As it is now August, we have an exciting new contest to bring you today. The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Sorting Hat Song Contest asks you to provide the lyrics to the Sorting Hat song one would have heard during Harry’s seventh year at Hogwarts, the year following the Dark Lord’s downfall, or nineteen years in the future when Harry’s younger son first made his voyage across the Dark Lake. The Sorting Hat begins each year with sage advice and often words of warning to the newest Hogwarts students. For this contest, please pick one of those three time periods and write the lyrics you think the Sorting Hat would sing to accompany that time period. Please make sure your work is canon-based and between 150 to 200 words in length. Any person over the age of the 13 and not involved in the judging process may submit only one original PG13 approximate entry. Please submit your song lyrics to [email protected] by August 24, 2008 at 11:59 pm (EDT) with “Sorting Hat Song” in the subject line of the e-mail. Please copy-paste the song into the body of the e-mail and include a name to be used for authorship (real name or Leaky Lounge name). One grand prize winner will be chosen from the submissions and receive a custom made wand from Wizard Wood Wands. Full rules and guidelines for this contest can be found right here.

On a related note, the winners of the July contest, the Harry Potter Prequel Contest, have now been chosen and are ready to be announced. After receiving many splendid entries, the winners are:
