As a follow up to our report earlier today, actress Helena Bonham Carter has given further detail about her turn as Hermione Granger playing Bellatrix Lestrage in the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” films. A new interview from MTV has appeared online in which the actress comments on the placement of the Malfoy Manor sequence in the final films, relating that her appearance comes in Part Two. MTV reports:

The scene itself falls near the middle of the “Deathly Hallows” novel ” but Bonham Carter’s next statement might shed some important light on where the books will be split, a point on which the “Potter” crew have been elusive.

“I can’t remember where they are going to cut,” she explained, then remembered. “Yeah, [the scene is] definitely in the second one, because all of my stuff is in the second one. So you won’t see me until 2011.”

The report continues with additional quotes from Ms. Bonham Carter about her experience playing Hermione acting as Bellatrix during the Gringotts Break In sequence, as well as the reasoning behind this decision. Quoteage:

After J.K. Rowling wrote the scene in the final “Potter” book, the film series’ producers were faced with a difficult question: Was it preferable to use makeup and CGI to make Watson look like Bonham Carter, or have the older actress act like the younger?

“Rather than put Emma Watson in a helluva load of make-up they just said, ‘Now you go act like Hermione,’ ” Bonham Carter said of their decision. “That was fun, because I always wanted to be Hermione. “It was great fun,” she said of the scene. “[I was] looking at Dan [Radcliffe] and Rupert [Grint] and they were treating me as if I was 17.”

A clip of the interview is available to watch here. To date, no official word has been released regarding where exactly the two “Deathly Hallows” films will be split.

Avatar ImageNumeroUnoFan says: would be super suspenseful to end right at the snatchers sceneAvatar ImageGinnyPotter811 says: Yes, I agree. I heard a few rumours that it would be at the end of the snatchers scene. Avatar Imagemochakat says: The snatchers would definitely be suspenseful, but it's more likely that they'll cut just after the silver doe. It gives a feeling of resolution and a bit of a triumph since Ron is back, the locket is destroyed, and they've finally gotten the sword.Avatar ImagesHeLbsS says: It's going to be rough to wait for the second installment to come out after the first just...ends. haha So glad it's in 2 parts, though. I can't even imagine how difficult it would be if they only made it into 1 movie.Avatar ImageRumourBuster3000 says: Ugh. No! The most logical, best for the storytelling split for DH is after Harry decides "Horcruxes, not Hallows." Right after Dobby's burial. I'm going to take Helena's comment as pertaining only to the Hermione bit. The way she's quoted it seems that's what she's saying. To cut at the Snatchers is a bit cheap, I think. It gets the cliffhanger, but it's not a tonal thread's end.Avatar Imagerealspace says: Ever since they announced a 2-part DH movie, I have said the perfect place to cut would be right after Ron uses the deluminator in the tent...all goes black and you hear Fenrir say "Come out we have you surrounded". Of course I don't know if they will be captured in the tent or not, but it's still the place to end the first half. Then the second part will start with them being take to Malfoy Manor with plenty of time for Shell Cottage, Gringotts and Hogwarts.Avatar ImageLily_Phoenix says: I wanted the cut to be right after Ron comes back in chapter 19, but then we wouldn't know what the Deathly Hallows were until the second part. Yates or Heyman said the end of part one would be suspenseful, so I took it for granted that right as the snatchers arrive is where they would cut it.Avatar ImageLoveTomRiddle says: Awesome! I was close! My first prediction for the split was right after Malfoy Manor.Avatar ImageLoveTomRiddle says: Helena Rocks!Avatar Imageforgetmenot_007 says: Can't wait to watch the movies! SUPER EXCITED!!! :-DAvatar Imageemo_witch@yahoo.com says: Can't wait. HElena rocks. Can't wait to see her act like Hermione.Avatar Imageleigia says: I don't really care on where they split the book, as long as it makes sense. BTW, great interview from Helena. Her comment about using the wand from the clip was funny.Avatar Imagekatherine102678 says: Ironically it had been rumored that the split would occur right before Malfoy Manor scene anyways, so all she did was confirm the rumor that I had heard a while back. But that is cool!Avatar ImageJane_Potter says: Great!!Avatar Imagealicia00 says: ohh soo thats the [art thats going ot be split into 2 cool thats what i thought it was going to beAvatar ImageScarStruck says: Ahhhh suspense!!!!Avatar ImageHPNAIV says: So basically they cut where the Snatchers catch them? Because then that leads to Malfoy Manor in Part Two. I'm happy with that. But it still seems like they have a lot more to do in the second part. Makes me worried...Avatar ImageLinnyish says: It would have been terrible if they hadn't let Helena be Hermione! They definitely made the right choice there :D I'm sad that we won't see Bellatrix at all in the first one.. I guess it makes sense though.Avatar ImageGiant Squid says: I think that the split will be just as the snatchers are outside the tent. That would be a very good place to split but also VERY annoying for the audience!Avatar Imagemollywobble says: This rumor has been around for some time now. However, when it comes time to edit the film together (which I'm sure that is where they are now in production), they may decide to change it. This is why I'm not getting too excited about it. The best part of that MTV video is Anne Hathaway asking Carter if they get to pick their own wands. Hehe.Avatar Imagekiwimci says: Great interview, oh I'm so excited! Ahhhhh after the Snatchers is my betAvatar Imagemadman1277 says: I thought it would be right when Dobby dies, but i was still close Avatar Imagenellythemarrow says: I really hope they'll be bold enough to leave part one on a cliff hanger1Avatar Imagesplinch says: does sound like silver doe to me, it makes the most sense and that way part 2 starts off with a bang, though i do hope this doesnt cut into the battle of hogwarts, we dont want to see voldy running unopposed through the school or anything *cough* hbp*cough*Avatar ImageRinny says: this goes to support the theory I've had for a while (and it seems others have too), that the cut will be right after the snatcher scene. and then the second will open up on malfoy manor- which you can't deny would give some lovely opening shots. i have a hard time seeing them cut it right at the silver doe- it leaves no real suspense or reason to come back. and they've already said it's going to be a cliffhanger cut. the other view i've had of the cut has been when they're actually at the malfoy manor and stuck in the cellar already. maybe awfully after hermione's been taking to be tortured and ron is stuck in cellar yelling after her. it kind of guts my heart to think about that. whoever said the dobby split is the best- this is true, this is the true split of the book, but if the movie cuts out after the snatchers, that means it basically opens at dobby's death- so in essence this is still the split. i suppose it's also possible to cut it right at dobby's death. how awful. i think they haven't given an actual release yet, 1, because that's just no fun, and 2, because i think they are thinking about cutting it somewhere from the snatchers to dobby's death, and they're just not sure where exactly in there it's going to work best cinematically Avatar ImageBookNookKara says: Oh gosh I'm so excited to see that sequence, its a huge climactic scene so imagine if its right at the beginning of the movie! Talk about getting off to a heart pumping start! I don't want to wait for it though! aaahhhh!!!Avatar ImageTassana Burrfoot says: "And they really think you're going to use it." Helena Bonham Carter is amazing and so funny!Avatar Imageginnyshiel says: Part I can't end when they are caught by the snatchers because it's too exciting. That's like an stupid advert break but not for a half-year break. The best end would be Dobby's burial with the decision horcruxes not hallows. They did film Shell cottage last May. Why should they film it so early if it's not in part I?Avatar ImageFelipe_Q says: Ok, I agree that the split might happen right at the snatcher scene, but I am confused about something else she said. Helena mentine ALL her stuff would be in 2011 (part two)... is she confused? or does that mean that they either cut the opening sequence at the Malfoy Mannor or she is not in it? I would think that if they have that scene she would be in it, right? I think she might be confused. I mean, they HAVE to have the opening scene with Voldemort and the Death Eaters!Avatar ImageMistic Willow says: I would like to see the cut be right after Roon comes back, and has time to settle again, and then we here Fenrir Grayback says come out we know you are in there!!!! I hope they show everything at Shell Cottage and ALL of what happens at Malfoy Manor (especially Dobby's part). I know I will be bawling/crying big time when Harry is digging Dobby's grave. I wish that we did not have to say goodbye to Dobby at ALL!! I will also be sad to loose Fred, Tonks, Lupin and Collin. I will NOT be said when Molly kills Bellatrix and when Harry finishes off THE DARK LORD/Voldemort.Avatar ImageMistic Willow says: Whoops I ment Ron, forgive the spelling!!!!Avatar ImageFelipe_Q says: ginnyshiel, shooting schedules are almost never chronological. When they shoot a scene isn't an indication of where it's going to be in the movie. They could have shot Shell Cottage at that time only because that's when they had all the actors in that scene available to shoot, or because of the location, etc. There's still a chance that scene may be in part I, though. Nothing is set in stone until they finish the film, have screenings and get feedback, tweak the film and then have the final cut.Avatar ImageAbiDumbledore says: It will be better to do it at the Snatcher's scene. Then they can introduce Malfoy Manor for the first time in the second film without having to recap.Avatar Imagemaxpower says: I think the snatchers scene is a great place to split up the movie! You have the trio cornered, the sword in Greyback's claws, and that ratchets up the suspense perfectly. Avatar ImageHermione