It is my hope that HP fans who loved Cedric Diggory [and hated to see Robert Pattinson’s character killed off] will embrace the Twilight movie as an opportunity to see him “immortalized” sort of speak.

Let’s give Rob a little love here and just consider go seeing Twilight in December.

I love the twilight series! these books are very fun to read and the love story is very passionate. there is no comparison to harry potter. the only thing they have in common is large fan-bases. Rowling’s syle is very epic and complex while Meyer’s is somewhat softer but also gripping read. there is no reason to bash twilight because its not HP, and twilight isnt only good because “edward is totally hot.” The story presents a conflict between what we want, what we should want, and what we cant have. Also, Jo places her love situations in different ways and it isn’t always the focal point. Meyer isn’t shoving it down your throat either. The books are an easy read and demand your attention, they also make you think. so i suggest at least giving it a chance.

Thank you, Faktririjekt, for your comment, and for being so pleasant. I know my own comment was fairly snarky, so you’ve definitely outclassed me there. ;) The only excuse I can make for my snark is that I recently came from another forum (one that has nothing to do with either Twilight or HP), and a couple of people there who happen to be Twilight fans were talking about the books and making some pretty snide remarks about how HP sucks, and HP fans are sooooo jealous because Twilight is supposedly “winning” over HP since it’s really popular at the moment. I guess I sort of took my irritation with them out on the Twilight fans here, which I shouldn’t have done.

Don’t get me wrong, I still stand by the points I made in my previous post. But I should have kept my comment free of snark, and I didn’t.

Sorry for posting again, but I wanted to say that I sort of agree with those who’ve said that this movie isn’t really relevant enough to HP to warrant this much attention on Leaky. I could understand a brief article along the lines of “The teaser trailer for the movie Twilight, which features HP actor Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), is now available online. Click here to view the trailer.”

But yeah, this much attention and information does seem to be going a bit overboard for a movie that is barely related to HP, when all is said and done.

On the other hand, the WB has been so painfully slow about giving us HBP movie info that it’s nice to read anything on Leaky right now. So I’m not really complaining. :)

O.M.E. How can you ppl say such bad things about Twilight when you haven’t even read them?? I think Twilight (and Edward!) is AMAZING. You shouldn’t compare Twilight and HP b/c they’re completely different. Ppl ask me which is better and I say they can’t be compared. You’re allowed to have an opinion, just give them a chance first!(and don’t compare!) Oh and ps “hpboy13”, even though Edward is insanely gorgeous, there is so much more to the book than that!

To everyone: I’ve read the books. My opinion is still the same. I am not jealous. “Twilight” doesn’t stand even a tiny chance of becoming the next HP. The audience is limited and the last book is already coming out. “Twilight” is very popular, but it’s sales figures for the entire series are about half of what DH sold in one day in the U.S. (to put things in perspective). So to act as if the people who hate “Twilight” are jealous is imho, asinine. There is simply no comparison. As for the HBP and Twilight movies competing. Are you serious? Get some perspective, please. The box office won’t even be remotely comparable.

Personally, I think Twilight, the movie, is going to kick the next HP movie’s @ss, but then again that’s just my opinion. You can’t judge the movie by the teaser that was just released. They literally just finished filming this past week. That was most likely a very rough teaser. If you’re going to judge the movie by appearance, then I’d wait until the official full trailer comes out this summer. But the movie’s already getting tons of publicity, not just online, but on tv as well, and when I say tv, I don’t just mean programs like MTV. Oh, well, once the next HP movie comes out, we’ll only have to wait two more weeks before we find out the answer to thebig question: Who’s going to sell more at the box office? And as far as books go, even though it may not be saying much, I sitll love to say it anyway, “Eclipse” did ‘eclipse’ the last HP book on the best sellers list.

-Hpboy13 Unless you actually read the books, i do not think anyone can consider that a valid critisism. I love both HP and Twilight. I have also read Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Twilight kicks that series but f.y.i.) but the book is so much more than a character’s attractiveness. Rowling and Meyer do have different writing styles and i enjoy reading both as many people do. But, i think character development in a book is THE MOST IMPORTANT PART of the story. And it is not like she says “Well, alice is a spunky, attractive vampire…” she uses the indirect characterazation with their dialogue. It also has a great plot that is addicting. If all people do is obsess over the attractiveness of a character in a book, they do not understand the book enough to say anything other than “edward is reallly hot” No offense to your friends, i am sure that they like the book for other reasons other than edward. Sorry, if it sounds like i am being rude, i am just contradicting your comment b/c it is most certainly not true. And as a huge twilight fan, myself, and i am sure many others would be offended by someone saying the book they are in love with is bad.

@ Sarah:

Yes, it WAS quite an accomplishment for Eclipse to knock Deathly Hallows off the top of the bestseller list.

