There are a number of new photos online this evening from the upcoming “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” video game. The eighteen new photos appeared online and show shots of the video game in action along with some interesting pictures from the various scenes from the Play Station 2 platform. This set of images also includes more shots of the Hogwarts grounds, the Potions classroom, and more. As we reported previously, the video game will be released in November and is available via our very own Cauldron Shop on the PS3, PS2, Nintendo DS, Sony PSP and XBOX360, PC, and Wii platforms.

Wow! Thank you for pictures.

Avatar Image says:

why the graphics look so bad?

Avatar Image says:

Cool, you can also explore the grounds!

Avatar Image says:

This looks awesome! But still I think that the graphics aren’t as good in this game as they were in OOtP

Avatar Image says:

this is probably from the ds format

Avatar Image says:

Yahhiesss bring on Nov :) this will keep me entertained untill the movie comes out in dec (Australia)

Avatar Image says:

Cool! I hope actual game will not look this bad when played on a good platform… gaming technologies are on a peak these days, and Harry Potter games should be in the best quality of the time… as they give the player a chance to get inside his/her favorite character and explore the fascinating world in real…..

Avatar Image says:

The graphics look bad cus the screens are from the ps2 version. If you look at the titles for each picture it says ps2 in brackets.

Avatar Image says:

I’m not impressed… I know the graphics are from PS2 but come on, I have Prisoner on PS2 and it looked WAY better than this. The graphics look as rough and angular as they did for the CoS game! And Harry looks so bad, I can’t believe the look of this game after the OotP game (which made up for in graphics what it lacked in innovative gameplay, imo).

Avatar Image says:

Doesn’t look like Ron and Hermione’s gonna run around with Harry this time, does it? Too bad, I liked their comments! Especially Ron’s :D

Avatar Image says:

Yeah I didn’t even think about that…

no ron or hermione…that’s horrible!

Avatar Image says:

Well, I’d rather have bad graphics if it means that the gameplay will actually be good. They seem to spend so much time making it Really Look and Feel Like Hogwarts that the controls suck and the game itself is boring, short, and way too easy.

Avatar Image says:

The graphics and layout look the same as OOTP so lets hope they have better game play (online on some formats?) Ron and Hermione’s comments drove me mad in the last game (bashing them with benches was a highlight). The duelling club looks dull too. I would love to have it MUD though.

Fingers crossed.

Avatar Image says:

kool too bad it doesnt come for xbox, in the ootp i got stuck with lunas lost things! i looks kool though

Avatar Image says:

Looks interesting…we shall see.

Avatar Image says:

I thnk the graphics will be better on xbox 360 or ps3 or whatever.. the pictures are from ps2 and lets face it not many people have ps2 anymore

Avatar Image says:

Not necessarily….

Believe it or not, the PS2 is still selling strong. In fact, 2008’s first quarter was the first time that Sony sold more PS3 units than PS2 units.

They sold just over 1.5 million PS2s in the first quarter alone.

Ironically, the PSP outsold both the PS2 and PS3 with 3.72 units.

And just so we show some love to 360 this was the first year that Microsoft saw a profit from the 360. And, yes, the Wii continues to dominate over both Sony and Microsoft.

But, yeah, those HP game pics are kinda bad. I wish they’d make a good All-Quidditch game.

Avatar Image says:

The reason it doesn’t look as good is because they’re porting over to the ps2 (where the pics are from) from the ps3. The older ps2 games looked better because they were built for that machine therefore they made it a little more cartoony because it worked better.

I liked OotP on the Wii but the unlockables were really lame and the school wasn’t as detailed as I was expecting. This is their last chance to get Hogwarts right and I hope they take it. I want to see EVERYTHING damit, not just the rooms and corridors in the movie.

Avatar Image says:

Njds, I agree actually, I WOULD prefer better gameplay. It was so weird with OotP because they literally had all of Hogwarts… and all there was to do were stupid repetitive tasks like lighting lamps and finding people (which wasn’t even difficult, you just followed the steps!). Oh and some battles where your victory was predetermined. Waste of time! I personally hope for something a little more Legend of Zelda esque – in there they have a fantastic world, innovative dungeons, but the best part for me is actually the in-between gameplay. Running around Hyrule Field exploring every possible thing, finding Gold Skulltula (not just in every tree/on every wall, you actually have to search for them), gaining Epona, etc. You can make that game your own, getting more hearts and a better sword to make your quest easier, but not key tasks you have to do to advance in the game (those tasks are usually pretty organic too, so they don’t seem forced).

I haven’t played GoF and I wish I had because even though it wasn’t as open-play it at least seemed a bit more game-like. PoA is my favourite game so far, because even though the dungeons were very minigame-like and looked like puzzles, the in-between gameplay was pretty good (and I loved being able to play as Ron and Hermione!). But so far, no HP game has seriously impressed me.

Avatar Image says:

Oh yeah the laughing Man, the current Quidditch game is RIDICULOUS, so formulaeic! There’s not even actual gameplay involved, you just hit the button many times fast and hope for the best! My little brother loves it though, he thinks he’s good at it, he hasn’t even noticed how simple it is…

Avatar Image says:

@selina – Crap, I was afraid that was the case. Quidditch absolutely BEGS to be a game. And a good one. THey could it make it 3rd person, first person, or even Madden-esque. Imagine being able to play with friends as a keeper, beater, chaser or a Seeker.

I read somewhere that PoA is the better of the HP games. I think they would do better by making a game based on the book rather than the movie. Or making a game that was independent of both.

Or give it up and make a Lego Harry Potter game and just make it good fun.

Avatar Image says:

oh, and in the background you can see TWO totally new towers that have come from nowhere. woop-dee-doo.

Avatar Image says:

plus, where the HELL is that meant to be?! http://www.valhalla.pl/img.php?id=59960

Avatar Image says:

simon, the place on that picture is probably up on the wall that is around the courtyard where Harry had his first flying lesson.

Avatar Image says:

The lack of screenshots of actual gameplay mechanics makes me a little nervous. The environment looks nice, but the character models look really bad. I think they were even better in OoTP.

LEGO Harry Potter would be too awesome for words. ;)

Avatar Image says:

cool screenshots,it looks like the size of the envirment around hogwarts is improved. it would be cool if they release some more ps3/X360 screenshots and a development videos like with ootp

Avatar Image says:

nice cover

Avatar Image says:

sorry i posted it 4 times

Avatar Image says:

I’m gonna agree with what I’m hearing… NO HP game has impressed me… They’ve really been guilty pleasures, because they are bad games that happen to have some fanservice for book fans that the movies don’t have.

Avatar Image says:

@ didoniac—it isnt, because you can see that wall further away in the photo. and even if it was, thats WAY too far away.

i hate the way the directors keep adding random stuff to hogwarts and think no one will notice.

1st two films were fine. 3rd film they changed the 3 towers on the right hand side of the castle, added the owlery and added the clock tower. 4th film they got rid of the marble staircase/entrance hall and added the new entrance hall and courtyard. 5th film – added nothing. 6th film – they seem to have added 2 new tower (one probably the astronomy tower) and the boundary walls + gate.

i doubt this annoys anyone else, but it sure does with me! aha

Avatar Image says:

hi. i love hp

Avatar Image says:

well, simon, i dont know . aha

Avatar Image says:

simon, first of all… Where do you see that wall? Secondly, if you study the pictures, you will see that they have removed the building closest to the quidditch pitch on this picture from SS/f: http://www.overseaspropertymall.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/hogwarts03b.jpg

Then they have replaced it with the smaller of the two new HBP towers: http://www.valhalla.pl/img.php?id=59962 (the one closest to Harry). As you can see, the new tower is located just a little bit more to the left (as seen on the SS/f picture) of where the old building was. That is why it looks so far from the wall, and that is also why the herbology towers look so close to the new tower.

Avatar Image says:

Oh, and btw, I like how they change Hogwarts in the movies. Why? Well, the books say that the rooms and staircases at Hogwarts move! And for rooms to move, buildings have to be moved, changed or added.

Avatar Image says:

well, on that specific picture you can’t see the wall, because the building harry’s in is blocking the view, but if you look at the picture you provided you will see the wall just to the left of the new tower.

if you look at any map of hogwarts (mine for example) you will see the wall is right next to the old+new tower and the greenhouses.

and yes, i do agree with you with the fact that rooms are meant to move around in hogwarts, but it is a bit too far as to think new buildings appear out of nowhere.

Avatar Image says:
  • actually, dont look at the map I made because I have made a few mistakes with the placement of the wall.

but if you want to have a look anyway:

http://fanart.the-leaky-cauldron.org/picture/view/5762

Avatar Image says:

and another reason why it annoys me is that in PS the astronomy tower is mentioned very detailed aswell, so why didnt the director at the time add in a tower that could relate to it, even if it wasn’t used in the movie, without waiting for HBP to arrive and thinking ‘oh no we need a tower for a fight to happen randomly adds a new tower

Avatar Image says:

that was meant to say “Oh no, we need a tower for a fight to happen” randomly adds a new tower

for some reason it doesn’t show asterix’s.

