Yorkshire Dales to Feature as Scenic Backdrop in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

There is word today of some additional gorgeous landscape from the UK that will feature in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. While many beautiful locations have been filmed, notably the beaches of Wales and the highlands of Scotland, today there is news that the Yorkshire Dales will be seen in the final Harry Potter films. The report says:

"Grassington Moor and the impressive 80m limestone crag of Malham Cove will feature in the film, which is directed by David Yates. Sue Quinn, supervising location manager for the movie, said: “We have been doing a lot of filming in Scotland and we wanted somewhere different that had a certain isolation so we came to the Yorkshire Dales national park. It’s very beautiful here.”

Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority chairman Carl Lis said: “It’s good to think that the iconic landscape of the Dales is going to be seen by a worldwide audience in the next Harry Potter film.“We get dozens of requests every year from film companies wanting to shoot in the national park, which shows just how special an area it is.”

You can read more about Grassington here, and Yorkshire Dales here with additional photos of the cove here and here.

Wow … it looks great. I love how their website has the HP filming as their top story already.
Wasnt it here that some of the Sherlock Holmes shows were filmed, too?

Yorkshire is my home county and it is very beautiful, I’ve walked across the limestone at Malham Cove, I can’t wait to see it in the film and Grassington is a wonderful town in the Dales, lots of stone houses and cobbled streets. Great place for walking, shopping and pub lunches. Mmmmmmm

Well, at least they are getting the landscape right … so there is actually hope for the film. If it’s bad, just look at the scenery …

Such an incredibly beautiful and gorgeous location to film in! I look forward to seeing which scenes from the novel will occur here.

I hope all these amazing locations aren’t going to be wasted on blue screen shots. I’ll be mad if that happens. Filming against blue screen will never look as good as doing it on location. Unfortunately, some directors think otherwise.
