"Twilight" Film Moves Into "Half-Blood Prince" Release Date

A number of media outlets are tonight reporting that after the recent announcement by Warner Bros. that the sixth film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, would be pushed back to a July 17, 2009 theatrical release, a decision was made by Summit Entertainment to move the release date for the upcoming “Twilight” film up to the now vacated date of November 21, 2008. The BBC has a report online which notes the recent ‘frenzy’ that was caused during the publication of the forth and final book in the series as one of the factors in this decision. News of this move for “Twilight,” which stars Harry Potter actor Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), also made it over to MTV which quotes Rob Friedman from Summit Entertainment as saying they saw “a unique opportunity to slot in our film, which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months.”

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” will now have its release on July 17, 2009.

I am truly upset with WB (money hungry jerks) all the fans have been waiting for this movie. Dont they understand how we feel, GUESS NOTTTT. Twilight will be a good movie, but it cannot be Harry Potter. Something needs to be done to get WB to see that they need to put the movie back on schedule or release it on Christmas.

I agree with Chero and luna, I like both series very much for what they are separately. This is very disappointing to hear harry potter fans who are supposed to be all loving and understandable, to be tearing down another fandom like that. It Is quite rude and goes against the true spirit of what the books have been trying to teach all of us. I’ve heard some really negative comments about twilight from potter fans about the story and what occurs with in it’s pages. I know people are entitled to their opinions etc. However, the fans I’ve run across aren’t sounding all that different to those who had bashed Harry Potter and still do. To have harry potter fans stooping to that level is very sad.

I love the HP ‘books’ and JK’s witting has improved with each one. The movies have gotten worse with each successive release as more is left out and distorted. Soooooo I’m trying to say that yes I’m angry that WB is delaying HBP but I now I won’t have to be disappointed in it until August because we no longer feel the movies are worth the first week crowds. Reread the books again I’m sure most of you will enjoy them much more then the movies. I’m sorry for those of you who are fans of the actors but you still have the dvd’s. :)

As you know Twilight is not a WB film and has nothing to do with the move except caring for their fans and an open date. I have been planing to see it because I’ve enjoyed vampire lore since before Buffy and Angel(both well written) or Anne Rice. I just read the first 50 pages of twilight and will persevere hoping it will improve. The movie could be better then the book. All 3 Lord of the Rings, extended versions, were better and Practical Magic is a much better movie then book. I’m hoping Twilight is also one of the rare exceptions where the movie outshines the book. It has Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory) as the male lead and that’s a great start!..even if magic is my first chuice of subject matter.

I don’t understand the hate between fans of Harry Potter and Twilight. I love both series as they’re good and entertaining reads. I also loved that a lot of book series like these are being translated to the big screen so I’m definitely going to watch both movies, whenever they’re going to be released. Summit Entertainment has made it clear in its press release that they don’t intend to replace the Potter franchise in their decision. Even the author, Stephenie Meyer, have mentioned that she is not involved in the decision to move the release date and had frequently mentioned in interviews that she looks up to J.K. Rowling. Comparing Harry Potter and Twilight is like comparing apples and oranges. Perhaps, we should cheer the success of two stay-at-home moms who have done nothing but to entertain us with their writing and restore the love for books.

Just a thought though: if another fall movie say Bolt or The Day The Earth Stood Still took over Harry Potter’s slot, would it make a difference with the uproar between fandoms? Maybe yes, maybe not. What I do hate are the press who create a war between fandoms when there shouldn’t be one.

While the love and enthusiasm are great, all of us should just chill. Perhaps, we should cast the bad memories into our own Pensieves or travel to Switzerland. I’m sad for the delay in release of HBP but I’m happy for Twilight’s early release. I’m a fan of all the HP and Twilight actors so definitely one of the reasons why I’m supporting both films is Robert Pattinson, which is precisely why this article exists in Leaky because they support the works of all the actors who participated in the HP movie franchise. There will be HP fans who don’t like Twilight but if you’re a true fan, you’d support the films released by HP actors and that includes Robert Pattinson. So, cheers to you Leaky for a very professional take on this news release.

