At the recent National Movie Awards, actress Emma Watson made very brief comments to reporters on the red carpet regarding the delay of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” In this video via YouTube, Emma can be heard saying what while she feels they have done the right thing for the movie, she also appeared sympathetic as she noted it was terrible that fans don’t get an installment in the series this year and that the suspense will make it even better once we get to see it. Emma has also updated her blog at her official website noting how much fun she had at the movie awards. You can see photos of Emma at the event here in our image galleries, new photos at her official site taken by her father, and additional videos of Emma at the awards ceremony via our Order parter Emma-Watson.net.

It must be difficult and awkward for the stars when such decisions are taken by the studio. Even though I’m mad at WB for the date change, I won’t really scrutinise Emma’s statements. I’m just glad she put in a word for the fans. This change really has nothing to do with her, or any of he cast as such.

On a side note, she looks beautiful as usual in the pictures!

Regarding the dark eyebrows comment, I have the same thing going on as her. My hairs roughly the same color as hers and my eyebrows are a very dark brown/black.

Her dress isn’t something I’d necessarily pick out, but hey, everybody has their own taste. She still is pretty though.

Her comments are just merely comments. I’m sure she’s not allowed to say she doesn’t agree with WB, but I’m happy she said something about the fans.

Yep, the dress is very Empress Josephine-like and yes, better posture would have helped it look more regal. In the photo from the front with her hair up, it looked like she lopped off the long hair and had a kinda cute new short & sassy ‘do. But then the other pix showed that it was pinned up. I think she’d look cute with shorter hair once her HP commitments are over. I think many blondes have a similar issue with their hair and eyebrows. Probably best to leave those colors be as I’ve seen ghastly results from people trying to dye their eyebrows.

Emma’s real hair color is brown – her eyebrows stand out more because she has her hair dyed blonde… I guess that’s one of the latest styles these days, which I think is a little bit tiresome. Also, each of the trio have movie/play commitments to fill out their time between HBP and DH pt. 1… hmm. Does it seem coincindental that their other commitment schedules just happen to begin right after the filming completion of HBP? I mean, it was known well ahead of time that Dan was scheduled to do Equus in the fall of ‘08, but when rumors started to hit the media that Emma was going to star in the “Napoleon and Betsy” film, her official website said it wasn’t confirmed yet. Then a few months later after the filming of HBP was completed, it was announced in the media that she’d begin filming around the fall of ‘08. I think ONE of the reasons for WB’s decision to delay the film release had something to do with the “main” actors other commitments this year. Promotion of the film would’ve conflicted with their production schedules for their perspective film projects. This delay also presented an opportunity for Rupert to do another film this year as well. If there is any truth to this, the main actors have a lot to do with the delay of the film release. Ultimately, it’s a win-win situation for all of them. This is just my take on all this.

Did Emma say something about the movie being moved for the awards’ season? So, does that mean that we might have an HP movie that’s Oscar worthy? Hope so. It makes sense for WB to concentrate only on promoting Dark Knight for the Oscars. Blah, all these speculations make the waiting more tiresome…

Ed Black – you really shouldn’t be so selective about HBP reviews. There are far more positive ones on IMDB, MuggleNet etc. Keep an open mind and decide for yourself. ( Yes, I know we’ve a long wait. )

Sky News has a longer quote about her comments on the HBP Delay: “Good things come to those who wait. I’m not involved in that decision, but it was the best thing for the film. The hype is huge.” (Sky News, 3:26am UK, Tuesday September 09, 2008)

The actors and actresses are just their puppets lol. And plus, why do they care when it’s released? They get to have the fame, money, and know of the scenes ahead of time anyway since they acted them out and read the scipt… so of course they wouldn’t really care.

Scully – I have seen the reviews on the sites that you mention, however when the reviews say that key elements of the story (i.e. no death eater battle, no funeral for Dumbledore) are not in the film, I become concerned. I realize that they can’t put everything in the movie, and that the film will probably receive further editing before the release date, but if they leave out key scenes & major events, then the story will be lacking.

@bambie:

Bambie, I don’t think that makes any sense or holds much truth. Movies that are up for Oscars are usually released during December. That’s when you see a flood of dramas hitting theaters. Sometimes you’ll get one that was released in the fall/autumn, but that’s as far back as I’ve seen them go (though I’m sure there are outliers). I really doubt David Yates & co. are trying to get any Oscars for the acting in the film. Maybe for DH, but not for HBP.

She’s hardly going to complain about it now is she. WB pays her salary and she’s going to stay loyal. I did chuckle at her saying it’s “the best thing for the film”, yeah right, in terms of intending to make more money from the Summer market. Poor child has no idea. Not a fan of the dress, didn’t really flatter her but she’s young and we all make mistakes fashion-wise.

Oh and Benet, not all English folk like her dresses (just as I doubt that just because someone was American it wouldn’t mean they loved Paris Hilton). Please don’t generalise, it makes you sound silly. I certainly think her taste is quite questionable and I am English.

@ Ed Black – I understand your concerns and yes, those expecting a scene by scene translation of the book will no doubt be disappointed. However, I’ve seen a ‘purist’ reviewer who admits to plot concerns but still believes HBP to be the best movie so far. Another on MuggleNet who hated OotP says the same. This doesn’t make them right and negative reviews wrong – I’d just ask for an open mind.

Firstly, the dress was gorgeous, but SOMEONE should tell the girl how to stand in a dress like that! The still shots all show her slouching and dropping one shoulder, which completely ruins the effect of the gown. You can slouch in jeans and a tee shirt, but in a dress like this you need to stand tall and put your shoulders back to carry it with elegance.

Secondly, the words coming out of her mouth are purely studio brainwashing. They’ve told her to say “it’s the best thing for the film” – what, did they sit down with “the film” and discuss it over a cup of tea? And “the film” said, “Yes, really, it’s the best thing for me, dear.” What a load of hooey.

You can tell she thinks it’s a load of hooey, too, by the way she makes her exit – she looks like she wants to get the heck out of there before she’s mobbed by a bunch of angry HP fans.

I´m sorry I´m just in the mood for some WB hating. They are STUPID. They´re ruining the series. If they had cared more about doing things right, something like lord of the rings, they would make an incredible amount of money, they would please not only fans of the book, everyone else would like to see it. It makes so much money ONLY BECAUSE OF FANS LIKE US. And they screw it! They are, in short, LAZY.
