"Twilight" Film Moves Into "Half-Blood Prince" Release Date

A number of media outlets are tonight reporting that after the recent announcement by Warner Bros. that the sixth film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, would be pushed back to a July 17, 2009 theatrical release, a decision was made by Summit Entertainment to move the release date for the upcoming “Twilight” film up to the now vacated date of November 21, 2008. The BBC has a report online which notes the recent ‘frenzy’ that was caused during the publication of the forth and final book in the series as one of the factors in this decision. News of this move for “Twilight,” which stars Harry Potter actor Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), also made it over to MTV which quotes Rob Friedman from Summit Entertainment as saying they saw “a unique opportunity to slot in our film, which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months.”

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” will now have its release on July 17, 2009.

I have never even read this books but i do have friends who are also HP fans who have. Its not this movies or the casts fault that HP got bumped and this is taking its original slot to boycott it is pretty childish imo.

Folks, I am saddened by the news that I will have to wait another 8 months to pay for the privilege of seeing a film that a) I know will be fantastic b) I will see more than once in the theater and c) I will have forgotten how disappointed I am right now.

You KNOW you all will too despite feeling personally let down by the movie company’s weird decision. But I hope it makes you feel better to complain about it so bitterly. I’m surprised at all of the hate here now.

This is ridiculous. The timing of Harry Potter coming out was perfect for me! I was going to spend five weeks in Holland and come back, and then Harry Potter would be out in the next month! So I would have been having a great time getting all hyped up! I think that you had an excellent idea Ty, who said that they were going to be seeing Twilight in Ravenclaw’s robes. I for one, will be holding a massive Harry Potter party on the 21st November, and I’ll be watching all the movies, and dressing up, and making signs. Most unfortunately, my friends do not realise what has happened, as I am the only one that is updated on HP and actually cares about what happens, and so they will think, even though they all ready do, I’m an annoying lunatic, who holds random HP parties! Honestly, I am looking foward to Twilight, but not as much as HP. And if WB don’t think they will get as much people (Which may be true, but let me have another reason to et annoyed.) then just look at HPOP. Both the cinemas that was holding the film at the same time, was literally full, there was actually people sitting in the eisle on the stairs and standing in the exit hoping to get a glimpse(although I thought the movie could have been a bit better but all the same)...MONEY OVERLOAD! This has ruined my life(over exxagurated but not by much.). I have now gone in to my hidy hole and started watching the other Harry Potter movies and reading the books, I even watched December Boys, I actually thought that was quite good. I am now looking out for Ballet Shoes, and I have recently noticed that Emma and Daniel play orphans, I’m also looking out for…er…I can’t remember what it’s called but it has Rupert in it:P. Ok, I’ve finished my annoying rants but I will still go on about it at school…what do they think they’re doing…waiting till I’m in year nine…pulls out rest of the movies and tip toes over to DVD player.

I’m really sorry that people is taking it out on Twilight.. it’s very disappointing!!! I love Twilight and I’m happy they moved it up….. WE ONLY NEED TO BLAME IT ON WB, no others….. Twilight is trying to make its fans happy….. WB clearly isn’t!! So lets just try to find a way to have the release date change again, back to November and let’s not offend other fans in the process.

Look I don’t see why anyone feels the need to get pissy just because Twilight took over HBP’s old release date. I mean, I’m pretty annoyed that I have to wait untill next year to see it…but I’m happy that it’s at least being replaced by what looks to be a really good movie.

As a fan of the Potter movies, this delay is a huge disappointment, but I can see why it could be a positive for the studio. If revenues do not increase from the previous year, it could mean job cuts for those working in the film industry. 2009 must have been looking weak compared to a strong 2008. They need to spread the blockbusters to help support the ‘average’ releases, and avoid layoffs down the road. I’m sure this decision was not made lightly. Unfortunately, they often make mistakes (The Golden Compass).

On the other hand, Summit took advantage of the opportunity to add 3 weeks in 2008 to a movie that needs to do well if any sequels are to be made. Disney did the same with Bolt, moving it up a week. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are a few more schedule changes because of HBP moving to July 2009.

Read Sue’s post in the Leaky blogs, it’s great and addresses the issue of the HP release date move in a personal way.

yeah, yeah. none of this complaining is going to make any difference, because you all are going to go and see twilight anyway. and you’re all going to forget your hate mail and boycotts when hpb DOES come out next summer. wb gets their money, and you’ve all helped prove to them that they can mess with fans and still get paid.

anybody here actually have the willpower to boycott the hpb movie and make a REAL statement? didn’t think so. wb will be laughing while they read your hate mail sitting on a pile of your money.

frankly, i dunno why people are getting so upset that twilight has moved up… if you’re not into the series, you’re not gonna be watching it either way, so why waste your time & energy freaking out so much?? if i were a twilight fan i would be super-ecstatic right now, to be perfectly honest… at least someone is getting something good out of this whole fiasco!! i suppose the big deal is that it adds a sense of finality to the new date, but, really, i doubt it would’ve ever gotten changed back anyway. welcome to this machine we call capitalist society… once they realized they’d get more money from a summer release, there was no hope… even if hardcore fans decide to boycott, they’ll get enough extra money from the mild fans to compensate the loss. don’t misunderstand me, i’m as bummed as the next person over the move, but i have better things to do with my time than dwell on something that’s not gonna change.

Honestly, after calming down and thinking about the WB fiasco with a clearer mind, I have to wonder if this is truly about finances alone. It is simply to late in the schedule for that to be the only reason. There are too many schedules being affected. Toy, game and collectable companies have their release schedules to suit the movie release time frame as well. They had to change the date on the trailer and other promotional materials. It just doesn’t make sense. If they really want even a shot at easing some of the havoc created by this pr disaster of a decision, they need to be upfront with us. Is this truly a financial issue or is there something going on behind the scenes. They need to show us the respect of a complete explanation instead of that tripe about “caring about the fans” if they want to retain even a hope of coming out of this unscathed.