Avatar Image says:

wth man. since when does ’ – ’ mean cross out something.

meh, you catch my drift.

Avatar Image says:

Yeah, and if you look at any map of Hogwarts except yours (which you admit you made mistakes on), that little wall you’re talking about (which I wasn’t even referring to) goes from the castle and out some 50 metres and then it goes in two directions: Towards the lake, surrounding the greenhouses. The one going the other direction should eventually take you to the location where Harry is standing in that picture.

http://www.hp-lexicon.org/atlas/hogwarts/atlas-h-movie_map.html

Avatar Image says:

but surely, in this picture:

http://www.valhalla.pl/img.php?id=59960

you would see the rest of the wall heading up to the castle (but you can’t because of the building he is in, is in the way.

BUT.

from this picture:

http://www.valhalla.pl/img.php?id=59962

you should be able to see a wall running towards the location where harry is in the other photo just to the right of him.

Avatar Image says:

i think it actually may be part of a new quidditch pitch kinda thing, like the old quidditch pitch with a bit of building attatched to it..

because i was also wondering what this room was:

http://www.valhalla.pl/img.php?id=59967

its some sort of tent (maybe the entrance to the quidditch changing rooms, or just the quidditch pitch) and theres also a broom stick there and (it looks like) trophy cabinets. Through the open door you can also see a bit of castle which may be where Harry was in the other photo?

Avatar Image says:

OMGGG, it also looks like theyve gotten rid of the DADA tower aswell!!!! :@

Avatar Image says:

Well, it doesn’t look like the view you have from the HBP-game’s quidditch pitch… It’s too close and looks totally wrong. Look at the first seconds of the trailer for yourself (BTW, you will also see the top of the new tower which probably is the astronomy tower).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N6PCPheUhE

The only thing I see to the right of Harry on that picture is a cliff and if you look at the map to determine how long the wall should be and how it goes after emerging into two parts (based on Quentin’s map it shouldn’t go straight up, rather it makes a turn and then goes there), and then compare it with how far away from the castle Harry is, the wall should be on the LEFT!

Avatar Image says:

Hey x

Looks okayish but I’m not really into the games so much they never follow the story and Ron and Hermione’s constant comments drive me mad! Doesn’t look like that’ll be happening this time though! : )

xxxx

Avatar Image says:

the big tower you see from the quidditch pitch is the owlery which is atop a hill near the quidditch pitch, in the background beyond that you can see the two identical towers to the left of it.

and just look at these two pictures and relate them to each other:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b106/Luminaras/walltowercliff.png

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b106/Luminaras/walltowercliff2.png

Avatar Image says:

but as you see, on the first picture, they have just leveled out the sloping lawn to just a flat lawn, which is BEYOND the wall.

Avatar Image says:

No, the big tower is the new astronomy tower (previously DADA), not the Owlery. Look at the HBP picture seen from the wall and you will see it.

Well, the cliff has changed since the first movie as you can see in PoA/f: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b68/didoniac/hogwartsazkaban.jpg?t=1218150262

Add the new look and examine the picture you just edited and you get this: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b68/didoniac/hogwarts.jpg?t=1218150248

Avatar Image says:

cant be bothered argueing about this anymore haha, we shall see when the game comes out ;)

Avatar Image says:

For all the people talking about the map, the part of the geography I can’t quite wrap my head around is the kitchens which are exactly the same size and height as the great hall above it… So, what, is it Magically magnified, or is there just a huge open space that sits on the ground, and the great hall is, like, 4 or 5 stories up?

Avatar Image says:

They’ll probably scrap the idea of the kitchens being right under the great hall, if you look just to the left of the entrance courtyard there is a small round building which might be it.. Or they may not even want the kitchens in the movie so they’ll proceed with the way the food just appears there by magic, but that clashes with that rule about not being able to materialize food out of nowhere.

Avatar Image says:

i realy like these games it realy fun but my sis and i realy want these games 2 be 2 player but we here it is onley in mini games!!!

Avatar Image says:

Avatar Image says:

The pics are just samples and i dont think that they are 4 xbox 360 or ps3, maybe nintendo ds or something, and the pictures and graphics will look better once we get to play the final game, so just be patient.

Avatar Image says:

For PS2 qualty is okay. PC/360/PS3 will be with better quality, i guess.
