Whoa, there’s been an explosion of posts since I left – and that was only a few hours ago! I’m going to go back to catch up, but before I do, I just have to vent. (I left a civilized comment on the main page, because I know how heated things can get over there, but I figured I could get away with being a bit more vocal over here.)
Have you guys seen the latest news article on the main page? I am absolutely fuming! You know, it’s one thing for Steve to speak out against Jo. I still don’t agree with him, but it makes sense that he’s not feeling very kindly towards her right now. But how DARE he start attacking Melissa?! It’s completely uncalled for; she has done NOTHING wrong! He’s angry with her because she has principles and couldn’t just stand by while he lied through his teeth, so he has to try to make her out to be another bad guy. Oh poor, poor picked-on Steve… using the media’s complete disinclination to fact-check in order to twist the facts around and distort the truth in an attempt to garner sympathy. takes deep breath

I haven’t finished catching up, but I’ve suddenly lost all of my energy. Getting myself all worked up is quite draining (must be why I’m normally such a calm, mild-mannered person, LOL!). Sorry for my little rant earlier. It was sort of a stream-of-consciousness reaction after reading the article.
Where I’ve just left off in the comments, a party is shaping up in the Headmistress’s office. I would love to join in (I’m supposed to be heading there anyway for some chocolate and gossip…and I imagine a party will provide plenty of material to gossip about!). But alas, I am quite sleepy now, so I’ll have to settle for getting the scoop in the morning.

I see another boy has joined us whoooooo hooooooo. We must have doubled our male contingent over the last couple of weeks. Does anyone else think that the increase in the male population may have something to do with MM’s frequent trips to Sluts R Us? Maybe we could pimp her out so that we can attract even more boys :-) Hello to dragonrider (cool name by the way) and your a Ravenclaw too, which makes it even better. I am a Ravenclaw with Gryfindor as a close second ha ha ha I am not sure how I managed to score high on Gryfindor as I am THE biggest coward in the world. If theres any trouble then I’ll be the one running in the opposite direction (obviously I’ll be running to get help of course :-)
As for the rest of you making fun of my previous two boyfriends beastie and the Hoff shame on you all. You know I was heartbroken when Beastie and I split up, thankfully I found the lovely Hoff to take my mind off the pain.
forgetmenot its also a gorgeous day over here in the UK. I am working from home so I think I might go for a little walk at lunchtime Graymayne I also watched too much TV yesterday. I woke up and it was a beautiful day and it was a bank holiday whoo hooooo. I was planning to go out and do something productive, but while flicking through the TV I noticed that one of the channels was showing the first two episodes of the A Team (my favourite TV programme in the world), then another channel had 8 back to back episodes of Airwolf!!!!! I planned to watch maybe one or two episodes and then go out and spend some time in the sun, instead 8 hours later I found myself lounging on the sofa surrounded by empty pepsi cans and chocolate wrappers – so I wasted all that sunshine and only managed to race outside inbetween episodes to buy a family sized bag of curly wurly’s.
jen I also read the article on the main news page and it got me so mad that I had a mini rant in front of my computer (LP’s Bleep machine would have come in useful). I do try to be objective about the whole thing because I find that a lot of journalists seem to have very little integrity and with a bit of artistic license and clever editing they can put a whole different spin on things. They have a habit of taking things out of context to make them more sensational and therefore readable. However, whether taken out of context or not SVA’s comments came across as rather childish and petulant (especially comparing Jo to God and Melissa as her prophet – honestly, I would expect my 11 year old neice to behave that way when she is in one of her ‘nobody loves me’ moods, it just makes him sound ridiculous). It seems a bit of a low blow to drag leaky and especially Melissa into the issue – its quite distasteful really.
I think thats all for now. I hope I havent missed any replies. My brain is still squishy from watching too much TV yesterday – plus my huge lemon channelling tiara is so packed full of diamonds and precious stones that it is pressing down on my skull and compacting my brain.
I’ll be worklurking for a bit, I dont think I will be slurking as I will actually try to get some work done

I’m very happy that the weather’s warmed up here again too. It was a very cold and rainy weekend, and initially that’s what the forecast showed for this whole week, which would have put a damper on my vacation. But, fortunately, at the moment it now looks like Thurs and Fri will be the only yucky days.
Today I’ll be heading up to Boston with my dad. He wants to walk around the Harvard campus because he’s never been (too bad it’s not a month from now, when Jo’ll be here for their commencement). I’ll be lurking until it’s time to leave. (I want to be able to use our new word, but unfortunately, I won’t be able to slurk until I return to work next week – at the moment, I’m not slacking on anything else.) ;)

wolfie, I’m glad to know I was not alone. Despite the ranting nature of my post, it was actually slightly censored from the wording that was going through my mind. Petulant is the perfect word to descibe Steve’s actions. I do completely agree with you about the way the media is able to spin things by taking quotes out of context. (This “journalist” has done that in this article with the PotterCast quotes, which were not said in the mean-spirited way he presented them. But then again, he couldn’t even attribute them to the right person, so what can we expect.) It’s just diheartening to know that this is the representation the public is getting of our fandom.

jen did you listen to the pottercast where Melissa talks about journalistic integrity. I was nodding all the way through it and I did a bit of a Hallelujah dance – I hate the fact that when you read the news you also have to try and figure out what the ‘real’ truth is behind the events (I have a constant struggle with my frieds and family to make them understand that what is reported in the news isnt always necessarily the truth). I agree that the journalist was very mean spirited about Pottercast. I listened to the cast where they discussed SVA and it was very balanced. Thats the real kicker isnt it? the fact that leaky have really been one of the only unbiased reporting sources yet they are made to look the opposite by the press. Grrrrrrr it makes me really angry and makes me want to shout at someone.
Also I saw your note about the leakycon, if I was in the US I would definitely go with you as we would have a great time (and we could swap Auntie stories), but at the moment i cant afford to travel from the UK :( It sounds like so much fun too. Also have a good time in Boston. Its my first day back to work after my holiday and I am finding it really hard to get back into the swing of things :(
wolfie, I don’t think I’ve listened to that one yet. I’d fallen behind on PotterCast when I was working so many hours, and I’m just getting caught up now. I did listen to the one about the trial though, because I was really interested in hearing what the trio had to say about the situation.
If you’re interested, I’ve just discovered an interesting thread in the Lounge, where Melissa has commented a bit about this recent article. It makes me even angrier because this “journalist” really pulled one over on her. It sounds like he kept trying to get her to speak badly of Steve and when she refused to rise to the bait, he just went and manipulated things to sound like she had. Anyway, it’s worth reading through some of the posts; they seem to be much more civil than those on the main page often end up being.

Well, once again I may never read it all. I just did several pages when I realized I didn’t have time to read and post a little Good Morning!!! to everyone and get ready for my day.
We have a double header at the doctor’s offices today. And it is going to be 86 degrees. Something tells me I am going to be coming home hot and cranky.
I spoke to a nurse this morning and someone is supposed to call today to schedule my father’s Heart Cath. It appears his potassium has leveled out and it is a go again.
We are in our 9 weeks tests this week. Then, we still have two weeks of school left with NOTHING TO DO, except glorified baby sitting. I seem to remember they tested us to within about one or two days of the school year ending.
I guess the upside is that my daughter will be occupied during the day next week and the following week without having any homework or studying to do. They are basically providing me with two weeks worth of summer day care.
I know it seems they are getting out of school early but they have to go back on Aug. 7.
