Actor Bill Nighy has given more details on his role as Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Scifiwire.com spoke with the actor who stated again he will be filming his role in the next few weeks, and also gave some more detail about one scene, which readers will recall happens in The Will of Albus Dumbledore chapter:

“Well, there’s one where he comes and delivers Dumbledore’s [Michael
Gambon] legacy to the three children,” Nighy replied, referring to
Harry, Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint, with whom Nighy
worked on the upcoming action-comedy Wild Target). “He gives
them all of the things that Dumbledore has left them, and that’s when
it’s first indicated that he may not be around for much longer. So it’s
quite an affecting scene.”

He also speaks again on the character, noting “Scrimgeour is a rather tragic figure, without giving too much away,”
Nighy said. “But there’s no giving too much away, because everybody’s
read the books. So he’s a kind of tragic figure. You have that element.
And he knows what’s coming. So that’s a very moving thing to play. He’s
also very powerful, and he’s had a very complicated progress to the
top. And he has an interesting relationship with Harry [Daniel
Radcliffe], because Harry views him initially with complete contempt,
but then it’s softened by subsequent events.”
UPDATE: MTV now has a video interview online where he briefly says that yes he is playing Rufus Scrimgeour

Explaining the Deathly Hallows properly. The snitch! the deluminator! Beedle the bard! wow. CA-NOT WAIT!Avatar ImageHarryRichardsPotter says: i've only just seen the sixth film, and now i'm stupidly excited for the last two! God, help me get through this waiting. This film will be perfecto. Nothing can be missed out, they have no excuse! they have perfect liberty to film two, two hour movies. Where they can slip EVERYTHANG in it! You hear me Yates and Kloves? EVERYTHANG! and i'm just soooo over the moon that Hooper is gone gone GONE! williams will give the fantabulous mood it deserves with Hedwig's theme galorrrrrrrrrrrAvatar ImageHarryRichardsPotter says: now i notice that i've taken up three (four including this one) comment spaces. Avatar Imagemonicahp2009 says: It sounds like he's going to really do tha t role justice. I always thought he'd make a great scrimgeourAvatar ImageBillyMack1965 says: I have been a fan of both HP and Bill Nighy for quite a while, and to see two of my favourite things together is almost too much excitement! Avatar ImageEmilyDeibert says: Exciting! I was sad about the lack of Scrimgeour in Half Blood Prince (and, especially, Dumbledore's man through and through), but I'm happy he'll be in Deathly Hallows. Can't wait - only 490 days, right?Avatar ImageNot Slytherin says: I like Nighy, and I'm excited about his participation in DH!!!Avatar ImageJadeDanielle says: I hope they're able to make you care about who Scrimgeour is in the film. Since they left him out of HBP, the movies don't have any history with him at all. So I'm dubious about how "moving" it will be able to become in the film....we'll see! I love BIll Nighy, so....:)Avatar ImageMugglejeff says: Sounds really good.Avatar ImageWON_TWO says: He's gonna be good!Avatar ImageNoella_Mansrot says: Oh Gods, I simply love Nighy. I can't wait to see his take on Scrimgeour.Avatar ImageFloridianFlounder95 says: Awesome! I'm already counting down!!Avatar ImagePhylis says: All these tidbits are so exciting to read! Makes the waiting that much harder!Avatar ImagePigwidgeonPwns says: I hope he does an amazing job! Nighy, we're counting on you! No pressure, though, =]Avatar ImageWolfyWizard says: Nighy will be great in this film!Avatar ImageRemusRox says: Who else is excited about Bill Nighy being a part of this movie? He really seems to know the ins and outs of his character. I do believe he's read the books, what an interesting concept for an actor....Avatar Imageshellybasson says: I hope the DH films will ROCK!Avatar ImageAradion says: Scrimgeour is not a particularly nice character but I hope the actor will do the Minister's sacrifice in DH some justice.Avatar ImageAradion says: Anyway, I just hope DH is the best two-parts film yet and since HBP has got such good reviews, I guess that just marks the begining of an awesome end being the decisive threshold and all... Avatar ImageCatherine says: SO EXCITED!!! with all the scenes they r doing it sounds like they are fallowing the book!! yeah!Avatar ImageAurora_7 says: It sounds like Scrimgeour is going to have more to do in DH than there is in the book.Avatar ImageTschudiff says: I'm looking forward to seeing him.Avatar Imagegoodenough says: This makes me happy. I'm glad to hear they are keeping the sceen. Yeahy!!Avatar Imagebengtson_98 says: I so Excited for this movie!Avatar Imagebeewell says: Sounds like they are going to go this film true to the books. Can't wait to see it!Avatar Imagesinwillys822 says: it sounds like a good scene can't wait to see itAvatar ImageMoose_Starr says: I have always visualized Bill Nighy as Scrimgeour since the first time I read HBP. I still didnt see the movie but, I'm so not impressed they left Scrimgeour out. How could they not include the *Dumbledore's man through and through* line, which is one of the most quoted and most iconic lines of the entire HP series. Personally, I'm glad that the DH movie is being made in two parts because, there's some hope they'll include more events and people and, from Bill Nighy's interview it would seem that they are doing so. Bill Nighy is a great actor and I think he'll make a good Scrimgeour :)Avatar ImageMidnightSun321 says: cant wait 4 DH!!!!!!!!Avatar ImageScrtDracoFollwr says: Bill Nighy is a fav actor of mine! HE will be a perfaect addition to the HP cast!Avatar ImageAndreaB09 says: Im guessing that nighy in the film is going to portray a really good Scrimgeour, but me and him have 1 thing in common - i cant wait until that scene with the will either!!!!!Avatar ImageWicked_Lady says: Sounds great! When do you guys think we'll start seeing pictures of the movie? Not on location pics, b/c/ we have loads of those. But actual movie pics?Avatar Imageminishiva says: I really like him. I think he was an awesome choice for scrimgeour.Avatar ImageA Chocolate Frog says: I'm really excited for Bill Nighy to be in the films!! And I had to laugh really hard when I saw this article because I just read that scene last night. :)Avatar Imagelevi-OH-sa not levio-SA says: coolAvatar Imagelevi-OH-sa not levio-SA says: coolAvatar ImageTamyris says: I´m not excited about DH because I just can´t stop thinking about how awesome HBP was! Can´t stop thinking about it!!! I just can´t stop!!! I loved HBP so much!!!! HBP rocked my world!Avatar ImageTamyris says: I really liked they casted Nighy. It was a terrific choice. He is a marvelous actor and he wanted to participate, that is the most important. He was eager for it so it is almost a certain that he will do a good work.Avatar Imagefngw417 says: Another well casted part! Is anyone really surprised?Avatar Imageccking says: at least this scene will be included !! i'm so excited fro DH!Avatar Imagehewy says: He'll be great! Hope they give him a blonde wig to look like the lion he's described as in the books. Saw HBP and Cissy Malfoy had black and blonde hair in the books she is just as blonde as Lucius and Draco. Can these folks not read??Avatar ImageWingardium Leviosa says: I'm glad he's in DH, even though they didn't put him in HBP.Avatar ImageThe Azkaban Dietitian says: "...and that's when it's first indicated that he may not be around for much longer." I hope he's talking about Scrim and not Dd.. bc the latter is already dead, of course. Avatar Imagestevee23 says: I wholly approve of Bill Nighy being cast as Rufus Scrimgeour, I couldn't think of anyone better, but he should have also featured in HPB in order to illustrate Harry's disaffection with the Ministry and RS's policies and attitude in particular. I really enjoyed HBP - but there were several major changes I wasn't that happy with. The first is the Death Eaters' attack on the Burrow at Christmas instead of the confrontation between Harry and Scrimgeour, and another is the lack of a battle between Death Eaters and Order Members towards the end, just after Dumbledore's death; this ;ast omission caused the film to come to rather an abrupt end. Failing to introduce Scrimgeour in HPB is going to make for some tricky scriptwriting for the one and only scene featuring Scrimgeour in DH, since, although we know that Scrimgeour is eventually murdered, we only HEAR that is the case from Kingsley in the book. Quite how Bill is going to act out "So he's a kind of tragic figure. You have that element. And he knows what's coming. So that's a very moving thing to play" when there has been no introduction to this (from the movie point of view) is rather mystifying. I would also like to have seen the Dursleys ticked off by Dumbledore for their treatment of Harry over the years (instead of the "girl in the cafe" scene) and more made of the importance (and identification) of the Horcruxes. thus mapping out the road ahead. Sorry - bit of a long one but its off my chest now.Avatar Imageempressa says: excited to see bill nighy in this role. only scene him as davy jones in POC. didn't know who he was until i looked at the credits. Avatar Imagemynameisbrock says: looking forward to it! i believe this is the chapter with ginny and harry kissing at the burrow (correct me if i'm wrong). i'd say i'm more interested in seeing that hah ;)Avatar Imagekiwimci says: Yay, he's actually who I imagined as Scrimgeour funnily enough when reading. So I was over the moon when I found out he'd been cast. And got that perfectly right that's exactly how I felt about him, his practices were perhaps wrong but he was trying to do his best for the wizarding world and died on Harry's side than concede. So it'll be great to have somone as accomplished as Nighy to bring that forth, when lesser actors would have just made him a baddie. Oh and harryrichardspotter from page 1- Rhys Ifans is Welsh but I guess he'll be putting on an Irish accent for DH to keep in line with EvannaAvatar Imagepeaceforall says: Bill Nighy ROCKS! he is amazing, one of the best actors ever. I've always wanted him to do Harry Potter! and I think he will fit the role perfectly :)Avatar Imagesmgkkg says: I've seen the HP and Half-blood prince twice so far. I thought it was great. I would have like to have seen Scrimgeour in this movie. Hope DH turns out to be great!Avatar Imagesmgkkg says: I've seen the HP and Half-blood prince twice so far. I thought it was great. I would have like to have seen Scrimgeour in this movie. Hope DH turns out to be great!Avatar Imagesmgkkg says: I've seen the HP and Half-blood prince twice so far. I thought it was great. I would have like to have seen Scrimgeour in this movie. Hope DH turns out to be great!Avatar ImageJTEL99 says: It sounds like they've expanded the role of Scrimgeour somewhat, doesn't it? Bill Nighy is a great actor!Avatar ImageRavenclaw98 says: i cant wait to see how he dresses up in costumeAvatar Imagemakandcheese says: im glad that Bill Nighy is going to be Scrimgeor. ive loved him in Pirates of the Caribbean and i think he'll do a great job here :DAvatar Imagedoublecore says: I can wait for the DH movies. I am still in the glow of HBP. My third time will be in imax. I am sure there are alot of people who don't want it to end.Avatar Imagejediofthelost says: They choose the perfect person for Scrimgeour.Avatar Imagehermyone08 says: that's super exciting, nighy seems to know what's expected of him for dh, i can't wait! :)
