Well it isn’t quite a ship to launch a thousand faces, but rather it’s a launch of a thousand balloons to herald the release of pre-orders for the UK Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince DVD. Yes, really. According to Indie London, this Thursday, September 24, 2009 WB will launch 1,000 balloons which will “have a card attached featuring a unique code that will entitle the holder to register online for a chance to win a trip to the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, then “step on to a set for a unique and exciting filming experience, where
they will be filmed in the role of one of the magical framed “moving”
portrait characters that have adorned the walls of Hogwarts in all of
the Harry Potter films. The launch takes place at 1pm at the Millennium Bridge (beside City of
London School), and will be done by Harry Potter stars Evanna Lynch (aka Luna Lovegood) and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom).”

Open to UK residents aged 18 and over, if you are lucky enough to catch one of these balloons you have to register online at this link (currently not yet working) between October 1, 2009 and December 4, 2009 for entry into the grand prize draw. Good Luck!

Avatar Imageclashcityrocker13 says: omg how amazing would that be!! I wish they would do that here!Avatar ImagesHeLbsS says: thats awesome...wish i was in the UK. perhaps one will blow across the sea to my country.....or maybe not. haha~Avatar Imagejoelface says: That's so cool. What a way to have a competition launched!? PS: The oun was an unfortunate coincidenceAvatar Imagebooklover4414 says: That's so AWESOME!!!! Wish that would happen here in the US!!!!Avatar ImageMydrgnfly says: How awesome!!Avatar ImagePhoenix1946 says: How about this? Instead of tying the coupon to the baloon, have the balloon lift a light-weight model Owl with the coupon tied to it's leg. When the balloon pops, the Owl glides down with the coupon. Much more Harry Potterish. It would be nice if they did it in the U.S. for us Colonials.Avatar ImagetheREALGinnyWeasley says: OH MY GOD THAT IS AMAZING!!! I WISH I WAS 18 OR OVER AND LIVED IN THE UK!!!!!!! Jealous.......Avatar Imagecleverssynonym says: a complaint about the effects of this on the environment in three...two...Avatar ImageWingardium Leviosa says: This would be amazing to win! I just wish I was a UK resident over 18... :-(Avatar Imagemaimiaa says: ugh! lucky! sigh. wish i lived in the UK geez.Avatar ImageNimbus-X says: What is this? The "kill 1,000 sea turtles" ad campaign? It's a known fact that ballons kill sea turtles and lots of other marine life. I can't believe this.Avatar Imagemagicmaniac says: I wish i was 18 or over in the uk.But killing marine life sucks!Avatar Imageizziewitch says: I agree. Launching 1000 balloons into the air is a bad decision on WB's part; they're lethal to so many air and water creatures. The idea is neat, the execution is not.Avatar ImageHermione Elizabeth says: The idea is neat, but it does sound a bit odd. It would be awesome to be the lucky person to get the right code though!Avatar ImageIceholic says: I'm with Nimbus-X, what a bad move from WB. I'm sure they could come up with something more environment-friendly. Corporal social responsibility is the way to go in the XXI century. Avatar ImageUntitled says: Oh man, that sounds really awesome, wish I was in the UK :[ It'd also be funny to see who is really a Potter fan, because they'll always have their eyes on the sky xD This is from an environmental stand point, a bad idea however. It could hurt a lot of animals :[ Neat idea, just not the best idea. Avatar Imageselene21 says: I want a balloonAvatar ImagePsyconorikan says: Man people will always find a reason to stir things up. Lighten up. Seriously.Avatar Imagelady_anne says: what? they can't manage to sell the DVD without all this gimmicks? c'mon this is just going cheap.Avatar ImageJananae says: That's so awesome! Too bad I don't live in the UK :(Avatar ImageLisbry says: Cool idea! Guess it'd bad for the environment, yeah, but almost everything we do do hurts the environment some way. I mean just sitting here in front of a computer doesn't help too much, and I guess had they come