I’ve never read Twilight. I honestly have no idea what it’s even supposed to be about. I think Robert Pattinson looked pretty damn hot in that trailer, though!
I can completely sympathize with all you people who are frustrated with the popularity of Twilight. My best friend told me I HAD to read them, but I flat-out refused. The just sounded so sappy and stupid. Well, my friend’s just as stubborn as I am so she actually mailed me a copy!! It collected dust for a few weeks until I was sick in bed one day and absolutely bored. The next day, I had my Mum go out and by me the second and third. Now I’m completely addicted. In short, go see what it’s really like before you badmouth it like this.

I agree. You all are Harry Potter fans, you should be used to saying this, so take your own advice- Read the books before you trash them. was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked them.
I’m a college educated 22 year old, and i enjoy the Twlight books. I admit, some plot points feel a little weak – “i think you’re a vampire!” “Oh, you got me! Let me tell youa ll about the secret that i’m not supposed to tell anyone!” – but they are fun. They are an easy read. They remind me in a few ways of Christopher Pikes “The Last Vampire” Series that i read when i was… 11 or so. Slushy fun.
I get why teens love it – its got what they need. Highly over exagerated metaphors for the important things they are learning about. We all loved that junk when we were that age :D
So i’ll be seeing the movie, and reading any more books she releases in the series :)
You have the right to trash the books if you have read them, however if you hav’nt keep your opinions to yourself. I hated HP and I love the Twilight series. The characters are complex and its so beyond “Edwards hotness”. If thats all you got out of it read it again. The only reason these books are being compaired to HP is because of how popular they are not because they are similar (which they are not). We all have different tastes so lets let each other enjoy what is important to us.
I disagree with a few comments I’ve read re: the writing and character development of Ms. Meyer. I think her writing is beautiful and I feel a part of her characters much more potently than I ever did with Harry Potter (don’t get me wrong, I own every HP book and love them all dearly)
I think the only reason they are being compared (besides Robert P.) is that they were both sold as YA novels but appeal to a much broader audience, they are both popular, and they both have an element of a ‘hidden world’ right under our noses. I LOVED HP. I feel like if you liked it then you would probably love Twilight too. It’s incredibly addicting…

