Balderdash is our word of the day, as it turns out the story in the Sun from a few days ago regarding a possible second screening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is false. WB has confirmed to Leaky that there was no “secret” second screening of the sixth Harry Potter movie held as was claimed. For in an effort that would no doubt make Rita Skeeter proud, The Sun engaged in a bit of creative writing with their piece, as the comments were obtained from an article seen on Aint it Cool regarding the actual test screening held last fall.

Avatar ImageHagrid 713 says: Well that's good!!! still anxiuos about how this will turn out - I hope they didn't cut too muchAvatar ImageeiVega says: That's disgusting. Why would you go out of the way to trash something like that? I thought the comments sounded recycled from the other screening. Hopefully they've improved things since then.Avatar ImageStarlysh says: That dastardly Rita Skeeter, when will she learn...Avatar ImageJanitorOfAzkaban says: The same story almost was in the Daily Mail and it was clearly based on 8 month old blog posts. They quoted them saying "Maybe it will be okay, they've got a year before it's released," and then the journalist added "It's out in July" and for some reason they were incapable of working out simple time periods from calendar months.Avatar ImageNeil in Scotland says: Lol!! That's the Sun for you!! They like to make stuff up, and their sister paper on a Sunday, the News of The World, is even worse!!!Avatar Imagelevi-OH-sa not levio-SA says: ha ha! SHAME on YOU [points finger] Avatar Imageginnyrose says: yet again the sun get it wrong the dont do there research and report on other peoples work it makes me so mad Avatar Imagesavingharry says: eh, that's an insulting comparison. I mean, come on. Rita's a much better writer than that.Avatar Imageradish_earrings says: Darn that Rita... when, oh when will she learn? Where's Hermione when we need her? But seriously... I am utterly confused why someone would write that kind of story without checking the facts first. I know that people make mistakes, but this is rather a big mistake to make, isn't it? Weird...Avatar ImageZivlok says: Woah, showing the claws! Go get 'em, Sue!Avatar Imageskiving snackboxes says: i knew my call of Shenanigans was spot on. "Rita Skeeter better shut her mouth before she gets in trouble..."Avatar ImageJaymie Brooks says: Well, too late for that one. The "Half-Blood Prince sucks" rumor has already spread to multiple movie sites. Good job trying to spread propaganda, The Sun! I never really thought of you as credible, anyway. Waiting for WB to make an official statement so the movie websites remove this before it does any damage.Avatar Imagebudgie says: I am glad that WB gave an official statement. Is The Sun published in the US or just in Briton?Avatar Imagestevenk12468 says: I really do dislike Rita Skeeter!Avatar Imagebella vita says: Jaymie Brooks, unfortunately I think its already done quite a bit of damage, but you are right about them needing to make a more widespread official statement and fast. Even if you just look at the story on yahoo.co.uk yesterday there were over 40 pages of comments on this and almost every one I had time to read believed this made up crap. I hate the Sun. There is a reason they get sued all the time. For once I actually wish WB would sue them and I never say that.Avatar Imagenddulac says: Good to know that the sun is upholding the highest standards of journalism.Avatar ImageSophie Treklemmer says: I was hoping that they were making up the comments as well. As a person who has lived in the UK for a year, I know not to take anything the Sun post first as a fact. There are mean Rita Skeeters working on that paper. They love to make things up and put a negative spin on it. They are just in it to make drama and spread unhappiness. :(Avatar ImageProngsssss. says: I've just been on 'Aint it cool' and read the reviews for the acttual screen testing. It sounds like they've handled the ending VERY badly. Now I'm scared :(. What if they've changed it and people who have not read the books might not understand! AHHH scared. Avatar Imagesnapealicious says: Figures.Avatar Imagepinkmoosely says: Nothing would surprise mw with The Sun! for those of you in the USA it is a very popular tabloid paper that spends much of it's time reporting absolute rubbish. I have say I was not at all worried when I read the source of yesterdays report. Honestly guys don't worry if The