracking around here before that. :) I will BBL, have a good rest of the morning/afternoon! XOXOXOX

Hey, Rhiannon looks like I just missed you. Hope you have a good day! See you later on! :)

Lemon- I am having a good so far!! How about you??

OH NO LEMON!!!! I just got a paypll message and STUPIDLY I opened it I COMPLETELY forgot about what you said. Not to mention I DON’T even HAVE paypal AND they spelled it wrong. How stupid can I be? I jsut get sucked into those dumb spam messages! I might have just killed Ani! Nooooo!
bbl

Afternoon Everybody!!!! Well I watched GOF on Saturday night also, but there were no showings of any scenes or info regarding HBP, but I had fun watching it anyway!!!!!!!

Lemon Good morning! Sorry to hear that MBJ made you cry. I told you I had nightmares.
Sirius B OOP is better with each viewing. I like to slow it down during the memory sequences so you can really appreciate what is there. And they can’t get every detail in a 2 hour movie. That is what the books are for.

GAWD but it’s good to be home… I usually don’t fly in weather like this, but I was already one day behind schedule… Well, that is what I paid the big $$$ for… Having the instrument panel upgraded to a state of the art “glass cockpit”. Basically, I could paint the windshield black and still get to where I was going!!! Hi there Ella… PLEASE be careful, there are scammers everywhere! Hi Mistic…. I missed the show… The hotel where I was staying did not have any American programming… Too bad… But that’s what DVD’s are for… I hope everyone is well… I must go and pick up my parrot from the boarder’s… BBL… CHEERS…

HIGH WINDS KNOCKED DOWN MY CABLE AND I BELIEVE MY PHONE SERVICE BECAUSE I HAVE NO PHONE. WHICH MEANS HORROR OF ALL HORRORS…..... NO INTERNET!!!
My DS is working furiously to get it back up but I don’t know when. I am cancelling the Jeopardy for tonight but I am hoping that everything will be back up by tomorrow.

Please send all your fixing charms to my home! I wanted to play Jeopardy today!
BTW – Lemon I really enjoy doing the games, it gives me great pleasure.
Having said that, any day that you want to set up a game day, you would not step on any of my toes….Just say when and where and I would love to play!!! Just don’t mind me when I set them up. I really like it when you guys play and I moderate. :)

HI! ALL!: If I suddenly go POOF! it’s not my fault. Having wireless problems.
MISTRESS LEAMONFARIE Had a nice dinner, thanks . Basic meat and potatoes at a friends house.
HUFFLEBUG; I have decided to name my avatar doggie BIRDY. I feel it fits him well.
DEANIE; Bowser is a GREAT name for a cat!. I will get some nutella and try it the next time I go shopping.
GRAYMAYNE; Thank you!. As you have noticed from the posts I am getting a lot of help from the good people here.

Minerva Sorry to hear about your technical difficulties. Sending a huge Glitch Repelling Charm your way. And here I played Scene-It last night to prep for jeopardy. We’ll do it another time.
ironsos Good to see you again.

Hi, everyone!
It’s a traumatic night in the asti household. The DS and son are watching a soccer match, which will basically decide if their team stays in the league, or goes down to a lower one. Which would not be good. I am being a Supportive Wife by wearing the team shirt my son bought me for Christmas. (Well, the DS bought it for my son to give to me, thus ensuring I am Forced By Guilt to wear it otherwise my son will be upset.) The good news is their team is not losing yet. The bad news is they probably soon will be. And I’d better hit “post” fast, before they realise I typed that, lol!!!

RHIANNON: Thanks!. Still learning who everyone is. Feels nice to be said hi to.
ASTI My wife used to hate the fact that I was (and still am) an American Football nut.She used to call me her DS, but for some reason she did not use the same words that those here do.

On-my-way-to-lunch BUT had-to-check-here-first post! :)
Ella OMG! I know, that is scary, but try not to panic. As long as you did not click on any of the links or open any attachments it should be OK. Deep breaths, hon.
Glad you are home safely, Won_Two!!!
Rhiannon I know, I should have listened to you, LOL. sigh But you know I had to watch it with out boy in there. :)
Ginny I am doing good, ready for lunch with the DS. He will probably call any second now to tell me to get off Leaky and come pick him up, LOL. I am trying to hurry!
Madame Minerva that is serious, indeed! I am sending the strongest Fix It spell I can produce and also an anti-Nargle jinx, just in case. (Good to know, also, about the games, I am glad you enjoy it so much because we sure all do enjoy it as you do such a great job, I just didn’t want you to fee like you HAD to. :) ) I hope the internet/electricity/cable/phones are all sorted out ASAP! Try not to panic! Deep breaths!!! {{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}
Hi, Ironsos, I hope you are having a good day! IN case you were wondering about the games we are talking about, Madame Minerva and Hufflebug often host “Game Night” at the castle where we play Harry Potter inspired versions of Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune, etc. Everyone is welcome to join in and play, we usually play for our House teams so you would just have to declare your House ahead of time and you would be good to go. I’m a Gryffindor, Huff is in Hufflepuff, Madame M is in Ravenclaw, etc. Either CoolG or Ella have the full list. If you have been sorted into a particular House before that is great (although even here, certain people who HAVE been sorted will choose to play for another House to even out the number of players or because they are in the habit of deserting their own House in favor of pretty girls, people who shall remain nameless cough PotterBoy cough for instance who, though they were sorted into Gryffindor often choose to play for Slytherin, eh-hemm….) In any case, if you are interested in being “officially” sorted, someone here will be able to give you the website to go to, I can’t remember it myself, or feel free to pick the House you feel the most affinity for, and join us, it’s fun! :)
asti you are a true and loyal wife and mother. I will be thinking of you! LOL
OK, phone is ringing, have to go!!! BBL