Elizabeth says: Hmmm very interesting..... to me, it doesn't really matter where they cut it, as long as they do it properly. I kinda wish Helena was in the first one, and not just the second.... she is awesome! :)Avatar ImageFGFG says: I don't care where the split is too much. I'm just glad they're making it into two movies. She seemed to really enjoy playing Hermione. I can't wait to see her playing Hermione. It's going to be so different and weird seeing Bellatrix act like Hermione. Avatar ImageManipedro says: The two parts film idea is great!Avatar ImageeiVega says: Great interview. Definitely excited. My only confusion is that she says we won't see any Bellatrix until Part 2? Did they cut her out of the opening scene in Malfoy Manor or are they cutting that scene? I wonder. She could have just lost track. She may appear briefly in the beginning but the real meat of her performance will be in part 2.Avatar Imagerosepug says: I expect the film will end at a place of resolution, like after the Silver Doe but before the snatchers. To end with the snatchers feels cheesy, like a To Be Continued 2-part TV show rather than a full length movie. With Pirates of the Carib. 2, they ended with everyone (else) heading to safety, and Cap'n Jack stepping into Certain Death - which you know just can't be, so there's your sequel set up. I think it'll be more like that - the group is back together, safe, and then have some serious reminder of how much there's left to do.Avatar Imagegingerr_kat says: The interview with HBC was great. I love how eccentric she is and i love her hair. I wish I could pull that look off not being famous. It seems like dividing it into two parts will cut a lot of actors out of the first part but it is definitely better to do it that way. Avatar ImageFelipe_Q says: eiVega, I asked the same thing. Maybe she's confused? Also people keep saying we'll be first introduced to the Malfoy Mannor in Pt2, when Pt1 movie should start at the Malfoy Mannor...Avatar Imagestinka says: The suspense only serves people that have not read the books! It makes no sense to cliff hang a movie that has a book as source material.Avatar ImageMatea says: I'm still for the Silver doe ending! woot woot!Avatar Imagebellaohbella says: cant waitAvatar Imagenwrosey says: I don't care when it's split, as long as it's good.!Avatar Imagejeannemcl says: Face it. It doesn't matter where they cut it. No one is going to see the first one then refuse to see the second because they didn't like where it was cut.Avatar ImageHermonie says: I am so excited!! I not only want to see Malfoy manor but I can't wait to see the break out from Gringotts, Aberforth, Snape's memory's, Bill and Fluer's wedding, th battle of Hogwarts, and the part where they are taking Harry to the Burrow. I mean the movie is definetly going to be a bit scary but who cares!! After all, we get to see them 19 years later in the epilouge!!Avatar ImageHermonie says: I also forgot to mention when Kreacher goes nice! And when they break into the Ministry of Magic and save all the muggle-borns!!!Avatar ImageDiamondWings says: Cool! Interesting... XDAvatar Imagehermionenluna says: i love her :)Avatar ImageCatAlly says: Woot! Can't wait to see where they actually split it.Avatar ImagexxIBelieveInNarglesxx says: Interesting,i think it'd be a good splitting point, would make a nice cliffhanger XDAvatar Imagecheeserpleaser says: Many thanks to her for furnishing us with this information that I am not exactly sure whether Warner Brothers would want her to disclose! Based on this information we can deduce that the break between the two films will likely fall sometime between Ron's return in the Silver Doe sequence or the Snatchers kidnapping them and taking them to Malfoy Manor. Based on the fact that the movie is titled Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I believe they will incorporate Xenophilus's explanation of what they actually are at the least. Therefore, I am inclined toward the movie beginning immediately with the sequence at Malfoy Manor.Avatar ImageHermonie says: I know I already posted 2 coments but I mean this is sooo cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have stayed on here for 2 days straight to see if there was any other news on this but there wasn't so I just logged off and now I am back on! :)Avatar ImageGinnyweasley187 says: yay!!Avatar Imageowanalilypotter says: I dunno why but I'm getting a feeling they're gonna cut it right after the snatchers yell at Hary Ron and Hermione to come out of the tent because they are caught. That would be an EPIC cliffhanger!Avatar ImageFawkes1706 says: Bellatrix is an awesome character, evil but awesome. That recent unknown construction in Swinley Forest could be Malfoy Manor, makes sense if they are still filming that it is in the second half. Avatar ImageFawkes1706 says: I think they may leave us hanging too, it will be torturous!Avatar ImageLovegood.Luna says: That's Awesome!Avatar Imageharrypotterfreak101 says: I am seriously getting hyper right now! I cannot wait till the Deathly Hallows come out! ARGH!Avatar Imagephoenixes are in ravenclaw says: Cool that we see that clue!! I upset Helena won't be in part 1!!! :( She is one of my favorite in the film!!Avatar