A treat has arrived this morning: the first deleted scene from the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film as made its way online and can be watched right here, as well as in our Video Galleries here. The simply chilling sequence, released by WB Italy, features a breathtaking performance by actor Alan Rickman (Severus Snape) as darkness descends upon the castle. This deleted scene is slated to be among many special extras found on the upcoming Half-Blood Prince DVD, set to be released stateside on December 8.
Update: Additionally, WBItaly released two other short clips from a number of the extras on the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince DVD, including actress Emma Watson receiving a Dark Mark (Gallery video here) and one of actor Rupert Grint discussing the development of his character, Ron Weasley (Gallery video here).

wow, that was really cool. It really looks like a scene that shouldn’t have been included in the movie though, I think that was a good call. Alan Rickman is just amazing. His face speaks so many words. It portrayed almost everything he was thinking and going through in one shot. Kudos.

Is it just me or does anyone else sort of cry when they watch this scene? I don’t know why, but I feel sad whenever I watch it =P

I don’t understand the deleted scene, really. I mean, I do, but not entirely.
And Emma Watson receiving the Dark Mark? I always knew she was one of us. Smirk

months ago, when i heard yates and hooper talk about how they cut this scene, i thought it sounded amazing – it sounded like something that definitely shouldn’t be cut and it turns out…its even more amazing then i’d thought. especially like maggie smith and alan rickman, but i have to say the ron/hermione moment was great. nice way to include them in the final chapter of the movie. i love david yates but his editor is terrible.

I agree that this scene should have been included since it leads into the coming scene with the death eaters but then again the films are about harry’s journey so i can see that if they had to cut scenes, this scene doesn’t add or take away from harry’s journey. it’s a fantastic extra that adds to the overall story arc and in a perfect world none of these films would be edited and i’d happy watch a thorough four hour film! thank goodness for ‘extras’

This is probably one of the most moving Harry Potter scenes I have ever seen, and it was cut….gawd, it’s unbelievable! WHAT were they thinking? This is Rickman at his acting best: subtle and powerful! The music couldn’t be more evocative with this scene.

i agree with all of you…it should have been in the movie….it clarifies what was
happening at Hogwart’s, because for the fans of the ‘movies only’ it really lost translation of what was going on at hogwart’s….for us that read the book we knew what was happening, but i felt the movie really didn’t pull it all together at the end of the movie. kudos to rickman :D
