The Scotsman is tonight reporting that a rare and unpublished “hand drawn, personal horoscope and natal chart” created by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is being offered for sale for £25,000 through high end memorabilia specialists Paul Fraser Collectibles. Rowling reportedly drew the item for Jack David Buchanan after his birth in 1994 after attending baby classes alongside the boy’s parents.

According to the Scottish newspaper, the item “comprises 12 loose pages in a plastic folder” with a cover illustration that “depicts the chart’s key astrological symbols of the sun, fishes and a lion in pen, ink and coloured pencil laid down on bright blue coloured card.”
The article additionally details the boy’s horoscope:

She wrote: “Born the cusp of Aquarius and Pisces. He will enjoy school, perhaps be accident-prone, (like all Pisces) could be prone to alcoholism, and (perhaps like us all) may well fall in love with someone totally incompatible.”

The chart apparently suggests that the boy will have great literary talent stating “the planet of fantasy and imagination meets a sign frequently associated with bookishness.”

Rowling wonders whether his “ability to weave a good yarn” could perhaps bring fame and fortune, before deciding that becoming a film director would better suit his talents.

Apparently wishing for some small slice of fame for herself, Rowling wonders if the boy would perhaps at least mention her in his Oscar acceptance speech.

“This peculiar woman my mother knows predicted I would be standing before you today … of course, my parents laughed at the time,” she wrote.

A spokeswoman for Paul Fraser Collectibles notes that unpublished illustrations and writings by Rowling “offer a wonderful insight into the creative mind behind Harry Potter” and “a fascinating example of Rowling’s prose.”
Many thanks, Rosi!