ImageI love my Spectra Specs says: As long as they spend a LOT of time on everything at Hogwarts at the end!Avatar ImagePensievePerson says: I find it alarming that Ms. Carter says she won't be in DH1! Bella plays a part in the opening scene of the book with Voldemort when they're all talking around the table! Why cut her out? She had lines in that scene! Avatar ImageXanthe says: Shes a such a great actress it won't be hard for her to act like hermione. But it will be great to watch!!Avatar ImageMalfoyDiva says: I'm am so certain where they're going to split that I'd be willing to bet money on it. The best part to make the split at is right when Harry jumps into the pond to fetch the sword. The locket in an attempt to stop him strangles him and drags him down, and as he is falling deeper and deeper into the black the credits will roll. It's always best to end with a cliffhanger. of course we all know what happens next, but being in the industry myself and having worked with numerous filmmakers I'm betting they'll go with this most dramatic moment. If not my second guess is that they'll wait long enough for Ron to rescue Harry at the crucial moment before he drowns and end the first part with Ron's dramatic, triumphant, and most welcome return.Avatar Imageabandonedboyjon says: while I think it entirely possible to end with the snatchers, it's probably still up in the air. helena's awesome, but David yates and Mark Day probably know better of the split. I'm surprised she won't be in the dark lord ascending scene- they've cast charity burbage, I hope they don't cut it. I think it's a little funny that they would even consider the make-up route with polyjuice- I mean I really don't think they even did. that's like having David Tennant dressed up like Brendan Gleason for all of GoF. Silliness.Avatar ImageMalfoyDiva says: You know IMDB has Helena listed as one of the characters in Part one of Deathly Hallows and it makes me wonder if she simply misspoke or forgot about the Dark Lord Ascending scene. Have they even filmed that scene yet? Anyway like most of you I find it a lame idea to think that the filmmakers would cut the scene or leave Bellatrix out of it. I certainly hope they don't.Avatar Imagemollywobble says: Guys, just because she said she thinks all her scenes are in Part 2, doesn't mean she won't have a cameo early in Part 1. She was answering questions off the top of her head.Avatar Imagesquibcloakmaker says: I still think that they could end it after the silver doe cause...it gets the trio back together which makes for a good ending. If they move the lovegood's house before the silver doe then you get the deathly hallow reference (since its in the title) and Ron is not needed for that seen anyway. Just my opinionAvatar ImageLunaLuver says: Thats the perfect place to split it after the snatchers. Its leaves you at a cliffhanger and starting at Malfoy Manor in part two will be so cool!Avatar ImageLunaLuver says: Bellatrix will be seen in part one because she along with the rest of the Malfoys are in the first chapter. As is Snape of course.Avatar Imagevioletpup says: I am so excited about the next movies. My husband got to see a red capret permier of Avatar in the middle east for the troups and Sigourney Weaver was there and I told him I wanted to be there when Harry Potter came out! I wish there was more info and trailers I am going insane trying to find new info on it. Avatar ImageMadeye Carl says: Both movies start at the Malfoy Manor, with Vol... in both first scenes. Avatar Imagedecarus says: I think she just misspoke about being in Part 1. There was a tweet from Tom Felton that said he was on set with her and his parents and Voldemort filming scenes and i think that is most likely the scene at the beginning of the film unless Voldemort is there when the trio is captured which i think unlikely. We know that Ron is at the Lovegood's house. We have seen photos of it. We know that all of those scenes happen on one very long day. The trio go to the Lovegoods, they are chased by the snatchers, captured and taken to Malfoy Manor, they escape and disapparate to Shell Cottage, bury Dobby, and then go talk to Ollivander and Griphook. That is all one very long day in the film and the split will be sometime during this very long day. That is not in doubt. The doubt is exactly where the split will be. All the evidence as of now points to after the trio is captured, but before they escape Malfoy Manor. I think the best split we can hope for is the trio captured disapparate to outside Malfoy Manor and then we flash to Voldemort gaining the elder wand. The end. I hope that it ends with Voldemort. I am still just hoping beyond hoping that the film does not end with the boys locked in the cellar while Hermione screams through the floor. No thanks, for goodness sake, no thanks. Avatar ImageMadeye Carl says: Wouldn't it be cool if some theatres reopened DH1, and played them back to back with DH2 opening. Avatar ImageLoveTomRiddle says: Ha ha "Helluva"Avatar ImageHermione-Granger says: When they said that they were cutting the harry potter and the hallows movie into 2 parts, i was so happy. But I always thought it would be great for them to end the first part right after Ron uses the deluminator