As a huge Harry Potter fan first, I can honestly say I am just as obsessed with these books as I was with Harry, only in a different way. The romance is the driving force of TWILIGHT with the action and supernatural aspects secondary, whereas HARRY POTTER has always been about the conflict between good and evil, with romance being a secondary storyline. Not that it’s not important, just not the focus. Orson Scott Card, a sci-fi writer mentioned in an article about Stephenie Meyer that Edward is a modern day Mr. Darcy, and I coudln’t agree more. There is more than enough room for both fandoms to exist side-by-side, more than enough things to love about both. And I dare you to read the books and not fall for Edward….or Jacob…or Emmett…or Jasper. And thanks Leaky for keeping our favorite Harry Potter actors in the news with their other projects!!!!!
I’ve read all three books so far, and let me tell you something the Twilight saga is amazing. The plot is simply dazzling (if you know what I mean), it’s not your tipical romance at all, characters are well developed, the writing it’s so fresh, it’s exciting, it’s indeed kinda of adicting. you can totally picture yourself beeing there. There IS a reason why there so many fans of twilight, there IS a reason why Eclipe, the third book, kick HP 7 out of the number one spot of best selling.
How can you say that meyer sucks at writing (for what I’ve read ion some post) I Eh… at least in my country that wouldn’t happen. She has a different style than Rowling that’s true. But at least for me, if I would go to a lost island, I would carry my twilight books rather than the HP ones (and believe me I have a couple of those too).
Anyways, Robert is gonna play a very interesting Edward, far away of the cedric one, I’m really looking forward to see the movie, because for what I’ve seen in the behind the scenes… God, I’m gonna go with a bag of paper to the cinema because of the [almost inevitable] hyperventilating.
Leakey should not be covering a non-Harry Potter series & movie. I know in the past that Leakey has covered other stuff that Daniel Radcliffe and other MAIN HP characters have done – briefly. Robert Pattington was a secondary character that died in Goblet of Fire.
I am an avid HP fan as well as an avid Twilight fan. I read all three books in a matter of 2 weeks while working full time & taking care of two kids. They are not comparable other than they both have a huge dedicated and passionate following of fans.
Twilight is a true love story and it doesn’t involve sex as was suggested by one poster. Twilight is all about a teenage romance – everything else is almost secondary in the story lines. HP on the other hand is the exact opposite. In the HP series the love stories are secondary to the adventure.
I am not bashing either because as I said before I love both books. I know and understand that everyone is entitled to their own oppinion, but to outright bash another author or actor because it isn’t your “taste” of literature. I am over 30 years old and have read many different types of books. I have friends that are over 60 years old and even my own daughter who is 10 that have read and loved the entire Twilight series.
Okay, so, I realize you guys are DIE HARD POTTER FANS…SO AM I! BUT, you have NO IDEA what you’re talking about when it comes to the Twilight series. Seriously, read the books! Some of you may think they’re cheezy, because of some of Edward’s lines; but COME ON, he’s old fashioned and not to mention he’s 100 freakin’ years old! Folks, i’m almost 29 – i’ve got 50 year old women addicted to this seires. Not to mention a couple of my guy friends. It’s the style of her writing, and not to mention the connection between the 3 main characters. Although it is typically a love story, it also has action, suspence, humor, I mean it’s the whole package here. You almost think that these people are real! So on that point, before you nock it -try it!
Should they be comparing the two? Absolutely not. I agree on that point. The only comparrison in my eyes, is the overnight success. While they’re both amazing writers, they also have total different styles.

first of all, i can sense some biased opinions here. The thing is Harry Potter and Twilight are totally different except for the targeted audience but both books should be loved AND should not be compared because both are unique in their own way. i’m totally obsessed with both and there’s no need for a war nor comparison between the two. they’re both wonderful books and maybe even movies (we’ll have to wait for twilight) they really should stop comparing the two. the books have their own charm. let’s leave it to that. Plus the trailer was just a teaser trailer. They haven’t finished the filming process when they made the trailer so the shots were limited. You shouldn’t trash twilight unless you’ve read it. I’ve read both harry potter and twilight and i seriously loved both, though twilight got the more explosive reaction from me. have respect for both authors. J.K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer are both wonderful authors and no one should be trashing about their books. If you don’t like them, you don’t have to tell the world that you don’t. We all have our opinions about both books, i’m not telling you to stop voicing them out but if you know that they’re offending then better not post it.
I think everyone who has critised twilight is being a bit unfair here. what some of you don’t seem to realise is that a large proportion of twilight fans are harry Potter fans. since HP is no an “active” series anymore, people have found something new to talk about. whats wrong with that?
I personnaly don’t think that Twilight is badly written, harry Potter is not particullly well written either and there is nothing wrong with that. to sum it up i think they are both fantastic series and that they can both have a place in literacy. i think people should cut it with the “twilight VS HP” stuff cos at the end of the day a awful lot of us like both.
My opinion: Twilight is in many ways a soap opera. Hopelessy cheesy lines, not enough plot, and a weak female character as it’s star. But there is something undeniably addicting about it for me! I read it, I go, “Sheesh, that line is so corny!” but it’s fun to roll my eyes at and get sucked into. So, while I think it is no where near Harry Potter in how good the quality is, it isn’t so unfathomably bad as people make it out to be.
The Twilight books are awesome! They are very addicting. I still love Harry Potter, but Twilight is a great subsitution for no more Harry Potter books. Robert Pattinson is Edward Cullen, from all the stuff I have seen so far. Twilight the movie is going to give Half Blood Prince a run for its money!