But as someone else said earlier, when the Twilight books have remained the the bestseller lists for ten freaking years, then we’ll talk. ;)

It bothers me that many people seem to feel that just because Twilight is not Harry Potter, than it is not good. They are two very different series, written in very different styles. While Harry Potter is more plot driven, Twilight focuses more on the individual characters.Twilight is a wonderful book, and a very worthwhile read. The characters (contrary to what some people are saying), are highly developed, so much so that reading about them makes my heart stop. If you like romance, and are willing to read a book other than Harry Potter and appreciate it for what it is, then I highly recomend the Twilight series.

OMG Twlight is sooo good. “New Moon” is quite boring but “Eclipse is so excellent!” Its such a great story. And Robert is absolutley PERFECT as the sexy vampire Edward Cullen! He really becomes the character i think. The tortured vampire who tries to be good and not kill people and he falls in love with his singer (the person who he wants to kill the most because her blood smells the sweetest). He just does it so well! I think the Twlight series would appeal to most Harry Potter fans who are getting older and looking for a fantasy story thats more mature and a bit sexier. The characters in Twlight are so much more interesting then in Harry Potter, (for example the history of each of the Cullen’s and the way they interact as an adopted family is very sweet and interesting), the relationship between Edward and Bella is extremely intense and addictive hehe. And lets face it, sexy vampires are just way cooler then wizards, no matter which way you look at it hehe. I would just like to commend Rob on his excellent acting! You are going to be the most popular young actor for teen girls now! hehe. And i would also like to commend Stephanie Meyer for writing the first young adult fantasy book thats intense and sexy hehe. The vampires are so unique in, the special powers they have (e.g. Alice seeing the future, Edward reading minds), the fact that they glow in the sun, the fact that a few vampires are “vegetarian” and don’t eat people for moral reasons, its all very original and creative. BRANDI: Yes i would definitley recommend the Twlight series, if you are looking for a more mature fantasy story, this is for you!

Also, to resond to someones comment; I think LEAKY did this article because Twlight would definity appeal to HP fans. They are both fantasy after all. and IVY, thats not fair, Twlight will not be on the list for 10 years because there will only be 4 books in the series, not seven like Harry Potter so you can’t compare. Twilight is absolutley amazing to knock Deathly Hallows from the top spot and i personally think thats why HP fans will not read twlight, They are being stubborn and do not want to read it because they are angry that it did better then HP. News flash everyone: even though i was toally obssessed with HP, that does not mean that its the best book in the world, and its possible for other fantasy series to be better e.g. Twilight. But you can’t really compare HP and Twlight because the writing is a completley different style. I was obsessed with Deathly Hallows until i read Twlight and i realised that Twlight is such a better story. More mature, more sexier, more intense, more tradegy, more excitment and more comedy (e.g. when Bella’s dad gave her the sex talk and Bella was like “ah dad don’t make me say it, i’m a virgin!” i could not stop laughing hehe), I think Twlight is like Harry Potter but just taken to a higher level.

Seeing that there is complete lack of news for hbp, :( I am more than happy to read about other actors from the hp series doing something else. It really doesn’t bother me that leaky posted this on their website, i mean its not a big deal, you don’t have to read it, sometimes there are plenty of stories that i skip over just get the headlines. (yeah, i know thats bad but I don’t have a lot of time usally when i do my once a day check of leaky, I am usally on my way somewhere, today its raining so no outdoor swim lessons) On a side note, thanks pottercast, you and my waterproof mp3 player makes my laps a lot more enjoyable, its boring looking at the bottom of a pool for 3 hours

I have read both of them, but I have never compared them, they are 2 different stories, Its like saying apples are the same as oranges. I am more excited for the Scottish Book, than the 4th twilight novel, but i am looking foward to the book comming out.

Arielle-

You’re right – Twilight and Harry Potter are VERY different in many ways. But here’s my thing with Twilight (no bashing here, I’ve read all the books thus far and enjoyed them enough): While you say Twilight focuses more on characters, I don’t think the characters are that great. Now, before anyone assumes I HATE the characters, let me be clear: they’re all right, but I have some issues with the way Meyer has made them. First, Bella, while endearingly “normal” and clumsy, is a rather weak character. I know she is supposed to be, because that helps the whole “normal” part. But mentally, physically…She just isn’t a very role-modelly character, which I personally would prefer in a so-called heroine.

Edward is, while more interesting to me than Bella, cheesy. His lines are so gooey. I just can’t read them without rolling my eyes.

Alice, however, is a GOOD character. Her personality, backstory, and physical description are so well done. I really do like that character.

Anyway just my two cents.

The dialogue in Twilight is very sweet! Those of you who will not read the books because of it are being unfair. Try the books before you judge. Stephenie is a brilliant storyteller and if you don’t like her, all us Twilighters will start a mob!