Twilight isn’t a Warner Bros movie for all those implying that they moved Twilight- that was Summit Entertainment, nothing to do with Time Warner Inc. But with this move all I can say is cheeky cheeky b**s!!

There’s nothing we can do to change the release date at this point, however there is something we can do so it doesn’t happen again, and so WB get the message.

Please sign a pledge to boycott the opening weekend and send a message to WB that they will actually listen to. Forward this on to everyone you can. That way we can still see the movie when it does come out, but on our terms, sending WB a strong message, and hurting their big opening weekend:

There moving Harry Potter to next year because the fans of Harry potter and twilight wil only pay once to see Harry potter and once to see twilight. So it will be taking from one this way the fans will pay twice back to back to see one . It is a money making move.

Well, I’ve never read Twilight but I know it’s about Vampire romance or something like that…I CAN’T BELIEVE WARNER BROTHERS!!! HARRY POTTER IS BETTER THAN TWILIGHT AND ANYONE WHO THINKS OTHERWISE HAS TO REREAD ALL 7 OF THEM (AND MAYBE THE DEATHLY HALLOWS ABOUT 100 TIMES)!! ANYWAYS, AS JEROME POINTS OUT…WHICH CAME FIRST?? HARRY POTTER!! HOW DO WE KNOW TWILIGHT IS NOT JUST A COPY OF HARRY POTTER?? My best friend has always been a Harry Potter fan and then she started reading stinking Twilight and claims it’s better!!! No Vampire Love Story can ruin Harry Potter!! Twilight doesn’t even sound like a good book. Not that I don’t think Vampires are cool or anything (my respect remains with Sanguini, who should be in theatres like the rest of the Half-Blood stuff November 21st, but NO Twilight’s too special!!) but how could someone like it better than Harry Potter?? Maybe I’m being biased about Twilight I mean, I haven’t even read it. But I can assure you, I won’t like it as much as Harry Potter. I CANNOT believe the Warner Brothers did this, though!! I CANNOT believe this!! Really, it would be necessary to go down to their studios with pitchforks and everything and start attacking them. I have now officially named the Warner Brothers “The Death Eaters”!! Great, now who’s joining me in “Dumbledore’s Army”?

I don’t think this has anything to do with the Twilight filmmakers trying to compete with HBP. That assumption is baseless and just plain stupid. In order for them to be competing, they would have to be coming out the same week. I’m sure they saw the opening up of the release date as a nice opportunity for them to take up the slack – especially for those fans who are planning on seeing both. Twilight will likely have a stronger showing in its first few weeks now than it might have had before (coming out just three weeks after HBP and two weeks before the Christmas rush). There’s nothing really now to compete with it in its genre. Acting like they’re trying to slap HP fans and the film in the face is childish. They saw a good chance and they took it before someone else could. You can’t blame them for that. Just because WB is acting like a pack of jerks doesn’t mean everyone else is.

For people who are telling us to calm down: Stop telling us because none of us know if we’ll get over it. Well, thanks a lot, Twilight. You just took HBP’s spot!!! We have waited for the sixth movie for almost a year and now WB announces that you’re in the spot we’ve been waiting for. WB, I will NEVER forgive you!!!

WB has nothing to do with Twilight. Go scream at WB but do not blame Twilight.

my o my sorry to sound offensive but really some of you people are being idiotic. I am deeply angered by the new release date but to place your blame on the twilight series is wrong. Im not even a fan of them and I still have more respect than you guys do. They were not taking advantage of HP’s weakspot, but instead were simply trying to please on there part.

You can send red letters or whatever the crap it is alll you want but do you really think that this is gonna get fixed? I don’t. WB is interested in moneysacks and a couple of easily disposed of letters will do nothing to stop them
