"Twilight" Film Moves Into "Half-Blood Prince" Release Date

A number of media outlets are tonight reporting that after the recent announcement by Warner Bros. that the sixth film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, would be pushed back to a July 17, 2009 theatrical release, a decision was made by Summit Entertainment to move the release date for the upcoming “Twilight” film up to the now vacated date of November 21, 2008. The BBC has a report online which notes the recent ‘frenzy’ that was caused during the publication of the forth and final book in the series as one of the factors in this decision. News of this move for “Twilight,” which stars Harry Potter actor Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), also made it over to MTV which quotes Rob Friedman from Summit Entertainment as saying they saw “a unique opportunity to slot in our film, which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months.”

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” will now have its release on July 17, 2009.

Who cares? Twilight will be lucky to make $100 million in it’s whole run. That’s what movies like HP make in a weekend. I can’t believe anyone thinks that a boycott will actually harm HBP’s box office. Keep dreaming!

this is bull crap. WTF who cares? yes i am a twilight fan, a big one too, but Harry Potter comes first! we been waiting for this movie for the longest time. we been waiting for ginny and harry to finally kiss, and dreading to see dumbledore die. twilight is big, but its not as big as harry potter and i think it will never be. now don’t get me wrong. i love twilight, i love it as much as i love harry potter, but come on. it was pathetic of them to move the date to july 17 09. they only moved it because it would have gone up against twilight. so they moved it next year so they can make more money. well, i have made my descion, on november 21st, im sitting outside my movie theater with a sign stating “i came to see Harry Potter, not twilight”. then dec 12 on the ACCUTAL date release for twilight ill see the movie, and now, i might not hbp. i refuse to see it a year after its orignal release date. ill just wait to download the movie or wait to dvd. im not looking forward to the movie anymore….WB bascailly just took away my love of the movies now

I can’t quite explain why but I find this to be a cheeky move on the behalf of WB. They delay HBP ‘till July and expect to satiate moviegoers by slipping Twilight into it’s original spot… it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Enough with the Twilight insults. No one ever said Twilight was better than HP. We all know that it’s not better, but that is no reason to hate it. Why does there have to be a competition between the two? I’m as upset as the rest of you about them changing the date for HBP, but insulting Twilight isn’t going to make me feel better. Can’t we just be happy that the Twilight fans are getting their movie earlier? Is it too much to ask that we could be happy for someone else?

Good for Twilight. Delaying HBP was a bad move, and I think Twilight will have a lot more people see it now that it won’t be competing with Harry Potter

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!! I was getting all excided counting down the days and everything and now WB has to go and push it back…TIL NEXT YEAR!! =( WB has some major issues!! Don’t they realize that Harry Potter is just superior over Twilight! Of course this is all about MONEY! What else would it be about?! It’s like everyone was saying earlier…WB knows it’ll do better as a big summer release so they’ll carelessly make us all wait practically a whole year for it. I don’t care when they release the Twilight movie or whatever, they just shouldn’t mess with HBP! We’ve all waited too long for this movie as it is. I’m with Jerome on this one…on Nov. 21 I’m dressing in my Hogwarts robes and going down to the movie theater with my friends and a ton of signs saying we want POTTER not Twilight!! =(

I hate this so much!!! i had hear this from someone at my work. I was like ” are they trying to kill me”. The question is WHY WHY i was ok with november 08 but july 09? Are you kidding me? When i saw the trailer fro the movie i got so excited, finally the next movie is coming but, WB just made me wait a whole year now. I need the movie come on the right which is November 21 ,08 not July 19,09.

What’s with all of the Twilight hate? I know some of you have said its cool, but not as good. How can you compare apples and oranges? They’re totally different things. Twilight is amazing for what it is. Harry Potter is amazing for what it is. End of story. They changed the dates and I doubt they will change them back.

People can pitch a fit and maybe, by some miracle, WB will get the stick out of their bums and fix this. However, WB has never really cared about the fans as much as they care about profit. I used to work in the film industry and I can tell you guys that it is all about the bottom dollar. People don’t matter in that industry, which is why I got out of it.

For the record, right now, people don’t hate Twilight, people hate WB for moving HBP and are just a little frustrated with Twilight cause it was the movie chosen to be moved up to the date of Nov. 21. WB could have picked the most awesome movie in the world to be released on Nov. 21 instead and everyone would still be mad about the arrangement. So it’s not so much that we hate Twilight. We hate WB and the way they’re choosing to run things at the moment.

I don’t have anything against Twilight, I’ve read the series and enjoyed it; my yuck feeling comes from the fact that the HBP and Twilight audiences are similar. This is just my feeling but I just think they should have left HBP and Twilight for when they were originally going to be released. Cool for Twilight fans though

Genius move on Summit Entertainment’s part. There is a fair amount of crossover with the Twilight/HP fans, and throwing this movie out there on the date we’ve all had on our calenders for months has the possibility of drawing more people to the theater. Not to mention the fact that HP fans are hungry for something right now, and we are, let’s face it, an obsessive bunch, it might compel some people to get into Twilight for the mere purpose of having something to tide them over until July.

No, Twilight is no replacement for HP, but I have to say, it is some fluffy fun. Everyone is going to have to face, eventually, that we’re not going to get something like another Harry Potter, and comparing something to it is just going to cause heartbreak. Let’s all just be glad we got to experience HP firsthand, because it is incredibly rare, and keep an open mind about the rest.

I wasn’t planning on seeing Twilight at the theater, but I think I will now. Congratulations Summit on a brilliant move following WB’s idiotic move. Don’t pay for HBP tickets. Sneak in. Don’t buy merchandise or see any of WB’s other movies. Make them pay. Write letters to WB and make your voice heard. Let them know you’re not going to pay to see HBP. Send them to Alan Horn, Warner Bros. Studios 4000 Warner Blvd Burbank CA 91522.
