As we reported previously, the “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” film and a number of its cast, along with Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling, were nominees at the 2008 SyFy Genre Awards. These virtual awards allow fans to vote for their favorite film, series, book, and actor from the science fiction and fantasy genre each year. The winners of the SyFy Awards have been announced and include actress Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), in the category of Best Actress in a Film, as well as “Order of the Phoenix” in the category of Best Film. In addition to this, the article notes that Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling was chosen to receive the Gene Roddenberry Lifetime Achievement award. Congratulations to all!
I find it hilarious that anyone who can’t find a better argument calls everyone who puts Emma in a negative light a “hater”.
Uh, yes. ‘Hating’ means you don’t like something… so obviously they are “haters”. That’s just stupid and redundant.
I think Emma is popular, but not because of her talent. She certainly deserves all these popularity awards, but in no way does that make her “best actress” in any shape or form, especially not over Helena Bonham Carter, Clair Danes, Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow.
I say she can’t act worth a damn, and portrays Hermione’s character in a shallow and inexpressive way. The only thing that moves is her eyebrows. The movie-Hermione is either angry or smiles prettily. I’m sure Emma would fare well in other careers.
Calling me a hater? Jealous? Not really, I have to admit. I have better things to do than to care about careers of small celebrities.

Congrats to Emma, Jo and the cast & crew of OotP. Emma’s the best!!
I don’t hate Emma but i do hate her ‘acting’. She is awful and 2-dimensional in her portrayal of Hermione. She does not deserve an award for acting (especially over the other actresses). I’m sorry but those that voted for her are either blind, stupid or have no idea what good acting is.
Personally, I think Emma’s a wonderful actress and completely deserves this award. I just sort of wonder why people think she’s such a terrible actress when she beat hundreds of other girls for the role of Hermione and the last time I went to the movie theatre she was in previews for three different movies. Plus she’s a good role model seeing as she never gets into any trouble like many other actresses do which is especially good seeing as she was a child actress. Way to go Emma and Congrats to Jo too!
I love Emma’s vision of hermione. So does everybody else since she keeps winning. Love the haters comments they can’t come up with nothing new. Emma and jo are brillant. Emma rules. Classy lady.

I bet 99.99% of so called “Emma-haters” don’t even hate Emma at all, but are just not content with her acting. That’s how I feel. Yes, Emma is a great role model, she’s pretty, she’s nice, but can she act? Not really.
All you Emma fans are just clinging onto YOUR opinion, you don’t understand that other people have opinions that are different too.
Again, most “Emma-haters” don’t even hate Emma. They just don’t like her acting.
Congrats to all the OotP crew and cast. They all helped Emma and Jo. They deserve the awards. Emma is a great actress. Shes known as “one take Watson” for a reason.
Yay for Emma fans. I’m congratulating her more than the Emma herself who probably knows her limitations in acting. I do feel bad that Bonham Carter didn’t win. Granted that Carter is not an excellent actress but she is miles ahead of Watson. But as I’ve said before, you can’t discount the dedication of the Emma fans. They’re among the most active when it comes to Internet voting.
And why didn’t Dan win? If it’s a matter of popularity, isn’t he more popular than Johnny Depp? Okay, I take that back. Depp is in a league of his own. Besides, the Dan fans don’t seem to care for this kind of fan awards anymore. But hey, let me put all the blame on myself. I should have voted on this thingy everyday – or every hour. But I guess, like many Dan fans , I don’t find fan awards as gratifying as much as I used to. Guess we all have to grow up some time.
Helen,
Of course Dan’s more popular than Johnny Depp! I mean, Johnny Depp’s great and everything – and I like him a lot! but in this kind of thing I would automatically vote for Dan – If it was me or Dan in any award I would still automatically vote for Dan!