Oh, whoops, I was really going to run but just saw Ironsos’s latest post. You are a football nut??? This is your natural home! LOL Don’t say it too loudly around certain people, but there are plenty of us football nuts right here in the Castle and we will LOVE to discuss, dissect, lament over or celebrate football season with you! Unless you say you are a Dallas Cowboys fan or the Denver Broncos, in which case I will have to have you forcibly removed from the Castle. Oh, I mean, um…oops, did I say that out loud? Sorry Sirius B, Madame M, Ginny, et al! LOLOLOL You know I was kidding and I love you guys despite your horrible, I mean, uh, interesting choice in football teams. :) Speaking of… did anyone watch the draft last weekend? I missed it but checked some things out online afterwards and found it very interesting that Green Bay went so high up for a backup quarterback, and even a third string guy. Makes me think they are finally realizing what we fans have known for a LONG time now, they are in big trouble without Brett and Aaron Rodgers is NOT going to be the team savior they might have been hoping for. Should be interesting. Sirius B what do you think of the new guy’s stats?
Oh, no, now see what you did, Ironsos, you got me talking football, now we are BOTH going to be in trouble. They thought they had a small reprieve between now and pre-season. :)
OK, now I really have to go or my DS may not buy me lunch. BBL!!!!

Lemon, hahahaha!! The things I have to go through for sport! At least our son is old enough now to stay up and watch with the DS, I used to feel I had to be Supportive and watch it with him to keep him company. Now I just look up occasionally and say “yippee,” or (more and more) “oh dear, never mind!”
Have a nice lunch! I think it’s a nice treat to spend time with your DS without any children, enjoy!!
Ironsos, I am trying to think what DS could stand for in your wife’s meaning! Am I being dense? (Quite probably!!) My DS and son are big fans of UK soccer (I’m a Brit, btw, or to be nationalistic, I’m mostly Welsh, did someone mention rugby??? Now there is a sport!!) They are also big fans of New England, my DS got into it at an early age, and follow them as closely as he can. I was A Very Nice Person a few weeks ago, and bought him a shirt, so he is all geared up for when it all starts again!

HEADMISTRES LEAMONFARIE: Thanks about me joining in the games but I am very slow with my posting speed. I will join in at some time but would not want HUFFLEPUFF to not win.
I cannot think of a reason that I would not be sorted into HUFFLEPUFF so that is where I would like to be.
My favorite football teams are Ohio State,(born and raised in Columbus Ohio in the Woody Hayes era), and the New Orleans Saints.

ASTI: DS means Dipstick. It is an American term meaning dumb. But in a nice way.

Hip hip horray Alexi posted – (I was wondering about you this weekend) and withan attitute and a rant – you go girl! I agree with you 100%
Ironsos – I can forgive you for being a fan of the Ain’ts but ohio state?? how could you possibly like them? they are the worst college team ever – cry baby cheating rats – (BTW I’m a Dallas Cowboys and Arizona State University fan when it comes to football and can NEVER forgive ohio stote for beating ASU in the 97 Rosebowl) ??lol
LemonFarrie – who’s stats are you talking about – I don’t get cable TV so did not see the draft or go online – so who? and what stats? thank you
bbw

Ironsos, thanks! That is an expression that was popular here a while ago, but I don’t think is used much anymore. I’m glad your wife means it in a nice way! My fave expression for my DS (esp when he is watching sport!) is to call him “a poor sad man” but he knows I mean it with a lot of love!!
Have to let you all know, DS’s team has just taken the lead. I have two very excited people leaping around the living room. There are 10 minutes to go in the game. Please keep all your fingers crossed for them! I care, because they care!!

Hi, just a random question: is it “victory against another country” or “victory over”???
Thanks for helping.

Oooh, hi Sirius!
Have the trolls backed off a bit?
I hope to see Alexi again soon, too. I have missed her posts.

Sirius B. : Sadly I have to somewhat agree but only a little bit agree about my BUCKEYES. They seem lately beat 12 patsies(including that team up north), and when they meet a good team in a bowl game they are slow as molasses.
I am new here and do not want to get into trouble so I’ll stop talking football for now

forgetmenot, I would go with “victory over”.
I didn’t see an Alexi post. I’m confused.

Hi, forgetmenot.
I would say “victory over another country” but “a win against another country.”
Incidentally, the opposing team have just equalised. This is not good. The DS and son really need a win against this team, lol!!!

Thanks a lot Laura, I need that for a translation and wasn’t sure at all!!!

Lol, Asti and thanks! That confirms it. And my sympathies to your DS, lol. I know how nerve racking such games can be.

LadyHawke Ah thanks, that was very interesting information about the recommended indoor temperatures. I would say with confidence that the majority of people in the UK only experience air conditioning in shops and public buildings and cinemas. (In the Summer I often find the cinemas too cool so I take a wrap just in case). Our Summers rarely reach the 90 degree mark and then only briefly and our heatwaves are often delivered in short bursts followed by thunderstorms. There are occasional patches when the air temperature is high and there is no wind, so then we get the portable electric fans out of storage.
Ironsos You really do have a quirky sense of humour. It would never occur to me to call a dog Birdy, lol!
Ginny Weasley It would seem that you have put your bad patch behind you, excellent:)
Miss Austen Regrets I promised a report on this BBC production. The mood and treatment was very different from the film starring Ann Hathaway which was more glamorous and upbeat. This latest offering was very well done and interesting but ultimately rather sad. I was left feeling that she had guilt feelings about turning down an offer of marriage which would have ensured financial security for her family, but it would have been without love on her part. The piece covers the later part of her life, and she dies off screen, so not a cheerful offering on the whole. It felt a lot nearer the truth of the matter, but as I have not studied her life I can’t say that with any authority. A lot of her letters were burned by her sister, Cassandra, so maybe there is not enough evidence to make an accurate judgment. It was nice to know that she was held in high esteem during her lifetime, so that would have been gratifying, but the financial rewards, it would seem, were meagre.
I must get back to “The Thirteenth Tale” which is proving to be most unusual…....

FORGETMENOT I am thinking I would be victory aganist in a conflict and over in something like a sport.

The soccer game was a draw. This was not a good result, they needed a win. DS and son are a bit depressed.

Asti Perhaps emergency chocolate rations should be brought out!

Sending over chocolate footballs with brandy centers….

Graymayne and Won_Two, thankyou! DS says do the Brandy Chocolates come in pint size?? He is a leeetle bit unhappy.

Awwww man I missed asti and forgetmenot!!!! :( Hope you both have a good night!!!
Still at work but wrapping up. I need some tea. :)
Will catch up later!!!
BBL…

But how stupid could that be? I was just tiredly sifting through my emails. They claimed someone hacked into my account and I should login or something. ‘Hijacked by a third party’ I think the term was. I DON’T EVEN HAVE AN ACCOUNT! sigh I wish I thought more often it really can be a useful habit..

Good night, Asit and forgetmenot.
Hi Huff and Ella.
I’ve been online so infrequently lately I keep forgetting about refreshing as I get distracted by other things…

That’s a good idea, Ella.
Won_Two, I like football (real football, not the European pansy stuff) and brandy, can I have some chocolates, too, please??

Absolutely, Laura… And to answer Asti’s query… These have been augmented with a vectoring charm so you can use the “Engorgio” spell and make them as large as you like… However, I should warn you that the complex Flavonoid molecules in the brandy start to go “non-linear” after you enlarge them past 1/3 meter or so in diameter… In other words they start to taste like frogs! Cheers…

Greymayne I am glad you are reading The 13th Tale. Let me know what you think. I really enjoyed it. I just finished The Historian which BWJen had suggested. It was really interesting as well. I haven’t started a new book yet. I still havee Beowulf at home and a book a patient loaned me. I think the loaner may win out again.
ironsos Don’t be afraid to post about football. We had some lively discussions during the playoffs. Lemonfaerie and I are big Green Bay fans although I don’t claim to know much about college ball. I found the telecast stuff on the draft, just plain boring. It was like watching golf.

Hey everybody,
I know I haven’t been on much. Still pouting from that fiasco they called a fine-needle biopsy last week. Well the results are back.. We still don’t know if it is benign or malignant. We do know that it is follicular in nature and has been labeled “suspicious”. So next Tues(May 6) I get to have surgery. They will remove the right side of my thyroid, biopsy it, and depending on results remove the rest of it. FUN FUN!!!(note the highly sarcastic tone of voice). I will go try to catch up on reading but do not know if I will be able to post again tonight. BYE YA’LL
