There is a new article online from Home Media Magazine which gives information on a limited theatrical release in the US for “Ballet Shoes,” the BBC film staring Emma Watson (Hermione Granger). Set to take place in a total of “171 theaters in 77 markets across 35 states,” the showings will start on August 26th, the week prior to the film’s DVD release in the US on September 2. Additionally, the article notes that “All participating theater chains within a 20-mile radius of the showcasing theaters will begin playing the film’s trailer Aug. 1 and will feature the theatrical poster beginning Aug. 4.” Readers will remember “Ballet Shoes” was first broadcast on BBC1 last December. The release of the Region 2 DVD in the UK followed shortly after in January.
I agree with you Professor Potter. Though from what I have seen from Harry Potter and Ballet Shoes, I thought she was better as Pauline. For me I would like to see Emma do a Romantic comedy or a comedy in general. All the HP movies and Ballet Shoes are drama. I would love her to do something different. Branch out to a role that is totally different from Hermione, since Pauline is kinda like Hermione in a way.
Just to say I don’t think Emma is a bad actress. There are worse out there. I think what she needs to do is to branch out, that is if she wants to continue acting after the HP series.
A-YAY!!! i’m excited! even though i’ve seen parts of it on youtube already & i live in a pretty small town so i probably won’t be seeing it in theatres i’ll definitely get it on DVD!
P.S. it would’ve been cool if they did this w/ My Boy Jack. :)
Three million people in Metro Phoenix and it doesn’t appear to be showing in our area when it is released. Drat.

“For me, the problem is less about what you say about Emma, but more about how often you say it.
Just about every time Leaky posts news about Emma, you and others post essentially the same negative comments you’ve posted so many times before.”
For all I know, I have not posted gazillion posts about how I’m not particulary fond of her acting. I can’t take the blame for others doing that. (I think the same thing should be said to those Rupert fans who constantly whine about him not winning some awards.)
Wow, this will surely be the last time I’m going to say anything about her acting if I’m going to be labelled as a ‘petty fangirl’ or a ‘Emma-hater’. I had no idea this would be the reaction, since Leaky has always been a place where you can have a good discussion. I thought my arguments were pretty reasonable and I didn’t bash her, like many (jeleasous girls) do. As I said, I really do think she’s a very nice young woman.
“For me I would like to see Emma do a Romantic comedy or a comedy in general. “
Yeah, I’d quite like to see her do a romantic comedy, too. Didn’t she say Julia Roberts is her favourite actress? Maybe she will do something like ‘Notting Hill’. Somehow I think she would be good in those. Anogther genre I think she would do well in is period pieces, something that Keira Knightley does a lot. She certainly has the classic, English rose, beauty.
Mister Hahn:
“I also think that the “Dan-better-than-Emma” acting point of view is, IMO, simply ridicolous”
What do you mean by this? That Dan’s acting is worse than Emma’s and it’s ridiculous to say otherwise? That’s pretty rich, does it mean you can only critisize some actors? I certainly don’t think Dan and Rupert are flawless, far from it, merely that I think they’re both better than Emma. Especially Dan has imroved A LOT over the years.
Saying otherwise is far away from ridicolous to me.
Obviously you have your good reasons to enjoy Dan’s acting. I wasn’t replying directly to you, i just saw someone saying something about and i gave my opinion on the subject.
What i meant is that arguing that Dan’s acting is better than Emma’s is just like saying that the moon is square-shaped, because it’s self-evident that it’s not.
That kind of “ridicolous”. Probably not the exact word i should have used, but definitely close to it.
I agree that Dan improved hugely beetween the films, especially in the 4th-5th period, and i think he’s the one who improved the most. He surprised me with his performance in the Order, way more committed than the rest of the trio.
But as Harry he completely lacks of any emotional charge. To me, from film 3 to film 5 he seems to be a passenger of the film. The huge amount of action-stuff he dives into can’t hide that completely.
Emma as Hermione and Rupert as Ron had that charge, not all the times, they’re not flaw-free, but they had it. And i found it to be more important that any acting technique and any “In character/Out of character” remark.
Sorry if there were a “i think you are ridicolous” misunderstanding. =)
We saw the DVD in England in the spring and I thought it was a nice movie. If you’re familiar with the book, it’s just a very sweet, simple story. It’s not meant to be a blockbuster film, but I think young girls especially will enjoy it. And good for Emma taking the opportunity to do something other than HP. None of the trio are “great” actors, in my opinion, and there isn’t any guarantee any of them will continue to have successful acting careers beyond HP. So I think it’s smart for them to be doing as much as they can do now to improve and challenge themselves. I don’t think Emma has had voice lessons, or an acting coach, as I’ve read Dan mention he has, so give her a break.
The reason Emma hasn’t thrown herself into acting is because she’s been dealing with school. Dan dropped out and decided to be an actor and thus he got an acting coach, etc. That makes sense. I agree that none of the trio are great actors, they are learning and continueing to improve.
I doubt any theater near me will have this movie but I would like to see it on the big screen. It had a sweetness to it, plus they would be able to add the extra scenes since there is no time restraint. Keira Knightley has made a living out of movies like these. Not a blockbuster but it is a good family pic nad that’s what sells best here in the states.
I thought Emma had the more challenging role of the three sisters, her character had the most development. Emma was brillant in many of the scenes.
It would be really fun to watch Dudley's dilemma; to taunt him, watch him, with him powerless to respond... and if any of the others tried hitting Harry, Harry was ready -- he had his wand... let them try... He'd love to vent some of his frustration on th
