Lady Hawke

We’re just back from dinner with Deanie and Mr. Deanie.

I told Deanie after dinner that I had actually had some moments of panic after the decision was made to try to meet. The idea of actually coming face to face with any of you guys was a bit sobering. What if I couldn’t think of anything to say or what if we just didn’t have anything in common or just didn’t like each other in person.

I feel much better now and am much more confident about trying it again. I told Lemon when she was meeting Rhiannon that I would take the opportunity to meet someone in a flash if I was given the chance. I also told her I would be scared to death and I was.

But Deanie and Mr. Deanie were lovely and friendly and very comfortable to be with. We talked a lot about all sorts of things that had nothing to do with HP. We all shed some tears over our long lost beloved dogs. I don’t think you can fail to bond a little when you can cry over your lost furry loved ones together.

My daughter went with me but we left the DS at home chilled to the bone. The DS and daughter had been working in the yard all day. It was supposed to have gone up into the 70s today but never made it out of the lower to middle 60s and the wind was blowing. By the time he came in for lunch he was freezing and the bowl of soup and hot chocolate I gave him for lunch didn’t thaw him out. He even climbed into bed for awhile to try to get warm but had to go back out again to finish up what he had started. I think the fact that the windows are up and the outside air is coming in could have some baring on why he is finding it difficult to thaw out.

By the time Deanie called he had worked up a full head of misery again. So, my daughter ran inside and took a less than efficient shower and off we went to dinner. I was still wiping mud off her as we walked into the hotel.

By the time we returned home he had found himself some dinner and was all bundled up watching a movie.

I’m sorry he didn’t get to go. I am certain he would have really liked Mr. Deanie. They are both from the same branch of the service and are both readers of science fiction.

Neither Deanie or I could come up with our digital cameras. I haven’t seen mine since we went on the dig last weekend. I didn’t take it out of the van at the dig site so it is wherever I deposited it when we came in loaded down when we got home.

I did have a disposable camera on hand, left over from my daughter’s birthday in the fall. So, our photography was done by an 8 year old who we had to remind not to put her finger in front of the lens. None of us may have heads when the pictures are developed. Our only other option was trying to get a waiter to take our photos and there was a decided lack of English being spoken by our wait staff. My daughter seemed to be our best option.

As long as it gets fully open before I move to the wilds of Oklahoma in 2014, maybe we can work something out. ;)

DS is watching NASCAR and I’m waiting for my pain pills to kick in. I have pain in my upper sciatic region. I don’t know if it was the hotel bed or the car seat, but something doesn’t agree with my back. ;)

I will be so happy to get back to my Select Comfort bed! We bought it before they came up with the “sleep number” concept. We each just adjust our side so it feels good. ;)

I have it!!

Whoever lives farthest away will rent a bus and, as they travel toward Disney World, they can collect everyone who can travel to intercept them. Or they can meander around to collect people. We may need the two or three people farthest away to each rent a bus. Then we can visit all the way down, rendevous at a prearranged place and PARTY!!!! ;)

Of course we would all pay for the bus(ses). ;)

It’s Saturday night. Where is everyone? ;)

Little Hawke had a bunch of HP questions, but the one she could not wait to ask was about Peeves. I don’t think my explanaition that Peeves was not really a ghost in the same sense as the Bloody Barron or Nick are went over too well.

How do you explain teen angst to a child that young, who has never witnessed or experienced it?

I think Peeves is a personification of over a thousand years of teen angst and other emotions. Not the noble emotions either.

I believe that Jo said in an interview that he was not a proper ghost as he had never been a living person.

Since the paranormal “experts” seem to be of the opinion that many poltergeist phenomena are associated with girls who are entering puberty, the angst explanation seems to fit. At least in my mind, but we know I’m not always firing on all cylinders. ;)

At any rate, it gives the family another perspective for those questions. ;)

Sure! What are you planning to study at university? I am sure at least one of us lives near a university that has an excellent program in whatever it is. ;)

I live close enough to Georgia Tech that you could live with me while you were a student there. If you are interested in what they offer. Check them out on Wikipedia or google it.

