A number of media outlets are tonight reporting that after the recent announcement by Warner Bros. that the sixth film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, would be pushed back to a July 17, 2009 theatrical release, a decision was made by Summit Entertainment to move the release date for the upcoming “Twilight” film up to the now vacated date of November 21, 2008. The BBC has a report online which notes the recent ‘frenzy’ that was caused during the publication of the forth and final book in the series as one of the factors in this decision. News of this move for “Twilight,” which stars Harry Potter actor Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), also made it over to MTV which quotes Rob Friedman from Summit Entertainment as saying they saw “a unique opportunity to slot in our film, which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months.”
“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” will now have its release on July 17, 2009.
i think this is the most ridiculous thing that i’ve ever heard. words cant express how frustrated i am at the moment. I love Twilight, but I’ve GROWN UP WITH HARRY POTTER. To think that Twilight could ever take a lead over HP is unquestionable. When it comes down to it, Twilight should be the ones to change their release date- because god knows harry potter would kick major twilight ass.
Some people need to learn how to read. Twilight is a movie produced by Summit Entertainment NOT WB. It was not WB’s making to change the release date for Twilight.
Also, let me state that I LOATH what WB did to HBP just like most on here, but this is completely independent from Twilight and Summit Entertainment so don’t even go there with the hating. I don’t know why people are so eager to bash other franchises that aren’t Harry Potter! I was never a Star Wars fan but I don’t bash it. I like Lord of the Rings, Inheritance and Twilight, and though Harry Potter will always be my favorite series it doesn’t mean I can’t like others and it’s really annoying when others bad mouth them. Most other big series and franchises can’t compare to HP in how different from it they are, so only because you don’t like them or haven’t even read/seen them, don’t trash talk and bash them. No one likes it when people bash Harry Potter, so why stoop to their level? R-e-S-p-E-c-T =)
PS: WB executives need to reconsider their desition about HBP’s release date soon or face the wrath of the HP fan community.
I wonder if cultural heritage always shows up in one’s voice and choice of themes when writing.
I knew that Stephanie Meyers was from Phoenix, but I was surprised how clearly that showed up in her stories. Growing up in the Valley of the Sun has always made me aware of smells, the rain, and temperature extremes to the point of being a joke to my friends. Her slightly acerbic tone also seems familiar very Phoenician. Even though I knew he was Quillute, I pictured Jacob’s house as a Navajo hogan with the door facing East.
AND
Jo Rowling’s beautiful Brittish voice makes me want to jump on a plane just to see her land.
I love both the Harry Potter series and the Twilight Series. I have no problem at all plunking my money down on the counter to see all the movies WHENEVER they come out.
I’m still wondering why THEY DID THIS FOR TWILIGHT?? I’ve been angry at the Twilight fans recently (even my good friends are Twilight fanatics, so I’m not PO’d to the extreme), but I think it’s just because I’m sick of comparisons between HP and Twilight when I do not see how they can be compared in literary standards.
Wow.. Don’t get me wrong, Twilight is an OK series, but, I am more of an HP fan so I’d much rather HBP come sooner than Twilight.. But to each his own..
Okay, I was a seriously bummed out when I found out that HP was gonna be moved back till July, but then I found out that Twilight was taking it’s place which also bummed me out. The movie was supposed to come out the day after my b-day so I had a huge thing planned. I think everything just should have stayed the way it was…
Well I must say, I have read both series and I am equally excited about both films. However, I don’t think it’s fair that Harry Potter get moved back, I wonder why, too. I do know though that it is not because of Twilight. Twilight simply took the spot when they had the opportunity. I can’t wait for both movies to come out!
"As you know, three champions compete in the tournament... one from each of the participating schools. They will be marked on how well they perform each of the Tournament tasks and the champion with the highest total after task three will win the Triwizar
Great, more reason for “Twilight vs. Potter” to start up again! I hate WB, I really do!
