As we reported previously, the “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” film and a number of its cast, along with Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling, were nominees at the 2008 SyFy Genre Awards. These virtual awards allow fans to vote for their favorite film, series, book, and actor from the science fiction and fantasy genre each year. The winners of the SyFy Awards have been announced and include actress Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), in the category of Best Actress in a Film, as well as “Order of the Phoenix” in the category of Best Film. In addition to this, the article notes that Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling was chosen to receive the Gene Roddenberry Lifetime Achievement award. Congratulations to all!

“I find it hilarious that anyone who can’t find a better argument calls everyone who puts Emma in a negative light a “hater”.

Uh, yes. ‘Hating’ means you don’t like something… so obviously they are “haters”. That’s just stupid and redundant.

I think Emma is popular, but not because of her talent. She certainly deserves all these popularity awards, but in no way does that make her “best actress” in any shape or form, especially not over Helena Bonham Carter, Clair Danes, Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow.

I say she can’t act worth a damn, and portrays Hermione’s character in a shallow and inexpressive way. The only thing that moves is her eyebrows. The movie-Hermione is either angry or smiles prettily. I’m sure Emma would fare well in other careers.

Calling me a hater? Jealous? Not really, I have to admit. I have better things to do than to care about careers of small celebrities.

well said, my friend, especially the eyebrows part, lol i remember reading a post somewhere about her being cast in napoleon and betsy and someone replied ‘Did the historical Betsy have Tourette’s Syndrome eyebrows?’ (something like that anyways) :D i couldn’t stop laughing for a good 10mins after i read that.

now i don’t think shes a bad person (how could i? i don’t even know her), but she seriously has to improve in the acting department

s’all i’m saying

You obviously have no idea what Tourette’s Syndrome is. Do you really think the eyebrow thing is funny anymore. I think the people who keep bringing it up are the joke. Is that all you got? There are plenty of amazing oscar winning/nominated actresses that use facial expressions including eyebrows to act. Watch any reese Witherspoon movies or renee zellweger movies. And over 50,000 ballots were cast for this award, and Emma won. Get over it. BTW, ever see Sweeney Todd or are you not old enough, Depp moves his eyebrows alot. And he also won. Maybe you should learn more about acting.

Congrats Emma and JKR!!!!!!!!!! They both completely deserved it!!!!! And for all you people who think Emma’s acting is not good, you’re wrong! It shows that the majority of people out there actually prefer emma’s acting than anyone elses. And HELLO, eyebrow acting is ACTING!! Seriously if anyone thinks emma’s acting is below there standards, maybe they should go try acting themselves if they think they know all about acting.

As much as I love Emma’s take on Hermione ever since Sorcerer’s Stone, the one actress who is woefully overlooked and I feel should have even deserved an Oscar nomination was Imelda Staunton. I was absolutely enthralled, and knocked over with her role as the evil Umbridge. She literally stole the movie in my opinion. It was a perfect performance that is almost (almost) on par with the Heath’s Joker in Dark Knight.

But kudos to Emma and Jo for their awards even though I feel its through popularity and in Emma’s case, perhaps glamour (?), that public votes edge them through. I dont mind. Emma is thoroughly enjoyable as Hermione (though I prefer her in years 1 and 2 before she got a little too intense in later movies). And of course Jo is the Queen of literature, and a living legend :)

Congratulations! You all deserve it, and – as much as I like Emma and the way she brings Hermione to life – especially Jo!

Professor Potter-

Umm you do realize that Imelda Staunton moved her eyebrows constantly thus she has to be the worst actor out of all of them. Really, they never stopped moving and from what I gather here- that’s bad acting because all these award winning actresses that post her know better. Umm, so although I also enjoyed Ms. Staunton’s performace I only managed to do so since I have no idea what good acting is.

I can’t get over the way so many fans grasp at straws when it comes to Emma’s acting. She is unconvincing at her delivery is terrible. If you cannot see her limitations then you are deluded. She was praised for the first 3 films but HP 4 and 5, she’s been awful. She will not last as an actress if she doesnt improve.

I’ve never been struck on Hermione in the books, except for in DH, so I am fine with the way Emma has portrayed her in the first four films. But one thing I would criticise her for is that she still isn’t getting across Hermione’s insecurity and softness as it appears in the books. That’s one thing I hope she can pull off in DH because that book really altered my perception of the three characters, and I absolutely loved Hermione in that book. She really showed off her tremendously gentle and caring side as well as her brains.

I can’t say I was overly impressed with her in OotP though. In some scenes she seemed forced, her words rushed out and she also seemed to be annoyed with the boys all the way through. One or two bits were good such as in the forest with the centaurs. She does ‘panic’ well.

Laurel: Congrats Jo, Emma and all the OotP cast and crew! You deserve it . . .

Just a little side note to all you “Emma haters” out there if you disliked her performance and her so-called “poor acting skills” please try and keep it to yourself . . . it’s most unpolite to mock her achievements especially at a time when she has just won an award. Thank-you.

AGAIN CONGRATS TO ALL!

xx

Laurel: Just because we are some who think Emma´s “acting” is crap, doesn´t mean we shouldn´t be allowed to voice our opinions, as long as we´re NOT calling her stupid and ugly, and I don´t see any comments here calling her that.

I think Emma is smart, beautiful, intelligent, down to earth…..But her “acting”......aaaarggghhhhh