Sun ever says somethings rubbish it's probably great.Avatar Imagerebel says: Oh Rita, when will you learn?Avatar ImageBeowulf says: Does this mean all of those comments that the movie has changed and is "too sappy" are false? I didn't understand how that could be in any case...Avatar ImageLis Lovegood says: Shocker! Not one person quoted in that article liked the movie... that's just not possibleAvatar ImageBookworm_Weasley says: Well, I can't say that's much of a surprise, really.Avatar ImageSnapesSister says: I never realised it had been reported by The Sun, but it all makes sense now. I read the story about the supposed second screening on Yahoo last night and started panicking. But if those comments are months old, WB have had a chance to make changes, after all, that's what test screenings are for.Avatar ImageJaymie Brooks says: Gah. Every movie site I go to has that false article up! It's ridiculous. One site says that Harry Potter fans are threatening to revolt? What? Are they so desperate for news that they have to make up crap such as that? Some of these sites are just as bad as The Sun.Avatar Imagespicefan1978 says: The Sun sure knows how to stir up trouble! Avatar ImageHarrys Horntail says: When I read it before I was like 'uh, so everyone now hates it when most comments I read from last time were positive? Doesn't seem likely.' and since it was the Sun I kinda figured it was a) wrong and b) done for maximum shock value so I didn't believe it. Still, it's sad that people elsewhere don't have the real story. Avatar Imagemollywobbles23 says: lol The Sun fails at everything. Avatar Imagegaminette says: Too bad the story was picked up by the Guardian, the Examiner and other publications around the world as beint the truth: http://news.google.com/news?pz=1&ncl=1314209163 I knew it was b.s.Avatar Imagebudb says: Interesting...such stories are usually copyrighted, and information 'borrowed' from another news source must be credited (sometimes with a fee I believe). Melissa would know more than I.... but, wouldn't Aint it Cool have a case against the Sun for not crediting it as the source of the material that was 'borrowed'? From the WB standpoint, its all just free publicity, can't see them complaining, tho I would expect a very well publicized denial in order to generate more free publicityAvatar Imageathena024 says: Lol half the comments on that story basically called The Sun rubbish, and they just proved it! Well done!Avatar Imagebadger666 says: Darn that Rita Skeeter! Well, I guess it's a good thing that there wasn't another screening and people didn't like it. I'm still anxious about all the stuff they must have cut, though. I really hope the movie turns out well. Avatar Imageweasleyalltheway says: i was watching the phantom of the opera and rita is in it!!! anyways, the people at the sun really need to get their facts straight.Avatar Imagemollywobble says: Ugh, guys. These were a couple people's opinion last summer at the Chicago screening, but there were also other reports that said the film was great. Yes, if you only care about how much of the book is in the film, then I guess you'll be disappointed. What the Sun did was steal info from a website without permission. They also didn't give AICN any credit whatsoever. It sounds like an editor was desperate for a Harry Potter story so they googled HBP, and found that old link. Totally ridiculous. At least Rita Skeeter does her own research.Avatar ImageDances with Dobby says: Disgusting. It wasn't as if I didn't expect it, though.Avatar Imagecheeserpleaser says: I must concede that I am not surprised in the slightest to learn this. Since when has anyone viewed the Sun as a reliable and credible source of journalistic information? One could trust it about as much Pettigrew.Avatar ImageCrown Victoria says: I knew it was false. no potter fan would say something that cruelAvatar Imagemugglemom4 says: The Sun gives other news sources a bad name. Ugh!Avatar Imagemugglemom4 says: Thank goodness we have leaky to give us news we can trust. Avatar Imagemollywobble says: bud, I don't think AICN would make much of a stink of it. The "reviews" were submitted to the website anonymously, and since the guys who run AICN like to remain anonymous themselves, I don't think they'd want to start anything. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it's webmaster, Harry, writes a post about it. Avatar ImageMoose_Starr says: Another good reason why I get my news from Leaky. What I dont understand is how a *newspaper* can print *news* that is in fact creative writing, I guess it's not fiction but, they're taking the quotes out of context & recycling old stories ... what is the point? It's not news ...Avatar ImageAccioCloak says: Glad to see the story was just more tabloid rubbish - looks like Rita isn't too far-fetched compared to some Sun so-called journalists!!Avatar ImageWaggaWaggaWerewolf says: Interesting that in today's (Saturday's print version) Daily Telegraph this article was printed as fact. Perhaps someone needs to tell the Daily Telegraph that it isn't actually news? And that it was only a rumour? Rita Skeeter does ride again! Perhaps there should be a Rita Skeeter journalist's award for malicious grain of truth reporting. Avatar Imageharrypotterbookpurist says: Ugggghhhhhhh that is so frustrating that the stupid Sun is making stuff up as always. I am a Harry Potter fan and I will enjoy the movie version of the HBP no matter what is different or cut. I will enjoy it, because I am a huge Harry Potter fan and love everything that is Harry Potter.Avatar ImageBoyWithALightningScar says: Bravo, The Sun. I would be ashamed to work for this rag.Avatar ImageDragongirl says: and these people call themselves reporters???Avatar ImageGraymayne says: The best use for the Sun is for lighting the fire or cleaning the windows. I've never bought a copy in my life, and now you know why.Avatar ImageKiralay says: Good. It's officially false! Actually, I'm more worried about this negative publicity and the movie's image than the movie itself right now.Avatar Imageugurbocegi says: I knew it! Avatar ImageDobbyrox says: hahaha i knew it was just a bunch of crap..... the Sun could give the Daily Prophet a run for its money... jeez =P Avatar Imagehermyone08 says: Well we all know how unreliable The Sun has been in the past. Glad the rumor was squashed!Avatar ImageFresh Prince says: YEA I KNEW IT COULDN'T BE TRUE AND YES HOPEFULLY THEY DIDNT CUT TO MUCH I THINK IT WILL BE AWESOME CAN'T WAIT TIL THE MOVIE COMES OUT SO ANXIOUSAvatar ImageRavenclawed says: It's amazing and quite scary how often the media reports things that aren't even vaguely true.Avatar ImagePigmyPuffPie says: The Sun should go back to reporting about Bat Boy and aliens. If there is cuts to the movie hopefully they're just saving those scenes for the next two movies.Avatar ImageBunty says: Well... very nice headline for this piece of news.Avatar ImageSidish_black6 says: ha ha ha. . . . . Rita Skeeter do exist in real world huh. . . . . too bad though, spreading news like that. . . . SUN sucks. . . Avatar ImageBeAchL0veEr05 says: Rita! Why spread such lies?Avatar ImageLinnyish says: I'm pretty sure that Rita secretly writes every article in The Sun. At least she puts a little effort into her work, if you're going to make up a story you might as well go the whole way and exaggerate until your ears fall off.Avatar Imagefantasylover12001 says: Ha. So called this. And the Sun wonders why people don't take it seriously...Avatar ImageEvreka says: Reliable paper this.... (irony) Avatar Imagex_Potter_Lover_Forever_x says: Spiteful Rita Skeeter tattle tales, she never learns. Where is Hermione when you need her?! xxAvatar ImageAgrippa1 says: Amazing that muggles should have their own even-more-rita-than-rita skeeter hard at work to sabotage Harry! I wish WB would sue them too, bella vita.Avatar Imagemissskye says: The Sun is and always has been nothing more than a tabloid.Avatar Imagemewthree says: i will take what they say about the film with a pinch of salt. will wait to see what it is like when it comes out.Avatar Imagecallicott3 says: I KNEW she had gotten a new job! And in the Muggle world, too! No one would HAVE her, in the Wizarding world after her last little stunt...at least I hope not. What now? A "Tell All" book...like some other muggles, we know? YIKES! It's a TABLOID folks...who else would have the audacity to write such drivel? Or to publish it. Of course we KNOW they always check their sources!, Right? You'd almost think it WAS 'Rita Skeeter', huh?Avatar Imagecallicott3 says: @ Budgie, and anyone else: If it already hasn't happened, it's only a matter of time, before the 'Enquirer' and the other "rags" over here, print it! Get the word out, folks! As Jaymie Brooks and I'm sure many others have said: It's too late. The damage has bben done! We need to help WB. Like them or not, the fandom should at least TRY to stem this crap!Avatar ImageNargleCatcher says: Darn that Rita Skeeter!!