Well I am now watching the British Sitcoms, Faulty Towers, and then I will be watching Dr Who. It has been so stuffy and humid inside today, I was out for a little while this morning, and went to visit my sister in St Mary’s County, I thought it was suppose to rain and some thunder storms tonight, if it does, I hope it will cool things off a bit. Good Night Everyone!!!!bbt

Laura and Herbert! Hello. ;)

Isn’t Sunday for being virtuous? You can study tomorrow. ;)

Harriett, By the time I retire in late 2014, you will be 20. Check out Cameron University in Lawton Oklahoma on Wikipedia or their website. Maybe they offer a program you will be interested in. ;)

As long as you don’t take or smoke drugs, you will be welcome to live with me while attending university. That is a serious offer. ;)

Cameron isn’t very bigand Lawton is not very big either. That is one reason we plan to retire there. ;)

There are also a lot of “Community Colleges” that offer only the first two years of university studies. Students can then transfer the credit hours to a four year school to finish off their bachelors degree.

The two year degree is usually called an associates degree. And many employers really only require an associates degree, if you are planning to get the bachelors by going to school part time while working. Many employers even have a fund set up to assist in paying for your schooling while doing just that. ;)

Oh, E. S., If you should pop in, you are included in the offer. ;)

At least you would know that I value each of you for yourselves. I am not your parent or grandparent and I only want each of you to be the best “you” not a copy of a relative or to fulfill my thwarted dreams. I promise not to act as a “stage mother” stereotype. ;)

I am now off to try and sleep. ;)

Goodnight. ;)

Hello Everyone

Sorry I didn’t make the game this afternoon. The D/S came home early and we worked on our camper. We no longer have any bunks in it. We are ready to build our bed frame. It is no longer claustaphic (sp) in the bedrooms at least. Lol I should have said bedroom because we removed a wall to make two into one larger one.

I did find a bolt of material that I can make my new curtains from. I didn’t know if it would look right because it is a check material but it look good with everything else.

Welcome to Paul C. We now have a male member across the pond so I guess I can no longer just say the Ladies Across the Pond Lol.

Once again good questions MM.

Nascar Race I knew when there was a caution with so few laps to go, that Bush would wreck Jr. trying to win. He did!!!! At least he didn’t win. Bowyer did. Isn’t he your man Vswift?

So glad that Deanie and Lady Hawke got to meet.

Hello, all! I am completely exhausted and not catching up until tomorrow. I saw brief mentions of new members (welcome!) and VERY EXCITING get togethers!! LadyHawke and Deanie I am SO happy and SO jealous that you guys got together. That is awesome, I cannot wait for the pics (heads included or not, LOL) This just gives me shivers and chills when our members get together in the “real world!” Very, very cool. Rhiannon and I are hoping to turn ours into a regular event. I love it! :)

“Whoever lives farthest away will rent a bus and, as they travel toward Disney World, they can collect everyone who can travel to intercept them. Posted by Deanie on May 03, 2008 @ 10:40 PM”

I think that would be me, Rhiannon and Margo, at least within the States, you can’t get much farther from Orlando than WA state and still be in the continental US! (I think LunaAloha would have a really hard time driving that bus over from Hawaii…) :) SO: we will swing down to CA to pick up PB and Mollywobbles and other CA members, grab LunaAloha and Harriett and anyone else who wants to fly in there from LAX and be on our way east! Everyone from across the Pond can fly into JFK and we’ll work them into the trip on the way down. I used to be a travel agent (a loooooooong time ago) so I will brush off my old trip planners and get to work on it! WHOOOOOOHOOOOOOO, PARTY!!!!

See you all tomorrow, I will catch up then. I am not even going to ask who won the game. sigh :)~

A good Sunday to all! Cool G, I am not upset with Bush because that is the way he drives…. he will wreck anyone who is keeping him from a win! What really irks me is that Hamlin stayed out there on a flat tire, then brought out a caution by purposely stopping on the track when his car could still go… THAT, is a clear violation of NASCAR rules, and I hope they throw the book at him for it! If he had pitted when he should have, Jr would have won the race…. It’s that simple… So he not only lost his chance at a win, but took away Jr’s as well with his bad move, and worse decision making…. He needs a good NASCAR “spanking”... So does Mikey Waltrip… I mean really!!!! Pushing a guy down the track like that! lol lol….

Hi Guys

Back from my trip to Barcelona, I arrived back home in the early hours of Saturday morning, but due to a miscommunication with a friend I somehow arranged for a number of people to come round for a meal last night. What I actually said was ‘when I get back from Barcelona I will cook a meal for everyone to celebrate my MSc’, what my friend actually heard was ‘the day I arrive back from Barcelona I’ll invite you all round for a meal’ – so I spent yesterday in a big panic of shopping and cooking, we had a lovely evening though and I have a slight headache today (obviously caused by lack of sleep and lots of travelling rather than the 3 beers and bottle of wine I drank yesterday :-)

Barcelona was great, it was absolutely beautiful and I have loads of pictures – my feet still hurt from all of the sightseeing, my sister and I must have walked miles.

Sorry I missed the jeopardy game, I was going to send elmo as my substitute, but I thought he would probably put you all to shame by answering all the questions first and who wants to be beaten by an oranutan?

ladyhawke, deanie and mr deanie I am so pleased that you were able to meet up and it sounds like you had fun.

and I see another boy has joined us and he is from the UK whooo hooooo hi Paul c

Hi all!

Well, I typed out a lovely long post (sort of Lemon length,) chatting away to everyone about everything. Pressed post, and, AGAIN, the computer decides to totally lose connection, and it’s all gone “pooooof!” It has been completely unreliable for about a week now, if it can connect at all, it is on a go slow.

Luckily, we have a tame computer expert who can hopefully suggest a few solutions without us having to pay out any money, but something is definitely not right!

Anyway…....

Deanie and Lady Hawke, I’m so glad you got to meet and have a good time! And I would be so nervous too!

Wolfie, unlucky about the meal. (Not giggling at all!) I think excess alcohol in that situation is warranted, don’t you? I’m pleased you and your sister had a great time.

Hi everyone!!!!!

Right, let’s see if this infernal machine is going to co operate….....if not, I am going to sulk.

Hey won Two you managed to hit on the only thing that wasnt good about Barcelona – the Tapas! I think we just had a bit of bad luck with our choice of Tapas Bar. We visited a small town close to Barcelona called Girona. My sister and I decided to have tapas and had THE most awful meal. I was still feeling a bit queasy the next day, in particular the Patatas Bravas stuck in my memory as really awful, so my sister thought it was hilarious the next day to try and insert the words ‘Patatas Bravas’ into as many conversations as possible just to watch me go green :-) we did have lots of other nice food though, on our first night we had a particularly nice vegetarian paella and the wine was great (and very cheap).

Hey laura dont mention that mangy bird to me. I’ve just had a look through my holiday photos and …......

Photo number 1 – Herbert in a speedo (aaargh – my eyes are bleeding) playing volleyball on a Barcelona beach with my little Elmo.

Photo number 2 – Herbert forcing my sweet little Elmo to drink a whole pitcher of Sangria at a Barcelona bar.

photo number 3 – Herbert and Elmo dancing on the tables of said barcelona bar surrounded by empty pitchers of Sangria.

Photo number 4 – Herbert and Elmo doing a dance of happiness at the Barcelona Football stadium last week after Manchester United won against Barcelona.

I suppose I should be happy that the bird finally got to see a proper football game – but he is obviously leading my precious little boy astray. Little Elmo was supposed to be on a cultural tour with bunny and Bug, but *herbert obviously intercepted him and dragged him off for a rowdy boys holiday to Barcelona.

hey asti did you try wearing a tiara when you wrote your long post? if you dont have a tiara (and preferably a hoop skirt) then its impossible to channel lemon and all lemon length posts are then swallowed up by the leaky monster.

I keep a diamante tiara in my first aid kit at all times – you never know when you might need one.

Wolfie, I have raided my daughter’s dressing up box. I am now wearing three tiaras. (My head hurts.)

She is sadly lacking in the hoop skirt department, but I have got four wands, (clutched between my teeth so I can type, I knew there’d be a disadvantage, teaching myself to type with both hands!)

The wands will count, don’t you think?

Hi forgetmenot! I’m glad Bunny had been behaving!
