A number of media outlets are tonight reporting that after the recent announcement by Warner Bros. that the sixth film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, would be pushed back to a July 17, 2009 theatrical release, a decision was made by Summit Entertainment to move the release date for the upcoming “Twilight” film up to the now vacated date of November 21, 2008. The BBC has a report online which notes the recent ‘frenzy’ that was caused during the publication of the forth and final book in the series as one of the factors in this decision. News of this move for “Twilight,” which stars Harry Potter actor Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), also made it over to MTV which quotes Rob Friedman from Summit Entertainment as saying they saw “a unique opportunity to slot in our film, which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months.”
“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” will now have its release on July 17, 2009.
I don’t think fans are hating on Twilight, I think it’s sort of upsetting to hear that it’s “replacing” HP, even though it’s just filling an empty slot. My first reaction was “WAIT, WHO’S REPLACING HP?!?” and then it seems like they’re doing it to appease us, when they really, really can’t.
If it seems like HP fans are hating on Twilight, it’s just misdirected anger.
I was going to watch Twilight anyway, it doesn’t make much difference if it’s pushed forward. Just means I’ll be able to watch it sooner. :)
I’ll just be pissed at WB for pushing back HP, and not take it out on Twilight, ‘cause that’d just be ridiculous.
Well, atleast we’re getting a cool fantasy movie.
But yeah, it sorta does suck they’ve moved HP so far away, but, i recently picked up Twilight, and i think its great!
If i had to pick between Twilight and Harry Potter…I dont know what i’d pick!
You guys, Twilight is not responsible for this, and neither is Summit Entertainment. WB is the villain here and the two are not related. If you want to boycott WB (and I highly recommend and support that decision, I am boycotting everything WB myself over all this) go to Wikipedia for a list of all WB partners and subsidiaries so you know who to boycott. Summit is not on the list.
I also support all the email/snail mail and phone call campaigns, the petitions and any picketing anyone with access can do in front of their offices or studios. Go for it. It may not make any difference, but it sure feels better to do something than nothing.
Personally, I am not a Twilight fan, but my daughter is and a lot of other people I know and respect are. I just don’t care for it, I think the writing is pretty poor (and yes, I have read them all), but that is just me. The movie may be good, I don’t know. I am not hyped to see it, but I probably will because I will have to take my daughter and her friends. That’s fine, whatever. But I have been DYING for HBP ever since the day OoTP came out. I am extremely pissed off about them moving the date back and ready for some serious money-driven revenge. They are not getting any more out of ME.
I have to say that the way Summit is treating THIER fans may soften me toward the Twilight movie a great deal. They are taking care of their fan base and showing that they respect them and are interested in getting them the movie they are craving as soon as possible. Is it still a money based decision? Sure, they are a business every bit as much as WB. They’ll get higher box office numbers for the year because they have just gained three extra weeks, and the bonus is they won’t have to compete with HBP at all. The difference is, their money based decisions are in FAVOR of their fans, not diametrically opposed to their desires like WB. The issue here is that WB screwed us, not that Summit took advantage of the now open time slot. Good for them for looking out for their fans. WB should take notes.
We’d just like to say that we wrote a wrock song about this whole mess. Check it out at myspace.Om/swedishshortsnouts . It’s called “Warner Brothers Suck” and is a bit more serious than it sounds.

I Will Not Being Seeing Twinlight, I Wasnt Even Planning It Anyway. Harry Potter Has Always Been My Fav. Not All Harry Potter Fans Like Twinlight, I Know Im Not Really Keen On It!
Gosh how can they do this??? I am sooo much Twilighter and I am dying to see the movie sooner but not on this way. I want the original dates and I am going to fight for them. I am sending tomorrow 15 HOWLERS to Warner Bros!!! They will regret this.
NOvember 21 is Harry POtter’s day.
December 12 is Twilight’s day.
Enough with the Twilight hate! Harry Potter is awesome but so is Twilight! Twilight had nothing to do with the moving of the Harry Potter date so why is everyone so mad at THEM? Be mad at Warner Brothers. Not. Summit. I am also upset about the change but think of it this way: The new Harry Potter stuff will last longer this way. There is now more time to look forward to the remaining movies.
The real Mad-Eye Moody was at the staff table now, his wooden leg and magical eye back in place. He was extremely twitchy, jumping every time someone spoke to him. Harry couldn't blame him; Moody's fear of attack was bound to have been increased by his te