up with another way too launch this thing, someone would probably find another thing to remark on there too. This doesn't mean I don't feel sorry for the marine life and stuff, just don't lay too heavily into it. Avatar ImageLisbry says: Why does everything keep doubling?!Avatar Imagedeadtree says: wow, this is a really cute promotional stunt!Avatar ImageFloridianFlounder95 says: So, I'm going to force my sister to live in the UK for a year and look out for balloons, oh the cost of being a Harry Poter fan, totally worth it though. But couldn't they choose a Greener way of doing it?Avatar Imagekrystle says: i wonder how many people that get them will live out side London?? Cus i want one lolAvatar ImageHBPFan says: Hopefully those balloons won't last too long in the atmosphere, and are found quickly, before they do any damage. I agree with all the above..it's a great idea in a way..very potterish as someone put it earlier. But they can cause damage..Avatar Imagespiritbound says: Wooooopings! I'm 18 and live in the UK :D I am officially on red alert for any sign of a balloon. lolAvatar ImageRodiniusBlack says: ARGH, ONLY IN THE UK! Avatar Imagehumbert0 says: I'd like to be there to see it =)Avatar ImageFleur-de- Lily says: Awesome! Avatar ImageJenpix says: Darn it. I love hp but have been supporting the marine conservation societies campaign against balloon releases. Problem is that more often than not in the uk the balloons end up in the sea where they are consumed by birds, mammals and sea turtles pretty quickly killing them. I expect the PR guys who arranged this did not know that tho or they would not hae done it. Ad despite the consequeses it does sound pretty excitig.Avatar Imageele0206 says: OMG this is amazing! Avatar Imagenipintheair says: That is so awsome!!Avatar ImageCatherine says: how exciting!Avatar ImageErinM says: Let's just assume that all of the balloons are going to be received by Potter fans and let's not think about one or two that may bump into a bird, ok? Wow guys, take a deep breath..it'll all be ok.Avatar ImageFlower says: Grr! I wish that I was over 18 and lived in the UK!!!Avatar ImageGiant Squid says: it sounds good and is sure to look great but the poor animals that get caught in this!!!!!! :( :( WB could choose a different way to publicize HBP. Avatar ImageLinnyish says: Well I'm over 18 & I live in the UK so at least that's a step! I'll definitely keep my eyes out for balloons. Or dead turtles.Avatar Imagesimos says: Yay! How amazing!Avatar ImageAndrash says: Good for the UK people... Do you think the wind could blow some of the ballons to Hungary too? XDAvatar Imagecallicott3 says: Cant get an airline reservation! I'm in the US!!! PICTURES, PLEASE, ANYONE!!!!Avatar ImageHPNAIV says: I actually like the idea... I find it really cool! Good luck to those who catch a balloon.Avatar ImageHmrc5 says: Is in times like this that I hate to live in Portugal! :SAvatar ImageSnapesSilverDoe says: Oooo I hope one blows and lands in my garden!!Avatar ImageLeeann says: That's so awesome! I wish I was able to do it.Avatar Imagebeewell says: Great idea but bad for the environment. Maybe they will have someone to monitor the balloons and get them if no one else does. Great idea about using the owl though.Avatar ImageBlatcher914 says: What a unique idea for a contest, this definitely beats the ordinary enter online and hope you are the lucky name drawn deals!Avatar ImagePetra says: I hope someone will shoot that so I can watch it somewhere... God, wish that I live in London...Avatar ImageXyra44 says: Sounds like fun but completely environmentally irresponsible. The WB green team didn't get final approval on that project.Avatar Imagephantomdave79 says: that is a really cool promotion. I can't wait until Dec 8th for this to finally arrive on Blu Ray!Avatar Imagestephravens says: gahh if only i was 18 i could have gone to it glad i live an hour away from LondonAvatar Imagemarsh5610 says: I rly wish there would be a freak whirlwind in the UK...then a balloon could land in Singapore, halfway across teh world. And i would literally fight to the death for it. :) :) :)Avatar ImageBewareoftheNargles says: Oooh I'm not 18 or over but I still want a balloon to blow into my garden? lol hopefully but they could have come up with a better, fairer, more-environment friendly competition. Avatar Imagepotterforpresident says: I'm all for eco-friendly stuff, but let's give them a chance. It can't be as bad as it sounds. I wish I was in the UK, though. :)Avatar ImageBookworm Jen says: It's a fun idea, and I'm sure the launch will be visually stunning, but I have to agree with those concerned about the environmental effects. Hopefully WB has a good plan in place for tracking and cleaning up the balloon "remains".Avatar Imageforgetmenot_007 says: It's so cool !!! Oh,just became 17 on this 31st July;wish I could be 18 in this year!:-/ Avatar ImageWON_TWO says: No comment....Avatar Imagedangflabbit says: hello, wasnt this the comp for the HBP tour!!! guess they didnt lyk anyone!! ohhh nd i did my video so nicely, shame!! hmmm not rlly bothered to go this tym, nd hw are u meant to catch the balloons on a bridge while there floating upwards???Avatar ImageeiVega says: This sounds like a brilliant promotion. How original.Avatar ImageFresca says: The balloon idea would be great except for the damage to some birds and fish. Good point, Nimbus-X.Avatar Imagesueml says: I'm a bit stunned at the lack of knowledge regarding the environmental damage that such balloon releases contribute to. Especially in this sort of high-profile context, which, in a way, condones such releases. I see comments about "lighten up", "how much harm can it really do", etc. Here's an answer to that question that is UK specific: http://www.ukrivers.net/balloon_fact.html Some states in the U.S. have banned large balloon releases, however, people are still unaware of the laws and dangers, and events such as this don't help. Just because it is related to Harry Potter, doesn't mean it's a good idea. The WB is not setting a good example.Avatar Imagecheeserpleaser says: As creative as the corporate gesture is and as appealing as the opportunity it presents to fans is, I must join other fans in criticizing Warner Brothers for the environmental impact such marketing will inflict and believe genuinely that they should and must find another means of deploying this contest.Avatar Imagejustanargle says: hahhahaha. imagine getting a balloon, how awesome would that be!!! i want one! not sure they'd reach the north of england :PAvatar ImagexxIBelieveInNarglesxx says: Wow,i wish i could be there...:(Avatar Imagewrightrox says: this is absolutely awesome... wish i was in the UK......:p P.S. the world will still be green, it has survived for billions of years..not opening a can of worms here cause i like the "green" way of life, unfortunately i wish it was not as expensive so the entire world could live green...this is solely a sidebar.... Avatar ImageGarden State Geek says: Balloons are harmful to marine animals. Shame on Warner Bros. for sponsoring this event. Avatar Imagemoglet says: Bad bad idea, balloons are so harmful to many marine creatures, probably bad for many other creatures too, and awful for the environment, scattering what is basically rubbish far and wide, I am appalled.Avatar Imagemjkalldaway says: That's reallly clever and fun! I wish i was 18 and in the UK... Evanna and Matt are my 2 favortie actors... i'd love to meet themAvatar ImageHobgoblin 13 says: I know it's horrible and everything but I'm not really sure we have sea turtles anywhere near England aren't those near Greece?Avatar ImageHobgoblin 13 says: THINK OF THE TURTLES!Avatar Imageanne1 says: I might be able to see it as I have a view of that area from the window at work, but I'll be at work that time. Maybe one will crash into my window... but I'm not photogenic enough to be a Hogwarts portrait.Avatar Imagehalfbloodprincesss says: this is one of those times i really wish i didnt live in the states...and wasn't over 18Avatar Imagealegria35 says: wish I am in the UK...Avatar Imagekayzz says: this is certainly the most...unique idea I've heard that WB has come up with. it rather sounds like a good idea that wasn't that well thought out...but it was a good idea. and it would be cool to have a movie script experience and be having a really bad day and then see a balloon floating toward you and it happened to have the right code on it...anyway.Avatar Imagehermionenluna says: awesome!!! hope i get 1!Avatar Imagehermionenluna says: awesome!!! hope i get 1!Avatar ImageIloveDobby says: Uh i wish i lived in London i hate living in Ireland after reading that >:] So luckyAvatar ImageJenpix says: Just a responce to those unsure of the impact to aquatic life please follow this link - http://www.mcsuk.org/mcsaction/pollution/balloons for uk based info. It does mention some balloons which may have a lesser impact on wildlife but they have not been fully tested yet to make sure. Avatar Imagegryffindor1991 says: cool but this sucks because its only open to uk residents. what a load of crap. we she be allowed to enter here in the us. :DAvatar ImageHermioneRon4ever says: Wish I lived in the UK....Avatar Imagemuggle118 says: how cool Avatar ImageEmilyDeibert says: That's really, really cool, but I hope fish and turtles and whatnot don't end up eating the balloons by mistake.Avatar Imagesunlitdays says: AHHHHHHHHH THATS CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar ImageParkinsonpansy says: thats so cool wish i lived in the uk but i agree with Nimbus-X Avatar ImageParkinsonpansy says: thats so cool wish i lived in the uk but i agree with Nimbus-X Avatar Imagethundermountain7 says: i wish the us would do thatAvatar Imagethundermountain7 says: i wish the us would do thatAvatar Imageliv-wa says: That is such an awesome idea. It's different. No one has done anything like that before.Avatar ImageMosu says: OHH on my bday, although i dont live on the UK it would be awsome if i was walking home and on my way there a balloon shows up :) great birthday present, im going to keep my eyes open :PAvatar ImageMosu says: lmao imagine if the one with the wining code gets stuck on a tree ;)Avatar Imagegemini_black says: Dang...Sounds cool but to bad I'm not 18 or overAvatar ImageTonks1 says: This is a nice gimmick, but, releasing balloons into our atmosphere is harmful to our environment and our wildlife. How about putting the card in a candy bar, or box of cereal. Or, better yet, how about a book.Avatar Imagegemini_black says: Sounds cool but to bad I'm not 18 or over and I'm way far away from where the're doing it Avatar ImageBeckster235 says: why cant this happen in the usa?? soo coolAvatar ImageRin68nyr says: OH....PLEASE do that in the US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar Imageangelvoice says: Too bad I don't live in the UK :(Avatar Imagenorsewolf42 says: I can't wait for the movie to come out! Even if it is after my birthday LOL.Avatar Imagenorsewolf42 says: and I don't live in the U.K. but oh well it will eventually come out in the U.S. LOLAvatar ImageHGROSS44 says: I need to see if the traid winds will blow one all the way to Vegas. Ha Ha. some lucky person will have a blast seeing the shooting of the last HP film.Avatar Imagepfowlerp says: Too bad I don’t live in the UK. Oh how I wish they would do this in US too.Avatar ImageTheGriff says: haha thats awesome, gonna keep a look out for random balloons, not that they'll come this far north. I can but hope and dream haha.Avatar ImageLauraKeaton says: Good thing England has gun control laws, because here in Pennsylvania we'd be standing outside with our firearms trying to shoot one down! I'm guessing the chances of one floating all the way across the atlantic and landing in my back yard isn't very good.Avatar Imagemugglemom4 says: I didn't know that balloons could have such consequences. I doubt WB did either. Maybe they should be informed, tough situation. Avatar Imagered-lily-5 says: LOL to Dee's comment...Avatar ImageFifi says: I wish I was over 18... and the balloon just floated that tiny needed bit to the west. I hope non-HP fans suddenly decide to pop the balloons. lolAvatar Imageishkabibble87 says: to the people saying it's "no big deal", i think you may be clouded by your affinity for potter. this is so wasteful and stupid.Avatar Imagewandmastercalum says: :( I wish I lived in London!Avatar Imagemadman1277 says: cool but not enviroment friendlyAvatar ImageMidnightSun321 says: awesum :) but nt in uk right now :( and im not over 18 :( and its not v good for the environment :(