Go Jo! :)Avatar Imagewaynenc says: I wouldn't sell something written personally for me from a friend whoever the author was or whatever the $ value.Avatar ImageCatherine says: awe how clever! she is so sweet!!!!! i wouldnt ever want to sell it! and of course i do not have that type of money to buy it!!! it is so cool though!Avatar Imagejaclyngirl713 says: I most certainly wouldn't sell it, especially since they were friends and it was for their son, who is around 16 now.Avatar Imagevicki_the_house_elf says: I would never sell anything that precious.Avatar Imagevicki_the_house_elf says: If it were for charity then it would be a wonderful thing to do, but theres no mention of charity. Just another greedy person trying to get some money out of JKRowlings good name. :(Avatar ImageCatherine says: she really isnt having the best birthday so far is she? i was just looking back.we havent gotten Jo News in so long and we get two pieces the day before her bday and 1 is because someone is sueing her and the other is because one of her old friends is selling something she made for them a long time ago....Poor Jo i hope she has a better day tomorrow! Avatar ImageI love my Spectra Specs says: I agree with joginny1994*SQUEE!* I would never sell something a friend wrote for me personally....and right before her birthday; I hope it doesn't bring her down too much.Avatar ImageSaskiaM says: There's no way they should sell that! Not only is it a total betrayal of her friendship, but it was so incredibly personalized -- it will have lost its meaning for whoever ends up buying it. It's also so embarrassing for Jo. An astrology chart she made for a friend's baby isn't any of our (the public's) business, and we certainly don't have any business reading it or buying it without her permission (and it doesn't sound like she's given it!) Especially for that kind of money. On the other hand, if she HAS given it, then that's fine... but I still wouldn't want to buy it.Avatar ImagePaintTheSky says: Unless it is being sold for a charity that Jo supports, I would be hurt and insulted if I were in her position. I do hope the money is going to a good cause. Happy early birthday Jo and Harry! Just 5 minutes!Avatar Imageakcorr says: She wrote this for a couple's child and they're selling it? How cool would it be to tell your child when they grow up that J.K. Rowling wrote this for you when you were a baby?Avatar ImagePaintTheSky says: @SaskiaM I don't believe whoever is selling it needs Jo's permission as it was a gift, therefore it is no longer her property and she forfeited any right she had to it once it was handed over. If it had anything to do with Harry then the story might be different, but I doubt it has.Avatar Imagenavseo says: I am always getting good information from here. Thanks for share all these. Regards Harry Imagex_Potter_Lover_Forever_x says: Cool! :) Good luck to whoever goes for it! Avatar Imageeccentricalice says: I agree with everyone that if JKR had done a personalised horoscope for me/my child, I so would not be selling it, even if I was desperate. I think it's sad that somebody is cashing in on something that is truly special, but that's the world we live in =(Avatar Imageazaadpotter says: Hope the money is used for a good cause. Go on JOAvatar ImageCaracticus says: I'm not religious, but "judge not lest ye be judged". The family should take high-resolution pictures of it as a memento (even print a copy) and sell the original if its going to be work a lot of $$$ to a collector. These people may not be wealthy, and this kid is now heading to college / university, so this money may allow the kid his choice of the best school etc. I can only imagine that Jo would approve if the money went toward his education or something similar. Avatar Imagemolly43 says: This may be one for JKR's rumor bin. I'll believe it when I hear it from her. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JK ROWLING AND HARRY POTTER!!! JKR I hope you're enjoying today with your family. Harry Potter you've brightened up my life.Avatar ImageFleur-de- Lily says: That nices!Avatar ImageValeria-Johanna says: I saw this chart once on 'Antiques Roadshow', when the owners brought it to show the experts. It looked a fine piece of drawing - I was impressed all over again by Jo's talents! I hope the British Library or some other public collection will bid for it, so perhaps some of us will be able to have a look at it.Avatar ImageGiant Squid says: I would NEVER sell that!!!!!Avatar Imageacciohorcrux.hbp says: A nice one again comes from JK Rowling's Extraordinary thoughts!!! Avatar ImageSaskiaM says: @PaintTheSky, I don't argue that legally this family is entitled to do this. I just can't help thinking it's a horrible thing to do, especially since it forces Jo to have to deal with this kind of speculation on her birthday. (And of course, if they asked her and she said yes and so forth, ignore all of the above. I have a kind of tendency to jump to the worse conclusion, but I also think it's more likely in this case.) @Caracticus, I hadn't even thought of it that way, but... wow, that makes it difficult. If they ARE selling it for the boy's benefit, especially if it's so he can pay for college, I still disagree with them (my reason being that you just don't sell things that personal, no matter how high-profile the author is), but I can understand their reason and can't begrudge them for it. For now though, we don't know anything. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY Jo and Harry! Avatar ImageNumeroUnoFan says: How lame is that to sell something that JK freaking rowling handmade and gifted to youAvatar ImageLittle Light says: Don't sell it!! It's special!!Avatar ImageLuna Creevey says: I saw an episode of Antiques Roadshow with another present (a mini book) she had created for someone in her baby lessons. I can't remember what they valued it at but the couple said that they could never bring themselves to sell it. It's slightly sad that this couple didn't hold their present in such high esteem but as PaintTheSky said they have the right to do whatever they want with it. I certainly would never be able to bring myself to sell something quite so special!!Avatar ImageDr_Longbottom says: @Caracticus, I agree with you on this. We shouldn't judge this family because we simply don't know enough about their situation. They could be facing a very dire time in their life, and if they are faced with the choice between selling this possession and financial hardship then I think it would be wise to reserve judgement. Of course, I could be wrong (and often am), and in that case I'd have to take all of this back, but until then I think even Jo would agree that family has to come first. Avatar ImageRowling Stones says: oooh! whish i had the money : (Avatar ImageMischief.Managed says: I don't think I'd ever be able to sell something like that! Wow.Avatar Imageharrypotterfreak101 says: So everything Jo does it now for sale? Wow, being famous does ruin your privacy.............Avatar ImageJeannine says: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! JO Rowling !! Hope it's a wonderful day! Happy Birthday Harry Potter too ...I am sure people of all ages will be entranced and love your story for many, many years , decades and centuries to come. Bless you Jo. Avatar ImageFresca says: Who, Knows, the people who own this may need the moey, and in that case, jo has helped them out twice.Avatar ImagePatrickPotter says: How can they sell it ?? O_oAvatar Imagebudgie says: When survival is in order, nice things can be sold.Avatar Imagepotterprab says: why in hte world is sellingthis its so preciuos and such a good keep stakeAvatar Imagelollifant says: This is so hilarious :p "the planet of fantasy and imagination meets a sign frequently associated with bookishness." I love you Jo, but as others said, I too wouldn't give such a gift away... @PaintTheSky okay, maybe if it's for charity, I could understand it...Avatar ImageDartFrog says: He, he-get real's being prepped for sale. As it was a gift to the family, it is the family's to do with what they will and not JKR's (JKR's not an expert in copyright for nothing.) To sell, then, isn't any kind of betrayal, rather one should grant that this work of JKR is as precious to that family as to any of us; and therefore to what circumstances may have come to the family that would prompt such a move. Hopefully, things change for the family before a sale is needed or that it's sale provides conclusive aid. Finally, reading about the contents cited iin the article, JKR's no astrologer but as has been said, very endearing.Avatar Imagefriendofblob says: Which I could see the pictures and I hope the money goes to a good cause.Avatar ImageMeggie the Goose says: Neat!Avatar ImageWON_TWO says: How nice...Avatar ImageSmitch says: Interesting. Very eccentric gift to give expecting parents. Avatar Imagehewy says: How sad that they need to sell such a precious gift. Hope all works out well for them.