in the tent and everything would go black and you could hear Fenrir say "Come out we have you surrounded." That would have been sooo cool and super suspensful! Then the second part would start with the trio being taken to Malfoy Manor. But still you never know. OH and by the way HELENA BONHAM CARTER ROCKS!!!!Avatar Imagealegria35 says: Isn't she on the first few chapters where Voldemort is teasing her about Lupin and Tonks getting married? Or was she not part of that scene?Avatar Imageclever-ravenclaw says: i just hope part one doesnt end at a really good part of the bookAvatar ImageMr. Stratford says: Why would they ever have even thought that they should have Emma Watson playing Bellatrix, for the bank scene? Did someone forget how polyjuice potion is supposed to work?Avatar Imagehermy007 says: amen to that, decarus. it would probably rip my heart out. that's an interesting take on where the split might be. for a while, i assumed, like others, that the split would be when snatchers are outside their tent. but now, i'm not so sure. it's possible that split might be after malfoy manor. i have a feeling that hbc simply forgot and the dark lord ascending scene will be in there. real disappointment if it didn't end up being there.Avatar Imageharrypotterfreak101 says: This is going to be awesome! I cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar Imagedecarus says: Well the quote from the article was we are filming a scene today where the trio are captured and being questioned by snatchers. The snatchers aren't too bright and haven't figured out who they've got, or something like that. That means to me that it will be after the proper capture of the trio. Also they will not be in their tent when they are captured. They will be running from the Lovegood's house through the forest around them in a battle/chase/ending in capture. It is all one long day starting with the visit to the Lovegood's house and ending at Shell Cottage. All of the scenes: Lovegood's, Snatcher chase and capture, Malfoy Manor, Shell Cottage, Dobby burial, Trio speaks to Ollivander and Griphook will all happen on the same day. There will be no time in between those scenes. The film will split sometime during them, but there will be no it's been a few weeks in between them. I think that at some point during this they are going to be flashing to Voldemort looking for the wand. My hope is they move up the moment when Voldemort actually gains the elder wand from Dumbledore's tomb and have that be the end of Part 1. I have no proof that they will do this. I just think that it would be a good ending and yet still a crazy cliffhanger. They may end with just Voldemort finding out where the wand is and then still have him gaining the elder wand at the beginning of Part 2. We will see. Can't you just see it though? Voldemort breaks open Dumbledore's tomb and gains the elder wand creepy smile. The end. Come on. Avatar ImageCarinaPotter says: I thought we already knew where the split would be? Helena Bonham Carter is going to be fantastic!Avatar Imagedecarus says: As far as i am concerned we do know where the split is, but a lot of people keep saying that it is going to be after Dobby's death which i think they have stated on multiple occasions that will not be so. They may change their minds during editing. I think that unlikely. I think you have to make that decision while you are still filming, but who knows. I also can't really imagine them flashing to Voldemort during the Malfoy Manor scene. It will somehow take away from the action of that scene to be showing Voldemort getting the wand. I think they should flash to them the second they push their dark marks and he starts flying towards them, but that should be after they figure out that the trio hasn't been in Bellatrix's vault and after the boys are already moving through the room trying to get Hermione away from Bellatrix. I would love for Luna to take part in the action here. I think that someone mentioned that. I think it unlikely only because she is not in the photos of everyone on the beach. She is running towards the group with Bill instead of kneeling with those who had just disapparated from Malfoy Manor. That is one of my disappointments with this series, in that they don't let the kids get their battle on enough. Hopefully DH will make up for that lack in other films. I think it might. We have seen a lot of great action going on.Avatar ImageKiralay says: Thank you Ms. Carter for that bit of information!Avatar ImageBbob1022 says: I still think the best split would be malfway manor cellar... Hermione screaming in pain... Ron yelling up to her... CRACK! Black screen. Dobby: dobby has come to save Harry potter sir!Avatar ImageDimitraRomanov19 says: I hope they are longer than the rest of the movies and just as good, its hard enough waiting for the second half.Avatar Imagesnowyowl99 says: Ugg! I wish it would be all one movie. I'll have to wait two years for the whole movie to come out! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Avatar Image29puppy104 says: cant wait to see both parts!Avatar Image29puppy104 says: her being hermione will be funnyAvatar Imagesnowyowl99 says: Hmmmmm...... I think it should end when dobby shows up at the manor.
