In the wake of a tragic accident that took part in pre-production for the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Potter film producers will be improving on their safety standards. The Telegraph reminds us that David Holmes, stunt double for actor Dan Radcliffe (Harry), was seriously injured while rehearsing an aerial sequence, and subsequently a formal investigation into the accident has been ongoing. The paper reports that the Health and Safety Executive in the UK has “issued an interim improvement notice. It means that DDD Co Ltd, set up for the production of the film for which Mr
Holmes was practicing stunts, has until the end of June to make improvements.A spokesman said: “The investigation is still ongoing. As a remedial act
we have issued an improvement notice to the company asking them to improve
the way they do stunt rehearsals using wires.”They have got two months to look at that.”

They ought to heighten safety measures of course, after what happened with Holmes.Avatar ImageDrome says: Well... it's good to know. :)Avatar ImageProfessorPotter says: Its all to easy for big productions to get a little complacent so its a good thing to have these investigations to keep them in check. There have actually been a number of "minor" accidents that involved even main stars. Daniel Craig got injured on set for instance. But they get brushed off of course. But there was always a cause for concern. So its good this ultimatum warning has been issued and hopefully all studios will tighten up. Avatar ImageArthur22 says: I hope this make sure that there are no more acidents.Avatar Imagebudgie says: I like an exciting movie, but not any real danger for the actors. It's good that they are double checking safety.Avatar Imagemoglet says: It is right that they get a reminder to make sure that stunts are organised with care to minimise the possibility of accidents. I think ther will probably always be some accidents, the nature of the work is inherently dangerous, so no one must be taking anything for granted.Avatar ImagePrisoner Of Azkaban says: This is good. Always nice to hear them thinking of the safety of the actors. Hope he makes a full recoveryAvatar Imagekbicprez says: I'm glad to see this happen. There are a lot of stunts they'll have to do for DH and they'll need to be very careful.Avatar ImageR-for-H says: I'm glad this is happening... I feel really sorry for the guy who got hurt!Avatar Imagemollywobbles23 says: tbh, I am always terrified for the actors' safety, so this makes me feel better.Avatar ImageOwlpost Hedwig says: This is a good thing to hear. As moglet says, I hope that the person who was injured makes a full recovery.Avatar Imageshellybasson says: This is good to know. I feel so sorry for the stuntman who got hurt. I hope he will recover fully after the unfortunate accident... :(Avatar Imagelurking_llama says: It is certainly good that WB are being made to make improvements. I know that accidents will always happen and when a person takes a job as a stunt double they know the risks which they are taking however it is always good to see that companies are being made to keep themselves in check and keep the best interests of their employees as a first priority.Avatar Imageloony_slytherin says: Yay for being safe!Avatar ImageMatea says: In DH we also have broom, dragon flying, all kinds of stuff... everthing for HP cast safety. Avatar Imagemugglemom4 says: It would have been nice if there are improvements to be made they would have done so from the beginning instead of being made to do it. Avatar Imageblackhair says: that should be serious secrity measures be takenAvatar Imageblackhair says: well its never too late Avatar ImageBoyWithALightningScar says: Do we know how this David Holmes is doing? Has he recovered?Avatar Imageblackhair says: In DH we also have broom, dragon flying, all kinds of stuff… everthing for HP cast safety.Posted by Matea on May 06, 2009, 01:36 PM this movie is all abt action and accident and there are changes for any untowards to happen so thats y they should take security improvemnt actionsAvatar Imagehbp will be betterthan tdk says: this is goodAvatar ImageWendelin the Weird says: Good to know. Hope David Holmes gets better soon!Avatar ImageDanielaNC says: It's never bad to be double check everything. Good for WB.Avatar Imagefloridianhp says: interestingAvatar Imageavrenim says: that's a good thing, i thought they would have done this by now considering the accident was a few months ago.. but better late than never! i hope he recovers!Avatar ImageEmmaLouise says: To be fair, they've managed 6 films without anyone getting injured and it sounded like this accident was an isolated incident. I'm not saying that it's not good that they've increased the safety measures but I doubt very much that needed to do a great deal more than they previously had.Avatar ImageWingardium Leviosa says: It's good that they are concerned about safety.Avatar ImageHPNAIV says: I'm happy to hear this! I feel SO bad for the guy :(Avatar Imageplacebowiz says: safety firstAvatar ImageErinM says: Do we know the current condition of Mr. Holmes? Has his mobility improved?Avatar ImageHeavenly_Horcrux says: It's good they are making improvements.Avatar Imagebecmajec says: I hope the guys gets betterAvatar Imagehpftw says: Cheers for safety!Avatar Imagelumosshimmy says: It's just so strange and frustrating that safety wasn't bumped up -- prior to this accident! I feel like the entertainment industry takes a lot of care regarding safety, so an incident resulting in a serious injury is just so disappointing. I know that accidents happen, but I just hope that film companies take as much care of their stunt people as they do their main stars. Avatar ImageKiwiBrian says: This could be the first step towards a prosecution. I look forward to hearing any future developments around this matter.Avatar ImageKiwiBrian says: This could be the first step towards a prosecution. I look forward to hearing any future developments around this matter.Avatar ImageRachael says: I'm glad their doing this. Hopefully no one else will be injured.Avatar ImageAvangelis says: totally safeAvatar ImageAvangelis says: i hope that dude can still get onwith his lifeAvatar ImageBoyWithALightningScar says: I don't think there's going to be a prosecution. After all, stuntmen are fully aware that there's gonna be risks. And the contracts without a doubt relieve the studio of any major responsability. Not that it's perfectly acceptable to have such incidents happen, just saying it is a dangerous job and everyone, including the stuntmen knows it.Avatar ImageEnricoDc says: Accidents are normal on the Film making especially on Action-Epic, Very intense movie like Harry Potter. I wish David Holmes is better now. Avatar ImageaaTmaHira says: I just hope he's alright now...Avatar ImageLivelaughlovepotter says: I'm glad everyone'll be safe :].Avatar Imagecabo says: It's good that they are improving safety measures. There's really no need for people getting hurt just because of a movie.Avatar ImageVerity Weasley says: What about an update on the stunt double. How's he doing?Avatar Imagemaera-kyrie says: Glad they're doing this.Avatar Imagevicky granger says: That's good =)Avatar ImageHagrid 713 says: I hope David Holmes isn't forgotten and I hope he gets wellAvatar Imagehermyone08 says: It's good to know that they are changing things.Avatar Imagebrentbrehony says: Safety First I say!!Avatar Imagetourdefrance says: Yes this is good indeedAvatar Imagejessica911jc says: Well, to be honest I don't think big movie componies really care. Because in twilight the stunt double for Edward Cullen he got a pretty bad concusson and was back the next day no complants. I personaly think that they are afraid to do any thing about it. But hay being safer is for the most part great.Avatar Imagelilhpchick20 says: Good to hear.Avatar Imagelifa says: I am glad to hear that they need to double check their safety. As we all know, there could be a lot of scenes in the last two movies that could be dangerous for the actors to film and their lives are more important than an exciting movie. I hope that he makes a good recovery.Avatar Imagecheeserpleaser says: It is a relief to hear that they are making improvements in order to prevent accidents such as the one that transpired from ever occurring again. It is a pity that such an event had to fall upon anyone and let us hope that something similar does not happen to anyone else on any movie set.
